That's right.  This will find the words Test and me separated by any number of characters:

Code:
vanitygen64 -k -r -o file.txt [Tt][Ee][Ss][Tt][a-zA-Z0-9]{1,29}[Mm][Ee]

We're looking forward to some hall of fame addresses from you now Wink

price of bitcoin went down.. plans were ruined.. time to run and hide. seems pretty straight forward.

Did not appear so straight forward a few months ago. For years bitcoiners worshiped him like God.

 Let's not get carried away.  We did nominate him for President but God-like worship is carrying it too far.
He's still a great man who was able to accomplish much more than most.  Perhaps he had enough of being CEO of Asicminer and carrying the whole company on his shoulders.  We may never know.
8203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rare address hall of fame on: April 24, 2015, 11:35:17 PM
I generated this wallet, its pretty cool but idk if it makes the hall of fame, 1CanaryrAqbFnVQGxHqEgzxsiiSQBc4YYf it is a wallet with 29 consecutive letters in it with on 1 number.

 Nice address but it's not hall of fame worthy.  It isn't so difficult to generate addresses with just the leading 1 and the rest letters.
You can do plenty with a CPU - try this:  vanitygen64 -k -r "1[a-zA-Z]{33}"

Will I be able to search for prefixes using these options? Would this work? -k -r "1[a-zA-Z]{33}" -o [folder] 1Test

 Well you would have to reword the regex search to "1Test[a-zA-Z]{21,30}" because the bitcoin address could be 26 to 35 characters in length (just in case you found a short one).  It wont be fast because you have to match the "1Test" string exactly.  Start with something easier to test it out like

Code:
vanitygen64 -k -r -o file.txt 1T[a-zA-Z]{24,33}

you can add more letters after the T but then shorten up the length like this

Code:
vanitygen64 -k -r -o file.txt 1Te[a-zA-Z]{23,32}

also you can check for case insensitive matches of first part like this

Code:
vanitygen64 -k -r -o file.txt 1[Tt][Ee][a-zA-Z]{23,32}

 These will match anywhere in the string so for the shorter matches on longer bitcoin addresses, you will not see 1Test at the beginning necessarily.

Well I was lucky to get this address while playing with vanitygen, I specified it to be Case-insensitive but the first address found was all lowercase besides the first character

1GreekhutWw55DtiEwb8vMJXZAzKm1UrVT
I was going to make it Gr33khut but it would have taken much longer. So I now have a 7 Character (technically) case insensitive vanity address. my new personal wallet.

 Nice!  You had some luck too.  I've been trying to make my nick on and off for some time now but I can't get past the second x and that's using case insensitivity.  I'm either going to have to shorten my nickname or purchase another video card... or two Wink

Surprised nobody has beat my 11 real word yet lol.

Only took 1 night with two 660 ti's, running about 48Mk/s and a lot of words.

 As the number of letters in a word increases the number of available words decreases and the difficulty to find them as a bitcoin address increases exponentially so it's not surprising there are no 12 letter words yet.
 It would take about 100 days with your rig and a file of 3000 words for a 50% chance of finding a single case-insensitive match.

 This is my 12 letter real word address and I only found this by sheer luck while searching out 8 letter matches.

Gliese 832 c, for example, is described as a Planetary Class - warm superterran, Habitable class - mesoplanet, scoring a 0.81 on the Earth Similarity Index and it's only 16.1 ly away.  No need to reach (referring to my Star Trek Warp speed chart) Warp 1 for that.  We could make it there on an impulse cruise within a human lifespan!  Who's in?

Only 16 light years!   Wink

The human body can only accelerate so fast.  How would you like to spend 40 years (20 speeding up, 20 slowing down) pressed into your seat at maximum acceleration?  Remember we can't get anywhere near the speed of light - the more energy we apply the more gets converted to mass.

 Yes but the acceleration need not be so great!  A constant acceleration of 5m/s2 applied to the ship will create a comfortable, artificial gravity for the occupants (actually half the gravity of earth) and will attain near light speed in one year.  The ship will have traveled about 0.5 light years in that time.  If we maintain that force over the duration of the journey and point the ship in the opposite direction at the halfway point maintaining that same constant acceleration in the opposite direction, the occupants of the ship can enjoy the benefits of the artificial gravity throughout the entire journey.  Since we can't exceed the speed of light using this crude method of propulsion and current technology, the entire journey should take about 17 years.

 Also, let's say we convert the mass of the ship to energy as we go.   I'm thinking about a fusion type reactor though I don't have a mechanism for this yet but if the mass of the ship is going to increase with speed at near light speeds, we would have more fuel as well.  By the time we arrive at our destination, most of our ship would be used up and we wouldn't have to worry about recycling it.

NB I have no training in nuclear physics.

The whole ship would be like a traveling wave reactor, burning itself out while reaching its destination...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traveling_wave_reactor

Never work. We would run into all that dark matter, and at those speeds annihilate ourselves.

 Grin

I never said I would be on that particular ship... It's not like I will be an hurry jumping in if I can live 2000 years and wait for a better technology, in my geostationary space villa...

 Dark matter is the least of our worries since we already have dark matter/energy maps to use for our travels.  We just need to chart the best path through the fields.

 http://io9.com/scientists-map-the-dark-matter-around-millions-of-galax-1698685506

Given that we're only going 16 ly, the maps of that region are probably very detailed already.  Now that we also have a potentially awesome propulsion system, I suggest we start a funding round.  What do you think; Bitcoin or Dogecoin?  Keep in mind we might not need this for 1000 years or more while we work out the details.  Which one is going to last?

If everyone is able to live up to 1000 years, then the earth's population will increase by 1,500%. Right now, the population is around 7.3 billion. After a millennium, we can expect some 110 billion people living on earth (provided no other planet is made suitable for human habitation by then)!

Faster than light travel may not be possible.  If that's true, we will never relocate to another class M planet, and we will never interact with another intelligent species.

Since we haven't met any aliens yet, we have to assume either faster than light travel is not possible, or it is possible but intelligent life (that survives its own destruction) is rare.

  Class M planet is a Start Trek fictional designation.  There are in fact known, habitable planets which are relatively close to earth. Who's in?

Ok, here's where I'm at. I bought some bitcoins 3 years ago. I wasn't even aware of the account until I was deleting stuff out of my old computer that I happened to log in and was shocked at the value it had amassed. Over the past year i've been selling them here and there. There problem is, I keep having to go down on the price on almost a daily basis. In other words, IM LOSING MONEY. I've lost 2/3 of their value in the past year. Do any of you guys know of someone willing/able to purchase my remaining 1165 bitcoins. I'm not looking to sell them one at a time anymore. I'm willing to sell them at a discounted price if I can find a buyer to buy them all.

* Before you guys berate me, i'm not a Bitcoin fanatic like most of you guys are. I don't really know where to turn. That's why i'm asking you guys for advice.

 Open an account at any exchange, get yourself verified, sell the coins and transfer the money into your bank account.  It's pretty simple.

It took a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights to swat down a similar law in France only recently.

Quote
Eon, 61, a former social worker, was arrested as soon as he got out his sign, although it did not feature Sarkozy's name. The state prosecutor brought a case against him for offence against a head of state, and in 2008 he was ordered to pay a symbolic fine of €30 and given a criminal conviction.

 http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/mar/14/france-conviction-sign-sarkozy

 Wonder how many other countries have such arcane laws in place?

 You should tell the kids what you saw and give them the option of confessing or having you evince their actions.
It's a much better lesson.
