we are still waiting for the launch

842  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 05, 2015, 01:43:11 PM
Selling 1 full Nemstake private keys, PM with offers

Be careful, people, even if you buy a private key the original owner still knows that private key too!

Suggest something else then

Once redeemed there is no trustless way to sell that stake again. Not before launch anyway.
843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 05, 2015, 07:43:51 AM
is there a release date for the nem launch announced yet?

no, hopefully it shouldnt be long before a date is announced.

You've been saying this for literally over 6 months now.

And he's by definition closer to the truth now then when he said it first.

As things stand now I hope we'll have an update on the matter next week or so.

Also, noone has been saying THAT for 6 months.
844  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 04, 2015, 10:24:13 AM
The main difference is that Nxt has launched and been stable for over a year with a number of features that NEM doesn't have.  NEM hasn't launched, so you can't really compare them.

Stable???

Not exactly. I've personally helped discover and have been a part of an "oh shit" moment at NXT where all the devs had to do an emergency debug and roll out a new emergency release.  One node was processing ALL the blocks. If you know about crypto, you know that isn't something you want.

At that time NXTers just stayed quiet and didn't advertising they were forking.  Within a day it was fixed and everybody acted like it didn't happen.

Especially early on, the network had a lot of problems. I'm not sure how many of their updates have been emergency patches like that, so nobody can say it's been stable for a year. But I can say that it is pretty stable now. Originally the code was a mess, but Jean Luc cleaned it up really well. He is an amazing programmer and has turned NXT into a wonderful program.

https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/is-the-chain-healthy/

That thread is going to be a year old soon enough Smiley

Is there more detail available on SPAM management feature of NEM? I'll put that to my to read list. Wink

I'm not sure if the algo is explained anywhere but I can tell you how it works from the users side.  I've tried to send over 20,000 transactions in the last day, so I have a good idea.  Most of those transactions will go through, but NEM has a 120 transaction per block limit.  As long as there is room in the blocks, my transactions will pass.  But once those blocks get to 120, all of a sudden my transactions start getting declined.  This is not a network wide problem.  My other computers running NEM using different accounts can still send just fine and for their normal small fees.  Now if my spamming bot is getting declined, it doesn't mean that it is totally rejected forever.  I can still push through transactions, but I will have to pay much higher fees.  So normally, a fee might only cost me 2 XEM, but when I am spamming on already full blocks that can go up to 30 XEM, to 40 XEM, even 80 XEM fees to push my transactions through.  I'm guessing it could go higher, but I am not sure.  Also, as I just mentioned it is variable, I guess depending on how much of a load my spam bot is putting on the network.  Again, all the mean while my other computer can still send transactions for 2 XEM fee, but the spam bot now has to pay much more.

The only other spam protection that I know of in crypto is with Ripple, and Ripple punishes the whole network when there is spam.  So if I spam Ripple, the fees will go up not just for me, but for all the other people that didn't have anything to do with the spam.

It would be nice to know how the devs did it, but I can only speak from my experience in testing the system, not the actual code behind it.  Also, it has been very well tested.  For instance the last NEM testnet actually had way more transactions on it than the real NXT blockchain.  That makes sense because right now we are sending test NEM so its easy.  When it launches, of course I won't be sending 20,000 transactions a day (bitcoin only does 100,000). hahaha. But what we will know is that the NEM network will have been battle tested and is true.

The 120 tx limit is per block but the network afaik won't start rejecting tx at that point. There is a cache that is considerably greater than that and only when that is filled as well it will start rejecting tx.
If the network started to reject tx as soon as 120 are circulating it woud legitimately suck. Hard. Smiley

just so everyone knows, even though you have to log in(to try and prevent vote spamming) the form saves each vote annon.. so user names are not saved.

Logos up for voting:

Good idea, lets reopen the logo debate once again, so we have another focus than launching...
btw, when is NEM gonna launch? When can I finally sell of my stake?

Oh Wow!  Everyone please vote

is this the part where we point out what we see in those ink stains O_o ?
Srsly what are some of those supposed to be ? (I know that they are supposed to be phoenix and angels and what not I just find it utterly absurd)
847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 03, 2015, 08:18:52 AM
Please read the newsletters, its all in there:
http://nem.io/archives.html

OK so basically you guys have no clue when your release date is, over 1 ENTIRE YEAR after coming up with the concept??? That's what I get from the newsletter.

I'd give NEM about a 25% chance of being just a long con scam.

ALL OTHER platforms release their working client WITH BUGS IN THE SYSTEM. And you know what? THEY IRON THEM OUT, BECAUSE _REAL_ PEOPLE are doing _REAL_ TESTING on a _REAL_ product.

All that NEM is right now is an elaborate ponzi scheme. Ponzi until proven otherwise -- thats one of the first rules of crypto.

So far you guys have been unable prove otherwise.

I think it's clear that it's unlikely to be a scam at this point since they have actually released a functioning beta version of the wallet. I can understand where you're coming from though since launches this long are atypical in the altcoin world. NXT was launched a couple months after it was announced and lacked some of the features it was meant to have (e.g. asset exchange, transparent forging, monetary system) because much of the development happened in the following year after the coin was launched.

What makes NEM different or special over NXT?
I see NXT has proven to be continuous development progress throughout last year. They are far far better than other CryptoCurrency Developments. Much advanced.

It doesn't mean I'm saying NEM is nothing or offending NEM. I want know how big and faster NEM is in compare to NXT.

If I honestly say right now I have more confidence in NXT than any other CryptoCurrency. I'm new to NEM. Getting to know it bit by bit. Trying to understand where exactly NEM fits and shines.

It's hard to answer these questions because I don't wanna tarnish NXT (prob couldn't anyway) or make it seems like I'm trolling NXT.
One thing that is a clear and undeniable difference is the algorithm that determines the next block creator. NXT uses POS whereas NEM uses POI which stands for Proof of Importance and is an improved, adaptation of POS that adds additional factors into the mix besides mere balance.
There is no denying that NXT has a time advantage. It's been around longer and has more features than NEM right now. How many of those features are actually usefull besides the AE I'll leave to everyone to decide for themselves.
I'm not sure NXT has ever been load testet on the testnet like NEM has been during the BETA (and still is actually. averagejoe is going nuts again Smiley). The load that right now is being put on the NEM testnet is multitudes higher than what will be going on the live net during the first months or even year and where the network did show signs of weakness during ealier stages of the BETA it's now handling that load like a boss Smiley. NXT also has very few activity i.e. most blocks don't contain any tx so if no load test has been conducted it's hard to say if the network could handle higher loads.
From just looking at the blocktimes it seems, to me, as semi-layman that NEMs blocktimes are overall more consistent and closer to the targeted 60 sec avg. but it's not like I have done some empirical research on that so I don't wanna state that outright.

Hope that helps and hope it's not being percieved as attack on NXT.

Just a note to people that might be on Macs.  I upgraded fro 0.5.13 to 0.5.16 today and after I did so, I went to click the NEM icon and it started 0.5.13 again. It seems that both were on my computer.  I then had to go into my Finder -> Applications -> NEM 0.5.13 -> Uninstall.  After that 0.5.16 started after clicking on the NEM icon.

I would almost bet that this isn't limited to Mac but I can't be sure.
Wondering if the installbuilder could facilitate some functionality to remove older version (with care so wallet doesn't get removed)
849  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 02, 2015, 08:35:07 AM
...Oh, and just out of curiosity but does anyone know if the current NEM wallet can be used once the real NEM launches or will we be given another wallet to download?

There will be a new release of the client.
850  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 02, 2015, 08:12:14 AM
how to receive real NEMCOIN?

I see you on the stakeholder list so you've successfully redeemed your stake.
All you need todo is wait for launch and at launch import the private-key you stored to create a wallet which will have all your XEM.
851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 01, 2015, 01:56:11 PM
How about you show some of the logo timelines for companies that only include the changes over one year ? Even better would be pre-release.

What I'm saying is you can't even remotely compare it. If the "times" change and those changes make a logo change necessary it's not a bad thing but changing it because...well just because is imho a waste.
852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 01, 2015, 12:59:47 PM
I dont think changing the logo is a good idea, the traditional NEM logo is known and established, and can be recognised by anyone that has had even brief exposure to NEM and especially no to the eagles! Its too much fascist/USSA... stick to the pheonix if you really need to change it!

eagle, phoenix, swan...all worse than what we have right now imho.
If we're gonna vote i hope the community has the sense to not vote for a change of logo.
853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feedback needed for "stable coin" idea, especially from security experts on: March 01, 2015, 08:38:24 AM
I've only skimmed it but it sounds like just another disitrbuted consensus model. Ripple calls them validators, orthers call them Masternodes, you call them time helpers.
854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NODE Revolution: "Money is a means of payment, not speculation" (с) on: February 28, 2015, 08:08:29 AM
So then what are the advantages of using NODEPAY over what we have now?

NodePay this integration for websites, you can now take Node. When will the euro and the dollar, you can also take

When you send or receive FIAT you have to apply AML/KYC policy, as major exchanges do, NODE payment processor must apply too.
Correct me if i am wrong

depends on what jurisdiction you fall under.

I'm assuming NodePay is supposed to work worldwise so they'll have the same regulations as other exchanges and services.

Yes but he's right. Ripple is already doing that. Ripple is currency agnostic. As soon as anyone introcudes any currency into the system - provided there are market makers - you can trade any currency for any other currency.
Granted, there is no real nice website integration for services but it might have been a good idea to build NodePay on top of a system like Ripple. That way you would have been way more versatile.

Still interested to see how NodePay will play out.

@update

So I decided to share with You our future plans for the Node on the Integration of the Euro and the Dollar
We and our lawyers have long thought about the technical and legal integration of the dollar and the Euro, our plans were in the beginning has changed.

We looked at a lot of payment systems with which we can interact. In the end, it was decided to create a processing center which will take responsibility for processing payments, SWIFT, SEPA and VISA. This center will be connected to the client Node. Each new transaction in EUR and USD (incoming and outgoing payment) will be duplicated records in the blockchain from the processing center, but the main is the processing center. From the client Node will be possible to make direct payments SWIFT, SEPA and VISA. To use these services you will need from your side registration and passport data in the system NdoeBank. Each registered user will receive their own account. More detailed technical and legal information will be published later. In terms of the technical implementation of the project may take from 9 to 12 months.

The processing center is a system which works directly with one of the banks offering their services on the implementation of money transfers

Is there a bank you are cooperating with or will you set-up a company that handles this ?
Any worries about laws against money laundering ?

They haven been able to for months now.
858  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: February 26, 2015, 12:15:56 PM
@ devs: Is that possible that you show US a list with all redeemed stakes and how much from wich account was redeemed? It will be very nice. ty

You can find a link to that list in my signature. It doesn't show how many stakes though.
