861  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: who is this unknown "20% of the network?? on: August 27, 2013, 12:55:11 AM
How many times is this going to come up. Unknown is all unidentified entities. If you solo mine, you are Unknown. If you have a private pool for you and your friends, you are Unknown. It is not one person or group, although some of the people in Unknown may be large miners.
862  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Ghash.io up to 75TH/s - all bitfury (supposedly). Bitfury >=16% of the network? on: August 27, 2013, 12:51:12 AM
i think it is people that bought bitfury chips and came up with their own hardware. that is my take on what i've read.
863  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why is the difficulty sky rocking on: August 27, 2013, 12:39:13 AM
If you're looking to get into mining, this is one of the basic things you need to know.  The hardware you buy to mine bitcoins will earn less and less everyday.  It's just part of the system.  You have to upgrade regularly to keep pace.

The miners will earn less but not every day.  Bitcoin re-calculates it's difficulty every 2016 blocks.  This is usually around 14 days but has been a few days earlier of late.

not necessarily true. If the hashrate goes up, yes more Blocks will be found than should be, but your share of the pie will go down proportionately. The difficulty just tries to compensate for the current condition where blocks are being found too quick.
864  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Slush's Stratum Proxy Questions on: August 27, 2013, 12:29:34 AM
Of course nothing ever goes simple, anyone have a clue for this;

~/slush0-stratum-mining-proxy-52e6fd2$ ./mining_proxy.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./mining_proxy.py", line 49, in <module>
    from stratum import settings
ImportError: No module named stratum
 Huh

Well, i managed to make this go away, how? by rerunning the two comands for installing this. I hate when this happens. So now i'm fighting with making the computer's ip fixed. i found a few howto's on google, but no joy yet. i have a couple more to try tomorrow. This is on ubuntu 12.04 lts.
865  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Do we want to continue to allow varrious vendor hate in here? on: August 27, 2013, 12:22:03 AM
TL;DNR

Firstly, this is the Custom Hardware Forum, I envision seeing posts about people modding hardware, or developing their own. Once something is in production, it is no longer Custom.

Secondly, Manufacturers are not Hardware. I expect to see discussions about how the hardware works, or doesn't work. etc.

if there isn't already someplace to complain about manufacturers/resellers, make one?

Thirdly, i really hate seeing the same people saying effectively the same things in multiple threads. I'd pick one to leave open, make the last post in the others a reference to the open one and then lock them.

considering how little power ASICs use, the little guys will only get shut out if we run out of decimal places. you may end up mining for dust, but you'll still be able to mine.

I wonder how they decide which color to make the Erupters. Mine are mostly Black & Red. out of 30, i have 4 Gold ones and 1 Silver one. I think they should make new ones Blue.

They must have heard me! I want Blue ones!!!!
869  Bitcoin / Hardware / Stupid Hardware Manufacturers... on: August 26, 2013, 08:43:13 PM
Don't they realize that every refund that they deny not only alienates their customer base, but denies them the opportunity to sell that item to someone else joining the end of the queue? possibly for more money than the original purchase? Do they really believe that their equipment will become obsolete before they can sell it all out?

As long as our good luck is someone else's bad luck, it won't affect difficulty.
871  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Protecting the blockchain as an art on: August 26, 2013, 12:58:24 AM
I got a couple of these, and wondered if the seller modded them. heh. they were black, but the bevel was metallic. i also noticed the cert.s bottom right. They look good, but a functional imporvement would have been more impressive. Shocked
872  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Slush's Stratum Proxy Questions on: August 25, 2013, 04:38:20 PM
Thank's for the reply. Yes, i just acquired an ASICminer Blade which is why i'm asking. Smiley

just as an aside, GLD is the stockmarket symbol for a Gold based ETF. Confusion factor or copyright infringement?

874  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Slush's Stratum Proxy Questions on: August 25, 2013, 12:56:54 AM
How much of a load does this put on the CPU? Is it light enough to co-host on a rig running cgminer with USB Erupters? What is important to this program? Is it RAM intensive? Disk intensive? I/O intensive? Can it run well on a 12 year old laptop running win XP.

I'm just trying wrap my head around this. Is Python interpreted or compiled? never used Python.
875  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How does a new person break into bitcoin mining? on: August 25, 2013, 12:34:22 AM
The only way to get into Bitcoin mining now is as a HOBBY. ROI isn't likely. That being said, ASICminer USB Block Erupters are an easy, expensive way to get started. ASICminer Blades are a little less expensive but cost more over all. GPUs seem to be acient history.  everything else seems to be a dream. Cry

877  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [130'000 GH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Servers on: August 24, 2013, 01:44:40 AM
The support page for Block Erupters has been updated with new links to bfgminer after Luke-Jr's previous server went offline.  If you were having problems downloading the Win32/Win64 binaries, they should work now.

On that page as well can you include the info on the usb hubs or at the very least a link to the post about em? My hub died and I spent a good chunk of time hunting it down again.
Thanks!

878  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Which exchange is providing liquidity for miners? on: August 23, 2013, 02:50:45 PM
I'm enjoying CampBX. I can withdraw $1000/day and see the money clear my bank in about 2-3 days (through Dwolla for only $.25).
Yeah, you can save on fees that way, but I'm afraid of DHS taking that account too.  I don't want to get caught standing when the music stops.  Therefore I use Coinbase.  What's a couple bucks for the piece of mind and straight to your bank account.

I assume you're in the U.S.  Keep track of your "earnings" as it may be considered capital gains profits and the IRS will want their unconstitutional cut.  Or you can become another political prisoner.  Just make sure an undisclosed friend is monitoring your mining hardware while you're in a cage.  LOL!  I think about this too much.

that is earnings minus expenses.  Tongue
879  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Latest update from the COO, Josh Zerlan, of BF Labs Inc. on 65nm-based miners. on: August 23, 2013, 02:45:10 PM
Phinnaeus Gage please put this kind of post in the "Scam accusation" section.

This become boring...days after days...after days you pollute the "Custom Hardware" section  Angry
It will be OK if no "Scam accusation" section was available.

But this is not the case.

I'm going to report every post that don't fit this section...i'm bored with this "scam everywhere" threads

Yeah, what he said, besides, production hardware isn't custom.

i would get you one but i dont get my check until 1 week from now, and it would be my first time shipping things internationally :B

edit: i can get it on newegg for 28.18 with 3 day business shipping, not sure how much it would cost to ship to aussie from florida

if you dont get it resolved by the time i have some money, i dont mind buying you one for btc worth the same as its price 28.18+ w/e shipping costs (would be cool if you gave me instructions on shipping stuff too Cheesy)

Go to USPS. they will help you do International shipping. basically, it is just one short from to fill out. easy really. just watch cost, go cheapest way or it might cost more than what you are sending.
