The police attacked taksim, starting from this morning.
I tried to go there tonight with some foreigners, but we turned back as soon as we got tear gas. People I was leading didn't have the stomach to continue. I assume that the library is destroyed (it was in the park but near the square) but I may be wrong. We'll see about it soon. I'll try to go there tomorrow with some more experienced folks.
Good for you gurcani. I find it disgusting how much our media is a tool of the government. During the Egyptian riots they considered it an uprising to take over the government and covered it like there was good chance for an overthrow of the government. For this one they talk about the difficulty the Turkish government is facing against these protesters.

There was an article a while back where a business wanted to deliver tacos using drones. I believe the problem was with FAA regulations. Something to do with commercial use of drones being prohibited.
The problem was not the FAA, during their trial run of delivering tacos they used Predator drones and shot the tacos at people...this did not work well.

The more secure the algorithms make Bitcoin, the more benefit for humanity we receive.

consider the Federal Reserve where they purposely "hide" their transactions while refusing to be audited.
Bitcoin, more transparent than the Federal Reserve.

As for the nature of the trip, I hope they follow similar rules that Kashmir Hill followed on her week long experiment. No services allowed where someone accepts Bitcoin and delivers the service on behalf of the actual service. So services like "BitSpend" are a no-go.
They mentioned that they may have to use some pass-throughs but that they would try to avoid them as much as possible. I think one of the big difficulties will be buying gas. I also wonder why it is always people who have "never used bitcoin before" that try to live their lives using only bitcoin. Why not get to know how to use it first?

I believe the key thing in thinking about this is that if we get rid of government, it will create a vaccuum to be filled by more centralized power to control our lives.
What needs to happen is to do like Bitcoin and create a decentralized alternative first.
Voluntarism/Agorism may be such an answer.

It depends, to avoid being tracked by most people? Use VPN or a similar service, usually the only time people would be able to find you through an internet connection is if they were particularly determined. What I do for instance is use a fake username like this that everyone can contact me on on the internet and keep my personal information separate, so even if I say, order something online, I use a different username to this one or use my real details and no one is going to know what I've been up to. Oh and if you really want to minimise your internet activity then of course Bitcoin is always an extremely good option, the only problem is not many normal services are accepting it just yet but as I've suggested in other threads you could buy Gold/Silver anonymously and then trade that in real life for cash.
As for PRISM? Like people are saying all over, it's the most hilariously flawed and fucked up surveillance program ever created, if it is automated, chances are you're going to have it setting off more false flags than an anti-virus on pirated software. There's that much information and communication out on the internet now it can and will fuck up systems like that so unless they're putting in a quantum computer then it won't be able to properly keep track of anything never mind an actual terrorist. This is probably going to be one of those programs that the U.S government will refuse to admit that it was wrong on until the bitter end knowing them.

Not with the price going up/down by $50 a day.
Why not? Ever heard of unit cost averaging?

I guess using the word "society" is poor wording. We are born into an anarchist world...but we join an "archist" society once we give in to following the rules of the archy because of their power.

So, basically, the State is a school-yard bully, writ large?
Pretty much...and the commercials and advice that I see about just ignoring bullies does not seem like it would work.

We all follow orders our whole lives. The first time you are told not to do something that a free man would do, and you change your actions to do so...you have just followed orders to stifle freedom. Even if it is only your own.
I'm not a soldier so I cannot speak for them, I do this solely for the money. I wish the US citizens would vote me out of a job but they just keep wanting to give me more money so who am I to disagree. But the response a soldier always gives is not that they are fighting for their country but for their buddy next to them. They get plopped into bad situations by idiots and have to fight to protect themselves and their buddies.
The US has not been attacked since Pearl Harbor and that was after we forced Japan's hand. Just think of the decades of prosperity we would have if we only attacked those countries that attacked or threatened to attack us? If you're paranoid, pour that military spending into research...we could've had sharks with lasers by now...nobody would mess with us.
Afghanis do not even know how to use a toilet, only 20% can read at a basic level...there was no scenario where Afghanistan was going to take over the US.

At first I was outraged...$200k working for Booz Allen in Hawaii!!! Then I saw the end: Snowden left the CIA in 2009 to work for a private contractor that gave him an assignment at an NSA facility on a military base in Japan. $200k makes sense. So does that mean his position is open?

We all know the number of bitcoins are hard coded into the software at around 21 million. Miners often wonder if mining is a long term viable activity because eventually all the bitcoins will be mined. Only transaction fees are left. Transaction fees may or may not even cover the power cost to keep the miners running. And miners are important to bitcoin's network integrity.
Do you often worry about things that will happen in 130 years?

are you guys going to need a chef? my wife is a professional chef with experience preparing food for very large groups of people. not just cafeteria food either, her background is in preparing fine food for wealthy people. The beauty of having a ship in International waters is that you can hire international workers that will work for less than minimum wage and be making much more than they would have back home. I offered my services with setting up the computers and network but realized that likely they will likely hire several foreigners that will get paid what I would be asking. Part of the reason I do not offer my services on freelancer.
