8261  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Blockstream's new Aqua Wallet on: September 27, 2020, 03:52:42 PM
However, where are they getting the exchange rate of $11,057 from? That's a $400 mark up, which is a further almost 4% "hidden" fee. So all in your total fee is going to work out to around 8%.
However, you are right about their exchange rate. It's $11,098 (Aqua) vs $10,720 (Preev). A difference of around 3.4% + their 4% for a total of ~7% (without the network fee). Expensive, but still a lot cheaper than any ATM.

Yeap. That was definitely the shocking part.

But anywayyy, the premiums surely suck, but what I'm more surprised about is the no KYC part. I know, it's not like you're totally private as you're paying through Apple Pay(whereas Apple has your personal information), but still. I'm pretty sure I'm missing something here on how they're able to run this service legally and in a regulated manner.

And while we're at it, has anyone here actually tried Liquid?
8262  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Blockstream's new Aqua Wallet on: September 27, 2020, 03:40:44 PM
This sounds pretty obvious. You are trying to buy $1 of BTC, of couse most of it will be fees. Try buying $100 and you will pay "only" $4.2 on fees. That's 4.2% (it's actually 4% + 30c according to their FAQ), which is acceptable when we talk about buying crypto with a credit card. The lowest I have seen is Crypto.com with 3.5%, though they are waiving this fee for a limited amount of time. Most ATMs charge more than 20% or even 30%.

Completely aware of the fees. But still, it's their "transaction fee"(not the network fee), plus their exchange rate premium(which seems to be like $350 above current prices). Seems to still be quite expensive. But then again, I really don't use custodial services such as Crypto.com to buy bitcoin so there's that. 🤷‍♂️
8263  Economy / Service Discussion / Blockstream's new Aqua Wallet on: September 27, 2020, 02:48:52 PM

So Blockstream just recently released their new Aqua Wallet, that apparently supports Bitcoin and "all assets issued on the Liquid Network". And apparently, you can buy bitcoin through the Aqua app(through Apple pay) with no KYC required. Quite intriguing, so I downloaded the app with plans of testing this specific functionality.

Aaaand.. yea.. not available in my jurisdiction. In hindsight, I should've expected this. Roll Eyes

Has anyone tried this out yet? Is this even legal? Selling bitcoin without AML/KYC?

If anyone wants to try it out: https://blockstream.com/aqua/

Unfortunately it's only available on iOS. And unfortunately, the fees are like WTF. Tried buying $1 of bitcoin and it was asking me for like $1.89($.55 network fee). I'd rather buy from bitcoin ATMs than purchase through this lmao.

Also, idk why they didn't just bundle these features up with the Blockstream Green Wallet instead.

8264  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict the bitcoin price range as we enter the New Year on: September 27, 2020, 02:37:47 PM
I personally think bitcoin's price will be between $8,000 - $12,000. Boring answer, I know. I chose the 8k-10k option though because I think it's a bit more likely. Why? Idunno, I'm just not that bullish in the short term; though your $12k-$14k pick is surely really possible too. If it does reach that price point, I'm guessing it will be because the stock market rises more; and as we know, bitcoin has been following the S&P500 for a while now.
8265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Yearly Lows on: September 27, 2020, 08:52:35 AM
We still have 3 months left in 2020, and definitely A LOT can happen in that decently short time span. I personally wouldn't call $3850 the bottom just yet as bitcoin has historically surprised us a lot in it's past price movements(regardless if in the downside or upside).

Price history repeat itself above all this analysis shows the gradual progression and growth of Bitcoin and this analysis could use to plot and predict the future price of Bitcoin.
It definitely shows that, but the "Past performance is no guarantee of future results" phrase may(or may not) apply in bitcoin's case.
8266  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Question] MiUI security on: September 27, 2020, 04:02:29 AM
Btw I'm Storing my private keys in the notes app on my mobile which is connected with Mi cloud. So, if I lost the mobile I still can recover it on any type of device.

Trust me when I say that this is a huge disaster waiting to happen. There's a reason why a lot of people in the cryptocurrency space suggest against storing your private keys digitally; and storing the keys on some company's servers is like 10x worse.
8267  Other / Meta / Re: The strict policy in Bitcointalk. on: September 27, 2020, 02:39:44 AM
Bitcointalk wouldn't be this strict for no reason. The merit system and the heavy anti-plagiarism countermeasures probably wouldn't even exist if there weren't a huge number of spammers in this forum(remember 2017?). Thankfully though, the quality of this forum increased exponentially after the merit system so there's that.
8268  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Question] MiUI security on: September 26, 2020, 04:00:20 PM
just a suggestion from me, don't save crypto assets on a smartphone.  choose proper storage and indeed specifically for crypto.
I'd say unrooted/unjailbroken mobile phones are mostly better for low-amount crypto storage compared to desktop devices.

because I lost my smartphone and I no longer have access to my assets
It ain't going to matter whatever device you use to store your coin's keys if you don't write down a backup of your wallet's recovery seed, which was the reason why you weren't able to gain back access to your assets.
8269  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A woman has been arrested in the United States for hiring a killer with bitcoin on: September 26, 2020, 03:42:10 PM
Though the bitcoin was definitely used in an unfortunate manner, well, in the end, it's just bitcoin being used the same way fiat money like the USD is being used. Surprise, I guess? Just a topic that got to the headlines because bitcoin is involved.
8270  Economy / Speculation / Re: The reason bitcoin price is not stable. on: September 26, 2020, 03:20:15 PM
OK, how can someone know a way of prediction, because many people can't predict well if its the remedy. I taught that to know when the price is about to increase or reduce (raise and fall) is base on bitcoin chat due to better interpretation of candle stick in the chat.

With charting and technical analysis, you pretty much just weigh in the likeliness and odds of how the price will move, but not necessarily "predict" it. Try using technical analysis to predict price movements caused by bullish/bearish news and events, then I'll be impressed.
8271  Economy / Speculation / Re: The reason bitcoin price is not stable. on: September 26, 2020, 02:11:52 PM
It's a mix of a couple of things. On the top of my head:

1. Bitcoin lacks liquidity. Compared to other assets like large-cap stocks and gold that are heavily heavily traded, it will take a HUGE amounts of money to move the price of both assets as there's simply just so much money involved(including the money of huge companies). Bitcoin on the other hand, it's safe to assume that it's still mostly retail traders(me, you, the average Joe) who trade the markets.

2. Back to the retail traders(and investors) part: a lot of people got into bitcoin without any knowledge at all concerning trading and investing. A lot of people bought in, expecting the price to go up in no time. And what happens when the price dips or when a news site writes something negative about bitcoin? A lot of these people panic; simply due to their inexperience with trading and investing.

3. Bitcoin is a very new asset. Large-cap stocks have existed for a couple of decades, and gold has existed pretty much since the earth existed. As for bitcoin? Pretty much 11 years old. It's really unrealistic to have such a young asset like bitcoin to be "stable" in price. If anything, the volatility is good if you want value growth.

How can someone study bitcoin to the extent to know when bitcoin is about to fall and when is about to raise so that the level of lost can reduce.
Unless you know of a way to predict people's emotions with pinpoint precision, you just really can't. And if ever someone knew how, I'm pretty sure that person wouldn't tell you how as he/she would be too busy racking in cash from trading.
8272  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Want to start my own faucet on: September 26, 2020, 01:11:34 PM
You are absolutely right because now most of services want some better sites or blogs instead of faucets so its not good idea to have this one better try with some other way is much better like if you want to increase income then try to have some better skills or learn some better way to increase right now going with faucet never helps you.

Yeap, and it's quite an obvious reason why. If an ad network allows their ads to be put on faucet sites, advertisers would be turned off from using that specific ad network because obviously they won't be able to take much advantage of the ads and get some clicks because people who go to faucet sites, well, go there for the faucet! Conversions and CPM would be too low.
8273  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Not your keys, not your Crypto – Kucoin Hacked! $150m Stolen. on: September 26, 2020, 08:21:32 AM
They disabled deposit and withdrawals, but coins are still being moved. So the exchange itself is hacked (the cold wallets). So user 2FA (and KYC. Not sure what this has to do with user security) has no use. And yeah, all exchanges does have some sort of vulnerability that they aren't aware of.

It has already been confirmed by them that it was their hot wallets. A hack of an exchange cold wallet is obviously going to be FAR more disastrous than this.

And yea, what joniboini said. 2FA didn't matter because the hacker/s went straight for the wallets and not their user's accounts. Doesn't mean you should stop using 2FA, obviously.
8274  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: My newbie tanong on: September 26, 2020, 05:34:27 AM
1. Kung gustong potentially na maka mura(of course compare mo ung prices para sigurado), try p2p trading sites like Binance P2P and HodlHodl. Mahal talaga sa custodial exchanges gaya ng Coins.ph dahil ang focus ng exchanges na to is user friendliness.

2. Possible. Pero obviously, possible rin na matalo. Completely depends sa skills(and konting luck) mo.

3. Actually learn muna before diving in. May mga serbisyo na available gaya ng eToro kung saan pwede ka gumawa ng "virtual account", kung saan bibigyan ka ng play money para makapag trade ka without risking your (real)money.

4. Ito ung isa sa mga bagay na you need to find out yourself. Kumbaga, pwedeng mas successful ako sa pagtrade ng BTC/USD, pero pwedeng mas successful ka pag ETH/USD. Parang ganun.
8275  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Want to start my own faucet on: September 26, 2020, 05:27:04 AM
I'm sorry if this is not the answer you're looking for, but I don't think creating a faucet site is really the way to go when wanting to earn about crypto. Reading and trying things out is still a lot better and productive of your time. Not to mention that faucets have been slowly but surely dying down throughout the years.

As for profit, I've ran a small faucet site years ago, and if my memory serves me right, a good number of ad networks don't like accepting faucet sites to use their service(not sure right now though).
8276  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: money from website traffic that pays with BTC on: September 26, 2020, 05:23:31 AM
Most of the time, affiliate links are the way to go in my book. When you use affiliate programs correctly, that can be A LOT less obstructive and annoying in the end user's perspective. Not only that, affiliate programs could potentially earn you a lot more money; though this completely depends on what your website's niche is.
8277  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Not your keys, not your Crypto – Kucoin Hacked! $150m Stolen. on: September 26, 2020, 03:19:48 AM
If $150m was hacked, it's probably safe to assume that it's probably their hot wallets that got accessed.

With that said though, let's not come to conclusions immediately and wait for an actual announcement regardless how shady things currently are. But yea, definitely don't leave funds unnecessarily on exchanges.

EDIT: So, it really is their hot wallet lol. At least they're going to cover the lost funds, I guess?

8278  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My newbie stress reliever on: September 25, 2020, 04:26:36 PM
But, it was successful and I continue to manage for another successful transfer. I just notice something the transfer fees cost almost 4 USD was it normal transaction fee?
The Ethereum blockchain has been quite congested lately hence the quite-high fees. Funnily enough, bitcoin has had cheaper fees since the past month.

ETH network seem better to understand than bitcoin blockchain network.
It's actually the total opposite. Bitcoin is far simpler to understand simply because, well, it's a lot simpler! Ethereum is trying to be a lot of things at a time that it's a huge mess.

Bitcoin is at higher price and too risky to get involved after seeing its graph which has been to almost flat 3k usd.
Yeap, and it's not impossible for something similar to happen again. That's why when investing in speculative assets such as bitcoin, you need to control your risk. In general, it's better for an inexperienced investor to risk an amount of money that would sting just a bit when that asset's price crashes, but at the same time that you didn't risk so much money that you'd be homeless.

And lastly, in my opinion, don't delve too much into "cryptocurrency" in general as you're going to find a lot of crap in it. Here are some BETTER topics(in my opinion, of course) that you should delve into:

  • Internet security
  • Internet privacy
  • Finance and Investing in general

And yes, I didn't even mention Bitcoin in the short list because I think these things are far more important to learn first.
8279  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cyber attack could be very dangerous on: September 25, 2020, 01:39:13 PM
Cyber-attack has always be on the rise. How can this be solved?

Surprise surprise, as we move more and more into a digital world, it ain't stopping soon!

While operating systems and or internet services in general have been trying to make their ecosystems as secure as possible, one of the best ways to secure yourself is to educate yourself. In the first place, social engineering attacks whereas the hackers attack the weakest point(the user itself), has been one of the most effective types of attacks since you don't even need to be a best developer to be able to trick people into handing over important data.
8280  Local / Altcoins (Pilipinas) / Re: Any USDT (TRC20) to fiat conversion within the Philippines? on: September 25, 2020, 11:21:10 AM
Just a suggestion: Trust wallet > Binance > trade USDT to XRP > send XRP to a custodial wallet like coins.ph or Abra then convert XRP to PHP. If ang P2P sa Binance supports PHP address ng coins.ph then matapos mong mabenta withdraw to coins.ph then mas madali yun, pero mukhang hindi naman ata (correct me if I'm wrong) haven't used that P2P kasi masyadong daming kailangan maging P2P trader.

This solution is great kung maliit na halaga lang ung icoconvert at para makatipid sa murang transaction fees ng XRP, pero pag malaking pera ang pinag uusapan, kakainin ung funds mo dito dahil sa exchange fees. Bali USDT to XRP at XRP to PHP dalawang palitan rin un. Dipende nalang sa kung magkano ung balak iexchange ni OP.
