8622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DCR] Decred - Community Governance | Bitcoin Devs | Lightning Network on: October 28, 2017, 06:58:05 AM
Decred supporters, I am thinking of investing in an altcoin but I still do not know what. I have thought about Monero, Ethereum Classic and now Decred. But first let me tell you that what I am looking for is a team of outstanding developers.

Please rate the Decred developers from 1 to 10 if the Bitcoin Core developers = 10 and shitcoin scammers = 1.

There isn't too much difference between the Bitcoin Core developers and the Decred developers technical abilities and coding skills as once they were the same team:

"The main Decred development group started as the Bitcoin developers who develop btcsuite, a widely respected Bitcoin implementation in Go that has been used by several high-profile projects including, but not limited to, BitGo, Factom, Ethereum, and the Lightning Network. Several of Decred's developers have also been contributors to the core of OpenBSD" - From the announcement

If you give 10 to the Bitcoin Core developers, then Decred's developers at least 10 as well, especially now, when we can see the division between Bitcoin Core and Segwit2X. It won't happen with Decred due to the governance system.

Really, a 10? That is hard to believe. Which names in their team have worked on Bitcoin? I believe they were only contributors and they were not part of the team of core developers.

OP, for $500 it would be better for you to buy Bitcoin with all that, forget about it, and look for a source of income so you can keep buying more. You cannot escape hard work if you want to make a good amount of money.
8625  Economy / Speculation / Re: 5 Reasons Why Bitcoin Price is Not Tulip Mania: Nasdaq.com on: October 27, 2017, 05:53:20 AM
I will give it one reason, utility. Bitcoin is very useful for doing transactions that you want to do outside the financial system. If you know how to use Bitcoin, it can still be untraceable and private.

It is also very useful for moving your money across borders when you travel. I believe the limit you can bring with you is $10,000 if you enter another country. With Bitcoin, you can move millions with you if you want. All you need is internet access.
8626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: will there be further forks to bitcoin? on: October 27, 2017, 05:45:36 AM
As long as this is profitable for people to do this, they will continue doing this. Expect to see Bitcoin Platinum or Bitcoin Lite or Bitcoin Supreme soon. A lot of developers wants a piece of the pie and the only way for them to get some, will be to fork Bitcoin into one of these Alt coins.

SegWit2x will be the next fork in November, but this one is different. This one is a hostile takeover attempt, not just a opportunistic attempt to create a Alt coin to profit from the fork. They want to control Bitcoin. ^grrrrrr^

But will the exchanges keep honoring them? What if the developers behind a fork are the same scammers who have been making pump and dumps and other shitcoins?

It has to end somehow and the exchanges can help by not listing the forked chain.

BTG, premined, bounty for replay protection, and if it survives with a decent valuation we will see a lot of forks/airdrops in the future. Bitcoin forks would be the new ICOs, premine, distribute free coins, free money, get instant valuation + user base.

Not only that. The forks will also be taking advantage of using the "Bitcoin brand". This concern has been raised by some because massive confusion might happen among the people who are new to Bitcoin.

Quote
It is highly unlikely that any major exchange would support such forks/airdrops, but you never know if there is a high demand, they might, but yeah you would always have exchanges like YoBit.

Yes, the excuse exchanges use is "let the market decide".
8627  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What to do for Nov 2017 hard fork. on: October 27, 2017, 05:32:43 AM
Ok so there is an "opt in" replay protection, meaning users can choose if they want it or not, am I right?

If I am, then what was the reason for them to go on this course instead of having one like what Bitcoin Cash did?
Because the "adepts" think that s2x is "true bitcoin" and does not need changing more things from original code

Then the Segwit2x "adepts" thinking are very open to disagreement because the real "adepts", in my opinion, are the Core developers. But follow what and who you want and let us each hope for the best. Good luck.
8628  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I am a Bitcoin Maximalist. But suggest me an altcoin to buy and hold on: October 26, 2017, 06:20:27 AM
I do believe that sooner or later the coins that are fully anonymous/untraceable will have the success.
Monero is already big, but it's far from its potential.
Aeon is a worthy follower imho.

But really, there are a lot of good coins coins nowadays (along with 100x more shitcoins, I know), so you'll have to do some research on most coins people suggest in this kind of threads.

Yes I already have Monero in my list, together with Ethereum Classic. I have not done any exploration in Aeon, but I heard it has one developer only. That is not very reassuring in my opinion.

Everyone, what about Decred? I heard good things and market capitalization is still low.

Boy, if we get another 5 boom busts cycles of these magnitudes count me in! Grin

In all seriousness though, of course fiat trapped in Bitcoin during a bear market could be better invested elsewhere. But the same goes for fiat stuck in stocks and gold. Bonds too, in their own way. Problem being, you never know when a bear market hits and how long it will last.

But why would you be willing to hold an asset that is going through a bear market? It would be better to do nothing an wait for the price to go down and then buy.

Maybe it is better to find another cryptocurrency that is negatively correlated with Bitcoin and buy some of that to "hedge your bets" as they say.

Why would you sell at the bottom?

Why would you assume that I would hold anything in a bear market? I have nothing to sell. My advice has always been to buy the dip. But it only works because Bitcoin is in a bull market.

Quote
The problem with bear markets -- as with bull markets -- is that you don't know whether you're currently living through one until it's much too late. And once you realize you're in a bear market, there's no telling how long it will last or how far down it will go. Maybe it's just me, but I don't have much confidence in my ability to time the market. Of course it always looks easy in hindsight though.

The problem with using alts for hedging BTC is that so far none of the alts have shown negative correlation to it. If you look at it historically, there've been some short-term pumps here and there, but none of the alts look viable for hedging. Most alts have been hit stronger by bear markets than BTC. The only alt that showed some decoupling of BTC's bear market was ETH, but even ETH seems to follow BTC now.

I agree. But hopefully we might have one soon. The market for cryptocurrencies is still very "young".

Good luck. After Poloniex added ETC in the ETH/ETC split last year, it seems like exchanges agreed to put profit first, with no regard for splitting a coin's community. Bitfinex doesn't care these days; they'll add any scamcoin that they think will make them money.

Did you see the way Bitcoin Gold was handled by the exchanges? We don't even know if BTG exists yet, and Bitfinex and others are allowing trading of the coin on their exchanges. Ridiculous. What if the coin doesn't even get launched?

Who is giving these guys legal advice?! Roll Eyes

Ethereum Classic and Ethereum's situation is different from Bitcoin and BTG. The exchanges had the right to give the ETC to its supporters because the chain still had a few miners supporting it. For your information it was Ethereum who did a hard fork to make it look like the DAO hack never happened while Ethereum Classic's supporters wanted the chain to remain immutable.
8632  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What to do for Nov 2017 hard fork. on: October 26, 2017, 05:37:40 AM
Segwit2x/btc1 does not have replay protection.
It does.

Does it have one now? There was a controversy surrounding it and it was discussed among Bitcoin's developers that it should have replay protection because it does not have one.

Please provide us with the correct information, because as far as I know there is no replay protection because Jeff Garzik's proposal for Segwit2x/btc1 is as an upgrade to Bitcoin, not a fork.
8633  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I am a Bitcoin Maximalist. But suggest me an altcoin to buy and hold on: October 25, 2017, 06:38:10 AM
Vertcoin might appeal to you. POW, with a focus on maintaining decentralization, ASIC resistant, and organic growth. A huge and active community with lots of optimism, and what seem to be very good developers. And it has some history to it. No ICOs, no bells and whistles, just an honest crypto that solves some of the issues plaguing bitcoin.

I like it. I also like the willingness of the developers to change their mining algorithm if there is a threat of Asics being developed. It also has a decent sized community from checking the amount of subscribers on Reddit.

Development is continuous and hash rate is also increasing. The future looks good for this coin. But I cannot invest in it anymore because the price has already been pumped.

Give me more suggestions.
8634  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: how control my emotion?? on: October 25, 2017, 06:15:06 AM
I am starting trading some month ago.Bought some alta coin but now all alta coin are down and i donot understad what can i do?I get a big lose if i sell this.So how control my mind ? Cry Cry
Relax buddy, because basically if there is a decrease then there will be a rise later, you should hold it so it will not disappear, never waver or panic selling because it's an emotion. I also hold some altcoin and the price goes down continuously, but I do not sell it because I'm sure the price will return to normal and go up. it just takes time, we never know when the price can go back up.

This is now the only advice applicable for the OP. I also suggest not to keep looking at the price and forget about Altacoin for now. You are what we call a "bag holder".

Why did you invest in Altacoin in the first place?

8635  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What to do for Nov 2017 hard fork. on: October 25, 2017, 06:07:26 AM
OP be very careful. This fork is not like Bitcoin Cash which the developers have included replay protection in the code. Segwit2x/btc1 does not have replay protection. The best move is to do nothing during and after the fork, and wait for some of the developers to make the tools and instructions on how to "split" your coins safely.

If you want to take the risk, store some of your coins in an exchange who already announced that they will honor B2X for your BTC.

Why are so many afraid of a long bear market?

Sure, BTC may lose value over a prolonged timeframe, but how is that different from, say, gold losing value or stock market indizes? Even with traditional assets you have to be prepared to potentially hold them for 5-10 years in case of prolonged market losses. It's not like BTC's fundamentals change just because its market price stops growing for while.

Markets boom and markets bust. It's the cycle of life ˜ ˜ ˜

For some investors the fiat trapped in Bitcoin during a bear market could be better invested somewhere else. Too much time is wasted when you invest in something in long bear markets. We do not stay young forever.

Before you reach 60, how many boom and busts cycle are there, 5 at most?

Boy, if we get another 5 boom busts cycles of these magnitudes count me in! Grin

8638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / I am a Bitcoin Maximalist. But suggest me an altcoin to buy and hold on: October 24, 2017, 05:04:51 AM
Below are the criteria I want for an altcoin.

Fair distribution. No proof of stake or initial coin offerings. I want an altcoin distributed through proof of work.

A good team of developers. This can be argued, but please do explain why you think the team of your altcoin is one of the best.

A growing community. I believe a community behind an altcoin should be positive and optimistic especially during bear markets.
8639  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Twitter to To Follow For Awesome Tips and Detailed Charts - Great for Beginners on: October 24, 2017, 04:54:30 AM
OP, it might be better to explain why you think your projections on the market are valid. We already know the "how" of your method. You simply followed technical tools in a charting software, but the "why" is lacking.

You want beginners to follow you but it is better to teach them how to learn and understand those tools to decide if your posts are worth the follow.
8640  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Do run a Bitcoin Core FULL NODE Now! on: October 24, 2017, 04:34:23 AM
OP, I tried running one last year but I have given up waiting for the sync to finish. I also thought about sending one Bitcoin in my unsynced wallet to give me more incentive to go through with it, but no.

How large is the blockchain, what is your bandwidth and how long until you synced your node?
