8381  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: May 11, 2021, 07:13:34 AM
The pelicans vs grizzlies matchup tonight presents some interesting gambling aspects. With the pelicans trying to tank for a higher draft spot and the grizzlies set for the play in tournament, you have to suspect the grizzlies might be resting a bit for the play in tourney expecting the pelicans to not bring their best. The huge spread might come into play here. With the pelicans not trying to win though I’m not sure if they can even stay within 9 of a semi-resting grizzlies team. Thoughts?

Looks like the Pelicans came through and lost the game to keep the tank alive but covered the spread to keep their betting fans happy. Sort of what I thought might happen but I didn’t have any money on the line. I feel like late season NBA gambling is more about knowing the politics than picking the better team…

Don’t.
8383  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: blockfi sending eth there for interest gains? on: May 10, 2021, 11:46:46 PM
I’ve got ETH staked at Coinbase earning 6%. It feels as safe as can be for me, but I don’t hold a large % of my crypto portfolio in ETH so it doesn’t bother me much having it on an exchange. Plus, it had to be locked into ETH2 with no way to trade it, so not even I could steal it from myself until they unlock ETH2 for trading. That along with Coinbase being flush with cash from their recent IPO makes me think there is no safer place my ETH could be right now.
8384  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Will crypto debit cards work even in restricted country? on: May 10, 2021, 11:41:38 PM
Rather than using a debit card to spend crypto (there are several out there), I’m more interested in the coming Coinbase card that will offer you free crypto back as spending rewards. I might have to get that puppy and set up all my bills to hit it. Don’t spend your crypto, earn more of it!
8385  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I need to site to filter Volume and Price on: May 10, 2021, 11:36:35 PM
Looking to get in early on the pumps huh? Be careful and keep in mind the potential tax nightmare of jumping from coin to coin. Especially if you’re doing so on exchanges where you’ve provided KYC. They will most likely report your activity and leave you with a lot of line items to report.
8386  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to create a bitcoin mixer on: May 10, 2021, 11:34:45 PM
Check what mocacinno wrote. Some real gems there.

I'd just like to reinforce the difficulty of actually setting something like this up. You'll need a significant amount of capital to start, advertise, and maintain your service. You'd also have to deal with the regulatory side of things which will likely be very muddy waters.

Even the most established mixers like Bitmixer have shut down before, and they probably had million dollar revenue generating businesses. Chipmixer has been victim to multiple attacks on their websites too. Handling these things will be a nightmare if you're not fully prepared.

This. I would think creating the mixer is the easy part. Jumping through regulatory hurdles and keeping the site online would most likely be the major challenges you would face and depending on where you are located, may be impossible to overcome. Good luck!
8387  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: SIMPLEX.com is a fraud company. You have been warned. on: May 10, 2021, 11:33:03 PM
Isn’t this the company that just announced a major deal with SAFEMOON to help get user funds from fiat into SAFEMOON with less middlemen? Seeing such old scam complaints is definitely not a good sign for that arrangement. I hope everyone is able to get what they purchase.
8388  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mixers under the threat? on: May 10, 2021, 11:31:21 PM
I’m amazed mixers are still operating after all this time. It seems like they have got to be high on the list of regulators looking to shut down sketchy operations. I assume those remaining are probably operating out of interesting locations or doing their best to remain anonymous. I think it would be pretty safe to assume that regulators will be trying everything they can to arrest operators of high volume mixers as well as attempt to unmask their user base.
8389  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: So, gate.io needs KYC from me before allowing withdrawals? on: May 10, 2021, 11:28:56 PM
This appears to be a new thing with gate.io. As others stated this is probably not going to be the end of captive crypto as enchanted implement KYC. The only way to trade if that isn’t an option you would consider might be with decentralized exchanges. This is why dexes have been extremely popular as of late and Uniswap and pancakeswap have been on a tear. If you haven’t familiarized yourself with decentralized exchanges, you should probably start doing so.
8390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: When can transaction be dropped from mempool on: May 10, 2021, 11:22:04 PM
I think people would be surprised how many custom implementations of Bitcoin software are used by miners and even regular Bitcoiners who want to help maintain the blockchain without being bound to “defaults” set by some random team of individuals. Thinking about it, it’s actually pretty dumb to claim a “default” setting on the mempool based on one wallet, not to mention incorrect.
It isn't wrong to be talking about the reference implementations though. There isn't any reason for people to be messing with their default mempool size and thus it would be safe to assume that most people which runs the reference client (Bitcoin Core) do not change the various settings that doesn't directly affect them (minmempoolfee, minrelayfee, mempoolsize). Miners probably don't run the reference implementation but if a user creates a transaction after it gets dropped, it would probably have a higher fee and miners would definitely want that transaction to be relayed to them.

While the mempool is unique and specific to each node, your best and most accurate assumption would be based on the typical default behavior of the majority.

It is actually wrong if the user is asking about the mempool and the responses are talking about one wallet’s default settings. It’s important to actually understand the things you’re talking about when answering people’s questions because you don’t want to lead someone’s education down the wrong path. If he left here thinking the mempool had a 2 week limit and built a project hinged around that fundamental misconception, it could have costly side effects. Assumptions don’t work when it comes to developers and currency.
8391  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you ready for Virtual sports based stock market? on: May 10, 2021, 11:10:14 PM
I really like the idea behind this but it’s got a way to go I think before I would be interested in being a consumer.  The thought of picking a team and having it’s gambling performance act as a return on investment seems pretty amazing. I think there would be some difficulty involved with spreads and takes that might result in the long term value of all teams falling, but perhaps a market could prop up that profits from providing liquidity that could fuel teams’ return of value.
8392  Economy / Gambling / Re: Cryptolottostore.com - TWO NEW MILLIONAIRES MADE IN ONE DAY! on: May 10, 2021, 11:06:48 PM
Being able to create millionaires is a pretty amazing thing to say you’ve done. 2 in one day is almost unbelievable. They say that getting rich is nice, but providing avenues for others to reach success is god tier. Granted gambling may not have been what people had in mind, but it’s hard to argue with end results. Congrats to the newly minted millionaires.
8393  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk NFT tokens on: May 10, 2021, 10:09:39 PM
NFTs seem perhaps maybe less than useful for bitcointalk. I would propose something that might fit in a little more here. Bitcointalk branded microwave popcorn. That way you can enjoy some bitcointalk brand popcorn while reading the latest drama. Perhaps even a brand of tea to go along with it.

Countdown until someone creates BSV themed Cool-Aid packets.

“I know the ones that love us will miss us.”

-Keanu Reeves when asked if he knows what happens when people die. A touching and heartfelt answer that always rings true. I may not have known Becky666, or ever had any interaction with the user, but I feel for those who will be left missing them as a result of what sounds to be a tragedy.
8395  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An obvious rigging of Sports. on: May 10, 2021, 10:02:39 PM
Obviously there is rigging in sports. It’s pretty rare in professional sports though. Sure it happens all the time in high school and is even somewhat common in college sports, but professional athletes are compensated to ensure that things like this don’t happen. When you’re playing for a paycheck you should feel a higher obligation to respect the sanctity of the game. The recent NBA referee scandal comes to mind as an example of it getting into the highest levels of sports.

I’m still mad about the Lakers beating the Kings in the playoffs because of that scandal and the Lakers beating the Suns in the playoffs. Damn crooked referee kept both my teams from their shot at a title.
8396  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: May 10, 2021, 09:58:27 PM
My question is, will AD and LeBron James maintain this consistency in the playoffs?
I would not doubt them, as long as they qualify in the playoffs, their opponent should still feel that they are not the favorites because they are playing against Lebron and the defending champion. Davis seems 100% already, and Lebron will also come back soon, they are just a complete and healthy team going to the playoffs. However, the current lineup should keep winning to get the top 6 spot, and since they beat the Suns, they can beat the teams that they will have to play in the remaining games of their schedule.

After the career LeBron has had, I don’t think he could ever be counted out of a championship run as long as he’s able to get on the floor. The end of his days dominating other teams is definitely fast approaching, but I think he’s got a little magic left in the gas tank for this year’s run. Next year he might need some additional help from another star addition.

8398  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin Supply Be Manipulated? on: May 10, 2021, 07:34:26 PM
Anything can happen.  That really isn't a question.  I think the question you should be asking is what scenarios could present themselves that would cause the development team to pursue a change in Bitcoin's supply.   Personally, I think it would be the end of Bitcoin if this happened, so it's rather unlikely, but things do happen.  Maybe the government would make the Core team an offer they couldn't refuse.  Maybe more nefarious activities from more scrupulous individuals could even be at play.  I don't think the community would stand for it though, and ultimately they would need massive support to make something like this happen, which is why I say it is extremely unlikely.
8399  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: May 10, 2021, 07:28:39 PM
Anthony Davis seems to have been warming up for the playoff mode. 42 points of shooting close to 50% with 12 rebounds , 3 steals and 3 blocks. Which lead them to win comfortably against the Suns. Lakers were the 3/1 underdogs. Impressive showing. I dont know how Pelicans managed to beat the Hornets where scary Terry got 43 points but not enough as they lose by 2 while NOP were without their stars Zion, Ingram.
That's Anthony Davis but when I see him play he is still not putting 100% see how he runs the floor he is still cautious and maybe holding back, good to see Andre playing good tonight but Davis is the most noticeable tonight, hope that when LeBron comeback they are ready to destroy their opponents in the playoffs.

I'm just hoping they don't have to end up in the play-in tournament facing Golden State.  While that would make for some entertaining television watching them meet with new teams and in new circumstances, I don't think anyone wants to have their playoff hopes resting on Steph Curry's shoulders.  Come to think of it, maybe this is the outcome we should be rooting for.  It might be the only chance we have to see a Lebron vs Steph matchup in the "post" season, if you can call it that.

Anthony Davis went off tonight against the Phoenix Suns. This is the first game he’s had since he’s been back where he’s been truly dominant scoring over 40 points and shooting nearly 50% from the field in the Lakers win. Granted the Suns aren’t the biggest team to match up against AD, the stats are impressive nonetheless.
