Finally got my backplane....

but it was Bitmine who shipped it all the way from Switzerland!

So looks you can bank on Bitmine to 'semi-support' the product.

Still can't test my system because it looks like my raspi got fried.
+1 to Bitmine.ch for that!
If that appears to be a real RasPi, think you said you have another around right? Pull the SD card from the dead one and use it in a working Pi.

In fact, first use AMT's SD card in your Pi all by itself using 5v power fed through the micro USB - nothing else attached (aside from monitor/keyboard of course) and see what it does.

The AMT raspis are actually stock RasPI's. I already own an identical one I was doing some other work on. I am uploading the default AMT image up in the event its needed. I will post a link when its done. And a small readme on what to use to load it on an SDcard if you are not familar with the process. Its dead simple but still worth documenting.

Would you also be able to verify if the new Bitmine firmware will work?  The Bitmine stuff can be downloaded from here:

http://bitmine.ch/?page_id=5483

It won't. It will require some modification and addition of AMT's scripts. That said upgrading cgminer on the existing distro is certainly possible. I got a pretty good handle on the tools. The bitmine driver also get some upgrades which might benefit.

Also @AMT I think I may have figured out why the cards are dying but you can bring them back to life at your plant.....its the i2cdetect. FYI running that tool with certain parameters based on what I saw can actually cause firmware issues on the cards themselves. It can corrupt it which might explain why so many cards are dying. I dont know how to bring mine back to life (I have 5 dead cards) so this could be an issue. Might want to look into that side of it. The i2c piece can be very dangerous on firmware. There should be some sort of hook or shim in between to keep the low level access from potentially frying the cards. I have one confirmed dead card burned out. This was due to the default settings and it prevents the whole system from coming up. The other 4 cards however COULD work. I have one working miner at this point out of 2. I can provide you more details on what I found if this is something that can be documented and fixed. I think for the benefit of existing customers who are struggling.

I went through every bit of custom code on the distro and read through and saw these things that jumped out at me. What I didn't know i looked up and realized what could be the problem. The i2cdetect parameters can be very dangerous to run and can corrupt the running of the cards. That said if there is a way to "revive" them from a user standpoint I am all open for trying it out before I have to send those cards back.

Okay, not only does the current design not have enough power going into the board (1 PCI-E connector versus 2 for Technobit) but it appears to have firmware problems.
842  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Official AMT Thread on: May 02, 2014, 09:48:21 AM
It's interesting but I see bitmine having alot of the same issues AMT has been having. Altho it seems less so. Refunds issues, delivery issues, all of the same. Like I said....seems like anything/anyone using A1's designs is having a ton of issues. Companies using other chips seem to be ok in terms of delivery. Something worth noting if you are looking for vendors. Just seeing a common thread here with the hardware is all. There is this race for a 28nm process, but at the same time with all the problems, it almost seems like the stable and already mature 55nm process or 40nm chips based solutions are better at this point to go with. They work they are stable....and most of all they are shipping and largely on time.
Realy Grin
My technobit boards A1 are working non stop. And same is happening to other A1 hex8/hex4 technobit clients
So do not speak bulshit please.
You can always asume that everyone has issues but facts are different Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Hey Loshia,

So do ours.

All right,  so from what you have posted, AMT now has a Technobit solution that has two PCI-E power connectors.

Finally some sanity in what you are doing.  AMT should have taken the Technobit route a long time ago.

Anyway,  what do customers who bought the 1.2 THs systems that do not hash expect to receive now?

Do we all expect to receive a 2.4 THs?   Should you communicate this development?

My Personal [and Painful] Level of Commitment to the Future of iXcoin:

As most know, last year I sold my nice ford F150 Truck in order to buy iXcoins.  The car I bought in its place literally cost me less than the 2 Bitcoins I just donated to this new Special Project.

To say I truly believe in iXcoin, its Future,  its Competitive Advantages and what it stands for is a Massive Understatement.

The people constantly demanding I pay for updates don't realize I wasn't lucky enough to own miners or to buy Bitcoin when it was cheap - I had to buy all my iXcoins with hard earned cash.

Being unemployed that was my only viable option [self sacrifice for a personal goal which nobody agreed with] given I'm married with 2 small kids.

As a result I now drive a very humbling, nay, humiliating Piece of Crap Car.  For crying outloud, someone repainted half of this car by hand [with canned paint], it looks horrible.  When I was in high school I drove a way nicer car [which I bought with money I earned working odd jobs since I was 13 years old].

So imagine my position:  Well Over 30, married with kids, 6 years of college [neck deep in student loans] and lots of work experience yet unable to find a decent job and then I run across what I see as a once in a lifetime opportunity.  But given I'm broke and my wife will not let me touch the little savings we have, I pawn my truck for a ridiculous price so I can put it all in iXcoin.

This is why I get upset when guys like Friction pressure me into giving away my hard earned iXcoins for code updates when such things are normally done pro bono or paid by premined bounties (which we have).

I want everyone to see what a challenge it has been for me, to buy and to support iXcoin, all because I truly believe in the future of iXcoin.  Remember I was offering random people 500 - 2,500 iXcoin Blocks in an attempt to bring them in so I wouldn't be alone here.

And because I literally felt guilty thinking that nobody knew what I had found:  The Next Bitcoin.

How many people would do such things when faced with such financial hardships and family and friends telling you that you're stupid and crazy??!!!

If you believe what I believe then don't hold back and do all you can to ensure iXcoin's success - and if you're here just to make some quick money or to waste some time then you should probably find a coin you do believe in.

We all have to make Sacrifices in Life - Find something worth making Sacrifices For!

My POS car!  Haha!

This POS Car cost less than the 2 Bitcoins I just donated to the new Special Project:  iXcoin Reloaded:  TWIN Rising!  BELIEVE!

Just a bit of advise.  You need to diversify a bit.  All your eggs in one crypto-coin bucket is too risky.

Count yourself lucky that iXcoin did not implode as much as most other alt-coins.

If you want,  I am willing to acquire some of your coins at a reasonable price.   That way you don't implode the market.

The good news is a raspi is an off the shelf item you can get on your own for 45 bucks. And the SDCard should still be good. Hopefully that wont be an issue. I can post the default AMT image if needed.

If we can get the daughter board from Bitmine and a back plane, then it may be possible to construct two servers with 2 or 3 boards.

What does it tell you? Any comment?

That the bottom is 5000 satoshis and buying anything over 15000 satoshis can get you into trouble?
848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: May 01, 2014, 11:38:40 PM
personally i don't care if you or anyone else mines my coins at all,

i never asked anyone to buy anything or put anything up

all i did here was make a few small changes to source to be able to compile the wallet

as i stated previously the source code as it was would not compile , at least not for me

i've compiled probably over 100 different coin clients of all types so if I have trouble getting a win qt to build
I think others probably would too

i compiled with the latest openssl and added a checkpoint to my 'unofficial' git and client,

i find it strange the last checkpoint of iX code was at block 4500 ?

https://github.com/photonproject/iXcoin/blob/master/src/checkpoints.cpp#L44

checkpoints are so easy to do , strange no one ever included one in any update

Because nobody updated the code for 3 years until I came along.

What use are checkpoints when you have like 20 peta hashes?  This is not some pump and dump coin that very little hashes backing it.
849  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: May 01, 2014, 09:29:33 PM

And I am talking with ghash.io, the biggest mining pool on earth.

But that takes a lot of time and effort and some skill to get them to back IXC for nothing, so you and others here have to stop being so selfish and cheap with your coins and pay me.

[You see how bad that sounds?]

GHASH.IO is already backing IXC..   what we need is that they upgrade their code to the latest version of IXC.

850  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: May 01, 2014, 09:11:10 PM

Eventually some lively discussion among the members of the board.  Cheesy

Well IXC trading is so boring that we got to generate some other action elsewhere!

"All you are saying is,  IXC has some mystery behind it and it will explode in value,   IXC needs no development or no new innovation,  keep your money in Vircurex because they are old and trustworthy.   WHAT A BUNCH OF B.S.!"

The above is absurd.

I have made technical arguments for why IXC has numerous advantages [over all alts] LONG before you became the paid dev here.

Last year I was the only one here, with Deadsea33.

And you'd have to be blind to not see there's lots of mystery behind IXC.

Just try asking Thomas some simple questions about IXC and see how he avoids them all.

Sorry, but no other coin dev refuses to answer the most simple questions.

If you think I bought IXC just cause it's got hidden meanings and mystery, then you've missed most of my posts.  The hidden meanings and mystery came after I bought most of my coins and it's a bonus as it implies there MAY be something going on.

And if the people here vote to remove IXC from Vircurex then so be it. But not you and not even Thomas [at this point] have the single authority to make such a big decision all by yourself on behalf of all of us.

You didn't ask for a vote, you thought for us and VOTED for us.

Now that is BullShit and that's exactly why we need a board who will act in the best interest of the many and not just in the best interest of one personal view.

Thomas is some guy who decided to pay a bunch of developers to create a new coin way back in early 2011.

He is not some mysterious guy who has some deep insight on IXC.

I calculate that at best he has around 200,000 IXC left.  Not a lot of coin.  That is why he doesn't spare the time to hang around here.  He does not care, nor does he give a damn about IXC's future because he barely has any skin in the game left.

Vircurex is a scam of an exchange.  If you continue to promote it,  then I question your ethics.  Yes, I am recommending that Vircurex de-list IXC for ethical and economic reasons.

The real issue of IXC is getting cooperation from GHash.IO,  you should be spending most of your lip service trying to get them involved with development.
852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: May 01, 2014, 08:25:32 PM

JohnnyBTCseed, What exactly are we gonna IPO?  I don't get that?

I don't see how Vircurex has harmed IXC.  I still use Vircurex and so do a lot of old Bitcoiners.

All this time we've been fighting to get listed on more exchanges and now we're fighting to stay on just one?

That's ridiculous.

All current exchanges are:  At your own Risk.  Nobody has to use vircurex if they don't feel it's safe but the option should be left open given Vircurex is one of the oldest exchanges around.

I vote to keep IXC on there and to vote with your wallet.

Anyone still on Vircurex is just asking to have their coins confiscated.

I don't think we should be recommending to IXC owners that they keep their money in Vircurex.

Vircurex has scammed too many people out of their hard earns BTC and LTC.    I lost BTC because of them.

I recommend we remove IXC from Vircurex as soon as possible.

IXC has low enough liquidity that maintaining a scam exchange like Vircurex only distorts that actual price.  Nobody in his right mind want to deposit BTC with Vircurex,  so the Vircurex listing constantly supresses the price of IXC.  Vlad, if you know anything about supply and demand, then you know the lack of BTC supply at Vircurex forces IXC prices lower.

Vlad you continue to be on the wrong side of the argument.  Vircurex needs to be avoided at all costs.   IXC needs investments in development.   IXC needs to continually innovate.

All you are saying is,  IXC has some mystery behind it and it will explode in value,   IXC needs no development or no new innovation,  keep your money in Vircurex because they are old and trustworthy.   WHAT A BUNCH OF B.S.!
853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: May 01, 2014, 07:00:58 PM
If the situation is that friction wants a bounty to do the updates/ dev and the community doesn't seem to want to cough up some money to pay for that then maybe a compromise.

What if friction did the dev work to get things updated, but added in the changes, such as an 80 byte op_return, to make it friendly to counterparty system.

Then because friction is in a good place to know and modify the ix code, the community supports an ipo for a counterparty style metacoin protocol. Friction (if wants) can then be paid from said ipo. Apossible name ,    x-coin.

In any event by making ixcoin more friendly then bitcoin it should attract SOMEONE to create a "more Fair" counterparty system. Then they do all of the marketing and get the buzzz going.

And soon ixcoin will reach one million dollars( pinky in mouth with evil lauhter)

Let me check if the 80 byte op_return is already in the current codebase.    One of the big issues is getting the pools to accept the newest version.

There will be no need to IPO a counteryparty style metacoin, since the coin consumed by this kind of coin would be IXcoin itself!

Isn't it not the coolest thing?

Funding anyone?

854  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Official AMT Thread on: May 01, 2014, 06:15:24 PM
To put things in perspective about LTC, if you had three 290X GPU's with a total hash power of 2.4Mh/s you would earn about .29c a day combined income for all 3 cards at the current difficulty of 7,000. You would need a seriously heavy machine for it to be even worth it the way LTC difficulty has doubled in only a short time.

That is because people now have Scrypt based ASIC miners.

GPUs are essentially now obsolete in the Litecoin space.

I have several GPUs and have them turned off for more than a month now.  Just not worth it!
855  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: May 01, 2014, 06:11:00 PM

It might not matter anyway as decentralized exchanges should be coming online soon. (Hopefuly)

The decentralized exchanges are nice but they will lack liquidity.  Furthermore, the execution speed will not be one that a trade would desire.

I vote that IXC focus on getting on cryptoczar.

I vote for immediate acceptance of iXc on Cryptoczar. If it is accepted on it,
you can ask this community to stop trading on Vircurex and withdraw ixc from it.
At that point Vircurex, and all the members of this community, will be willing to see iXc removed from Vircurex.

Folks, please send requests to CryptoCzar to have IXC included.    Let us try to maintain at most 3 major exchanges for IXC.   Having more will dilute the liquidity.

Vircurex should be dumped due to what they have caused in harm to the crypto community.

Why not give $100 in BTC to every member of bitcointalk instead ?

'coz bitcoin members are mostly low-lifes and MIT students are the elite of society.

858  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Official AMT Thread on: May 01, 2014, 04:40:32 PM
Here is how to get your ROI if you can only afford a small miner right now.

1) buy whatever hardware ware you can afford, even its a small miner.
2) save the bitcoins you mine, and hope the price goes up in 1-10 years.

I know it may sound stupid, but that's all I got for you as far as ROI goes.

The shining light in this advice is that with all the new investment money coming into bitcoin development and products around bitcoin, 2. is a very likely scenario. 100s of millions of dollars are being poured into bitcoin related products. Mining, ATMs, payment systems, POS systems (point of sale not piece of shit), exchanges. So there is alot of money floating. Plus its gotten a bit more legitimacy being on bloombergs tickers as well. So its a likely scenario its going to pick up in price again despite the current plateau its hit.

There is probably some equilibrium point in the very near future where you can't create new hardware that is orders of magnitued faster than anyone else.  We are near that point.   Spondoolies is showing that they can take 40nm based hardware and run it competively compared to 28nm hardware.   Let extrapolate that Spondoolies takes their hardware down to 20nm, how much faster will these be?

The scenario though will mirror the time when Litecoin was at $2-3,   that is, you could not get hardware better than AMD Radeon GPUs.

Looking from this perspective, it may be wise in the next 2-3 months to invest in state of the art hardware with the expectation of selling the hardware when BTC prices jump.   Of course, a better investment would be to stick to BTC.  When LTC jumped from $2 to $50 the prices of hardware doubled.   So you trade off a 2000% gain for one with a 100% gain.  Mining is just a horrible business.
859  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Official AMT Thread on: May 01, 2014, 03:48:52 PM
any recommendation for newbie like me, i mean totally newbie  Huh
buy something in hand pay a premium for it like but in hand means ready to go. setup and working

Any SHA256 miner,  will not get you ROI.

Your best bet right now is to go with an ASIC Litecoin miner.
agreed them scrypt aisics are mental. saw a guy in a pool pulling 4btc a day from a lowly scrypt clone. was all wtf!!!!! how can he get so much.

Now is this just mining bitcoin? Or ANY sha256?

Scrypt

My question was about ROI on sha256.....does this apply to ALL sha256 coins or just referring to bitcoin. Yes I know with scrypt its different. But My question is specific to sha256....scrypt is not an answer.

As I said ... you will not get ROI on any  SHA256 miner.
860  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Official AMT Thread on: May 01, 2014, 03:46:49 PM

Exactly the problem is not with the A1 chip its with the boards designed to run it.

Innosilicon had an agreement with bitmine that bitmine would have exclusive rights for 6 months, either outside of China or globally I don't know the ins and outs, but bitmine dropped the ball on getting their product to market in time because they had the worst designed circuitboards and poorly chosen components and basically didn't know what the hell they were doing. I think AMT also suffered because of this as they were using bitmine designs manufactured in the US.

As the deadline drew close for the exclusivity period to end the Chinese companies like Dragon started producing their own boards, but much better boards because they know what the hell they are doing of course, from what I understand they even helped bitmine by providing them with design and component reccomendations to fix the bitmine board problems. But it was too late. The deadline expired and before bitmine or AMT could even start to look at getting stuff out the door the Chinese started production. Game over.

In the mean time Technobit in Europe managed to produce circuitboards, albeit with less A1 chips on them, that worked in smaller application (up to 240MH) without issue.

Thats my take on whats happened from what I have seen and heard from various sources.

Thanks for the inside information.

The Dragon system boards appear to be available on Alibaba.

We just need to get these boards and have the A1 chips on them.

This option or have technobit do it for you.
