Thanks to everyone who participated in the discussion. From all the posts, it can be concluded that the majority still has a negative opinion about this type of ban. While the question of who is a scammer and who is not can always be asked, freedom of expression still seems to take precedence over any bans - this is definitely good news for scammers.

Imagine that in real life, instead of prison, criminals remain on the loose with the inscription "warning - I am a murderer" and that the system says : "beware of them, we cannot protect you."
8782  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it a good time to buy Bitcoin ? on: November 05, 2020, 11:12:09 AM
For anyone asking this question, investing in BTC is always good - but only with that money you’re willing to lose at any moment - for some people it’s still better to stick to fiat or maybe gold.
I'd say those asking similar questions to this, should probably hold off investing into Bitcoin, until they've learned more about it, and how much the Bitcoin market has swung back, and forth over the years. Its probably never a good idea to invest in something that you aren't at least a little knowledgeable about, and wont have your opinion swayed easily, especially when listening to those that are on a Bitcoin forum, because their outlook is likely to be more positive than a broad investor.

People make big mistakes because they have a mostly misconception about what Bitcoin is, and it is often described as magical internet money (used to promote in Hong Kong recently). When a moment like this happens and the price suddenly starts to rise, it is logical to create a FOMO effect that is ultimately fatal for some because they have no experience.

I absolutely agree that we who have been on this crypto forum for a long time may not be able to be completely objective in giving such advice, but I always try to be as objective as possible. In real life, I have had situations where I have helped people invest in BTC, but their ignorance and ignoring of all my advice has resulted in a financial loss due to improper use of crypto wallets or loss of backups.

That's why I say that for some it is better to stick to traditional investment, not because I don't want them to be part of the crypto world, but because they are simply not ready to be their own bank.

marlboroza, are you happy now? You finally got a reason to leave me feedback, I know I wish you had a reason it could have been negative, but I hope this neutral brightened your day too Wink

First you play the "gang card", then you go for "sig spam"... while wearing a sig... well played! Roll Eyes

I was actually referring to belonging to one of these gangs -> Gangs of BitcoinTalk Smiley It was supposed to be a sarcastic post, like the one he post before - but if someone is looking for a reason to see negativity in something, they will always find a way to do it.
8784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think is the biggest disadvantage of bitcoin? on: November 04, 2020, 02:24:14 PM
Am I the only one that starts unseeing bitcoin as a medium of exchange?

There is no doubt that there is a challenge when it comes to fees, but it is something that is an integral part of what makes Bitcoin unique compared to other payment methods. At the end of 2017, those fees were even over $50, but since then we have achieved a significant adaptation of SegWit, LN is slowly evolving and more and more people are using it, and crypto exchanges are sending transactions in batch.

Micro transactions for less than $5 are really a problem, and I really don't see the logic of sending such a small amount and paying more than twice the fee - but my personal attitude is to always adjust to the moment and pay in a way that is currently more convenient for me. Yet Bitcoin remains the perfect choice when it comes to larger amounts, as people move millions for just a few $ fee.
8785  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Service Solves This Problem on: November 04, 2020, 02:05:28 PM
Just to clarify, I am kind of a paranoid weenie when it comes to large sums of money.  I would prefer more established, secure services even if it cost more in fees and wanted KYC.
Forgot to mention I am in the US.

The US is the country with the most crypto ATMs, and maybe that would be the best solution for you, of course if you have one such ATM near you? On the other hand, I see that you mention large sums of money, and that doesn't really fit into going to an ATM - but again, the question remains, what do you mean by large sums of money, $1000 or $10 000?

Since you are from the US, Coinbase or Binance US are a logical choice because they have existed for a long time and have the trust of users. The problem with Binance US can only be if you are from a state that is not supported (https://support.binance.us/hc/en-us/articles/360046786914-States-That-Binance-US-Does-Not-Currently-Support)
8786  Economy / Reputation / Re: An obvious case of trust abuse (DT members welcome) on: November 04, 2020, 01:46:31 PM
The answer is simple, I am not a member of any gang Wink
The gang card! But the answer is much simpler than that, forum members don't trust your judgement.

You have 8 pages of people telling you that this is wrong use of trust system. If I were you, I would start reading this topic again Wink

I was wondering when you will appear and spill some of your wisdom - and for you as well as for others who enforce the laws of the forum by choosing to whom you will apply them or not I say once again to review at least all DT1 members and their negative feedbacks. At least you met your daily quota and got merit, two flies with one blow Wink
8787  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it a good time to buy Bitcoin ? on: November 04, 2020, 11:59:22 AM
I can’t know when the OP first heard of BTC, but I can only tell him that it’s completely wrong to ask what he asks - so we’re not some prophets here who know if the price will drop below $10 000 again. Nothing is impossible when it comes to Bitcoin, and if you invest be prepared for losses one way or another, and by that I mean not only changes in price, but also the security of storing something as security-sensitive as Bitcoin.

For anyone asking this question, investing in BTC is always good - but only with that money you’re willing to lose at any moment - for some people it’s still better to stick to fiat or maybe gold.
8788  Economy / Reputation / Re: An obvious case of trust abuse (DT members welcome) on: November 04, 2020, 11:10:30 AM
a challenge for you to check all DT1/2 members and their inappropriate feedbacks, due to which only a few were publicly named, but without any consequences.
There's a lot of those, partially because theymos changed the feedback descriptions when Flags were introduced and older feedback doesn't always fit the current description. And partially because many people leave feedback I don't agree with. I can't automate this, and I don't want to manually check tens of thousands of feedbacks. But if one pops up (like in your case), I share my opinion. Sometimes people change their mind, sometimes they don't.
Note that I haven't excluded (or included) you over this. I don't agree with all feedbacks for most people, so my Trust list is only based on the majority of their feedback.

There is a first time for everything, so some things are a challenge for you too - but maybe you better not open that pandora box because you could find very awkward things about how some DT1/2 members use their feedbacks. The rules exist, but they don’t apply to everyone - if I can’t be a DT member because of my feedback, how is it possible that dozens of others don’t have any problems because of it? The answer is simple, I am not a member of any gang Wink
8789  Economy / Economics / Re: Second lockdown in Europe can their economy survive this?. on: November 04, 2020, 10:42:21 AM
Take to the streets in protest is not a wise move at this time. Even if you strongly disagree with government policy, going down the road to protest is the worst option. In the midst of a pandemic that is getting crazy, you only worsen the condition of the country. Not getting a solution to the problem that happened, it made it worse.

I don't mind people protesting, anytime and anywhere - but then these same people shouldn't seek medical help when they get infected - let them stay home and cure themselves of a virus they consider harmless. These are people who have 0% empathy for others, who want to live as before and don't care if 100 or 10 000 people die tomorrow.

However, I am very confused by the conditions in Europe, why the virus spreads so fast considering the conditions in Europe are far above the average for developing countries, it is not that the people should have a higher awareness of health and the government is better prepared to handle a pandemic like this. But in fact, the spread of the virus in Europe is higher than in my developing country.

The virus has mutated and is now xx times more contagious than in the first wave, and considering that it is autumn and that people are staying more and more indoors we have a real explosion of infection. There is no difference between developed and underdeveloped countries when it comes to spreading the disease, it's just about how responsible people are, and a good part of the EU population behaves very irresponsibly - they don't wear masks, they don't disinfect their hands, they don't keep social distance - and in addition, they tell others that the virus is just a fabrication.

With all this, the EU is completely divided on how to curb the virus, there are no common measures and the whole thing is completely out of control - if there is no effective vaccine soon, what happened in Italy last winter will happen in most EU countries.

8791  Other / Meta / Re: Should confirmed scammers lose the ability to send PM? on: November 04, 2020, 10:07:11 AM
But can't newbies pm newbies so they could just make a new account?

Newbie accounts are a completely different story, but they still have a limitation of sending PM, so they cannot act on a larger number of users in a short time, which means they will be detected very soon and probably get a perma ban.

I think blocking transactions from these guys will still be hard to implement even when discovered the tx or any identity used. Also exchange wouldnt care probably unless they have enough time to listen with these scammer's issue.

You didn't understand me well, I didn't mean any transactions as such - but the services that these scammers offer through PM to those who have problems with withdraw, stuck transactions or blocked crypto exchange accounts.

I believe the trust system is good enough to heed as a warning.

Warning is unfortunately not something that all members understand, especially those who have major problems with the basics of the English language. The administration should find a way to disable those with malicious intent from doing their dirty work through private messages, so if a member has proven bad intentions' confirmed from many DT1 members we should move from warning to prevent them from doing more damage.

Here is just one example of a member who has zero value for the forum, who sends private messages to other members in order to scam as many people as possible. It is completely incomprehensible to me that he can still do what he wants, because the forum no longer wants to have anything to do with him.

8792  Other / Meta / Should confirmed scammers lose the ability to send PM? on: November 03, 2020, 03:20:56 PM
We know the scam on this forum is not moderated, and that we have hundreds of scammers who have negative feedbacks and active flags that should warn all members to stay away from them when it comes to trading or any other type of activity that can result in financial loss.

Yet despite these visual warnings, many fall victim to these same scammers who send them PMs and offer various methods of earning, or help with unconfirmed transactions, blocked crypto exchange accounts and similar things.

What would definitely make their job harder is the automatic ban on sending PMs to everyone or at least to lower ranks. While some may say that everyone should take care of themselves, watch Trust ratings and always be vigilant - why not take away the most powerful weapon of scammers right now - and that is to prevent them from doing their dirty work in the background via PM.
8793  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: DreamerBT tried to scam me for 0.1btc using the fake telegram manager trick on: November 03, 2020, 03:07:00 PM
It's your fault that you even went to trust a person who has something like this in his Trust profile

Although this is just another in a series of confirmations that the user is a scammer, I have no doubt that he will continue to find his victims through the PM forum.
8794  Economy / Economics / Re: Second lockdown in Europe can their economy survive this?. on: November 03, 2020, 02:35:21 PM
I'm not sure when, but eventually governments are going to realize that they can't keep shutting down the economy to fight off the spread of a virus that is nowhere as lethal as it's being made out to be.  I think Germany and France are shooting themselves in the foot by doing this, and who knows when this is going to end?  So to everyone living in those two countries, I wish you guys the best.  And maybe you ought to follow the Americans and take to the streets in protest.

The situation is really critical in almost all EU member states, and this is just the beginning of the second wave. What is trying to be saved with lockdowns is the health care system, which in almost all countries is falling apart and bursting in all directions, leaving even the most difficult patients without adequate help. No one would knowingly shoot themselves in the leg if there is other choice, and if you have to choose between head and foot, most will still choose the latter, no matter how painful it is.

I understand from what perspective you speak when you look at the situation in your own way, but Europeans are (in most cases) much more susceptible to deaths than Americans - although some protest in the streets and come to hospitals a few days later infected, which is a really amazing display of human stupidity.
8795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: john mcAfee pumps crypto from prison, denies tax fraud and murder on: November 03, 2020, 01:58:28 PM
Whatever this scammer is pump from prison, this is not Bitcoin for sure, maybe some shitcoin, because that has been the case all these years. Personally, I don't care in which hole he will spend the rest of his life, but I would like it to be one in which he will not be allowed to use the internet. People who still see something positive in him have more than obviously very strange needs to follow characters like this.

Rabi3, if possible refrain from advertising a website that still promotes Bitcoin Tr(c)ash as real Bitcoin.
8796  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC tx accelerator works really? on: November 03, 2020, 11:58:14 AM
However I still dont consider the services provided about transaction acceleration by some members of this forum and like I said I would defenitely like to hear from them too instead of just giving it a one sided speculation.

Anyone can offer such a service and then use some other services, and present the results as their own success (if any). Often it is actually just a re-broadcast of the transaction, which is very easy to sell under acceleration - and often the transaction is confirmed on a regular basis, for which some of course take credit.

I personally had the only success with ViaBTC (as a free option) and everything else I tried ended in failure. Therefore, it would be much smarter to learn how to reduce fees using native SegWit and consolidating inputs at a time when fees are minimal.
8797  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-11-02]Bitcoin Is Braced For A U.S. Election Earthquake This Week on: November 03, 2020, 11:40:28 AM
I believe that is unavoidable. There are some events which have a huge impact on markets but to have a wider view is very important too.

But such analyzes are primarily intended for those who see BTC only as an asset through which to make a profit, and now the whole world is wondering what will happen if one old fart replaces another - which is completely irrelevant to me personally if we know that American politics is constantly aggressive no matter what the name of their president is.

The centralization of power when it comes to mining is bad, but so is the uniform implementation of regulations that are just spreading from the world's largest democracy. Their influence on Bitcoin is growing, and we all know that the whole world is full of those who are their faithful servants and will do whatever is asked of them.

I would like people to pay more attention to what is happening in their countries and who they choose in their elections - instead of having fun watching two old men fight for a position in a way that most of the world's media described as utterly inappropriate and beneath any political correctness.
8798  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HWs and Airgapped PCs: I'm under doubts. What should I do? on: November 03, 2020, 11:12:40 AM
My long-term mixed coins will be used P2P only, while my hot wallet will be a little more "vulnerable" privacy-wise.

I think it is terribly difficult to achieve absolute privacy in today's world where everything is actually analyzed, and if you look at all those companies that deal exclusively with BTC blockchain analysis, just one wrong step is enough to be identified in one way or another. For those to whom BTC is attractive as a payment currency, privacy is a terribly big challenge - I have to admit that so far I have not decided to go in that direction.

They're a company and they may have shown mostly good intentions in the first few years, but lately they've turned to the "darker" side in my opinion. As a company, no matter how much it looks like they are well intended, they may be influenced in the end the same way Google and almost all the other corporations of today have been - especially if large money comes into the game. The Secure Element is another thing that makes me question whether backdoors are a thing - hence why I previously searched for a way to use my HW offline.

Whether it’s Ledger or Trezor (or any other HW) anyone who doesn’t doubt and question their methods constantly actually lives in the false belief that the world is a fair place, when in fact it is quite the opposite. I’ve been using Ledger HW for years, but that doesn’t mean I trust them absolutely, and this latest data leak has definitely shown that anything is possible.

Therefore, it is quite justified to look for some new solutions and to look for every possible flaw in the existing ones.
8799  Economy / Reputation / Re: An obvious case of trust abuse (DT members welcome) on: November 03, 2020, 10:46:35 AM
It's not nonsense. Negative trust for spamming is not appropriate, you're just too stubborn to admit that you made a mistake and instead of having a chance to contribute to the forum as a DT2 member you're pissing it away for the sake of grandstanding against one of thousands of spammers.

Of course, it is not appropriate and I have admitted it many times. The system has been shown to work on my example, but why doesn't it work on the example of many other DT members who leave similar negative feedbacks and have no problems because of it? As in real life, rules exist but are applied differently to different people.

That's really all there is to it. You can choose to use the Trust system correctly, be included, and your feedback will actually matter. Or you can choose to use it any way you want, no Admin is going to delete your feedback, but don't expect anyone to take it seriously.

Since you are doing various forum analyzes and statistics, here is a challenge for you to check all DT1/2 members and their inappropriate feedbacks, due to which only a few were publicly named, but without any consequences.
8800  Economy / Reputation / Re: An obvious case of trust abuse (DT members welcome) on: November 02, 2020, 02:41:50 PM

The fact is, I’m abuse system to leave you the negative feedback you definitely deserve, even though I can’t be in DT for it - but that’s the price I’m willing to pay. How low did this forum go that a troll and spammer like this could be part of any campaign at all, even if one of the most respectable members left such feedback.

Please no nonsense about negative and neutral feedback, we clarified that a long time ago.
