Our modern financial system(federal reserve) is a pretty darn amazing invention. Money is never wasted.

Now, we do have quite a bit of economic inequality right now, especially here in the United States, but that is less a factor of the financial system than the political system, and plenty of countries with similar financial systems to ours have more equitable distributions of wealth.

BitCoin alternatives

There are plenty of alternatives to BitCoin.

You can use regular money on your grid by way of PayPal and PayPal Micropayments. These modules are widely available for OpenSim and many hosting companies will set you up for little or no extra cost.

You can use the OMC currency from Virwox — which also supports BitCoin trading, if you want your customers to have the option to use BitCoin in some capacity.

And you can issue your own currency. That has some legal implications as well (see yesterday’s article Virtual Currency 101), and you have to be careful about how your set up your currency, but if you do it right you get to keep all the money you make from selling your currency in addition to providing a fun, low-cost way for your users to spend money in-world.

Hosting companies Dreamland Metaverse and TalentRaspel specialize in setting up custom virtual currencies for private grids — and the Website infrastructure needed to manage them. And the currency modules are also available, if you have the technical skills to set it up on your own.

844  Economy / Services / Re: [WTB] Java coder to generate a Bitcoin Address using Bouncy Castle on: July 04, 2012, 08:27:50 AM
Not java but check out https://github.com/weex/addrgen

^--- Aims to be a minimal single address generator and outputs random {"address","privkey"} pair with commented options to generate from a passphrase, existing privkey, and more.

Thanks Python is usually straight forward. I could always use a python example in my Pseudocode Client Documentation.

846  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC on: July 04, 2012, 04:43:27 AM
This has nothing to do with ASIC, but just a side flaw of the current bitcoin implementation.
Troll alert...... This has nothing to do with ASIC just Bitcoin? (Yet the thread is titled ASIC)

Do you understand the definition of an open-protocol?

848  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC = The end of decentralized mining on: July 04, 2012, 12:53:34 AM
So I'm not up on all the type of mining technologies but I'm guessing ASICs' will cost a lot?

there is a high upfront cost to begin production, but once that's done, repeated production is dirt cheap on a chip by chip scale. hard to start up, but once going, easy to keep running.
So basically the debate is "Scince only rich can start producing low cost ASICs' hardware that must mean that they are centralizing the hashing power favor to them and in turn somehow are going to influence how Bitcoin works?"

or am I just not understanding how ASIC is the end of decentralized mining?
849  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC on: July 03, 2012, 11:42:53 PM
  b) You should build in "p2pool" into the protocol to avoid pooling.

Just something odd about this type of assumption, but I don't know enough about ASIC's to really give an adequate answer.

I'm going to have to respond with, What nobody agrees with p2pool integrated into the protocol and still use the current one?

Why would you trust a forum status? What you need to do is use the Web of Trust and look back on the history of the member you are dealing with... If it looks sketchy don't use'em. If there is no reason not to trust him with the level of money involved then try it out..... No need to create a thread to spread some kind of bias-virus around the forums

Apparently not too many people are worried about anonminity as a feature. thats a good sign. But darn it I thought a bit-illion dollar idea...
858  Economy / Services / Re: [WTB] Working java code that generates a Bitcoin address (recievables required) on: July 03, 2012, 01:16:17 AM
Hmmh...but the problem is, that you would get a lot _more_ information, if you comment this code properly.

I checked the algorithm to create the addresses

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Technical_background_of_version_1_Bitcoin_addresses

and I guess the problem is simply, that it's complicated... :-)

So no matter how much comments you add, it's still complicated... :-)

Things like
Code:

//This is the base58 function

//We are now sha256(sha256()) hashing now

//RFIMID186 is happening here
Thats all i require.... I don't require "documentation" inside the comments...
