I'm sure when bitcoin reaches 1 million. Most would already sold their bitcoin when it reach 10k.  Smiley

Ha-ha that is so true although knowing Bitcoin some of them may get lucky and get it back at a lower price then sell and profit most of that way up anyways

One can argue though that is only because the United States helped to rebuild the country as a result of the Soviet Union

The Japanese are very hard working and very intelligent. They didn't received much of aid from the US. What they have achieved, they did it on their own. Remember that, even before the WW2 Japan was a very advanced society. The average Japanese during the 1930s were much more educated than the Spanish or Italians of that time.

I'll concede that the Japanese miracle was caused by their determination to retrieve their place in the international system but discounting the US to much would miss the whole point of it being a miracle
The economy was devastated after WW2 maybe not to the same extreme degree as Europe but they had it pretty tough
That said I do credit the Japanese themselves for creating the right policies and integrating industries towards their economic recovery
After all even if you don't make to much guaranteed work security Shūshin koyō means that you would work hard for your company
Not socialist at all since there were not that many jobs after the war, and job security became paramount to personal security, and economic reform.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_post-war_economic_miracle

Also one must factor the Lost Decade notably started around the same time the Soviet Union collapsed and there most certainty is a relationship there and not causation

Ha-ha I guess this is a boob travel guide for those looking to find the ideal bust size Lmao

If there isn't one, then we can ask the OP to compile one. BTW... I just posted the maps for sarcastic purposes. It is entirely inaccurate. For example,  Russians and Belorussians are the same people. But according to the map, Russians have the biggest jugs, while the Belorussians have the smallest ones. Hard to believe. But still... accurate as far as Asia is concerned.

For some reason I feel like there is a large untapped market of boob tourism that someone can unlock by creating a book about it.
Aka which countries have the largest bust size on average, throw in some statistics ask the FBI and NSA for their databases on breast size (J/K) But they do have a lot of data and compile a book lol.
I wonder how much comedy you need to throw in to get it listed in Chapters/Indigos/HMV/Powell's etc ha-ha but I can see it being the Gag Gift of the Season lol. (Followed by Feminists a Guide to Male Dick Sizes by Country XD (Ok a bit inappropriate sorry Smiley)

But asking the OP to compile a ideal bust guide ^_^
An epic use of time on bitcointalk XD.
8525  Economy / Economics / Re: losing faith on: April 20, 2014, 06:55:06 AM
Volatility is a big problem with Bitcoin. Every now and then it gives an impression that the prices have stabilized. Then some bad news (or just some rumors) will come in and crash the prices.

True enough although the badest news has more or less arrived already so what is left is the stabilized low trough
8526  Other / Off-topic / Re: Wal-Mart to start a new store-to-store money transfer service on: April 20, 2014, 06:52:22 AM
The main benefit is that it keeps a ledger that Walmart can use to track transactions to see how many people use the system on a daily basis and what they can optimize it for to maximize profits. (Walmart may be able to do this already but can isolate one sector of its retail using Crypto)
(Example Walmart knows one location is very popular so they do more advertising there than in places where they receive lower income places or the reverse if they think they can take market share).
In addition the benefit of removing the cashier from the transaction may reduce some stealing. (Example Cashier in Oklahoma knows Cashier in Colorado Sends some money every couple of months to Cashier B and quits before the end of the year accounting is sent no one knows who sent what the money is lost long siphon)
Vs: Cashier X sent Amount A to Cashier Y (Blockchain trackable) and they realize it eventually when they do the accounting and can trace it to an individual.
I think your right given how Walmart operates might not seem too practical now but who knows in the future, it just seems a bit cheaper to have a few miners and a transaction log that they can have in all stores to determine demand for it, than the cost involved in setting up a new system from scratch (Unless they are using moneymart/Western Unions stuff) in all their Walmart stores. Cutting the bottom line and save money is the walmart motto, so that is where I see some cryptography benefits applying.

Makes sense, it would indeed be an easy way to keep an accurate and foolproof ledger. Thanks for your answer.
The best algorithm for them would probably be PoS with all the coins centrally premined; gives the benefits you mentioned, without risk of an external 51% attack and no need for miners.

Thanks was wondering if it made sense there for a bit was feeling a bit technical
Gets tricky not turning it into a white paper
Aka Alice said Hi to Bob and bought apples while Carl watching it tried to steal these apples but was blocked by a Cryptographic chain of transactions longer than his ^_^

A POS with no mining but just sending would work, wonder if that can be coded technically
100% of Coin Distribution, Secure Internal System of Transmission, Instant transaction and processing with Unique addresses but no miners
Decentralized and still sending without someone mining makes me wonder.
If not a central premine from a head office or two to ensure not single node of failure would work as long as it connects to the general walmart retail network, which it should because if it didn't Western Union or Moneygram or Walmarts own service would be affected as well so non-factor.

8528  Other / Off-topic / Re: Wal-Mart to start a new store-to-store money transfer service on: April 20, 2014, 06:33:02 AM

Not necessarily if they made an alt coin and then pre-mined the whole system they could use the cryptography benefits to do free transfers of value from A to B and determine each coin to a predetermined value.

Very High Markup

Say Each Walmart coin is worth a dollar
User X in Idaho Wants 60 Dollars sent to Oklahoma
Send 60 Walmart Coins
User in Oklahoma converts Walmart Coins to Cash
All occurring in the system and the clerk just knows user in Oklahoma gets 60 bucks and pays a 3 dollar fiat fee for the service

Guess it would require a bit of integration into the teller system but seems doable.

But what would be the advantage for a centralized company to build a cryptocurrency whose network have to be secured? Couldn't they, simply:
1- Costumer asks for 20$ to be transfered to a Wal-Mart in Colorado, he pays to the cashier. 2-Cashier enters in the computer "20$ shall be deducted from this store and added to Colorado's store" 3- Friend of the costumer collects money in Colorado.

I really don't see what benefits would PoW bring to that system.

The main benefit is that it keeps a ledger that Walmart can use to track transactions to see how many people use the system on a daily basis and what they can optimize it for to maximize profits. (Walmart may be able to do this already but can isolate one sector of its retail using Crypto)

8529  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin no longer in ubuntu as of 14.04? on: April 20, 2014, 06:17:51 AM
Debian didn't remove or stop supporting bitcoin-qt, but ubuntu did.  This will arguably have taken more work than just leaving it in.

See https://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-motu@lists.ubuntu.com/msg07491.html for the likely reason it was removed.

So it becomes an updating issue due to old software releases and a change in the database binaries when it updates to the newest edition
Makes sense from that perspective

Wonder how long till they start using Bitcoin based infrastructure to do money transfers Smiley

Sadly they would not benefit in using cryptocurrencies. The transfer is internal in their company, so there is no third party to be trusted, hence I believe Bitcoin offers no advantage for their service.

Not necessarily if they made an alt coin and then pre-mined the whole system they could use the cryptography benefits to do free transfers of value from A to B and determine each coin to a predetermined value.

According to google it's only available for US citizens right now.

This is pretty cool got to hand it to bitcointalk to keep up to date on tech changes

The fees are way too high, yet many still don't see the benefits that Bitcoin offers.

Check my reply:

It is especially meant for people who send small amounts, such as $100 or $200. The fee is quite affordable, at less than 2%. If you send $500 using Moneygram or Western Union, then they will charge commissions ranging from 5% to 10% (I am talking about domestic transfers). Also, WU offices are not as common as Wal-Mart shops. A lot of people will use this new service.

Well the fees are high compared to Bitcoin, was what I actually meant.
And yes, I know the WU fees are crazy.

WU Fees are crazy still I will admit that if Walmart enters into the Money Service Business with Facebook and other such organizations we may be in for an interesting ride.

Wonder how long till they start using Bitcoin based infrastructure to do money transfers Smiley

Does this company not give monthly or quarterly reports? How is an investor supposed to know what is going on? Looks like it has been a scam all along.

Well they are strangely quiet about their operations would not call that a scam quite yet though

Why would anybody use that? Only kind of works in America, $900 is the upper limit, and the fee is nothing close to affordable.

It is especially meant for people who send small amounts, such as $100 or $200. The fee is quite affordable, at less than 2%. Interesting enough Walmart is doing it but the one I am watching is Facebook
Basically Bitcoin and Crytotechnology in General has started to push the other industries towards making their own

8539  Economy / Speculation / Re: $600 by end of today? on: April 19, 2014, 08:15:49 AM
prices dropped a bit due to Chinese bank account closure. It will rise slowly again.

Still a fairly stable range though so its nice to be above 500 again

Below $500 for now.  But the appetite is there, just need a few more weak hands to get out of the market and more breathing space from MT Gox and China rumors.

Ah your right guess it went back down again and I agree just need a trigger of sorts or a few more large companies trying it out to see it go up again.

Seedcoin Fund I Update: No GoCoin, What Next?

http://bitcoin-betting-guide.com/james-cannings-blog/seedcoin-fund-i-update-no-gocoin-what-next/

TLDR

GoCoin has decided not to accept Seedcoin Fund I investment. This represents a failure of Seedcoin management and an unintentional shafting of investors. More than a week after becoming aware of this Seedcoin has still not communicated it to investors and GoCoin is still listed on SFI Havelock Investment pages.

Investors deserve to be kept in the loop kind of surprised that I am just hearing about most of this information now
In the Disclosure
I became aware of the GoCoin news 4 days ago, 3 days after Seedcoin did. I instantly brought these questions up with Seedcoin and they assured me they would inform the market within a few days.

Guess I wait but looking back nobody has done anything in this thread since January lol
