Thank you but it was just for fun.

As a personal policy I don't accept btc from, give btc to, buy, sell or trade with anyone at this forum - ever. That's why I don't have an address in my sig line.

8725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Measure Value in Infrastructure Development not Price on: June 09, 2013, 07:41:28 PM
Forex traders would disagree with you. The only way to value a currency is by price. Infrastructure matters in the fixing of price only as much as it creates faith in the currency.

But Forex traders don't need to have faith that USD or GBP will succeed as a currency, therefore the point is a valid one. The more infrastructure that invests in bitcoin by accepting it, the more value that currency has irrespective of current price.

I understand that people want Bitcoin to succeed. I want it to succeed but he is talking about chatter in the speculation sub-forum. If you are here to make money trading the most important aspect for you is price and correctly guessing the next movement. Choosing the end or beginning of a bubble can make you money. You are going to have a hard time convincing speculators to care about small advances in infrastructure because watching those indicators, for now, is important but less so than major trade movement (sell offs) or reliability of pair trading with fiat.

Forex traders would disagree with you. The only way to value a currency is by price. Infrastructure matters in the fixing of price only as much as it creates faith in the currency.

Fundamental analysis studies the intrinsic value of a currency and uses indexes called economic indicators. Economic reports like GDP, CPI, retail sales, interest rates and industrial production help traders determine value. The value of Bitcoin can't be tracked this way.

Technical analysis of currency value can use the above indicators but also uses political stability, the reliability of paying debt, trade balances and demand for the currency as a commodity. This has little to do with infrastructure and everything to do with price. This is the only way to track Bitcoin.

People crudely speculating on current money flow or political circumstances are doing it right. They are attempting to use available knowledge to determine current value direction and make an informed trading decision.

Evoorhees is the brightest one that posts regularly. He will turn a little experiment into a lifetime worth of wealth with little effort. Regardless of the success or failure of Bitcoin, he will still be rich.

Mark Karpellis (MagicalTux) is the smartest one that no longer posts regularly. He turned a stupid trading card business into an empire. His only problem is that he is taking all the exposure. His success will eventually cost him.

The least intelligent player that I can see here is Roger Ver. He already had a thriving tech supply business in Silicon Valley (and others) and has most likely lost more money with Bitcoin than he stands to gain. Obviously a true believer.

then what is a money transmitter

It depends on who's definition.  Generally speaking well written statutes will define key terms but there are a lot of horribly written laws on the books.  At the federal level it is defines as:

Quote
(5) Money transmitter —(i) In general. (A) A person that provides money transmission services. The term “money transmission services” means the acceptance of currency, funds, or other value that substitutes for currency from one person and the transmission of currency, funds, or other value that substitutes for currency to another location or person by any means. “Any means” includes, but is not limited to, through a financial agency or institution; a Federal Reserve Bank or other facility of one or more Federal Reserve Banks, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, or both; an electronic funds transfer network; or an informal value transfer system;

http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?c=ecfr&SID=1874ed9b8ba25f5cf9527e5e39a28df8&rgn=div5&view=text&node=31:3.1.6.1.2&idno=31#31:3.1.6.1.2.1.3.1

FinCEN guidance in April states that it is their interpretation that the conversion of virtual currency into real currency or real currency into virtual currency meets this definition.

In WA (for the purpose of state laws/regs/licensing) however it is defined simply as this:
Quote
(19) "Money transmitter" means a person that is engaged in money transmission.

Hmm.  Well that doesn't tell us a whole lot.  Lets see if money transmission is defined.

Quote
(18) "Money transmission" means receiving money or its equivalent value to transmit, deliver, or instruct to be delivered the money or its equivalent value to another location, inside or outside the United States, by any means including but not limited to by wire, facsimile, or electronic transfer. "Money transmission" does not include the provision solely of connection services to the internet, telecommunications services, or network access. "Money transmission" includes selling, issuing, or acting as an intermediary for open loop stored value devices and payment instruments, but not closed loop stored value devices.

Does exchanging BTC for USD meets this definition.  Well it depends on what "money" is doesn't it.  Luckily that is defined as well.

Quote
(16) "Money" means a medium of exchange that is authorized or adopted by the United States or a foreign government or other recognized medium of exchange. "Money" includes a monetary unit of account established by an intergovernmental organization or by agreement between two or more governments.

So is Bitcoin "money" under WA law?  Well a case could be made that it isn't as no government, international body, intergovernmental organization has stated Bitcoin is "money".   Virtual currency yes but money no.  Still WA is one of those states that likely it won't be decided until either it ends up in court or the law is ammended to be more explicit.

Lets look at another example state.

Quote
This rule applies to any individual or other party who issues, sells or offers to sell within the state any instrument for the purpose of effecting payments to third parties, including, but not limited to, money orders, traveler's checks, and the wire transmission of money.

Key word is "for the purpose of payments to third parties.  If there is no third party then is there a money transmitter?  This isn't legal advice but a credible case could be made that a company (the first party) buying Bitcoins from you (the second party) and paying the proceeds in USD to the same party (you) would not meet the definition of money transmitter under UT law.

Some states are just mute on the entire topic.  In Alaska's general code for example the words "money transmitter" simply don't exist.  Under Alaskan law there is no such thing as a money transmitter any more then there is a flux capacitor repairman.

TL/DR:  So the answer really depends on "according to who" and in what context.  The important thing is that no two states define "money transmitter", "money transmission", or even "money" the same.  Some definitions are very specific and exclude Bitcoin by omission, some definitions like WA are vague and really can only be definitively decided in court.  Some definitions are so asininely broad that "money transmission" could include just about anything including the buying, selling, or exchanging of bennie babies ... if a prosecutor so wanted.

You can be pissy sometimes but I have to admit that I appreciate your explanations on a variety of subjects. This is concise, well thought out and educational.

I don't get this at all. A kid dies because he ate something that had peanuts in it available at his home? Why would the parents even eat products that could have peanuts if they knew the outcome of having that stuff around. I'm sorry for your loss but that borders on neglect.

I'd also feel more sorry for you if you didn't have a Paypal donation link in your post. Even if you do want to "make a difference" isn't there time for that after the body's cold?
8731  Other / Meta / Re: Deleted Post - censorship here on: June 08, 2013, 07:43:45 PM
Just speculating now, but:

MysteryMiner, the reason your post was deleted was not that you advocated for the murder of homosexuals. The reason was that you pointed out just what the holy cow of crypto-anarchy could actually lead to.
The various things that crypto-anarchy will enable or make easier are already discussed here on forum and even on Wikipedia. This most likely are not that case. There are one moderator here who is very sensitive about gay rights and dislikes me for being anti-pervert.

Remember, guns or technology don't kill people. It is always other people who decide to pull the trigger (swing axe, push button, activate timer etc.) and kill other humans. Cryptocurrency and assassination markets will not start wave of murders, no matter what.

The gays attacked first by using police force as a proxy against protesters and lobbying the passing of immoral laws protecting homosexuality. Marriage and human sexuality are one of best things in world, homosexuals are intentionally desecrating it. The so called "gay rights" are only extension of this coordinated global campaign for accepting faggotry as a norm.

You need to go somewhere (like a deserted island) where you can be alone with your thoughts for the rest of your useless existence.

the issue is now resolved and the order has the express shipping marked as paid...

Great! So you received it? What hash rate are you getting?

Where did he say he's received it?

Well if he didn't receive it then nothing is resolved except a promise for a type of shipping. For what they're charging for shipping I could ship a bowling ball to Antarctica and it would get there sooner.
8733  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitinstant cash deposit option gone? on: June 08, 2013, 04:56:36 PM
couldn't a similar service be setup in a foreign country somewhere?

seems like a good opportunity to find out...

Yes but mericans still won't be able to use it without jumping through massive hoops. The U.S. govt controls its people with money. It's a much better and cheaper alternative than troops and troops are made up of citizens. A soldier is not likely to go to the house of an elderly couple and harass them so they get a letter from the IRS instead and commit suicide. It's much more efficient.
8734  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitinstant cash deposit option gone? on: June 08, 2013, 03:46:53 PM
Depends on what country you're in. Not so easy for mericans anymore.

Guess what. I am clean. You see, of someone bet you with thngs like cookies. You wont be in trouble. Like if you lose the paper scissors stone to me. You gimmie the cookie. Those arent defined as gambling according to law. In order cases. We have a rule here that we cant have loans over 60 percent pa. Bitcoin solves the problem. Lime i owe you a meal today and i pay 2 meals for you next week. I am clean.

All becoz it is not a currency that is defined by law. Or de federal or whatever.

I'm glad you started gambling at such a young age. You will have a long life of poverty ahead of you. You should consider drinking alcohol and smoking while you're gambling. It makes the losing experience much more enjoyable.

Maybe the CIA finally diverted enough budget money to get their mining farm operational. It takes a lot of money to fund foreign puppet regimes. Does anyone know if the mining is originating near Langley, Virginia?

Maybe it's the Winklevii douches mining instead of buying. Summers Eve probably had a sale on ASIC hardware.
