I doubt these floods are even from a botnet, these days DNS Amplification attacks are just about impossible to stop..
Its not the pool operators fault the pool is going down, I would say he is doing a damn good job keeping it up through this bullshit.
Last time my servers were getting attacked they were taking 20Gbps+ DNS amplified attacks... smoked them right offline. Instantly nullrouted.

Is the statistics page not reporting correctly... And therefore my payout also reporting incorrectly?  The numbers make no sense that I see under my account.  My miners are working fine and I reset the share counts on the account page and it seems fine but the stats page definitely has issues for my account.

Can you be more specific please ?
What exactly is wrong on the stats page ? What is your login name ? (You can send it to me via PM or just post here a part of your bitcoin address).
May be you are refering to not seeing PPS rewards in the table ?

My apologies... I was out when I noticed the low payout and small amount of shares.  When I VPN'd into my machines from my phone everything seemed ok with my miners so I naturally thought maybe there was a reporting issue.  But since my post I have been getting my typical amount of shares.  I may have had connection issues before or something but the last three hours have been good.

The address I use for payout is 1zuxczb1csDEgCpb2jMxn1cCZswHh1rHa.

Sorry I did not get back to you sooner but I just got home. Thanks for looking into it and great work on the pool considering everything that has been going on.

I got a question regarding the Difficulty History section (and please forgive me if this has already been answered before).  Why do some difficulty numbers have negative numbers next to them when they're clearly higher than the preceding number?

This a deviation percentage.
If it says -3%, this means that during given difficulty span pool's blocks were on average 3% easier (more profit to proportional users).

Pool down

Seems to have gone down a little bit ago.  All my miners went idle with connects, disconnects, but no work no matter the state.

Tycho, is there anything reliable that you can say about down-times due to ddos- or dns-attacks?
Because I really like your service over all other pools I have tried but I'm tired of checking my hashrate every 20minutes just to see if deepbit is down again or not.
Is there any statement possible at which point the servers will be stable again?

He is doing the best he can I am sure.
Some floods are quite simply not possible to stop, block, or do anything other than nullroute the IP (taking the site offline).

I am impressed that when I see them knock deepbit.net offline, the pool still accepts our work, and still records it.

He's done a great job keeping everything working, and you guys should try to understand whats involved here, rather then just asking when it will be fixed.

There is no problem to 'fix', and I don't expect the DDOSings to continue for long.
It was probably some looser either trying to stop the difficulty from increasing much, or trying to stop Tycho from having +50% of the hashrate.

All in all my workers only lost an hour in the last few days... That's not a big deal at all.

How could that possibly be answered?  Depends on the attack, the attacker and how difficult it is put up a defense against it.  Don't for a second think that other pools don't go down from attacks, because they do and none are as resilient and stable as Deepbit.

This is exactly how I think, I'm not accusing Tycho for these problems. I'm sure he is doing the best he can.

Btw, would it be realistic to think that these attacks could also exist because people want miners to go offline in order to drastically decrease the difficulty for a week?

Our service was partially unavailable due to DDoS attack for about 30 minutes.
About one half of users were affected.
