Coinbase is over 460, hopefully we can get it to stay for a while.  Not by much at 461 and change but I will take it.

And coindesk has a nice API for watching it and other exchanges - http://www.coindesk.com/price/ .  I like being able to select the exchanges as some do tend to be higher then others.

what i mean is its not that far fetched a story from talks cheep.. I feel with bitmain past record its only a matter of time.. these machines are fire hazards!  All of them.. Not just bitmain.  if it has a pcie connector its subject to fire.  end of story

Best Regards
d57heinz

I understand what your saying.  I just am using proper PSU's and proper electrical wiring, and have not had any problems with S7's.

The S7 has been out quite a while at this point.  So I find it a little far fetched that not one house burning from them, to attribute them as fire starters burning down houses.  The problem I see what your saying with PCIe adapter = subject to fire is there so many different quality's of PSU's, Cables, etc.   So many variables in there besides just the miner.

We just have not seen any news to show S7's related to burning down anything like a house(that I know of). And if I am wrong show me proof.
863  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Spondoolies done? on: May 15, 2016, 02:27:15 PM
What a crap article, so much typos. Anyways, i guess this just prove competing with China's cheap labor, parts and manufacture is a hard thing to do.

power costs killed them more then anything else
they never could self mine to off set costs

It was also the machines to though.  Compare the SP20 and S5 that went head to head.  SP20 was metal all the way around they really did not keep material cost down.  Then look at S5 they managed to use 2 slabs of plastic and keep cost's down.

So there really was a big difference on materials.  Bitmain just out designed them on a miner to sell to masses.  And SP claimed they lost money trying to compete on price with S5 (we cannot be sure if true).

But I do agree on power to if they would have self mined at less power costs... they might have been able to stay around much longer.

"Bitmain just out designed them"Huh Really???

You mean, Bitmain beat them by cutting corners and lowering the price. Design-wise Spondoolies SP20 was miles ahead of Bitmain S5. SP20 is an elegant piece of hardware, S5 is a junk in comparison. Bitmain just does NOT know how to DESIGN anything, they know how to CUT CORNERS for more PROFIT. Bitmain Sux.

I'm just so appalled by these pro-Bitmain people on the forum, do they get paid by Bitmain? If not, they must be smoking something.

Did I tell you how crappy Bitmain S5/S7 miners are? They sux.

To say that Bitmain's miners are subpar is fair, you can't for a second deny the fact that building things cheap and en masse is China in a nutshell. You've failed to consider the fact that in terms of price/reliability/efficiency they are fantastic (not perfect). You're arguing that "Spondoolie makes far superior miners" yet here they are, out of business, almost certainly due to refusing to "cut corners" as you put it.

Guess what, when your competition comes out with a cheaper, mass produced product and drives you out of business; THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF CAPITALISM! Just look at the f**king Iphone! A cheap, poorly made imitation product mass produced by nearly slave labor that holds a huge chunk of the market FOR THOSE PRECISE REASONS!

I have two family members who scoff anytime Bitcoin is mentioned because "China owns 70% of Bitcoin".

THIS FACT MAKES PERFECT SENSE!

China has 1bn people and some of the most restrictive currency controls. Of course they're adopting Bitcoin. They have one of if not the best mass-production capability for consumer products especially electronics. Of course they're mass-manufacturing miners.
Don't hate China for doing what they do best, don't even hate the USA or EU for NOT being the manufacturers, your livable wages and quality of life are the price you pay for your country not being able to compete with them. Whether that's good or bad is a pointless debate.

In any case I'm agreeing with notlist3d, you have made accusations regarding s7's causing house fires which is absolute nonsense. I have (through months of research preparing for my mining rig) come across ZERO incidents regarding a miner fire. I have found a couple incidents regarding electrical fires where miners happened to be the devices pulling the power when the electrical failed, most likely due to poor design or cutting corners. If you have a REAL incident regarding a MINER and NOT THE ELECTRICAL SERVICE causing a fire I would love to review that information. Not that it makes much of a difference because I built a fire-resistant enclosure for my mine because it made all the sense to do so.

tl;dr talks_cheep continues to be a hater with nothing to back it up Tongue

Not to back up talks cheep. but this was just posted int he bitmain thread.. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1165628.msg14821437#msg14821437  also its not uncommon the s5 went total nuclear meltdown.. And i was the first to report the psu burning up in the s4.. So to be naive of bitmain track record falls on you.. Noone else.

BEst Regards
d57heinz

There is no story behind that miner though. I would love to hear what happened what PSU was used, etc.  Just no info there.   You mention other models talks cheap specifically said:

S7 is a fire hazard, especially in hot climate like India. Many of the S7 owners risk burning down their houses. This will be a front page news in many countries around the world: "Bitcoin miner burns house down!"

Find one claim of a S7 burning down a house.... I just have not seen it.
864  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 One Fan (S7-F1) - Notlist3d on: May 15, 2016, 02:01:10 PM
How is your fan set ?

Your temps looked pretty good what is the room temp?

Also to say something else nice about bitmain warranty  one of their workers: Yoshi is the person that paid my compensation from my bad batch 1 even though it was purchased from mainland China.

Fan is set to auto, it seems to work good so far within first few day's.   So far have not any problems with it as it heats up it speeds up... and slows down as it cools down.   That was a pretty high RPM but it was around 80 F outside during first set.

It is around 60 F outside now and here is fan currently:

As I monitor it more I will get some readings with my temp gun out of mining area.  But so far I don't really see a reason to set a fan level as it does a good job on it's own. For initial testing literally only things changed were the IP to static, and my pool info.
865  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Monetising a VPS on: May 14, 2016, 07:50:46 PM
I have a subscription to a particular service that also grants me free credits to their cloud platform i.e. I can fire up a fairly powerful VPS at no extra cost. I have no practical use for that element of the subscription and was wondering if anyone could make any recommendations on how to monetise it?

I'm wondering if there are any up and coming altcoins which are still at the stage where it is profitable to do CPU based mining?

Thanks in advance

The time of VPS mining is far gone.  It was a fun time but was fast as so many threw up VPS's mining CPU coins.  You will be able to mine a little cpu coins.... but it is going to be such a small amount most don't do it.

Also what platform are you using?  Some of the "bargain" vps like digital ocean tend to ban high CPU usage users (ie miners) as they truly want customers who pay for more then what they use.
866  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to make money on bitcointalk without campaigns on: May 14, 2016, 07:47:45 PM
My name's Luan, I'm ranked as member and I was banished from YoBit campaign, any other ways to earn money from the forum?

There really are not a ton of way's to make money on this site that are passive like  a signature campaign.   People chances are will keep mentioning services as it's one of the few other way's on forum.   There are referrals.... but that is a pretty tough game.

I would suggest working on post quality - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=727696;sa=showPosts .  You have a lot of tiny posts that are like a sentence long that makes it look like post farming.

Do you have any skills that are selllable on a forum like this?  The forum truly is not a get rich scheme as some think it is sometimes.
867  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if all bitcoin nodes went down. on: May 14, 2016, 07:43:39 PM
There are total 6798 bitcoin nodes. So, if all them went down or only 1 of them is alive then what will happen  Huh

People want to find a "dooms day" idea that scares people.   There are some people very committed to BTC where this will never happen.  Lets say it looks like it is in danger and nodes are dropping for some reason... the community will start more nodes.

Heck people could do it on a RPI and those could be deployed pretty easy, at little electrical cost.   And if your like me you have more internet (100 mbps) then you know what to do with  anyways.
868  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread May 11 to May 24? picks are closed!!.... prize = 0.40 btc on: May 14, 2016, 07:27:06 PM
Bitwisdom still looks like it is going to hurt:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    194,254,820,283
Estimated Next Difficulty:    209,522,633,526 (+7.86%)
Adjust time:    After 1517 Blocks, About 10.4 days
Hashrate(?):    1,345,088,112 GH/s

Price remains pretty even at 455.  Still not getting into 460's this period.  Hopefully that changes.
869  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: how to scrap old miners (PCB, regulators, etc) on: May 14, 2016, 02:11:59 AM
I got a bunch of old KNC Jupiters and wondering the same thing.

However I doubt I will get much for the aluminum and copper heatsinks or the PCB boards. I think if you go to a scrap yard and donate a 2 ton car they give you $100 but a few grams won't be worth much.

most places give $200+ and will even tow your car, and they make $200-300 on scrap metal, plus any parts they think will scrap for resale. but thats mpainted metal, mised with oil, dirt, rust, glass, fabric, etc.

im seeing scrap value of aluminum to range $0.40-0.50 at most recyclers depending on quality, and anything from $1-$2 for a pound of PCB (mainly for copper content). for an S1 you might be looking at $5 scrap value. I think the PCBs could be potentially sold for collectors though on their own for $5 each, or to someone who is interested in specific regulators that cost $3-5 otherwise and tere are a few per hash board.

I had good luck on Craigslist or Kijiji getting rid of my unprofitable miners, maybe try that.

Also parting it out possibly for those still using them that want replacements.   You might be able to find them on the board here or ebay.   But I would try this before completely scrapping it.

I have only had to part one miner out was a C1 and I did decent considering, but it did have a lot of parts.   Old miners like the dragon's and A1's I'm sure there are some who would buy boards at decent price.

And if you are lucky craigslist as no shipping so really better on heavy old miners like A1's.  But if your like me in middle of no where CL is not so good for this.

Hands On with the AntMiner S7 With One Fan

0) General information
1) Unpacking
2) The Miner
3) Voiding Warranties
4) Running the miner
5) Conclusion
6) How to purchase

0) General Information
The Bitmain S7 has become the dominate miner in the current generation of miners.  It has evolved over it's many batches to become what it currently is today.  Since batch 8 they have stuck with the same familiar frequency and chip combo that consistently hits it's 4.73 TH mark.   There was a recent batch though of the Bitmain S7 that had one fan, which is a change from it's two fan predecessors.

I did get one of theses Bitmain S7 with one fan for the purpose of documenting it.  I will differ from other threads by opening up the miner, please note this does void warranties doing this.   After this I will be running it and putting it through it's paces in my mining area in the mid-west summer.  This will be documented in this thread.

Below you will see the S7 with one fan has the same specs as batch 8 and above with the obvious difference of the "1x" on fan specification now. I did open the front fan and it is a Delta QFR1212GHE that is a 6000 RPM fan ( http://s100.photobucket.com/user/notlist3d/media/S7-F1/DSC_4373_zpsu1zqai08.jpg.html )

Specifications:
1. Hash Rate: 4.73 TH/s ±5%
2. Power Consumption: 1293W + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25C ambient temp)
3. Power Efficiency: 0.25 J/GH + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25°C ambient temp)
4. Rated Voltage: 11.60 ~13.00V
5. Chip quantity per unit: 135x BM1385
6. Dimensions: 301mm(L)*123mm(W)*155mm(H)
7. Cooling: 1x 12038 fan
8. Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 40 °C
9. Network Connection: Ethernet
10. Default Frequency: 700M

1) Unpacking
It is worth noting this miner was ordered from the Bitmain Warranty site that is located within the US.  This lead for very quick shipping and no customs wait.  So it was a very positive experience on shipping. The miner made it without any trouble.  Below is a picture of the miner out of the box showing how it safely arrived.

2) The Miner
Below are images to showcase the miner.

3) Voiding Warranties
With this one fan version I had not seen a ton of pictures with it fully open.   My curiosity got the better of me and you will get to see it opened up as shown below.  In the first set you will see the opening of the miner and the actual hashing boards.  In the second set you will see the difference between the 2 fan and 1 fan back.

4) Running the miner
As usual very easy to set up and get running if you are familiar with the AntMiner GUI.  I did change network settings to set up a static IP, and setup my pool information. Below you can see the S7 hashing away after setup.

Below shows the miner actually mining:

5) Conclusion
So far the S7 with one fan has worked as expected. The install was like any other S7, and pretty easy for my setup.  PSU was fast and simple using the the APW3-12-1600. And setup with Bitmain's familiar GUI on setup is about as easy as it gets.

I will admit I was a little skeptical at first when I heard one fan, but so far all things look like it is working very well.  And to it's credit it is a nice fan being the Delta QFR1212GHE. It seems to be working well without any issues with only one fan.  I will continue to update this as I run it more and as summer heats up more.

It was my first order from Bitmain Warranty.  I would say it was a very positive experience that I have already mentioned with location in US the very quick shipping.  Also some might like the option of purchasing an extended warranty of up to 180 days (90 more then standard). Also I thought it was very notable that with ordering with them on the warranty paperwork included you don't go through normal retail for warranty, but actually have a phone number where you can call and talk to a person about any warranty work.

6) How to purchase
This miner was purchased from Bitmain Warranty: https://bitmainwarranty.com/shop/products/us/antminers71fanus/
Currently they don't have a batch with the S7 with one fan but there is of course the standard site: https://enshop.bitmain.com/product.htm

Please don't bash others, or try to turn into a ROI/other debate.  Yes things such as ROI and other topics have a valid point, but this thread is to show the hardware
873  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: hash rate problem on: May 13, 2016, 09:06:01 PM
hello everyone!

I have a laptop amd radeon hd 8600/8700m card and i have 100kh/s speed for litecoin mining

Is it normal?
thank you

You are wasting your time with a laptop, it is not really meant to mine and if you ruin the GPU you will be very sad.  You will see a LOT of people that do GPU mining use open air as cooling is needed.  I never recommend mining on a laptop.

And also litecoin is now mined by asics so mining LTC with a GPU is a bad idea in itself.   But if you really want to GPU mine look at desktop's and Ether.
874  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How Do I Get 0.0023 to 0.01 BTC Per Day on: May 13, 2016, 09:02:04 PM
Theres many forms that offer what youre asking, but it wont be in btc.

You can take up with 99designs for example and land winning gigs on there, or fiverr that meets your quote. Now obviously these places are already well known, so your approach has to be different then most people.

Its your creative approach which will determine how far you will get.

I have to point out that i have no credit card; im aware of such systems but i cannot use them because i have no way to recieve the payment be it credit card, paypal or american express etc. So i have to find a way that has bitcoin as a payout system or a way that i will get bitcoin in the end.

Jobs and services on the forum are normally in bitcoin.  So look at services section here.  You should not be receiving payments via credit card.... if anyone asks for your CC info to pay you most likely it's a scam I would think.  And paypal is not used to much on the forums here due to it can be abused with digital goods easily sadly.

But again you would need a service or something to sell to land that job.
875  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How earn 1BTC a year? on: May 13, 2016, 08:59:14 PM
If you are active participant in campaign and trading then you can earn this amount very easily, and if you have other skills then you can also earn by offering services which can be an added advantage.

no need to use a lot of ways, trading enough to make it easy to get 1 BTC in one month, but of course you must have high capital and also quite professional in trade Smiley

You can start trading even with a small capital at initial stage when you are new to it as even if you loose it won't affect much, and once you get experience you can start with high amount.

if you have a small capital, it is better to try trading altcoins, because you can feel the large profits with a small capital Smiley

There are a lot of pump/dump altcoins that end up being worth not a whole lot.  So I would not make someone new think it's all large profit's, as there are a lot of losses to.   Holding BTC is the best long term bet but it does tend to go up slower then alt coins, but you get security of not going to total crap.

So there can be upside to some altcoins (Ether right now has quite the following).  But other altcoins will be pump/dump and be worth pretty much nothing.  So don't count on this as a sure bet to get 1 BTC in a year.  It's honestly more of a gamble.

I don't know I was wondering the same thing just bought a SF28 on eBay for $138.50, just wondering if people still use them and if they have any issues that can be fixed or any tweaks to help the run better. Also what kind of power supply is the best and what type of power connectors plugs fit the FS28 just won auction today and need to get a power supply.

Please keep in mind this guide is dated at this point (around 2 years old).   To be able to run it you will need to search about authorization fix.  When I owned one it did not have to do this.

Before purchasing one of these make sure to get current info.  I honestly was suprised to see this bumped up, I did not think many would still be buying this miner

same here i had this thread set to notify.. was like hmmm..   Be something good for him to get his feet wet.. but if its not authorized he is screwed.. and im not sure that there is anyone left to do it.. I can look back and see but the guy that did mine no longer has a qq chat.. so it appears he setup just for this..

The authorization fix was kinda a eye opening experience.  The worst thing I had with this miner was the longer it ran it seemed to drop in hashrate.  It luckily was something easy to fix with a old school batch file.

I have not kept current on authorization fix.  But anyone else reading this thread make sure you can fix this before buying one or that they have a fix when selling to you.  If not you have a paperweight.  And there may be some great way to get it done now, I just again have not kept current with it and when I owned it there was no issues about it back then.
877  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Remotely monitoring mining equipment on: May 13, 2016, 08:44:16 PM
thats how i monitor mine, teamviewer on a spare pc. i dont leave anything logged in though. i dont even leave the ips as a favorite or history. i log in via my phone, type the ip, log in, view what i need. then close it all down.

honestly unless you have recently changed something or the weather is changing and you have them in a garage. watch them of a a few days and then call it good and not worry about them. i used to watch mine mulitple times a day and worry about a 1-2 degree C change. Now i just leave them be and check on them once a week, mainly to see if the high share has changed at all.

To be honest I JUST started mining, this machine has been running for 20 hours so far; I'm just incredibly interested in temps since this is new to me. Im happy to hear that you were able to do what I was speculating at but why are you so worried about IP history?

if someone hacks the machine then they have access to the miner.. which if left logged into they can change/screw with the miner itself. change firmware/mining address or just turn the miner into a paper weight by flashing the wrong firmware.

i also run a full node off the box pointed at kano.is

I doubt most will be trying to destory miners.  I would guess most "bad guys" would be wanting to change to mining for them or try to infect machine to get any wallet info they can.

That said I personally use teamviewer for my GPU machines and also let's me access my asics when I'm away from home.  It's always worked great for me and have not been compromised.  I do not have wallets on any of these machines though.

879  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: $10,000-15,000 rig on: May 13, 2016, 08:34:21 PM
Since April first I have built several 6 GPU rigs that mine ETH at 120 MH/s using power efficient (1100 watts total draw) R9-380's. Total cost per rig was just under $1700, including the custom frames & USB risers, labor is about 2 hours per rig at this point for everything, and I can build one in under an hour now.  I've sold two on Ebay so far at $2700 + shipping each. I spent another $500 on shelves and cooling, as I needed big barrel fans and a sun awning outside my garage door. to keep the afternoon sun off the power supplies and to push the heat out and keep the rain out.

Formula = Build rig, burn in and test (mining ETH) sell rig = instant ROI, build another rig. I still have 4 custom rig frames in my garage and have also sold a couple of them on ebay as Kada clones that I can build for half of what Mintcell charges.

I actually prefer gpu mining over asic mining.

Of course you need a coin that turns profit and so far eth coin is doing this.
Gpu rigs need more baby sitting then asics but I have high power costs and only Eth coins turn a very good profit at my power costs. I have the solar array joint venture with buysolar and that is all ASIC since it is pretty much maintaince free.

The gpu rigs need to be checked two times a day and two of mine seem to crash 1 time a day.
The other two work about six to eight days then crash.

Why do I have four rigs all with just two cards? All of these will be sold to people I know.
I did this with all my btc gpu rigs.
The day a rig pays for itself mining I sell it to a friend at 1/2 price.
So a 1000 dollar rig makes about 500 profit.
The rigs have

 two r9 390 gpus
A 500 gb sss
A corsair carbide case
A DVD- burner
A quality psu seasonic 850 gold (got a good deal)
Windows 7 pro with upgrade to 10 option
Quality mobos
Good cpus i5 6500t or i5 6600k

It is about a 1500 usd build, but I get a lot of vendor discounts and can do the build for 1000-1100

The only thing that worries me on investing heavliy on it is currently ether is pretty much what everyone mines.  It's all that people seem to be making decent profit.  But it is growing pretty rapid - https://etherscan.io/charts/difficulty

Now ether could go up in value make it fine.   Or difficulty goes up more and profit goes down.  I am dabbling in it as GPU mining has been fun.  But I personally would not spend the 15k mentioned all on betting on ether.
