882  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin puzzle transaction ~32 BTC prize to who solves it on: January 08, 2017, 01:47:39 PM
I got a bunch of old GPUs that can't mine ETH or ZEC and for fun I am thinking of trying to solve the 50th bit with brute force.

However how can I get the oclvangen program to start at 1,125,899,906,842,620 instead of using random numbers and go in order.

With the GPUs I got it should take about 15 days or so...

You should read this thread and consider participating in the pooled search effort:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1573035.0

It looks like you can configure your system to search just the 251 - 252 private key address space (where then next payout will be):

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1573035.msg16338052#msg16338052

This pooled effort is sequentially searching the key space.  They have already re-found almost all the puzzle transactions, see this page:

If you have a hard time mining Ethereum using GPU then the best way and the most easy way is to register and download minergate. I am not advertising minergate but since it is the easiest way to mine ethereum I am sharing this to you. BUt with regards to ZEC I have no site to recommend to you. You can try my recommendation to find out if its a good option or not.

You should learn to read before you post.

Historical search, note date.  There are many, many other threads on this subject - just do a search (pun intended).  No, you are not the first one to think of this.

State of the art sequential search.

It appears they expect to find the next largest prize from the puzzle transaction in the next few years.

So I guess that's a yes to posting the private key just to see what happens?

Sure, why not, but if that $0.03 would turned into over a million dollars down the road, I'll be huntin' your ass in the furry-afterlife (or is that furry ass in the afterlife?). A million dollars could purchase a fleet of small aircrafts or supply clean water to a magnitude of people.
I would vote against it.  What if someone finds out about it and sends some money without fully researching it and finding out that is has been closed and that the private key has been published?  Just my humble opinion.

We can predict what will happen.  If you publish it then it will end up in a lot of sweep scripts and if any funds ever get sent to it then they will be swept to another address by whoever gets lucky and has the fastest sweeper.

Some people are distorting trump words. Illegal immigrants are a serious problem for any country.

Illegal immigration is a serious issue... unless you are living in some third world country such as Nigeria or Burkina Faso, and is planning to pay the human smugglers in Tunisia $10,000 to smuggle you to Europe.
That sound illegal.

Either one would be a good choice with Tump being slightly better, according to this definition:

The President is very much a figurehead - he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it.

Thanks for your help.. actually my brother is a lawyer in Europe and specializes in International law.. forget about the money they froze on my account, it's been 2-3 days since they are "reviewing" my account and they haven't replied yet which leads me to believe they completely put that support ticket to the back and have no intention on releasing my coins
Nice brother to have.  Good luck.
890  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: December 22, 2016, 02:55:27 PM
Money still froZen no reply

Was the lawyer any help?

. . . I will . . . contact a lawyer cause it's against the law

. . . I will be taking legal action . . .

Didn't contact a lawyer because they froze my money but the fact they released my personal info without my consent.. and yes I'm in the process.
What country are you in?  Do you happen to be in Finland or at least Europe somewhere?  If not you will need a lawyer who handles international issues.  I bet that will be a very expensive lawyer - if you can find one.

The last time I hired a lawyer (US federal felony case involving Bitcoins) they wanted $50,000 CASH up front before they would even talk to me.  I was in jail at the time so my wife had to cash in our IRAs in order to raise the money. A lawyer who specializes in international law will probably want even more.

I never had any issues with localbitcoins - they were great.  My issue was Homeland Security arresting me and throwing me in jail for trading on localbitcoins.

894  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: do i have to pay tax on bitcoins ? on: December 18, 2016, 02:56:57 AM
This thread has truly been a boon to account farmers:

hurain
no we do not pay tax on bitcoin, actually our government has not yet declare bitcoin as legal currency therefore it is yet tax free, because there id no tax on any illegal object, but if the government will recognize it as legal then they will impost tax on bitcoin and every one will then pay tax,
i think it depend on your country polity if your country has decler bitcoin legal and imposed tax on bitcoin then surely you have to pay tax on bitcoin, otherwise there is no tax on bitcoin because in most of the area bitcoin is not legal and the country not yet consider bitcoin as legal currency.
if your country have impose tax on bitcoin then you have to pay tax otherwise there is no tax on bitcoin  only those countries may be collecting tax on bitcoin who are already accepted bitcoin as legal currency.
i think it depend on the policy of your country, if your country imposed tax on bitcoin then you have to pay tax on it other wise there is no tax on bitcoin at all.

Superbitzz
but i think it is up to your country policy, if your country consider bitcoin as legal and then impost tax on it then you must have to pay tax on it ans you will have no other choice.
no it is not tax, it is just the fee you pay on transaction, the tax you have to pay to the government and government only impose tax on such things which are legal and do not impose tax on such item which are not legal, as bitcoin is still not consider as legal therefore there is no tax on bitcoin.
i think it depend on your country policy, if your country impose tax on bitcoin then you really have to pay tax on it but for this your country must have to declare bitcoin as a legal currency first.
yes that is right say you can buy more and more bitcoin and can hold it for a long time tell yo wan to keep, as there is no tax on bitcoin and no one has to pay tax on bitcoin tell the government impose tax on it.
yes that is a fact that every one has to pay tax on fiat currency, but it we talik about bitcoin so there is no tax on bitcoin because bitcoin is not a legal currency, and still not legalize by any country.
yes that is a fact and i thin still not a single country has impose tax on bitcoin and the reason is that not a single country yec turn bitcoin as legal currency therefore to me there is no tax on bitcoin.

satdas
it depend on the area and the country where you are living, if your country has imposed tax on bitcoin they you have to pay tax but i thin still not a single country has yet consider bitcoin as legal currency therefore there is still no tax on bitcoin.
but i think the government cannot develop a system to impost tax on bitcoin until they legalize it, and still i do not think that any country has officially legalize bitcoin, i think still any government given any statement about bitcoin that either it is a legal currency or not, and therefore still there is no tax on bitcoin. may be in future when government when the government will legalize bitcoin will think about to impose tax on bitcoin.
yes that is right to say, as not a single country has yest consider bitcoin as legal currency therefore they are not putting tax on bitcoin but once it become a legal currency then they will certainly put tax on bitcoin, may be some countries are thinking about this to legalize it, and if once it become a legal currency then it will become more and more popular currency of the world.

Dora Doll
but i think still there is no tax on bitcoin any where, still bitcoin is tax free, and the reason is that still not a single country consider bitcoin as legal currency therefore still there is no tax on bitcoin. may be in future when governments will accept bitcoin as legal currency then they will put tax on bitcoin.
yes but as not a single country yet consider bitcoin as legal currency therefore i  think there is no tax on bitcoin and when bitcoin will be consider as legal currency then they will put tax on bitcoin,

Maesters1
yes it depend on the policy of a country, if a country has imposed tax on bitcoin then you have to pay otherwise bitcoin is tax free in most of the areas as most of the countries has yes not yet consider bitcoin as legal currency.
i think most of the countries have no tax on bitcoin, and the reason is that bitcoin is not yet legalize by any state and there is no poly of any country to impost tax on illegal items, and therefore there is no tax bitcoin in most of the countries.

Others
if you country has imposed tax on bitcoin then you have to pay tax on it, otherwise there is no tax on bitcoin there is  only transaction charges and nothing else.
it totally depend on your country policy if your country have impost tax on bitcoin then you certainly have to pay tax on bitcoin otherwise it is free of tax every where.
yes i also agree with you, that if you country has impose tax tax on bitcoin then you have to pay tax other wise there is no tax but it is also a fact that still very little number of state have impost tax on bitcoins may be yet not a single country.
i think that is not you are paying tax, you are just paying service charges, tax is only collected by the government, and government only collect tax on legal things, as bitcoin is not a legal currency therefore government is not collecting tax on bitocin.
if your country have impose tax on bitcoin then you have to pay tax otherwise there is no tax on bitcoin  only those countries may be collecting tax on bitcoin who are already accepted bitcoin as legal currency.
yes there is no tax on bitcoin directly but if you change your bitcoin in to fiat currency and deposit it in bank they  you have to pay tax, actually bitcoin is not yet consider as legal in any country therefore there is no tax on bitcoin any where.
i think it is totally depending on the policy of your country, if your country has imposed tax on bitcoin then you must have to pay tax, other wise there is no tax on bitcoin.
but in my country there is no tax on bitcoin, as we have to pay tax on such item which are legal or registered with government, as bitcoin is not yet registered with government nor the government consider it as legal currency, therefore there is no tax on bitcoin.
i think it is depending on our country policy, if your country has impose tax on bitcoin then you really have to pay tax on bitcoin, but i think still most of the countries has not yet impost tax on bitcoin, therefore bitcoin is still free in most of the countries.
Perfect example of the total shit this forum has to deal with due to paid signatures.

The policy should be one warning then perm ban anyone with a paid signature.  Ban ALL paid signatures.

Finally a news story:

http://foreignpolicy.com/2016/12/05/did-chinas-currency-just-drop-off-a-cliff/

Quote
Monday, the Chinese renminbi fell by about 10 percent against the dollar in a matter of hours, one of the biggest one-day moves since Beijing allowed its money to partially float. The yuan dropped from about 6.8 to the dollar to about 7.5 — pushing China’s currency to the cheapest level since the 2008-09 financial crisis.

The sudden drop in the currency, also known as the yuan, is telling — if only because Beijing carefully controls its currency fluctuations. Daily movements are sharply limited, and leadership intervenes to prop up the currency — or let it slide — as political whims dictate.  This year, the yuan has already gotten about 5 percent cheaper against the dollar, which makes Chinese goods more competitive against U.S. exports, and makes Chinese exports cheaper and more enticing for American consumers.

Monday evening, there was still plenty of confusion over the nature of the yuan’s plunge. Some ascribed it to a technical error on currency trading platforms; others confirmed that the movement, while brusque, was genuine — but they had little idea what drove the trading.

Could Beijing have have just answered President-elect Donald Trump’s weekend provocations?

On Sunday evening, as he had before on the campaign trail, Trump took aim at China’s currency policy, tweeting, “Did China ask us if it was OK to devalue their currency (making it hard for our companies to compete)”? Paired with another tweet railing against China’s militarization of reefs and atolls in the South China Sea, Trump appeared to link the economic and security aspects of the U.S. relationship with China in a way seldom done before in Washington.

The question is whether Beijing, by allowing its currency to suddenly slide, thus giving its export-based economy an immediate boost, gave Trump an immediate and provocative answer to his tweets — or whether global currency traders, seeing signs of increased tension between China and the United States simply got bearish on Chinese money.

Trump’s unprecedented phone conversation with the president of Taiwan on Friday rattled Beijing and sent a clear signal that China hawks have a prominent place in Trump’s emerging national-security team.

Or perhaps it was just a trading-platform glitch, after all. The only thing certain is that there will be plenty more turbulence — and not just for the yuan — as the Trump administration and Chinese leaders in Beijing come to grips with the world’s most important rivalry.
