8221  Other / Meta / Re: Make this man a source already! on: May 16, 2018, 09:41:39 PM
Who is talking about forum funds? I was trying to earn money for myself by representing wrongfully tagged people.

So to be wrongfully tagged by you, someone needs to pay you 0.01BTC? Otherwise it's a rightful tag.

Why would someone pay that if the user giving the trust is someone who wants to earn money from the trust system and also has negative trust from a DT member?
8222  Economy / Lending / Re: Need 0.02 BTC loan. Funded trading account as collateral. on: May 15, 2018, 09:34:57 PM
Based on the subject does this mean someone actually funded this loan?

Why can't you take the money out of the exchange account either, there's quite an issue there if it is already in USD?
8223  Other / Meta / Re: sig campaign- what about "1merited post per week" instead of"25 post per week" on: May 15, 2018, 08:56:56 PM
I have an issue regarding this.

1. I earn merits in bursts (no idea why) but some weeks I get nothing, and others I can get 10-20 merits in them. I think most of the merits in the places I post probably end up going to members who actually need them rather than members who no longer need to rank up (legendaries).

I know DarkStar_ came up with an idea a while ago to try to get users to get 10 merits in the first month on the chip mixer campaign (which most of the users did achieve - but it was considered the rule was too harsh and the idea was dropped).

2. What stops a signature campaign manager meriting their campaigners first post to make it look like the problem is solved (if they have enough alts, it's possible).
8224  Other / Meta / Re: Must Acrivity and Merit fall over time? on: May 15, 2018, 08:50:35 PM
They've earned their rank because of "early adopters." It may seems unfair but this is how things work in real life. I never bitching about merit since I know it's their privilege, and if you don't like you can create your own forum. You can fork from block x or create genesis from block 0.. ooopss

That's true. The early adopters to Bitcoin got a hefty amount of them, though they weren't worth that much at the time - they still had that. We're not all requesting that the 18 million bitcoins already mined are considered null and void if they haven't been moved in a while.
8225  Other / Meta / Re: Does the system allow you to send merit to yourself? on: May 15, 2018, 05:15:21 PM
It's good that limit was put into place. If one person had say 100 sMerit, they could merit themselves around 197 merits before they ran out of those merit as each merit is worth a half of the previous merit.
The power of merit farming LOL

------------------
100=> 100
50=> 150
25=> 175
12 (0.5)=> 187
6 (0.5)=> 193
3 (0.5)=> 196
2 => 198
1=> 199
(0.5)=> 199
------------------

Hey! you got it wrong but close enough  Grin

Like godson said. How is half of 3.5 ever going to be 2.
And 12.5/2=6.5 huh?
It's definitely 197.
8226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Safer to RECEIVE multiple Bitcoin transactions on Coinbase or Ledger? on: May 15, 2018, 04:26:18 PM
To be fair, Coinbase and Ledger utilise server side validation which requires them to be trustworthy.

That's not completely true.
Ledger application does use their server to show information about incoming/outgoing transactions and balance.

But you always can verify yourself whether a specific transaction has arrived (i.e. block explorer).
This does not apply on coinbase. You are given deposit addresses and receive a 'balance' in their database. Since you don't own the corresponding private keys, you don't own the bitcoins.
You can't validate anything. You just rely on their database being intact to credit you the correct amount of BTC when you want to withdraw them.

With ledger, (only) you have the control over the private keys. Therefore you can always validate transactions/balance without needing to trust someone.

This means that they can modify the things that they can show you since they have full control over it.

This means that ledger could show you wrong information inside their application.
This also means that coinbase could show you whatever they want and still don't let you withdraw anything.

Yes, that's true.
Also, ledger gives you a seed so you can put it on an air gapoed computer in electrum and then erase all the data that gets saved on that air gapped device once you have transferred the funds where you want, IE another ledger, a trezor...

If you use electrum with your hardware wallet then ledger can't alter the information you see as electrum takes over.
8227  Other / Meta / Re: Does the system allow you to send merit to yourself? on: May 14, 2018, 09:32:59 PM
If so, I think it would be better to change it.
It does not. Once you try the request it ends up showing...

The way some of the merit abusers are abusing merit, if it was possible, by now you would end up saying a->a thousands of times if not millions  Smiley

It's good that limit was put into place. If one person had say 100 sMerit, they could merit themselves around 197 merits before they ran out of those merit as each merit is worth a half of the previous merit.

Before you open this thread you should have it to see whether it will work or have an evidence of who must have done such before.
Does Yahoo even screen people before allowing them to advertise his signature, literally have no idea what that bit means (I've seen quite a few users with that signature that post stuff that just doesn't seem to make sense to me).
8228  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcointalk Server Location on: May 14, 2018, 05:26:54 PM
No. I just didn't realise it was in archival, you can only edit or quote posts.

No one cares anymore. Just leave.

8230  Other / Meta / Re: Must Acrivity and Merit fall over time? on: May 13, 2018, 08:02:11 PM
I read somewhere on the forum that if you do not login or make any post here for 3 months , the account is deleted. Can someone confirm this as I could not find anything official about this.
If you don't login for three months, your account gets locked. It does not get deleted, ACCOUNTS NEVER get deleted under normal circumstances/ without the owner's request and signature.

Similarly, the owner needs to sign to say that they want their account to be unlocked. The main way to do this is to sign a staked address/another public key.

Where did you read that accounts get locked after three months of inactivity? I know that accounts which tried to log in after years of inactivity, after the 2015 hack get locked, but I haven't read anything else.

I thought that there was a default for smf of 3-6 months, maybe I've just imagined it. It might be the 2015 hack and something I have just picked up from then and reused now if people assumed it was three months at that point.
8231  Economy / Lending / Re: i need bitcoin loaner on: May 13, 2018, 07:10:16 PM
1 btc in two months
I accept any % of interest
please ask me collateral

Go on then,

What's your collateral?
8232  Economy / Lending / Re: i need bitcoin loaner on: May 13, 2018, 06:10:42 PM
As teddy says, post your request here publicly. This already looks a bit shady the way you haven't posted anything as a request for your loan publicly, like how much you want, interest, how long you want it for...
8233  Other / Meta / Re: [Request] 1 Merit to become junior member and access to bounties sub on: May 13, 2018, 06:01:43 PM
But bad for the newcomers who signed up for the forum just because of this.
Isn't that good? I mean they're not adding to the community with anything.

Although, they are adding to the number of ad impressions on the site so...
8234  Other / Meta / Re: [Request] 1 Merit to become junior member and access to bounties sub on: May 13, 2018, 05:55:18 PM
Maybe make everyone get 10 merits to post in the altcoin bounty sectionas altogether. It would be nice to see people actually putting an effort into the forum rather than just coming here with multiple throwaways to get bounties.

(the 1 merit could exist instead of 10 but it would be a better achievemnt).

NO.

They earnt their ranks. They can keep them can't they?

Minus 10 merit for not posting in 2 weeks just promotes spam also - excatly what we are trying to avoid.
And there there'll be services of "pay to keep your account active".

Merit is unlimited, if theymos wanted to increase the amount of source merits avaliable, he just has to hit a button on his admin tab.
8237  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcointalk Server Location on: May 13, 2018, 05:32:56 PM

it's an old post but maybe you still interested.

this is where the website is hosted as am typing.

United States >Arizona>Phoenix

it's hosted on a server owned by CloudFlare

Cloudflare are a portal to the server. They're like a vpn but server-side.

However @vod, this is the information you need - somewhere near Arizona US but I'm not sure it breaks down that far on your ec2 server.

don't know why my reply went twice, ignore this one. read below Cheesy
Can you see the delete button to the upper right of your post? use that.
8238  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk link profile hijacker in following the signature campaign on: May 11, 2018, 10:24:16 PM
I asked Moderator to take a firm action against the account, because it harms me in my signature campaign!

this is my profile link stolen to follow the signature campaign

This is the url you should have used for your image: http://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1226x340q90/r/924/O1hHlY.png - see above.

And what do you want us to do as a point if you have already contacted a moderator and I assume you have contacted the owner of the campaign.
8239  Other / Meta / Re: Begging and Spamming All over Altcoin ANN Thread on: May 11, 2018, 10:04:30 PM
He's spamming everywhere.

Asked for a 10btc loan earlier also.

Hopefully the account will get locked/permabanned.
8240  Economy / Lending / Re: I would like to loan 10 BTC on: May 11, 2018, 09:21:05 PM
Valid collatoral worth at least 12BTC? If not then go - you won't get anything here.
