8541  Economy / Speculation / [Bearish] Bitcoin Risks Crashing to $900 If Dot-Com Mania Is Any Guide on: February 13, 2018, 01:17:22 AM
I have been thinking about this lately. On the month of January 2017, no one would believe or even conceive that bitcoin would rise to $20,000 if someone told you it will, but it did.

Now giving that as an argument, do you reckon that an extreme prediction to the opposite direction is also possible?

Already slashed by more than half since hitting a record near $20,000 in December, the cryptocurrency could plunge a further 90 percent in an environment of unsustainably growing supply, according to Bloomberg Intelligence commodity strategist Mike McGlone. Using Amazon.com Inc. and the Nasdaq Composite Index’s spectacular rise and retreat at the turn of the millennium as a proxy, he said the currency could plunge to $900.

After 2 years of development and millions taken from their ICO, this is the best they can come up with? What happened to their child chain or is it side chain implementation for dapps? That was the selling point of their project wasn't it?

I also have not seen any known projects that used Lisk as their platform for smart contracts and dapps. Why is this?

At least Ethereum has the Cryptokitties hehehe.

I really think some people are too impatient. I know crypto is a really fast moving/fast-paced market. But that does not supply to Crypto Startups. I mean how could it. Those things usually take years of development, look at Ethereum, Neo.. I even think that's pretty fast to be honest.

Yeah, the side chains should be the child chains. And I guess there a no projects that build on Lisk because it's not possible yet. But this is going to change soon, basically that's the point of this whole thing. I hope they'll announce when exactly at the event :d
Also Lisk has actually nothing to do with smart contracts (as for now). But they do have the side chains which could allow 'similar' stuff or rather allows to implement stuff like that. You could even use the Ethereum blockchain for implementing smart contracts and run it on top of your Lisk applications if you wanted to as far as I know. That's the huge advantage of side chains.
So if there were Cryptodogs or whatever built on Lisk using a side chain it would not affect Lisk at all.

I reckon the Lisk development team, like some of the developments teams in the past, have overpromised but underdelivered. Also, wasn't Lisk's founder also involved in Crypti? Remember that? That was another project that overpromised but did not live up to the promise after burning through their budget.

Yeah, probably. When Crypti wasn't continued anymore, Lisk was forked and Oliver and Max began to step in Crypti's footsteps with Lisk.
I think a huge problem for Crypti that time was the absence of funds to development for years.

What makes you say that Lisk's bigger funding would be a path to success? What if they bankrupt themselves and still no projects have started to use Lisk as their main platform?

Remember that regulators are coming after the ICOs and that would cause a use case shortage for platforms like Lisk.

It's not. It's just way more comfortable to have enough funds to pay employees for the next years, even without any potential income.
If they bankrupt themselves Lisk will not be successful, obviously.  I just don't think that will happen since they really behave reasonably with their funds.

I even think it's a good thing that ICOs will be or rather might be regulated one day. Regulation is in my opinion a real chance for everyone to get into crypto. There would be some drawbacks first but in the long run it's the right move. Also you don't only need those kind of platforms for ICOs.
'Real developers' could just build real applications with a use case on Lisk, as an example. Businesses could build on Lisk. I don't really see why it should only benefit from ICOs.

How many years more does the Lisk's development team have before their funding runs out, and what's their longterm plan after that?

Also, that's the problem with the statement, Businesses could build on Lisk. Is there really a need to?

I reckon using a software bundle like LAMP for a startup is better because it is free, proven, and tested. Using something untested like Lisk would force startups to pay for tokens just to use the platform, which is inefficient.

8544  Other / Meta / I reckon more warnings are necessary to protect newbies from ICOs on: February 11, 2018, 02:46:26 AM
The altcoin subforum has become a sea of shills that are adamantly bombarding that subforum with new ICO threads everyday. To make matters worse, they also have made farmed accounts to bump those threads, trying to make it look like there's interest in them.

I reckon it's necessary that thread starting posts from newbies should include red warnings in them in any altcoin subforum.
8545  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 221: Romero vs Rockhold Prediction and Info Thread on: February 11, 2018, 02:32:34 AM
Is Luke Rockhold versus Yoel Romero supposed to be an interim middleweight championship fight or a fight for the no.1 rank spot? Yoel missed weight after 2 attempts, weighing at 187.7 pounds. What would happen now? Does Luke Rockhold automatically get the title shot, win or lose?

That's probably going to be the case here since yoel romero forfeited his chance of challenging robert whittaker if he wins. It's fortunate that rickhold even agreed to push through with the fight. I mean they've been given ample time to meet the weight limit. Would've been a lot more exciting if something's on the line aside from a win/loss

Because not fighting would also suggest that they will receive no payment. In any case part of Yoel's payment will go to Luke Rockhold regardless if Luke wins or loses. It is a good compromise for Luke only if he becomes the priority to fight Robert Whitaker for the middleweight championship.

@richardsNY. Another possible scenario would be keeping our holdings private in anonymous cryptocoins like Monero or, when it's ready, Aeon.

With 2nd layer technologies being developed on top of the blockchain we might be able to convert coins atomically between different blockchains without the need for exchanges. So if you want to pay your taxes, all we have to do is convert to bitcoin while keeping our privacy safe.

8547  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-11] U.S. Lawmaker Wants Ethics Committee to Form Bitcoin Disclosure Gui on: February 11, 2018, 02:01:39 AM
“Members of Congress and covered employees are already required to report certain asset holdings over certain amounts, including reporting any commodities holding over $1,000,” Polis argues in his petition to the HCE.

What about our privacy? What if I do not want my holdings to be known by anyone? I'm not a criminal and I have never used Aeon or bitcoin in anything illegal, that should be enough for them unless they find some evidence against me.

Also, privacy is a basic human right.

@digaran. From a speculator's perspective, I reckon this will be a race of the anonymous coins from 2018 onward.
8548  Economy / Speculation / Re: "Bitcoin Bull is not yet over" on: February 10, 2018, 06:26:43 AM
I just read this comments on reddit and I believe this should encourage some of us to keep holding our Bitcoin!
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/7w2f83/bitcoin_bull_is_not_over_novogratz_raises_250/

As I started reading the comments, the first comment made me spit my coffee on my keyboard. Literally.

Good to see Wayne Rooney has found a new career.

I generally lean on agreeing that it's not over yet, but it's also very possible that the state of the market will be the same as 2013 - 2015, giving us 2 years worth of accumulation. I suggest we take the chance.
8549  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-09]Arizona Closer to Accepting Bitcoin and Regulating ICOs on: February 10, 2018, 06:08:39 AM
There were also some articles saying that Arizona was also open to the idea to allow people in the state to pay their taxes in bitcoin. If that ends up well, with more states or maybe countries accepting the idea of taxes paid in bitcoin, I reckon it would open up the possibility for bitcoin to become a world reserve currency where the Arab states might accept bitcoin for crude oil.

I know it's hard to envision today, but it is going in that direction.

@Febo. Yes, I am aware of that. Smooth already said it would take extra work to remove RingCT from the code and if it was going to be activated in the future, it was better to leave it in.

@witch. A higher price would be good but that's not the aim. Think about a lighter version of Monero but just as private and decentralized.

I assume that code rebate will include a wallet GUI?

It does not include GUI, but it makes GUI, web wallet, and all open source code written for Monero available for AEON out of the box

How would you compare your work compared to stoffu's and Dr.Paradox's work on the rebase? Would all 3 have major and noticeable differences that would make each special?

In any case, thank you for your efforts. You were the natural choice for the job, seeing your experience on Cryptonote.

8554  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-02-09] Bitfinex's Biggest Critic Is Back on Twitter on: February 09, 2018, 04:39:18 AM
What the article did not report was the person controlling the Bitfinex'ed account on Twitter collected $50,000 in bitcoin for a lawsuit he was supposed to lead that did not materialize. That makes him a scammer and a troll.

I reckon the Twitter moderators made the wrong decision in unbanning him.

A spokesman for Bitfinex and Tether denied the claims of spamming and automated mass reporting. He would not say whether the companies had reported the account to Twitter at all, even manually.

According to Mashable, a Twitter spokesperson said that the suspension "was a mistake."

8555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: February 09, 2018, 03:56:54 AM
@Febo. I reckon all 3 teams will receive their fair share of the bounty, with hardest workers in DrParadox's team from what I have observed on Reddit. But it was without their own share of controversy hehehe. Someone was accusing them of trying to get the community behind in copying Monero's bi-annual hard forks and also having RingCT activated.

I reckon activating RingCT would be Aeon's biggest mistake. I agree with Fa-yer. Aeon should stay lightweight, must be easy to sync and we should follow smooth's plan to wait for the implementation of Bulletproofs before RingCT's activation.
8556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Etherium Classic - Callisto airdop 5th of March 2018 on: February 09, 2018, 03:03:45 AM

How will this influence the current price of ETC?  Grin And what would be a fair price for 1 Callisto (CLO) coin?

Of course it will. They are doing an ICO by proxy like what the NXT developers did with Ardor and Ignis.

The Callisto development team and its followers are conceivably buying a lot of Ethereum Classic right now, only to dump them on March 5th. It's a trick. Most of these platforms will be worthless in a few years and some smart people are taking advantage of the opportunity to make bitcoins while it's there.

I have no problem with that. The cryptospace is a place for opportunity. But you should also be well informed of their tricks.

Finally some progress. Thank you for the update.

@smooth. What is your timeline for merging the code rebase? We need LMDB right away. As the blockchain keeps growing, it's making it hard for me to maintain a node.

My Windows node is stuck on block 916,816 and I reckon it's because 8gb of ram cannot handle it anymore. I will post a screenshot later.
8559  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt-Discussion Forum is going Downhill on: February 09, 2018, 01:51:36 AM
I agree 100%. This forum should be used like a tool for learning as it was when I first came here. Maybe the root cause of the problem is partly because there have been many useless projects being developed and they use Bitcointalk as their platform for shilling.

I reckon some stricter rules should be enforced to discourage them from such behavior.
8560  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 221: Romero vs Rockhold Prediction and Info Thread on: February 08, 2018, 03:10:32 AM
Was it only me or was there a major shift in the betting odds between Yoel Romero and Luke Rockhold? I reckon when I first looked at the odds a month ago, Luke was the slight underdog, then today Yoel Romero is the underdog. What happened?

Does anyone know a website where I can check the odds and how it went up or down over time?
