Did we get DDoSed and then Tycho'd without knowing it?
I always know about it.

I got a question about security: how safe is my password? Let's imagine someone manages to steal your DB or whatever stores the user passwords. How difficult would be for that person to crack my password which looks like: TIzWU92Fn43K8CmYVclq
Looks secure enough to me.

Just a couple of years ago 8-chars passwords were considered safe enough. But currently 8 alphanumeric characters can be bruteforced locally with just a single PC in a 2-3 days, so 8 chars is not safe against local search (if someone gets the hash and salt).

Getting lots of:
   500 Internal Server Error
when trying to view https://deepbit.net/account.  I'll guess it's more fallout from DDoS?
No, it was anti-ddos fault, already fixed.
864  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: July 10, 2011, 09:06:38 AM
Tycho, is this due to the varying DDoS on the website that is going on, or is there another issue. Prior to this start of the DDoS, my linux clients were the highest producing Mhash/sec and they are essentially reduced in effectiveness to 30%
The LP issue may be caused not by DDoS. Some versions of Ufasoft miner are trying to use LP incorrectly, thus we had to disable LP for Ufasoft miner at the pool side.
what version? and if its a older version is it possible to just disable the older one?
Yes, if the problem version could be identified I could make a point of using a different version.  I have .13, .14 and .16 on hand.  I've been using 0.16 lately.
No, it's the newer versions, at least two of them.

I tried to explain the correct behavior to ufasoft's author, but it's still not fixed yet. I'll try to write one more message to him :)

Any guesses why my auto-payment (5.0 BTC) sent on 7/3/2011 has yet to be in my wallet?

Longest an auto-pay has taken previously was about 2 days.
Does blockexporer shows it or not ?
If not, do you see this transaction in the queue at http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin ?

If you don't see it at both sites, PM me your login name or bitcoin address, but this would be very strange.
866  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: July 10, 2011, 09:02:05 AM
Just wanted to let you know the automatic payment isnt working. I was at .19 and set it to .25 btc. Im at .29 now and nothing has been sent.  :-\
Automatic payment is triggered after 24 hours since last one.
867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Deepbit taking forever to payout for anybody else? on: July 10, 2011, 08:55:42 AM
I initiated a payout at 06.07.2011 17:37 server time, it is now 06.07.2011 23:59:23.  I see the payout on the payments page, but it has not even showed up as unconfirmed in my client.
There is no fixed "server time", you can select any timezone in your advanced settings. Default is UTC(GMT).

If you see your transaction on the payments page, then you shouldn't worry - it WILL be delivered.
I don't know about any case when it wasn't. Sometimes after server restarts or other affecting events some payout chains are not included by our pool and it takes up to a few hours more to confirm. But it won't be lost.
868  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: URGENT: Trying to reset deepbit password but not getting confirmation email on: July 10, 2011, 08:39:41 AM
At this moment I don't have any unanswered e-mails.

If you use @hotmail.com, add "no-reply@deepbit.net" to your Contacts and request the confirmation again.
If you use @gmail.com or other google mailbox, check your "Spam" folder at the Gmail site.
If you use any Yahoo mail service, tell me your new bitcoin address (or just a half of it) and I'll send you the link manually.

Tycho can you say something about the downtimes in the last hours? Happens often that I can't connect to the deepbit homepage.
Still DDoS attacks?
Yes, we had one yesterday and two today, but only part of users was affected this time.

The estimated difficulty was to be around 1.59M and we ended up with 1.56M
It is hard to say for sure how much these attacks effected the retarget, but i think they did somewhat.
That's just ~1.886% change and it may be caused by another factors.
I can estimate that you would have to block all pools and solo miners for more than 6 hours completely to make a 2% change if the hashrate is not growing.
872  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: July 09, 2011, 03:40:15 PM
Btw, would it be realistic to think that these attacks could also exist because people want miners to go offline in order to drastically decrease the difficulty for a week?
I don't think that DDoS can decrease next difficulty at all.
Even in cause of powerful attack most users will just switch to another pool. The total network hashrate is not affected.
873  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: July 09, 2011, 03:34:10 PM
Tycho, is there anything reliable that you can say about down-times due to ddos- or dns-attacks?
Because I really like your service over all other pools I have tried but I'm tired of checking my hashrate every 20minutes just to see if deepbit is down again or not.
Is there any statement possible at which point the servers will be stable again?
Our service was partially unavailable due to DDoS attack for about 30 minutes.
About one half of users were affected.
874  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: July 08, 2011, 10:54:15 PM
I got a question regarding the Difficulty History section (and please forgive me if this has already been answered before).  Why do some difficulty numbers have negative numbers next to them when they're clearly higher than the preceding number?
This a deviation percentage.
If it says -3%, this means that during given difficulty span pool's blocks were on average 3% easier (more profit to proportional users).
875  Local / Майнеры / Re: [~2500 GH/s] DeepBit.net - первый в мире русский горнодобывающ on: July 08, 2011, 08:58:46 PM

876  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: July 08, 2011, 05:26:03 PM
Is the statistics page not reporting correctly... And therefore my payout also reporting incorrectly?  The numbers make no sense that I see under my account.  My miners are working fine and I reset the share counts on the account page and it seems fine but the stats page definitely has issues for my account.
Can you be more specific please ?
What exactly is wrong on the stats page ? What is your login name ? (You can send it to me via PM or just post here a part of your bitcoin address).
May be you are refering to not seeing PPS rewards in the table ?
877  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: DeepBit pool thread for newbies on: July 08, 2011, 05:04:28 AM
I recently became a member on deepbit's website and now I am stuck. I have my own personal wallet on my computer and one online also. I currently use GUIMiner. I do not believe I have the option to GPU Mine, I have a Compaq laptop, probably not the greatest. I have never mined before and know i'm doing something wrong. I created a worker: ~~~~~~~@gmail.com_0 and password 123 and set that up in GUIMiner the same way and selected DeepBit from the pull down menu. The console gives me this message: Running command: poclbm.exe --user=~~~~~~~~~~@gmail.com_0 --pass=123 -o deepbit.net -p 8332 -d0 --verbose
Listener for "Default" started
What's the problem ?
If you are mining on your notebook PC then it may be a VERY slow GPU, so you have to mine for tens of minutes or even more to get your first share.

We had a DDoS issue, sorry.
Mining should work better now.

Is the pool still down?
As your signature says - no :)
Or there should be much higher hashrate ?
880  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~5000 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: July 07, 2011, 07:36:17 PM
What's the update on the DDoS?
A lot of my miners seem to have settled in at Deepbit, but I can't access the website. Not a good combo.
Your mining is not wasted, it's accounted correctly.
