8221  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: July 12, 2017, 01:57:09 PM
Are you still going to claim that gold returns are worth it long-term wise?

Can we have a similar chart comparing the returns from DOW JONES to that from gold? I am sure that the stock markets gave better returns compared to bullion, and in the future also this scenario is going to prevail.
8222  Other / Politics & Society / Qatar is still the richest country in the world on: July 12, 2017, 01:52:45 PM
Despite the sanctions/blockade from Saudi Arabia and its allies, Qatar has maintained its position as the richest country in the world, ahead of Luxembourg. Interestingly, 4 out of the 5 countries are in the Asian continent, with Macau, Singapore, and Brunei occupying positions #3 to #5. Average wages in Qatar stands at $129,112 per head, which is almost double of that in the United States.

8223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin market crash on: July 12, 2017, 04:37:29 AM
I wouldn't put myself in a position where there’s a chance of losing everything, that Is why I choose to diversify whatever I can, whenever I can. Just because something is giving you huge profits (in this case, bitcoin) doesn’t mean you’d invest everything in it. I’d rather play it safe and scatter my assets in instruments that have varying degrees of risks associated with them.

You should diversify your assets, and at the same time you should be open to book profit or loss. If an asset has lost its importance, then it will be better to dump it (or at least partially). Remember the dot com bubble? Some of the stocks such as Webvan never recovered, and they were delisted after a  few years. We should make sure that the same does not happen with our crypto holdings.
8224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we moving towards the Global Crypto Currency Depression? on: July 12, 2017, 04:33:06 AM
I don't understand why the "analysts" are just concentrating on the extremely short duration. Take Ethereum as an example. It has risen from $2 per coin to almost $400 per coin (before falling back to around $190 per coin as of now), in less than two years. How can we call this as a depression or a recession? It is just a market correction.
8225  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is there going to be WAR in China and India ? on: July 12, 2017, 04:29:40 AM
The Chinese must realize that provoking India is going to give them different output when compared to the results they had in bullying small and weak nations such as Bhutan, Philippines and Vietnam. There are 1.3 billion Indians out there, and each and every one of them are ready to give their lives to defend the nation. The Chinese are going to get kicked in their asses this time.
8226  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is 1000 btc Possible on: July 12, 2017, 04:26:43 AM
There are a few altcoins, which have given up to 10,000% returns in the past. Even Bitcoin gave 100,000,000% returns between 2009 and 2013. But you can't expect such returns from BTC in the future, as it has grown so much.

And in 2009, at least one forecast said that in the coming years bitcoin will give such a huge profit? No one could have guessed that. Therefore, logical reflection here is not always appropriate. Fiat will not give such a profit, but it can give a crypto currency

Was there any such prediction in 2009? Because if there was one, then I haven't seen it. Bitcoin was pretty much unknown until early 2011. If someone predicted that BTC will give huge profits in 2009, then he is an extremely intelligent person.
8227  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-08] Venezuelans Keep Surviving Government Failures Thanks to Bitcoin a on: July 12, 2017, 04:21:42 AM
For the Venezuelans, there are very few options. The local currency is even worth less than the toilet paper. They can't store their wealth in the United States Dollar, due to the restrictions in owning foreign currency. Bitcoin is one of the few available options.
Very few people know about bitcoin. And I think that the government will specifically say that the crypto currency is dust. People are simply deceived and are in despair because of what is happening.

The people no longer trust the government in Venezuela. They had enough of the government's lies and deceptions. So even if the authorities engage in scare-mongering tactics against BTC, I doubt it is going to work beyond a certain limit.
8228  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-11] Cryptocurrency market cap down over $13 billion in one day on: July 12, 2017, 04:19:06 AM
A drop of 10% in the market cap is normal with crypto. I have seen far worse. Remember the blood bath we had when Mt Gox crashed? For a volatile asset such as Bitcoin, it is pretty normal to have ups and lows. And as far as I can see, the prices are recovering now, albeit rather slowly.
8229  Economy / Speculation / Re: the next few months....my predictions on: July 12, 2017, 04:17:06 AM
If Segwit2x does not fail in this "first round" (July/August), then BTC will be the clear winner. Look at the bloody streets on Poloniex et al. - RIP Flippening Grin

If Segwit2x fails - it had a bug/problem today on testnet related to the hard fork code - then anything can happen. Myself, in this case, would vote for the BIP148 fork. I think if it gets traction then, Bitcoin's price can recover fast. But if a supermajority gets on board on "Bitmaincoin" and the UASF fork is too weak, I see bloody streets like never before. The winner then will be probably Litecoin if it advances further with Lightning integration - it seems, for now, the cryptocoin that is less affected by the Great Altcoin Dump.

After reading your post, I have decided to make an investment in LTC. Litecoin is looking very attractive, and strong as of now. Also, in future I will be making investments in the Jihancoin or Bitmaincoin (whatever name you guys wan to call it). There is a good chance that if SegWit2x fails, then Jihancoin can give us huge ROI.
8230  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 per bitcoin on: July 12, 2017, 04:14:13 AM
I think we are going to spend $10,000 per bitcoin sooner than we thought because more countries are legalizing bitcoin. Australia is going to do it on July 1st, India is on its way. What do you think?

Still no clarity on the situation in India. It is not clear whether the government is going to legalize it or not. Already, many of the officials have said that Bitcoin is having a negative influence in the form of tax evasion and use in ransom demands. They may or may not legalize BTC. But even if they legalize BTC, the tax is going to be very heavy.
Good luck to the Indian government when trying to enforce that, laws can say whatever they want but that does not mean the laws can be enforced, look at the war on drugs, look at all the money spent, the resources, all the people in jail and drug usage instead of being down is up.

It is next to impossible to enforce a ban on the ownership of Bitcoins, due to the anonymity of the transactions. But that said, if the government authorities start harassing users who sell their fiat for BTC (or vice versa), then it can create a lot of headache to the Indian crypto-users.

We will see the uncertainty around the various transitions of USAF ... FORKS 2MBSegwit and whatever will see BTC price drop alot....then a winner will appear and go to 10K each or a market cap of circa $200B on its own within the year.

The question is, that winner BTC, ETH, LTC, IOTA, NEM or DASH?

IMO, BTC will be the winner. None of the other alts have even one-tenth of the userbase of BTC. Even if something bad happens in August, BTC will remain at the top. Another thing to remember is that whenever BTC drops, so does the other alts (perhaps even more sharply than the BTC).
8233  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-05] Unconfirmed Transactions Queue and Bitcoin Fees Drop Considerably on: July 11, 2017, 11:21:55 AM
The situation could have been much better, if some of the mining pools didn't played dirty games. Take a look at the recent blocks which were mined by GB Miners: https://blockchain.info/blocks/GBMiners

They refused to include the low-fee transactions in their blocks. These people needs to be taught a lesson. They are just too greedy.

no one here actually knows exactly what level of confirmed and unconfirmed TX are there because of the constantly  moving chain and the backward hang time that makes it stay where it is.

The backwards hang may be there. Even then, enough evidence exists to prove that miners such as Antpool are not allowing low-free transactions to get confirmed. Because there have been occasions where the block mined by AntPool was around 100KB, and the block mined 2-3 minutes after this block was 999KB.
8234  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-10]Wolf of Mt. Gox Mark Karpeles Faces Music in Tokyo on: July 11, 2017, 11:18:52 AM
He must be tried for culpable homicide. He stole almost $1 billion worth of coins and fiat cash. A number of people committed suicide after the hack happened. A lot many had their life savings gone for ever. The minimum sentence should be life without parole.
8235  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-05]Darknet Market AlphaBay Down: Exit Scam or Maintenance? on: July 11, 2017, 11:16:42 AM
It can be an exit scam, or more likely, it can be a hack by a third party. Please remember that the amount is less than BTC1,500. I am sure that Alphabay is having more than BTC25,000 in the cold storage, considering its popularity and the number of users.
8236  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Another big and convenient way to trade bitcoin on: July 11, 2017, 10:42:39 AM
IMO GBTC is the worst possible way to invest in bitcoin at this point. Each share of GBTC has a 68pct markup over the market value of the bitcoin it holds. That means you are buying 32pct bitcoin 68pct nothing along with an annual fee for the marketers of GBTC to overcharge you by 68pct.

https://www.bloomberg.com/quote/GBTC:US

Note the premium. IMO do not buy this ETF you only get 32 cents of BTC for every dollar you pay. There is fine arbitrage long term by buying equal ammount BTC direct and selling GBTC etf short.  Please if you care about your wealth do not buy that etf it is all air with an annual fee for nothing.

Why people are purchasing GBTC shares, when they can easily purchase coins from Bitstamp or Localbitcoins? I have heard about sellers charging 5% or at the most 10% (in the case of ATMs) markup for BTC. But 68%? Seriously? This is not only insane, but also criminal.

I am thinking .. to put all my money in bitcoin what do you think? is it a good way to grow my money? or it is risky or.. ?

Right now, only around 10% of my net wealth is in the form of Bitcoin and other crypto-currency. The rest is in the form of equities, real estate and bullion (only gold). I am planning to increase the share of BTC to around 25%, but it is not going to happen overnight.
8239  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Most efficient way of moving money between Exchanges on: July 11, 2017, 10:32:04 AM
Just forget about moving cash from one exchange to the other. If you are unlucky, then the payment can get stuck and it can take at least a month. Also, there is no direct method to do this. First you need to withdraw fiat from the first exchange to your bank account or CC, and then you need to deposit this cash in the second exchange.
8240  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Poll: Daytraders, how many trades do you make per day on average? on: July 11, 2017, 10:29:13 AM
When I used to do day trading (I no longer does, after incurring some losses in shorting LTC against Bitcoin), I was doing around 4-5 trades per day. I was using BTC-e (which is not a very good exchange for day trading), and my sole currency pair was BTC-LTC.
