And there is now:

Rank User Estimated Speed
1   67117   1,324.19 GH/s

My estimate puts that at about 20 Avalons.

Or, something else.
Are there confirmations of Avalon customers receiving their units?
842  Economy / Economics / Re: How economy grow with a deflationary currency? on: February 13, 2013, 04:00:55 PM
All the confusion in this thread... Things are not "worth less" tomorrow because there is inflation, nor they cost more in real terms. Things are not "worth more" tomorrow when there is monetary deflation, nor they cost less in real terms. The metric is changing, is all.

Sure, when I lived through a hyperinflation I wanted to convert inflating currency into another currency or goods/services as soon as I received it but that did not make me spend more in real terms. It didn't make the economy grow - on he contrary, everybody wasting resources on this conversion game resulted in less overall productivity.

By the same token, even if I tend to save/hoard bitcoins because of expected increase in value, the economy can still grow. A company may be worth a 100 bitcoins today, and after growing, it may be worth 90 bitcoins next year. It has still grown, becausr these 90 coins can buy more stuff.

Have you ever heard of inflation-corrected historical charts? Why can't you apply the same concept and embrace deflation-corrected data?

should have had the auction extended by 24 hours for each bid Tongue
It was too late when I realized that...

Less than an hour left to go, in the midst of uncertainty about the mistery miner on btcguild Smiley

846  Economy / Auctions / Re: 258 ASICMINER shares up for grabs! on: February 12, 2013, 04:03:39 PM
Friedcat told me in a pm that he is willing to do the transfer before the platform is open... provided you do it not too often because it is a hassle for him

Especially now that he is busy doing more exciting stuff Wink

Good to know, thanks!  After this auction is ended I will ask him to perform the transfer before the launch if possible.
847  Economy / Auctions / Re: 258 ASICMINER shares up for grabs! on: February 12, 2013, 02:32:36 PM
Eight hours and thirty minutes left until the end of auction at 23h UTC. I provided the payment address to make things more verifiable in the public eye. If highest bidder prefers a more private transaction, I can provide another address via email.

As for transfering the shares, I am not aware of a way to do it before ASICMINER is listed, but if you do, by all means let me know.

Cheers!
848  Economy / Economics / Re: How economy grow with a deflationary currency? on: February 11, 2013, 11:02:14 PM
With a deflationary currency, people have the tendency to hoard, it is harder for businesses to make money in this kind of deflationary environment.

Businesses try to make value, not money (except maybe banks Cheesy). Just because the number of coins used to represent value is going up or down does not mean that created value is changing relative to other items in the market. Bitcoin price is irrelevant, it's just that old ways of thinking are hard to get rid of.
849  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: MtGox Mobile Android Client Error "Method is disabled" on: February 11, 2013, 10:17:33 PM
I am using the MtGox Android client because it is the only client I know of that can read private keys from the awesome paper wallets from https://www.bitaddress.org/

A while ago everything worked fine but lately I wanted to show someone how easy it was to send some coins to the paper wallet and it just came up with this error message:

Quote
Method is disabled: Old bitcoin withdraw method for withdrawing bitcoins is deprecated Please use https://mtgox.com/api/blablabla instead.

Any ideas?
I have redeemed an old paper wallet via MtGox android app on February 4 without any problems.  Can you log on to your account and confirm your api key has proper security settings to allow withdrawal?
850  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BitcoinSpinner on: February 11, 2013, 09:59:42 PM
Jan, do you make available some compounded statistics?
It would be nice to see the total number of wallets over time, or number of transactions per day.
851  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: February 11, 2013, 09:36:00 PM
Whats the total count of ASIC's in customer hands?? 3 or 4?
Two units are confirmed in this thread (jgarzik and the BF), and network hashrate indicates no jncrease beyond the usual variance.
852  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Moral Obligations of Bitcoin on: February 11, 2013, 02:21:07 PM
That would be like asking a walmart clerk handing you change where they got that cash.

I think it would more if a sketchy guy on the street walked up to you and saying "I'll give you this $100 bill for a $50 and a $20".  (Would you ask him where he got it, assuming that you were already able to determine the bill was real?)
You've got it all mixed up... Really sketchy guys you should be worried about wear suits and offer you lines of credit, bright future, and fight against "terrorists" from your OP. Do you ask them about the origin of their money? You should. You should gather facts before attempting to come up with  the "moral obligations" you brought up in OP.

These fucking bastards stole my coins and disrespected me in email.

Their CEO has the nerve to delay or transaction 24hrs per email and compounds the damage by wasting entire days just reconfirming the information Ive provided... information I've assured them has been confirmed.

He fed me a bullshit excuse about committing fraud by making two transaction for 500USD three days apart.

TAKE A FUCKING LOOK AROUND, THESE THREADS ARE EVERYWHERE.

I was funding a fucking humanitarian project. Your sin of greed now reaches into the territory of malice.
Would you provide any details of the dispute? You vented out in the public, but have not provided any information.
854  Economy / Economics / Re: How could wages in Bitcoin work? on: February 10, 2013, 08:22:28 PM
If a company makes btc profits only, workers can be entitled to a percent share of profits based on their position, hours worked, etc. Call it a co-op, an employee-owned company, or whatever you like. It would take some active involvement of everyone to manage things and renegotiate all pieces of cake when new hires are made or people quit, but there are historical examples where this worked (see worker self-management).
Bitcoin would further enhance things by providing necessary transparency and audit trail.

Example: majority of people involved decides to hire a new engineer. Everyone's share is reduced to accomodate for the new hire's sallary of 1.23% of the net profit. The net profit is expected to increase due to increased productivity, so everyone's happy.

855  Economy / Auctions / Re: 258 ASICMINER shares up for grabs! on: February 10, 2013, 05:53:09 PM
If you accept BTC worth in paypal credit. I would bid more Smiley
Glad to see you'd offer more than the current bid. This a bitcoin auction. You are welcome to purchase bitcoins anywhere using any method you like, and use these coins in here. Alternatively, if you still prefer PayPal, you can try purchasing ASICMINER shares on ebay using your PayPal. I hope one of these options works out.
856  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin's first major deflation event, and its consequences on: February 10, 2013, 08:28:29 AM
I don't believe anyone will horde to the point they'll perish.  Eventually, you'll come up with a nice sum of coin and will want to put it to use; after all, why have wealth if it goes unused?

+1000.

Howard Hughes type scrooges are rare in this world because most people just want to have nice things. Hoarding does not go on forever because people know they'll get old and die.
Unless they believe the singularity is coming. I wonder what Kurzweil's thoughts on Bitcoin are.
857  Economy / Economics / Re: I never really understand how loan driven economy works on: February 10, 2013, 08:13:57 AM
There is a way to avoid this from happening: Continuously issue new loan to A and B, for them to pay back the old loan + interest. And for each new loan, same rule applies, they need future loan money to payback the interest, and if they want to have some savings, even more future loans are needed

But any business have a market size limit, after reaching certain maturity, there are less and less growth, so eventually this model will be broke for any industry
It is also worth noting that the existing system, described above, inevitably leads to someone getting screwed just because. Even if everyone did a perfectly identical job in going about their business, someone will have to default, because at any point of time there is simply not enough fiat to provide for the debt+interest. Healthy competition is an illusion.
Also note, this has got nothing to do with the level of presence of government. The problem is more fundamental.
858  Economy / Economics / Re: "Monetary Base (M0)" term to replace "Market Capitalization" on: February 10, 2013, 08:03:22 AM
At least everybody seems to agree that "market capitalization" is not an appropriate term.

I prefer a specific reference to the base or "M0" because there may very well be some fractional reserve approaches built on top of Bitcoin in the future, regardless of how we feel about it.  So, the "monetary base equivalent in USD" or "M0 in USD" seems most appropriate and most specific.

Until they explode in a fireball because of something sparking and setting off the gas that is keeping them there, it's a really fucking stupid idea, even for America.
Helium.

And, due to same life-changing events, I was posting in a hurry, and my calendar was a week off.
So, correct dates are shown in bold below - since no bids have been placed, no harm done.
Due to life-changing events, I am liquidating some of the assets.

I am selling 258 ASICMINER shares, including any dividends paid before the formal transfer of share ownership.

All-or-nothing (258), no partial bids.

Minimum price: 0.3 BTC per share.

Payment address: 147EDAVYknZRTFpY22B8J93EMkbgoy22iy
