8481  Other / Meta / Re: spam attack! what is it acheiving? on: February 27, 2019, 07:56:29 AM
Account farmers, could be for sale in the future or could be for merit farming (not that those replies are honestly worth merits, though.) Just report the users that seem to be on a spamming spree for them to get nuked. Other than that there really isn't anything you could do in the mean time as the mods are the only ones who have control over such things.

For the sake of spam, of course. It would be neat for the IPs of these accounts to be blacklisted in order for them to pay in creating accounts, but then again they could as easily be using VPNs.
8482  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] Add automatic thread lock timer to kill the megathread plague on: February 27, 2019, 06:04:56 AM
An automatic lock to prevent accidental "necroing" of threads, otoh, would be something I would support.
I.e. lock threads after e.g. 30 days without a new post.

This turns out to be the best solution there is, really. I've seen some necroposts from 2013 that were recently brought up by newbies and lower rank members with questions and replies rehashed and repeated obnoxiously. If users themselves can't lock the thread after receiving ample amount of replies that will satisfy their questions, or if the topic itself is asking for a discussion but was left stale for the past 30 or so days, locking it automatically will be the best solution to stop megathreads. Besides, we don't expect mods of different boards to lock it one by one, and people would shout "abuse of power/authority" again if this happens.

8483  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Using a BTC Mixing Service and Power Went Out on: February 27, 2019, 04:57:33 AM
Try contacting the website's support and hopefully they could help you. Just hope that they still have access to the recovery seed they gave you.

I think mixing services don't necessarily keep seeds for their users as one way of protecting them, though they might have something else to help OP with the issue should he be able to prove that he indeed was the one doing the mixing with the occurrence of such an unfortunate event. Best thing to do is contact support immediately and do not let this issue go on for long without them being notified as this might lead into further delays of OP's funds.

Best of luck!
8484  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Phishing on: February 27, 2019, 03:30:22 AM
Always check the domain and just make sure you are getting it from the correct repository (electrum.org). The phishing incident has been going on for a couple while now and the Electrum team had already done things to negate the said issue so you'll be golden for a reinstall. However, if you are still afraid of any unwanted malware that the phishing software has left on your machine, a fresh install would be nice, though not really necessary as most antivirus software will see if something's wrong with your machine. Just run a deep scan of your PC if you're really that paranoid and you'll be fine.
8485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN Genesis Keys on: February 27, 2019, 02:38:59 AM
If Satoshi really wanted bitcoin to flourish and wanted to help people from separating themselves from the banks, he would not do such foolish things to intentionally crash the market and destroy bitcoin as a whole. A signed message from one of his known addresses is already an enough evidence that Satoshi is still around and is still with us, though I don't think he would do such thing as it will only produce massive hype and unwanted attention for bitcoin as he already did what he needed to do anyways. Signing a message is just another trivial thing to do at this point in time.
8486  Economy / Economics / Re: Bull VS Bear Markets, How Do You Tell The Difference!? on: February 26, 2019, 02:47:44 PM
Bull markets are generally characterized by greens in charts and overall market sentiment that lean towards the positive side of things. Even news outlets are reporting good things about the market so it's easy to spot on. However on the bearish side of things, normally this is generalized by poor volume, price crashes and overall gloomy atmosphere in the market. Sometimes, it's hard to spot bear markets given that there is this phase that we call "denial" as everyone is still leaning towards a leap back to normalized prices however the trend seems to be dictating a downfall on prices and whatnot.
8487  Economy / Economics / Re: Emaar Properties says no to accepting cryptocurrencies as payment on: February 26, 2019, 01:47:56 PM
To be fair, it's not only Emaar Properties who don't want to do anything with bitcoins just yet. It's only those small-time real estate agents and individual, private owners of houses that would be willing to sell their houses and properties for bitcoin, not giant realtors and developers such as Emaar Properties. For now, they are concerned for their financial and fiat security rather than accepting a highly speculative and experimental currency that doesn't seem to hold its value steadily even for a few months. Anyway, its really best to read sources on news before spreading it out as it might give out false information that no one really wanted in the first place.
8488  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Whales have accumulated thousands of coins in last 2 months on: February 26, 2019, 12:52:10 PM
This should have been the normal scenario after 2017 highs and the crash of 2018. Players would be looking into increasing their assets in a considerable amount so as to make the most out of the bear market. At this point in time, many would have already reached the thousand-BTC mark and are now making moves in the market signifying that they are still around and bitcoin is not a dead asset. Whales do need a lot of fiat and bitcoin at hand in order to be a force to be reckoned with, and that's what they're doing right now, filling their pockets while everyone is doubting bitcoin.
8489  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Central bank power on bitcoin? on: February 26, 2019, 12:26:13 PM
Well, based on the context of what you're saying, even if bitcoin was the main currency back in 2008, if the same methods of controlling the economy was done, then there's no way a different scenario would be produced, given that they're essentially just using a different medium but the approach was still rather rash and irrational just to get profits in the end. Also, crashes on the economy are bound to happen no matter the currency, so I guess the 2008 financial crisis was inevitable really, only fueled up by different scenarios in the economy, particularly the subprime mortgage market in the US that eerily brought down the whole international banking industry with them.
8490  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who's filling up the mempool at the moment? on: February 26, 2019, 11:42:52 AM
Doesn't look like a spam attack to me. Maybe Venezuelans moving their hard earned money out one bolivar at a time before it becomes the next Zimbabvian dollar

Could be, given that bitcoin is slowly becoming overhyped in the said country, although that alone isn't an enough reason to justify what has happened on the mempool very recently.

as for the fees of these transactions being low, the reason is because people know nowadays their low fee txs (like 1 s/b) will go through fast enough. for example during spike of today it would have taken a 1 s/b tx 12 hours to confirm in worst case scenario

I'm one of those people who sends 1 s/b transactions even though my client tells me that at best, it will take 30 or so blocks before it confirms (which clearly is, most of the time, wrong). Idk, it just became a habit knowing that I'm really not expecting things to be confirmed in an instant and for me, every satoshi counts Smiley
8491  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto ATM robed. on: February 26, 2019, 11:13:19 AM
After reading this thread I have two questions in my mind:
1. What if the robber hacks and takes off all fund from ATM?

Then it will be shouldered by the operator of the ATM. No funds will be lost to the ATM users at all, though their data might somehow be at risk of being compromised though I doubt that the said scenario would be possible given the preventive measures they are taking when their machines are compromised by hackers or robbers.

2. Why ATM's when they are so risky?

ATMs per se aren't risky. Their locations on an area, together with their surrounding area is what makes it risky to use them. Have you ever learned about ATMs inside malls or heavily-guarded areas being robbed or hacked? If so, those are extremely isolated cases, compared to ATMs that are located in the middle of nowhere with little to no police visibility and low foot traffic.
8492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin Worth? on: February 25, 2019, 09:56:53 PM
Can you provide a basis where you get her/his asset?
Because i personally believe that we dont have any access to that information.

Their is no clear information that particular any address belongs to Satoshi and also it is quite possible that their could be hundreds of address existing of the Satoshi and various other coins could be hold by him and nobody would ever know about i.t

The best aggregate one can get is to check the addresses that received bitcoins and remain unspent on the first year of the coin's existence, knowing that there are only a few people who are mining back then. One in particular being Hal Finney who has also been interacting with satoshi on this very forum. It would also be interesting to know how much would his total assets would be including all forks that have happened over the past 10 years, and also including cryptocurrencies that are somewhat linked to bitcoins such as CLAMS and the likes.
8493  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Plunge to $3,700 Expected, Say Traders on: February 25, 2019, 10:24:22 AM
I wouldn't say that I expected the climb back down to exactly $3700 ranges, though I know that the rise wouldn't really hold for long considering that the foundations for the rise were bleak. We're not yet in the time wherein a trend reversal is going to happen as it's still too early for such, or the conditions aren't that suitable yet for yet another tremendous rise in price. A lot of FOMO is still needed, and we don't see that here on this recent rise.
8494  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Latin America’s Biggest Bank To Release Security Token on: February 24, 2019, 07:58:32 PM
And they are just riding the hype that cryptocurrencies and ICOs made to make their stale systems look fresh and make the public invest on them. Basically they are just publicly offering one of their investment plans and just took the word ICO with them just to make their scheme appealing to the public and that many would buy in to the said plan. Also, they like to expand globally and offer the said investment plan to other people on different countries, and going ICO is what enables them to do this sans the legal hoops and challenges they might face along the way.
8495  Economy / Speculation / Re: Samsung Galaxy S10 Crypto Offering A bullish sign? on: February 24, 2019, 07:11:28 PM
I don't see this as that bullish however I can say that this is one step towards getting the word out over regular consumers that don't know much about bitcoin yet. We all know that the smartphone industry is one of the fastest-growing and exposed scene in the world's economy right now, and with the recent move Samsung made, integrating a crypto wallet within their newly-released flagship S10, I can see a huge potential, albeit not that strong of an influence for today's market sentiments. The move is somewhat preparing the consumers for what might come in the future, but other than that, nada.
8496  Economy / Speculation / Re: The slow 5 days of green ended in less than 5 hrs. on: February 24, 2019, 06:38:23 PM
Tbh I never expected the greens to last longer than it should have, and thought that it's just another one of those bull traps/random volatility action that happens from time to time. I sold some coins earlier at its peak, $4140 and I'm not surprised to see where it's at right now. I don't see anything special about the rise recently nor anything that suggests that this is the reversal that we've all been waiting for, so I didn't bank heavily on that possibility and just went on with my day-to-day life.

Well perhaps it will still try to climb higher than $4k, knowing that that resistance can be broken with the right momentum, who knows.
8497  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is producing bitcoin now, please? on: February 24, 2019, 11:49:04 AM
Eh, you're most likely referring to highly unreliable cloud mining services that would net you nothing in the long run. I suggest you not to do it and just place your money elsewhere as you have no hopes of making it big or even a small profit in cloud mining services. As for your question though, there aren't any cloud mining services I know that are really legitimate, as some are just serious money grabs that won't even make an effort in scamming. Since the hack that happened on hashnest, I seriously wouldn't entrust my funds to them ever again.
8498  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1000 Bitcoin: The World's Most Expensive Prius on: February 24, 2019, 11:25:27 AM
Well if the dude who bought the Prius is still proudly using the car, I can say that it has earned its merit for being 'that' expensive. Besides, no one really knew what the price of bitcoin will be in the next 4 years. Also, if the dude's happy with his purchase then so be it. Everyone here telling the same thing to wait, but at that given moment, it was the best deal he could get so props to the man actually buying something with bitcoin.

I've always wanted to buy something good for my bitcoins, but it seems that I'm too clingy to the investment side of things that the most expensive thing I ever thought were Jalapeno sauces from Cali. :/
8499  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible buy BTC at lower price than exhange? on: February 22, 2019, 07:20:19 PM
This is OTC trading, and you need to manually find someone who would be willing to sell you coins at below market price (which rarely happens anyway considering that most would want profits). Most of these exclusive deals are done in bulk trades, so it's almost impossible to see someone willing to sell coins to you at a discounted price. Also usually, these things are done in an auction: large coins are being sold outside the market in order to not crash or inflate the price accidentally. Better just stick in an exchange and place a buy order and hope for the best.
8500  Economy / Economics / Re: Comparison between the wallet Balance of BANKS vs CRYPTO EXCHANGES on: February 22, 2019, 06:30:45 PM
Right.. When these same assets crypto exchanges have are all stored in banks anyway, except for their cryptocurrencies, of course. There really isn't any comparison to begin with, actually, considering how big deposits are coming in on the banks. If they so do wish, they can just eat up the whole cryptomarket at one chomp, and nada! Gone are the cryptocurrencies and are now on the hands of these banks. Also given the maturity of these financial institutions and the trust they built over centuries, it's a no-brainer that they're worth more than their new and relatively untrusted crypto exchange counterparts.
