8241  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Blockchain Virus on: May 28, 2014, 05:59:52 AM
I had ?false? positives aswell in my avast. If I'm searching on startups, it shows me potential unwanted programs. For ex. "diskspoiler" in the blockchain of the armory!

Pretty sure that someone put virus signatures in the blockchain and some virusscanners read the damn things as viral
That said if you downloaded it from the source there is no reason to assume your getting attacked by viruses and they are just false positives that are detected by your viruscanner

Epic comment though file must be less than 10 MB

Sadly the first option you gave won't work: "Samples must be less than 10MB", the blockchain is at 16.6GiB right now.

I'll be the first end-user to say the names are confusing/too similar.

Strangely enough I was wondering when this would become an official thread on bitcointalk
Did mix the two up myself anyways it does seem like a bad idea to use an established brand name
8243  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin volume in $ value up 600% from May 17 on: May 28, 2014, 04:35:59 AM
I am hoping the price is stable for a while before any meteoric rise. I think we need more infrastructure to truly realize the value.

Its more a boom and bust the underlying infrastructure is built up and that becomes the new base for a meteoric rise
Anyways would like a nice increase in value since it means that their will be more interested capital entering into Bitcoin

Boom an bust keeps people on the sidelines and keeps it from realizing the potential it has as a currency. I do think the capital flows in either way so it works out in the end.

As long as the underlying transaction volume keeps rising and more people use it the price is not as important a process as TrailingComet pointed out.
That said most of the transactions now are real ones
When Satoshidice was in heavy use it wrote a lot of transactions and bets onto the blockchain to verify so transaction volumes were seriously inflated, now that effect is less and we are seeing more real volume.
In the end stability does help in keeping people interested but economic growth cycles also seem to follow the rise and fall cycles so both do work in practice, and the capital flows in either way in the end.

The only real difference is that there is no bailout for bad performers all benefits and consequences of that considered.
Mtgox collapse being a recent example
8244  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is your Wish? on: May 28, 2014, 04:08:24 AM
Being immortal is nice.

That could backfire pretty badly though. Imagine being effectively immortal and locked away in a cage somewhere for all eternity.  Tongue

Well in that case I would hope that I was a smart enough immortal to install a self destruct option on my body
Since I am immortal things that would normally kill a person would not apply
So a suicide type of attack might come in handy instead of being captured and tortured for all eternity lol.

For actual immortality, I don't see how you could possibly find a way to kill yourself; it would be in contradiction to the whole concept if you could. Of course, this being mostly a "magical" attribute, as no organism has ever been found that was effectively immortal (tardigrades being close, but not quite there Grin), I guess there is plenty of room to imagine how this could work, and how one could get out of an unpleasant situation derived from it.

Now, something simpler, like not aging, would have some of the same benefits of immortality, plus you could still die by other means if the need arose.

I meant you could make it pretty difficult to be captured have a nuke installed in your body
Explosive magic if its allowed
That said since it is actual immortality anything that would physically kill a human might not apply
Besides those dragonball Z scenarios where Cell gets literally wiped with a KI wave down to an atom to stop all forms of regeneration
The other type of immortality would be the Highlander type where there can be only one but your basically an immortal until your neck is chopped off causing a Quickening
So I guess the immortality that makes you immune from a natural death and the type that makes you immortal to all forms of death
In Science there are the Hela Cells
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HeLa
Or Jellyfish
http://www.boredpanda.com/turritopsis-nutricula-immortal-jellyfish/

I was referring to general immortality to natural death as a wish or to the point that it is nearly impossible to be killed unless they wish for it.

Just wait a few months and then this will be the real first 1000th post
I guess this is a milestone for the AM thread congrats
Now I bow down and keep waiting for Friedcat to appear
8247  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 28, 2014, 12:31:52 AM
I've gotta say, this sure is pretty rude of him. He must know that everyone was going to be waiting for this day and to not even mention that there was a delay is pretty heartless:(

If friedcat wants to concentrate on results instead of PR, I am happy with that.  A few days one way or the other doesn't make too much difference at this point.  My personal thought was that the 27th was a typo, and Wednesday the 28th was more likely because... Wednesday!  No Wednesday happy dance in some time, and I'm about ready!

That might be a good observation Friedcat's dividend schedule was always set to Wednesday and most news releases also come on Tuesdays or Wednesdays if I think back on it.

Keeps the party hat on for the day and night if it goes that long just hope he doesn't catch me napping when he makes the post Smiley
8248  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What is going to happen with these signature campaigns ? on: May 28, 2014, 12:19:00 AM
Last time Bitcoin-prices went up, the payouts of these ad-campaigns went down. I imagine that will happen again when Bitcoin goes up significantly again.

That is about right the exchange rate per post drops after a certain price point
I believe it was 1000 dollars the last time primedice adjusted its rates down and then it steadily increased it as new entrants entered into the marketplace to compete with its price.
That said if the price rises a lot in a short period the ad rates will decrease in bitcoin
8249  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: blockchain.info - so god damn unreliable. on: May 28, 2014, 12:17:16 AM
Still working fine for me at least a few times per day.

I've recently started using blockchain.  I don't understand what blockchain is though, is it a private entity?  How can they have the block explorer on there but also offer free wallets to everyone?

blockchain.info currently has some ad revenue and maybe affiliate programs. Also, I think they have premium services in the future, or other plans for more income.

If I recall correctly blockchain.info even has some spare cash now and are buying other companies
So I do expect that there will be premium services in the future
Overall it is still very reliable for a webwallet and the only one that hasn't stolen a large amount that's been around for a long time Smiley

Either that or Friedcat forgot

8251  Economy / Speculation / Re: Another Bitcoin Analyst on: May 28, 2014, 12:10:30 AM
Just ran the numbers, my average buyin is about $773. This includes a few laptops specifically for bitcoin use, minor transportation costs and a parking ticket.

This is satisfactory. If bitcoin reaches even a fraction of its potential then I already have enough to last a lifetime. Just need a little patience.

I agree with you can dollar cost average it to a lower rate since the present rate is lower than the current rate
That said it's not a bad entry point for the potential it has just need to be patient Smiley
8252  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does martingale really works? on: May 28, 2014, 12:08:26 AM
Simply put a martingale does not really work in practice because you always eventually run out of funds
Now if you had a really large amount or started from a single satoshi and doubled up every time
You would probably not be able to make that much and need to repeat the martingale sequence from the beginning after making a certain profit
But possible just time consuming
8253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin be used to sent money to family in Cambodia ? on: May 28, 2014, 12:05:42 AM
I believe yes if they have a mobile phone and can download an online wallet
The question is finding an exchange to convert the bitcoins into local currency
Oh edit looks like there are services in Cambodia that's neat I learned something

8255  Other / Politics & Society / Re: you get Richer as the Older You’ll Get on: May 27, 2014, 05:36:04 AM
If you are saving you have accumulated more when you are old than when you are young and you enjoy the compounded interests of your savings

I have seen bankrupt pensioners, who don't have a penny in their savings bank accounts. I have also seen young people (in their 30s) with massive bank balances.. so this is not always the case.

Well that is true but one has to wonder what the story is
Chances are those 30 year old massive bank balances could have lost it all just because of the thing called time by the time they reach their senior years
You know gamble it all one night in Vegas lol
8256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Its shocking and depressing to read BOTS made bitcoin boom! on: May 27, 2014, 05:31:30 AM
So the argument is that Bots secretly control the price
I think it overvalues the influence the bot has
8257  Economy / Economics / Re: Personal finance advice / ideas needed on: May 27, 2014, 05:27:53 AM
Well the bank is fine until it messes with you
It really depends what country your in and what bank you use
Anyways congrats at least you now have money to invest and that is a step in the right direction making it earn money for you
Regarding rental properties some people do that for a living see (rentalstarter) But the normal person would probably just buy a duplex or triple and rent one or two parts of it to subsidizes their own house.
Saving accounts while safe do not have a yield worth betting on if anything if your banks are making record profits its better to join them and receive the dividend plus the shares than having it sit in the savings account
(Can't beat them join them lol)
Bitcoins at 8% is a fairly good amount assuming you have quite a few so its good for diversifying
As for the stock market well there are also bonds which are a far larger market than the stock market so might be worth looking at

So onto your question regarding 100,000 Euros and how to spend them
- Find a few good companies that pay a solid dividend to supplement income
- Put a percentage into riskier plays
- Get some commodities and shares
- Read a few financial magazines to see strategies
- I guess since you have Bitcoin consider Litecoin as well

Your strategy seems fairly safe so not a bad strategy already would increase the Bitcoin holdings to around 15% then sell off the difference if you have the patience to cover your initial investment about it.
8258  Economy / Economics / Re: Collapse or dollar= collapse of Rome= armagedon, but WHY!? on: May 27, 2014, 05:00:06 AM
Well it would create a fiat and bank run on the USD to other currencies
However there is a basket of available currencies to run towards or resources heck even Bitcoin
So what will happen is that the USA will lose a fair bit of its reserve currency status and cause a case of contagion
That may be contained but not without doing some serious damage to jobs and industries
8259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CoinMap lists IRS building as venue that accepts Bitcoin as payment on: May 27, 2014, 04:57:26 AM
Hmm someone must have put a joke entry into the database
Not a nice thing to do

Coinmap pulls OpenStreetmap data. I suspect somebody vandalized the database. Like Wikipedia, anybody is allowed to edit.

Agree that seems about right
8260  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: blockchain.info - so god damn unreliable. on: May 27, 2014, 04:49:54 AM
That's unusual I have only counted it being down a handful of times
That said if you use an ATM machine linked to its prices then it would be annoying to see it down
