There are challenges to be solved, but we will find solutions. Ideas, opinions, naysaying and cheerleading are welcomed and encouraged.

For now, ideas can be voiced here: http://www.reddit.com/r/nxtopia/

I have registered nxtopia.com, which currently redirects to a wordpress.com placeholder

1000 nxt sent  Smiley

Fell asleep yesterday when this started, but it's great to see how this has fired people's imagination.
I will read the material so far and chip in where I can.
Been an avid Eve/WoW/D&D player for years and the PoB idea for an ingame currency is great.
I think that a separately issued Asset is the way to go here.

The word "Freemium" for me is always a "stay well clear" flag, by the way. The only things that I would buy are non-critical to gameplay.
I hate games were the big fiat wallets get perks.

By the way: Coinhost (just posted on reddit) now accepts Nxt.

Thinking out loud here -- excuse the smoke.

I'm not sure if James (or was it Ricky?) that had a smallish bounty for the best 5 ideas to make money with Nxt (I'm probably wildly misremembering this).

Damelon and I had a quick casual chat over at reddit that got me thinking. He was discussing how mining in EVE is similar to forging NXT in that they're FUN. Having mined a lot in EVE, I agree and see the overlap.

What if we had an old-school style MUD plugged into the AE? It may be crude enough where it would have to be turn-based (like the old play by mail games). But holy !@!$ -- a persistent, online world, sitting atop the blockchain. WITH MICROTRANSACTIONS.

I'm such a geek that the very first thing I thought of when the AE was described here months ago was WoW's auction house and EVE's market.

A simple, online, text-based MMORPG, using NXT as in-game 'gold'. Could definitely get users involved who don't have the technical know-how for coding but have a passion for gaming and design.

This would have to start off small (a single room Inn) and expand to a village, to a countryside, to a nation, continent, etc.

2016, our own little user-generated online world? Would you pay 3 NXT for a +5 Vorpal Sword that a user found in the depths of a dungeon and puts it up for auction?

Haha, that was my association, too!  Grin
I would definitely play something like this!
The most exciting part of Eve was always the crossover to the real world, building your corp to earn PLEX. Smiley
I also like the emergent quality of this idea.

Than we all have to vote as hell, day by day, hour by hour as registered users (6 votes per hour) to get 20,000 votes.

I like the idea of SWARMING it, too.
If only because it's such fun to beat the others with a relatively small userbase  Grin

Not specifically aimed at Nxt, but crypto in general.

I like the tone of this article: http://www.coindesk.com/rise-cryptocurrency-gift-economy/

Might inspire some of you, too.  Smiley
887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NXT] Community nominations to the funding comittee on: February 18, 2014, 07:40:20 PM
One thing is clear: People should not think of this committee group as the officials who are solely responsible for Nxt to develop further into the future. Everyone in the community still needs to develop ideas and think on their own. The committees are first and foremost responsible for the unclaimed coins as a source for bounties and initiators of discussions on ideas from the community.

This is no foundation.
The committees (as has already been voted on) are only there to approve the funds, not to initiate their own (although individuals will obviously do so, just not as part of their committee duties).

This means that people should ASK if they have something worthwhile.

I talked to neer.g yesterday and he particularly stressed this part himself. He created the Nxtcommunityfund to be used and was a bit non-plussed that people didn't come forward and ask for them. Smiley These funds are not the Nxtcommunityfund of course, but the same kind of reasoning applies, I think.

There are many creative people out there that could benefit from these funds if they have something to bring to the table.
Asking doesn't mean they will get them, but not asking will make that a certainty.

Payment Processor Information

As some of you already know if you read Nikel's reports, I've been talking to the guys from ZipZap and GoCoin quite a bit for Peercoin for a month prior to the conference and then spoke to both parties (Nikel lead) at the Miami conference about Nxt.  This is important, I can move this conversation forward.

I need someone willing to put the following data together (this is what we did for Peer). We need to show trends, interest and liquidity. Who is willing to work with me on it? I CAN get in front of the GoCoin board and pitch Nxt. See examples below on what we presented Zipzap and GoCoin:

1. Exchanges

We're listed on all the major alt exchanges listed here:

http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?topic=127.0

The bulk of our liquidity happens at BTC-e. We currently have 3.8 million dollars worth of buy orders for PPC/USD and 127,000 PPC worth of sell orders.

2. Additional Numbers

I've asked our team to put together some numbers:

A. Peercoin 6-month Transaction Volume on BTC-e (PPC/BTC Trading Pair)

https://i.imgur.com/a4InuOk.png

B. Peercoin 6-month Transaction Volume on the rest of the top 5 exchanges (Cryptsy, BTER, Vircurex, and Vault of Satoshi, with VoS conservatively assumed to be 5000 PPC per day since Sept 1)

https://i.imgur.com/VDFVLDu.png

C. Peercoin 1-month Transaction Volume on BTC-e (PPC/USD Trading Pair)

https://i.imgur.com/NnvNpda.png

D. Number of unique transactions per day

http://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/transactions-ppc.html

E. Value of Peercoin being transacted per day

http://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/sentinusd-ppc.html

================

Who is willing to step up?

Thanks!

Saw this yesterday evening and had a think about it and my take is that this is too soon.
At this moment we haven't even gotten a simple payment system going.
This means we also don't have much movement in Nxt and people don't recognise it as a payment option, but mainly as an investment opportunity.
I'm not against this per se, but if I would put myself in their shoes, for now I'd say we have little to offer and much to lose ourselves.

It's true that moving towards a payment system is needed (hey, I'm working on it! I admit Smiley ), but at the moment it doesn't seem like a good idea to move in with these profs yet.

I'd feel much more comfortable running the payments for the coming months via our own systems. That way we can build attention for it and get it more accepted. In six months, this seems to be something that would be viable. If that is a conservative guess, that's great.

It's a fact that not many people have big quantities of Nxt. 200-500 seems average for most smaller accounts, if I look at the forums, and outside this thread. To buy anything of reasonable value (say a promotional T-shirt at this moment) would probably take about that or a substantial part of it. I know that I wouldn't buy if it meant cleaning out my wallet.

If anything, it would draw attention to the fact that 200 Nxt isn't actually worth all that much at the moment.

So, in this case, I would advise to wait for a bit, even if théy are eager. If all goes well, they will still be eager in a month or two. Smiley

2 Nxt.

Cool to see another web client, however it seems to be using api calls that will be removed soon (getInitialData / processNewData)

Who made this? Smiley

893  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 18, 2014, 09:20:50 AM
1. community raises NXT for charity
2. charity gets NXT
3. What happens now? Do they hold or sell it?

I think the third point is important. We believe that the price will rise in the future, so it would be wise for them to hold. That would mean also that they don't need a huge pile of NXT. But who are we to tell them "just hold it, this will (probably) help you enormously in the future". How did the BTC community 'handled' it?

Many little projects with a goal of maybe 20,000 NXT or two or three big projects and a huge load of NXT from the community.

What are the consequences for marketing?

When the Nxt are theirs, they're theirs. It's up to them to decide.
We can advise, but that advice will always be biased.

It must be clear THEY decide, as it's their money.

This will also mean they will actually have to research Nxt to make a decision Smiley

Edit: this is also a reason Songs of love was chosen, as they don't want it converted to USD, but actually want the cryptos.
894  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Songs of Love thanks the Nxt community! on: February 17, 2014, 10:33:14 PM
On behalf of the Songs of Love Foundation, I would like to than the Nxt community for helping top raise much needed funding for our mission of music. For the last 18 years we have enhanced the lives of sick children and teens by giving them their very own personalized "songs of love". Over 24,000 children have been helped all across the world. You can see us in action on the 60 Minutes News Program at:
www.songsoflove.org/60minutes. Songs of Love and Nxt....making beautiful music together for the children who need a reason to smile.

Hopefully it will be a success :-)

Forgive me for having a little too much joy hearing this politically correct answer/reply from BitonicNL on twitter when asked whether they are going to start selling NXT for Euros! Smiley I have been buying bitcoins regularly from this site and is a happy customer.

Here is the tweet: https://twitter.com/Bitonicnl/statuses/435398282617966592

Wow!
This would be great!
Bitonic is very good and dependable :-)

I want to congratulate you all on the beautiful sites and logo's and NEM itself, of course Smiley

Very curious how this all will develop. PoS coins depend on the strength of the community and you seem to have a good one going here.
897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt marketing & promotion :: Recovering from Berlin Bitcoin conference on: February 17, 2014, 09:01:35 PM
Well, I should probably disclose you a little secret about one of my marketing activities - http://bitstickers.net/ will print Nxt stickers in the next wave, so in a few weeks anyone could purchase very cheap Nxt stickers and buy them with Bitcoins, later probably also by Nxt. I have already sent them many logos, vectors, etc

You sneaky.......I was just thinking about precisely the same thing.

NXT stickers for sale!

Like bitstickers, btw, do u have any idea when the NXT stuff will be available ?

You can still sell your own Smiley
Stickers are always saleable  Grin

Here's how the 100k Nxt matching funds will work for the Songs of Love charity (just received clarification):

"Whenever you reach 100K before the deadline, I'll immediately top it up with another 100K
If you reach an amount less than 100K by the deadline, I'll top it up with the same amount.

Cheers!"

I've asked the anonymous donor if I could send the PM to Damelon as well (that way he can back my story).  Just sent, I've asked Damelon to verify this is in fact the case! I'm all about transparency while also protecting the requests of others.

I can confirm this once again.  Smiley

So!

ANY DONATION MADE UP TILL WE REACH 100,000 NXT WILL BE DOUBLED!!

When did you announce this domain? Yesterday? Give it a little more time.. not everyone is watching nxt development constantly. That said, msin offered a very generous bounty of 250K. I suppose this is more than sufficient for your needs?

This!
I sincerely think (as stated in the other thread) that this got snowed under in this thread (as usual Wink ).
