841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Study shows majority of U.S. consumers ‘unlikely’ to purchase and use bitcoin on: September 14, 2014, 05:50:16 PM
Article seems bullish, better than I would have expected.   At this point in time I thought a poll would result in 5% at best willing to make an effort at Crypto but 18% exceeds my expectations.

Did you know a poll in the late 90's found most would not trust online banking using that Interweb fad thingy?  Now most bank tellers have lost their jobs in favor of electronics and the web.

Someone noted that the LocalBitcoins BTC:USD volume has been increasing:

My short term outlook as a person that has a local advertisement to buy BTC at Bitstamp.  These are the OTC trenches outside of the manipulated buy & sell wall exchanges.

Sellers come out in droves when BTC is above 500.  I don't have enough money to keep up with all the sell offers over 500 and I can discount Bitstamp to bring out the truly desperate sellers.

At this current price in the 470-480 there is a huge lack of sellers, nada, for the last few weeks I haven't bought OTC.  My conclusion is that there are a lot of holders stuck above 500 that are willing to break even or sell at a slight loss.   Any rise above 500 is being met with strong sell resistance in the world of OTC.

844  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Conned out of BTC a Civil Suite or Criminal Offense? on: September 13, 2014, 06:42:10 PM
Follow-up:  Check was stolen, therefore, no recourse.
You still would have recourse, although the chances of finding the person are greatly reduced. If the check was stolen then criminal charges would certainly be in order. You could still press civil charges however often times a criminal conviction means that restitution is given to the victim, the risk is however that the burden of proof is higher for a criminal conviction then is needed to win a civil case

My pal was full throttle on going after his money but after he found out the check was stolen, then it seems the effort to pursue would have exceeded the of the value.

Thanks for the input, you seem to know your stuff.  Grin

Bank cards protect the buyer, seller is still at risk of charge backs.

Sounds like you were moving over $10k worth BTC.  They need to ask those questions to comply with FinCIN regulations.

848  Economy / Speculation / Re: Have you invested more than you can afford to lose in Bitcoin? on: September 12, 2014, 01:53:26 PM
Yes, I'm very heavily vested in Bitcoin.  Fortunately, I'm not (yet) at a loss.  Grin

I keep throwing each paycheck into BTC.  Under $500, me thinks is a steal.
849  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Conned out of BTC a Civil Suite or Criminal Offense? on: September 11, 2014, 07:09:54 PM
Yep, United States.  No ID verification just cashed it and held tightly on his BTC.  Friend thought it went through next morning so he sent the BTC.

Within an hour, the check bounced.  Shocked

Please don't refer me to a real laywer, I'm just looking for those that portray one the on the Interwebs.   Grin

My friend accepted a check for BTC.  Yea, newbie move.  Anyhow, as you guessed it... check made "boing" sound upon deposit.  Shocked

So, just curious if he were to pursue this to get back his magic Internet money, would it be a civil suite or a criminal offense?

Criminal charges wont get you a cent.

Civil lawsuit is doable.

Your friend is retarded i would not put any effort on this since it was so easily avoidable.

He's been on the phone all morning with his bank.

I agree, this is more like tuition toward higher learning.  Just bite the cost.

The infraction was $2,300 & crosses state lines making it more of a headache.

The bank charged him $35 for the bounced check, that's like kicking a man in the nuts while he's knocked out.  Undecided

I meaning if i loose my iphone, i can restore from backup with all data?

Yes, make a screen shots of the QRC codes and back up the images offline every time you setup 2FA.

That way, it's easy to add to a new devices when you replace or lose the previous one.

What if you were to be frozen in a chamber for 20 years, would you rather be frozen clutching your life savings in Precious Metals/Stones or Bitcoin.

Apple Pay pretty cool, much safer than carrying your credit card around considering data is not stored on the phone itself.

Is crypto done??  Grin
