Is Bitcoin the New Swiss Bank Account (And Is That a Problem?)

Bitcoin was embraced by many for its libertarian ideals of economic liberty and individual sovereignty. But it has now effectively been dragged into the current, and very public, privacy debate between Apple and the FBI.

Why Bitcoin Investors Should Be Buying & Holding

By holding, we don't mean just part of a portfolio as a long-term investment (although this is a good time to keep it there as well). We mean active traders buying and selling daily/weekly/monthly.

How the Bitcoin Blockchain Can Unlock the Internet's Full Potential

This week, Brian Forde, MIT Media Lab's director of digital currency, breaks down how the Bitcoin and the blockchain could transform the way the world does business. Bitcoin is a digital currency created in 2008 and the blockchain its global public ledger, which records every Bitcoin transaction. Forde explains how money transfer is only one use of Bitcoin and the blockchain. Find out how the protocols can be used to make smart contracts, transfer physical assets from person to person like a house, and more.

Paris-based Bitit launches to let you buy Bitcoins from 100,000 physical stores around the world

Despite questions about Bitcoin’s future, a new Paris-based startup called Bitit has created a service designed to make it easier than ever for average people to acquire the virtual currency.

Nicolas Katan, cofounder and CEO of Bitit, says the company’s goal is to solve two of Bitcoin’s biggest issues: accessibility and fraud.

9 Myths Surrounding Blockchain Smart Contracts

Smart contracts are a key underpinning of blockchain technology, yet they are still misunderstood in many ways.

In the fullness of their deployment, they will be no less revolutionary than the invention of the HTML markup language that allowed information to be openly published and linked on the Web. Smart contracts promise to program our world on the head of blockchains, and potentially replace many functions currently executed by expensive or slow intermediaries.

878  Economy / Economics / Re: ECB Chief Economist: toolbox is not empty, "helicopter money" is legit option on: March 23, 2016, 06:54:45 PM
It has been done before. In 2001, the U.S. sent checks for $300 - $600 to every taxpayer.

Also, if it is going to happen, I think it is better to give the money directly to people rather to banks as it is currently done.

"Did they work as a counter-recession policy? The answer to that question depends in part on households’ propensity to consume out of the increased disposable income due to the rebates. Our survey-based research suggests that the spending rate was quite low compared to what many economists had expected."
