8501  Other / Beginners & Help / [Warning]Clipsa – Multipurpose password stealer on: August 16, 2019, 02:43:59 PM
I just thought to share this to everyone, I saw this in our local boards here: [MALWARE] Crypto Stealing Malware Clipsa Targeted Computers in the Philippines by rosezionjohn

Report says that the malicious malware has stolen around 3 BTC not that big but the thing is that it can continue to infect a lot of pc's around the world and the number could grow in months.

What makes this scary is that this malware targeted crypto wallets. As per this blog post by Avast:

Quote
High level overview

Clipsa is a multipurpose password stealer, written in Visual Basic, focusing on stealing cryptocurrencies, brute-forcing and stealing administrator credentials from unsecured WordPress websites, replacing crypto-addresses present in a clipboard, and mining cryptocurrencies on infected machines. Several versions of Clipsa also deploy an XMRig coinminer to make even more money from infected computers.

Clipsa spreads as a malicious executable file, likely disguised as codec pack installers for media players. Once on an infected device, Clipsa can perform multiple actions, such as searching for cryptowallet addresses present in victims’ clipboards to then replace the addresses victims want to send money to with wallet addresses owned by the bad actors behind Clipsa. Furthermore, Clipsa is capable of searching for and stealing wallet.dat files, and installing a cryptocurrency miner.

Additionally, Clipsa uses infected PCs to crawl the internet for vulnerable WordPress sites. Once it finds a vulnerable site, it attempts to brute-force its way into the site, sending the valid login credentials to Clipsa’s C&C servers. While we cannot say for sure, we believe the bad actors behind Clipsa steal further data from the breached sites. We also suspect they use the infected sites as secondary C&C servers to host download links for miners, or to upload and store stolen data.

You can read all the details here:

https://decoded.avast.io/janrubin/clipsa-multipurpose-password-stealer/

Again, we need to be safe and be careful as we don't want to be the next victim here.

I also did saw removal guide here, but I'm not certain how effective it is.
8502  Economy / Economics / Hong Kong Activist Leader Calls For A Run On Chinese Banks Tomorrow (Friday) on: August 16, 2019, 11:07:20 AM
Quote
Prominent Hong Kong pro-independence political activist Chen Haotian has called for a run on Chinese banks, asking that everyone withdraw their money on the same day.

Arguing that large scale protests have only led to injuries and escalating police brutality, Haotian believes another method could be used to severely undermine China’s influence – a good old fashioned run on the bank.

He suggested that another method could be used, namely, impacting the financial system,” reports China Press.

“He called on Friday (August 16) that Hong Kong citizens take out all bank deposits. The primary goal is Chinese banks, but he said other banks should also be targeted, otherwise Chinese banks can borrow money from other banks to solve problems.”

Hong Kong has been rocked by weeks of violent protests by pro-independence campaigners. Earlier this week, riot police stormed Hong Kong International Airport to clear them out.

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-08-15/hong-kong-activist-leader-calls-run-bank

I'm telling you, the Hong Kong drama is getting worst by the day, withdraw all their money and then go to BTC and leverage their wealth, I think that's the best option for them.  Grin

Seriously, I don't know if this is going to be a good method to force the Chinese government to have an effective solution to their domestic problems. China would bulge an inch we all know that, and the only victims here are the common and casual people inside Hong Kong.
8503  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lomachenko-Campbell Unification Fight on: August 16, 2019, 10:46:59 AM
Lomachenko is the clear favourite to win this fight but I think Campbell will not be an easy opponent to beat.I think that since the odds are low on Lomachenko a small bet for Campbell would not hurt anyone to try.

You never know the physical condition of each fighter, also you don't know their moral so anything can happen.
Loma previous fight before this upcoming fight totally prove him to be in good shape and like you have also confirmed he the favourite and most supported. Besides, he's the reason why a lot of boxing fans bought the fight ticket and I don't see Campbell as a difficult opponent for him

As someone has pointed out, the fight will happen on O2 arena, that's Campbell's hometurf so he is the main reason why the fight tickets are sold out and not because they wanted to see Lomachenko. They wanted to see their local boy and support him on his fight and maybe thinking of seeing an upset here. Fighters are also good during their previous fights, and we don't know what shape they are in the next one. Although Lomachenko is the clear favourite here, we have seen what happen to Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr.

Here are the undercards:

Manchester Heavyweight Hughie Fury (23-2, 13 KOs) takes on former WBA World Champion Alexander Povetkin (34-2, 24 KOs),

WBC Flyweight ruler Charlie Edwards (15-1, 6 KOs) makes the second defence of his crown against Mandatory Challenger Julio Cesar Martinez (14-1, 11 KOs),

Joe Cordina (9-0, 7 KOs) defends his British and Commonwealth Lightweight titles against Gavin Gwynne (11-0, 1 KO) in a mouth-watering battle of Wales and Hartlepool star Savannah Marshall (6-0, 4 KOs) makes her highly-anticipated Matchroom Boxing debut.

Nice share, what makes it more interesting is that the idea behind and how it can help crypto to be adopted globally. Those two guys are visionaries and I would say that they are very lucky and have a good pitch that companies are willing to fund their project because it is really unique. For those who are not familiar on what these guys are building,

8505  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pacquiao Vs Mayweather 2 on: August 16, 2019, 02:07:59 AM
The question is,which or whose opponent on his mind to be his last fight before he retires? No one even knows that one. Age doesnt really matter but generations do pass out
and new younger boxers will took those titles.Time comes where their prime would pass out so decisions of retirement will vary on each boxer on when.
There are rumors that it's going be with Spence but there are hypes kicking in for this rematch.

If Manny retires, his legacy will never forgotten and hopefully will be continued by his son, Jimuel.

Porter and Spence will clash on September 28, so we have to wait for the outcome of the fight before we can see that happening in the future. I have doubts that Jimuel will follow his father's footsteps. They are already secured and I don't think that either of their parents are willing to let their son go in the boxing arena. It would be better for Jimuel to concentrate on how to run their family business if Manny retires for good.

[9] Do limit the apps that have access to your personal information on your mobile phone, for example, online games apps.

Kung meron kayong iba pang tips o gusto idagdag mag share lang kayo dito.

8508  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Muli natin bisitahin ang Phishing at iba't ibang uri nito. on: August 15, 2019, 11:15:25 PM

May kasabihan nga tayo, "think before you click", kaya sana maging gabay to sa atin.

8509  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lomachenko-Campbell Unification Fight on: August 15, 2019, 01:44:39 PM
I have seen several matches of Lomachenko on Youtube and I'm really impressed he is out of this world, I have never seen a guy so quick to duck a punch, Prince Hameed was fast in his heydays but this guy is faster and so accurate with his punches he is still very young I don't think Campbell will have a chance at all.

I think Prince Hameed is different though, he was really gifted until he was exposed by Barerra. While Lomachenko works hard to accomplished, both of them are Olympic champions and we rarely see boxers who is good in amateur becoming great in professional.

Although Loma is technically gifted, he's certainly no knockout artist. It's actually quite rare to see him outright KO or TKO his opponents, they mostly just give up.

Because of this, I expect that Loma will just dance around Campbell the entire fight, outlanding him, frustrating him and generally making Campbell look useless.

I'd still call that devestation in my opinion.

Like how he frustrates Rigondeaux?  Grin

I also reached Hero status today, so it is really doable. I was already a Senior Member when the merit system was introduced, I take everything in stride and challenge myself that I will be Hero and that day has been realised today. I'm sure you will have your day and became a Hero and just continue to be motivated day-in day out.

I agree that cryptocurrency is no longer a niche. It's going global and more people are finding crypto as one of the best investment platform. The downside is that it has a big risk involved. If you wanted to see more crypto terms, I urge you to check this thread, Cryptocurrency Lingo/Slang.
8513  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Muli natin bisitahin ang Phishing at iba't ibang uri nito. on: August 15, 2019, 02:49:05 AM

8514  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lomachenko-Campbell Unification Fight on: August 14, 2019, 10:02:03 PM
Here are the odds:

Lomachenko is the overwhelming favourite here. Just checking Campbell's record and I see that he has the tools to make an upset here. We may never know, Linares gives Lomachenko one hell of a fight and even had a flush KO in early rounds, Campbell though lost to Linares but it doesn't mean that this is an easy job for Lomachenko though.
8515  Other / Beginners & Help / What's your email security best practice? on: August 14, 2019, 12:17:12 PM
Hello there,

Everyone here has its own security method to protect their account. And so I think it would be better if you guys can share yours your tips. I will start mine,

[1] The most important of all, use a strong password, I emphasized strong, not good. It should consist of at least 10-14 characters or even longer, combinations of numbers, characters (lower and upper case) and symbols. Here is one guide [GUIDE] How to Create a Strong/Secure Password.

[2] Once you got a strong password, I make sure that at least I back it up, and make it a habit to change password every 3-6 months.

[3] Create different email for different purposes. For personal email, I used protonmail, then I create emails for my gambling activity only, and the another for my crypto related activities.

[4] 2FA -  This adds another layer of protection. So it's important to use it whenever possible.

[5] Password Manager - There's a lot of free password manager out there, so I advise others to try it as well.

[6] Use different password for all your emails. As a compliment to point 3 (as you listed above), the use of different password is also vital. This helps in situations if your emails or any online account gets compromised, the hacker can't easily have access to your other emails as they're not linked with the same password which is usually their first guess since majority of online users use similar password for all their online activities. If you have other tips, please kindly share it and I will try to keep this thread up to date.
8516  Local / Pamilihan / Muli natin bisitahin ang Phishing at iba't ibang uri nito. on: August 14, 2019, 11:34:47 AM
At ayon sa report na to, Cybercriminal activity is one of the biggest challenges that humanity will face in the next two decades..

Quote
Cybersecurity Ventures predicts cybercrime will cost the world in excess of
$6 trillion annually by 2021, up from $3 trillion in 2015.

How Scammer tried to Hack my Bitcointalk and how to Protect yourself?⚠️.

[1] Smishing (SMS Phishing) - Meron akong binuksan thread tungkol diyan. Smishing and how not to fall for it.

[2] Vishing (Voice Phishing) - So heto ung pag atake gamit ang telepono. Credit to DdmrDdmr.

[3] CatPhishing -
Don't forget about catphishing as well. That's when some dude pretends to be a female to try get their victim to let their guard down and send them bitcoins (because obviously a woman would never scam anyone - they're far too nice for that).

[5] Evil twin phishing - "An evil twin, in security, is a rogue wireless access point that masquerades as a legitimate Wi-Fi access point so that an attacker can gather personal or corporate information without the end-user's knowledge."

Source: https://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/definition/evil-twin.

8517  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Acceptance of Bitcoin and Crypto in New Zealand: A Curious Case on: August 13, 2019, 01:05:29 PM
So it also means that they have to pay taxes for it, how much is the tax rate in New Zealand?

Quote
Tax rates

New Zealand’s top personal tax rate is 33% for income over NZ$70,000. At the other end of the scale, the tax rate is 10.5% on income up to $14,000. For full details, see ‘New Zealand tax at a glance’ below.

Companies and corporates are taxed at a flat rate of 28%.

https://www.newzealandnow.govt.nz/living-in-nz/money-tax/nz-tax-system

But perhaps if you can declare them as capital gains you can get away with some tax leniency, if I'm not mistaken.

I think we have seen so many songs that mentioned 'bitcoin" in the lyrics. As far as I can remember, slim shady has one track, so I guess we will continue song writers composing songs about bitcoin in the future. However, I haven't seen significant effects, although musicians could make an impact with their songs for the masses, I doubt that this new song can bring some investors to the market, just to be honest.

I still remember that there was one binary option services here before, I think at that time it was one of the longest bitcoin paying signature campaigns but I don't know what really happened to them. Anyways, I think this is really gambling per se, as you are betting on what will be the future price, so losses can be big and it's possible that you can loss all your capital here just like in gambling, odds are against you once you put your 'bet'.
