8701  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [2018-1-9] Kodak Surges After Announcing Plans to Launch Cryptocurrency Called ' on: January 10, 2018, 12:28:45 AM
So what is this? Will this start the SEC to take ICOs seriously and start clamping them down? Telegram wants its own ICO, Facebook has also gave some clues that they might issue its own token. Now Kodak, an old dying company, is organizing its own ICO.

What would the future of legislation look like in the cryptospace for 2018?
8702  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-08] Binance, Bitfinex, Bittrex Temporarily Say No to New Users on: January 10, 2018, 12:16:20 AM
Wow, luckily I've registered an account on all of the above three cryptocurrency exchange platforms. Maybe, the restriction is only for temporarily and they will reopen the registration for newcomers in near future...

I do not have Binance, and I have been avoiding Bitfinex since the hack. If there was an exchange that would Gox users again in the modern era of the cryptospace it would be Bitfinex.

8703  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-01-09] Electrum Bitcoin Wallets Were Vulnerable to Hackers for Two Years on: January 10, 2018, 12:11:49 AM
I didn't know it will happen to a well known Desktop Wallet like Electrum, they even have supported Bitcoin Cash last year and finding out that they were vulnerable made me feel so relieve that I have transferred my Bitcoin to another wallet. Lessons should be learned from this that your money won't be safe not until you provided extra protection for it. We should be aware of the dangers that hackers since day 1 are attracted to Bitcoin now with Bitcoin being more expensive many people with bad intentions are now trying to get it.

Electrum or its maker, ThomasV, does not support bitcoin cash. The wallet's code was forked by another developer, I reckon it was someone here in Bitcointalk, and he called it Electron Cash, an SPV wallet for bitcoin cash.
8704  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-1-5] Mark Zuckerberg wants to introduce cryptocurrency to facebook on: January 09, 2018, 02:10:46 AM
Clickbait. He hasn't said anything about introducing it to facebook, yet the title suggest that he's already decided to do it. He has not!
Also, the fact that he might be interested in cryptocurrencies doesn't say much about which one he's into. It can be dogecoin for all we know.
And this: He has always claimed that Facebook’s mission is to “give power to people CIA.”

Exactly. People are still spread this. He is saying that he wants to study and understand better everything that happens about cryptographic and decentralize systems.

That is because Facebook could be killed if people start to want platforms that only work decentralized and with strong cryptographic. The coin market is part of some changes that will occur. The world will be changed forever.

But with Telegram issuing their own ICO, I cannot see a reason why Facebook would not also do the same strategy. The big technology companies have the leverage and the proper political connections to take advantage of the tokenization of their services to gain a market advantage over their competitors.

If they will not do it, the others will. The best move is to do it first themselves.
8705  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / CoffeeMiner hijacks public Wi-Fi users' browsing sessions to mine cryptocurrency on: January 09, 2018, 02:01:19 AM
I reckon in the future, Monero and other Cryptonote coins will be the most secure forms of cryptocoins in the cryptospace because of these illegal and fraudulent ways of mining.

The next time you visit your local Starbuck's, make certain that the guy in the corner wearing the hoodie is not sniffing your data and injecting a Coinhive script in the webpages you visit hehe.

According to the developer, public Wi-Fi may also now be a source of income for hackers that successfully pull off man-in-the-middle (MiTM) attacks to launch cryptocurrency miners.

The project, released to the public for academic study, leans upon the recent discovery of a cryptocurrency miner discovered on a Starbucks Wi-Fi network.

CoffeeMiner works in a similar way. The attacking code aims to force all devices connected to a public Wi-Fi network to covertly mine cryptocurrency.

The attack works through the spoofing of Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) messages by way of the dsniff library which intercepts all traffic on the public network.

Mitmproxy is then used to inject JavaScript into pages the Wi-Fi users visit. To keep the process clean, the developer injected only one line of code which calls a cryptocurrency miner.

The miner is then served through an HTTP server. The mining software in question is called CoinHive, which is used to mine Monero and is considered by some antivirus firms as a threat.

8706  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: January 09, 2018, 01:48:33 AM
Some say Bitcoin is gold to Litecoin silver. Some say Monero is gold to Aeon silver. Today, approximately, Litecoin is 1/50th value of bitcoin, Aeon is 1/100th value of Monero. Litecoin has 4:1 coin circulating supply of Bitcoin. Aeon has 1:1 coin circulating supply of Monero. Your trend-line may need some positive readjustment if the rebase delivers Smiley

I don't see Litecoin as "the silver" of Bitcoin. Not anymore. Ethereum and Monero are much better suited for that. And, with so many bugs and issues, Ethereum will lose it. On the other side, Monero needs more aggressive advertising.

Don't forget that Monero had a long history of sub 2$ price. AEON already successfully broke that and much more. Don't be too impatient, good things have to happen to AEON, but at the right time.
AEON is much more than silver (and Monero is much better than gold too).

Is there any article that lists out all the issues with Ethereum? I remember the infamous “DAO hack” and other stuff like Vitalik reversing transactions or something like that, but I don’t really remember seeing anything else on ETH... especially articles that dare to criticize all mighty Vitalik.

Just a couple months ago some teenager 'accidentally' deleted over $300MM value of other people ETH.  No idea if that was also rolled back.

To be honest I sort of can't believe these sorts of things have not crushed ETH as a project:

https://hackernoon.com/yes-this-kid-really-just-deleted-150-million-dollar-by-messing-around-with-ethereums-smart-2d6bb6750bb9

I reckon another roll back would require another hardfork. Vitalik again would be risking another chain split that will create Ethereum Classic 2 hehehe. It would also not be good for their image and with Ethereum now a billion dollar blockchain, I speculate that they will not risk it anymore.

@heggerZ. For now, use your imagination hehe.
8707  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [UFC 219: Cyborg vs Holm. NEW EVENT!] The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 09, 2018, 01:38:30 AM
@babygun. It was Floyd's strategy to let Conor gas out and expend all his energy in the earlier rounds. Everyone is aware that it is also Conor's weakness in the UFC. Watch Conor's fights versus Nate Diaz and you will see what I mean. Floyd used Conor's weakness against him.
8708  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-01-09] Electrum Bitcoin Wallets Were Vulnerable to Hackers for Two Years on: January 09, 2018, 01:21:09 AM
I remember there was a thread in the forum that claimed his bitcoins were stolen from his Electrum wallet. I do not remember who it was but this happened a long time ago, maybe 2 years. I did not believe him because he was using a new account and I assumed he was trolling. Is it possible that some hackers already knew about the vulnerability?

In any case, update your wallets now if you are an Electrum user.

For almost two years, hackers could have easily stolen your prized stash of bitcoins if you were keeping them in the popular software wallet Electrum, thanks to a critical security vulnerability that went unpatched until now.

The vulnerability allowed any website (and anyone controlling the site a victim browsed, like a hacker) to steal bitcoins stored using Electrum, as long as the software was running and there was no encryption password set up, according to security researchers. The bug was initially reported by Github user “jsmad” on November 24, 2017. Electrum, however, didn’t fully patch the bug until Sunday, January 7, and only after Google security researcher alerted them to how serious the bug really was.

“The bitcoin wallet Electrum allows any website to steal your Bitcoins,” Ormandy tweeted on Saturday. “I was gonna report it… but there was already an open issue from last year. I pointed out this is kinda critical, and they made a new release within a few hours.”

This is good and bad news. The good is at least we know that the exchanges care about their operation and what is left of the quality of their service to stop accommodating new users to serve the present ones better.

The bad news is this would limit the entry for newcomers.

8711  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Next Mega-Trend in Crypto on: January 08, 2018, 02:34:39 AM
@jjbanks994. I did not read the article and I do not reckon there is a need to. The first question that should be raised is why does Wall Street need a blockchain, a token, or decentralization?

Blockchains cannot scale. Token offerings are 99% scams. Decentralization is only good for real cryptocoins, not for platforms that need to be mutable.
8712  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [UFC 219: Cyborg vs Holm. NEW EVENT!] The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 08, 2018, 02:26:02 AM
@babygun. No the boxing match was definitely not staged. You are also wrong with Floyd knocking out Conor in the earlier rounds if he wanted to because Floyd is not known to do that. He is a tactical fighter who adjusts to his opponents' weaknesses.

With Conor, Floyd knew that he will get tired in the later rounds.

8713  Economy / Speculation / How Likely Is It That Bitcoin Will Hit $500k In Three Years? on: January 08, 2018, 02:13:55 AM
From the article below, I reckon we will see John McAfee eat his own penis on national TV hehehe? According to it, there is only a 1 - 10% chance for bitcoin to reach $500k in the next year, and beyond that, it is harder to know. So meaning there is a 90% or so chance for John McAfee to perform what has not been performed on TV ever.

Also, have we been deluding ourselves about bitcoin's price projections all this time? Do you still believe it can reach all those crazy predictions of $100k - $500k per coin?

So — to summarize, we are probably looking at a range of 1–10% probability of reaching $500,000 in the next year, depending on how you model it. Beyond that, it’s harder to know, with changes happening to the market like introduction of futures, but eventually there may be a liquid market for making such predictions through options.

8714  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-07] Bitcoin - A Long Way From an Everyday Currency: Expert Blog on: January 08, 2018, 01:58:55 AM
That article looks like it was written by a Roger Ver faithful hehehe. All it has is criticisms without any suggestions for improvements or fixes. But I reckon I already know what the author's fix is to make bitcoin scale. Bigger blocks.

I am sorry but Ethereum, which once claimed that they have solved bitcoins' scaling problem, is also now going through the exact issues. I am afraid all blockchain based cryptocurrencies will go under the same process one day and the only way to scale them is through offchain solutions.
8715  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [UFC 219: Cyborg vs Holm. NEW EVENT!] The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 05, 2018, 06:07:51 AM
@nydiacaskey01. I reckon no. Floyd Mayweather will not dare fight in any MMA organization, especially not among the best in the UFC. He will not last 1 round in there.

I speculate that Floyd might be planning something involving the UFC but it will involve him fighting in the octagon.
8716  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple's XRP Token Sets All-Time Price High Above $3 on: January 05, 2018, 05:56:27 AM
@cryptohunter. No, I have always been idealistic. That is why I am an ardent supporter of Aeon. But in the beginning of my cryptocarrer, would you believe that I was holding almost 500k XRP at one time, investing a large portion of my savings in it?

I know it is my greed that is kicking me and laughing at me now. But sometimes I wish I just kept the XRP in cold storage and avoided learning about the cryptospace.

Ah then i know the pain you experience. I too have had many such bad moves.

I was a nem stake holder who though a few humble btc was a great catch for free. That stake now is worth about 3.5 million usd

Who would think for saying hi on a forum you could get such returns as 3.5million usd.

Never look back at such moves it is better to look forward.

Hehe, I remember those days when NEM was traded only on the NXT asset exchange. How I wish I also invested in it, stored it and forgot about it. But in all honestly I thought it was a scam at that time. Who knew that they had a dedicated development team.

@invest2lose. Your name checks out hehehe.  Grin
8717  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: January 04, 2018, 01:36:42 AM
Let us pray that the code rebase is a success and the new roadmap will bring Aeon to new highs. Let us also show that true community, decentralized cryptocoins can also shine in the present state of the cryptospace where ICOs and bankers rule.

I know I have some regret by sticking to my ideals, but I reckon I still made the right decision.

8719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shitcoins on: January 04, 2018, 01:16:39 AM
@subwoofer12. I very much disagree with your sentiment on anonymous coins in general, especially on Monero. In the middle of a time when the regulators start tracking all your transactions in the bitcoin blockchain, some exchanges might be forbidden to accept the coins that have been connected to the darknet, money laundering or any criminal acts. The side effect of that would be those coins that are marked as evil will have a lower value than marked as good because no one will now be accepting the evil coins.

In any case, bitcoin mixing services are a point of failure. Do you remember what happened to Bitmixer?
8720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ripple's XRP Token Sets All-Time Price High Above $3 on: January 04, 2018, 12:51:46 AM
Maybe some of us made the mistake of listening to the libertarians and the bitcoin maximalists by avoiding Ripple XRP because they say it is centralized, a banker's coin and not a true cryptocoin. I am feeling some regret for giving in to my idealistic side and invested in community true coins like Monero and Aeon. I know the engineering behind them is more superior, but sometimes thinking about the money I could have made in XRP is making me hate myself.

Just two weeks after it surpassed $1 for the first time, the price of XRP, the token that powers San Francisco startup Ripple's open-source RippleNet network, has set a new all-time high of $3.

According to data site CoinMarketCap, XRP has climbed more than 21% in the last 24 hours, hitting a price of $3 just after 17:00 UTC today. Ripple’s rally comes after hitting a temporary low of $2 immediately following its previous all-time-high of $2.85 on Dec. 30, 2017, according to CoinMarketCap.

Still, XRP is up 144 percent on the week, and more than 1,000 percent month over month. The cryptocurrency was trading at $0.26 just over 30 days ago. With the change, XRP is also bringing a shake-up to the leaderboard of the most valuable cryptocurrencies.

At press time, XRP has heavily increased its lead over ethereum, long the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap. While just 24 hours ago Ripple had a $17 billion lead, that figure has now increased to $26 billion. Ripple passed ethereum in market cap less than a week ago, and has been holding the number three spot on Dec. 29, 2017.

As Ripple has climbed, so too has the overall cryptocurrency market, with the total market cap surpassing $713 billion just a day after it climbed past $667 billion.

On the day's trading, 15 of the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market cap are in the green, with ethereum classic, Qtum, EOS, iota and bitcoin offshoot litecoin being the notable exceptions.
