there are many ways to take care of vitamin d deficiency, aren't there? quite a weird claim. can't they also send an ecuadorian doctor to him for a visit?

Not really that weird after being stuck in a building for two years. You want to produce the vitamin D naturally.

It also states he may have heart and lung problems. It could just be a reason for him to move locations as well.

Can't be too healthy being stuck inside for 2 years, not sure what his plan is but I'm fairly sure as soon as he steps outside he'll be arrested.

Always imagined he'd try and do a runner...

Ferguson police got military gear free from the Pentagon through 90s ‘War on Drugs’ program

"Under a federal program, local police departments like the St. Louis County Police in Ferguson, Missouri are arming themselves with tactical military gear that they obtain for free from the Pentagon.

Talking Points Memo reported on the connection between U.S. police militarization and the federal 1033 program, approved in 1992, which established a materiel pipeline between the military and local police forces. The program was originally a component of the War on Drugs.

In response to what was seen in the 90s as a mushrooming threat of inner city gang violence fueled by the narcotics trade, wrote Newsweek‘s Taylor Wofford, “the 101st Congress in 1990 enacted the National Defense Authorization Act. Section 1208 of the NDAA allowed the Secretary of Defense to “transfer to Federal and State agencies personal property of the Department of Defense, including small arms and ammunition, that the Secretary determines is— (A) suitable for use by such agencies in counter-drug activities; and (B) excess to the needs of the Department of Defense.” It was called the 1208 Program. In 1996, Congress replaced Section 1208 with Section 1033.”

According to a 2014 report by the ACLU known as “War Comes Home,” the military has supplied around $4.3 billion in refurbished equipment to U.S. police forces since the project began, with approximately $450 million in equipment and ammunition being distributed in 2013 alone. Newsweek noted that the entire annual budget for the St. Louis County Police Department is less than $200 million.

“By providing law enforcement agencies with surplus military equipment free of charge, the NDAA encourages police to employ military weapons and military tactics,” wrote Wofford.

Police who are suited up for combat, though, often end up treating civilian populations as the enemy, say critics of the practice.

Kara Dansky, senior counsel for the ACLU, told TPM, “It’s a culture of militarism. We determined that the police in America have become excessively militarized. It’s dangerous because it undermines public trust in law enforcement. It makes it difficult for them to effectively police their communities.”

The 1033 program, Dansky said, suffers from a lack of transparency and accountability. Often police officers do not receive the same type of exacting safety training that military personnel who use the same equipment receive.

“The program contains a built-in incentive,” she said to TPM’s Dylan Scott. “As these local police departments receive this equipment, there are no meaningful constraints on their ability to use it.”

Possessed of such vastly superior firepower, she said, police are unlikely to show restraint. “If all you have is a hammer,” she said, “everything looks like a nail.”

Angry protesters have filled the streets of Ferguson nightly since Saturday. The Associated Press reported that some protesters have resorted to throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at police and firing weapons.

St. Louis County Police Chief Thomas Jackson ordered all media out of the area and the FAA has created a no-fly zone around the city for media and other aircraft. Officers have arrested and released reporters from the Washington Post and Huffington Post.

On Wednesday night, police fired tear gas and riot-stopping projectiles at media teams that were attempting to document the violence.

Thursday afternoon, President Barack Obama held a press conference about the violence in Ferguson, appealing for calm.

“There is never an excuse for violence against police or those who would use this tragedy as a cover for vandalism or looting,’ said Obama. He also called for greater police transparency and cooperation".

Thanks for the info, I was thinking about installing a few addons to TBB (like Adblock Edge and Cryptocat) but I've read on the Tor site that to do not recommend it. Could you clarify whether it is safe to install addons, is there anyway to check to see if they are leaking any identifying information?

Nope, god doesn't exist. Scary to think there are adults still believing in fairy tales  Shocked

If he did exist, why would he pass judgement on nations? Wouldn't god have 'created' the nations anyway?

ha, i also liked john carter.. did anyone else enjoy that movie?

John Carter was a pleasant surprise for me. I never expected much fun out of it but somehow it was worthwhile.

Yeah I liked John Carter, never understood why it got so slated by the critics.

Not really watched any movies for a while, looking forward to Sin City 2 getting released.

887  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Republicans Vs Democrats: Who is more likely to embrace bitcoin more? on: August 13, 2014, 12:49:23 PM
Bitcoin would be excellent for Republican campaign donations, the Koch brothers would be able to donate $millions directly rather than using their 'non-profit' organizations.

That sucks dude, if I were you I'd sell your rig and cancel the preorder asap (assuming you can still get a refund). The sooner you do that, the sooner you'll be able to reinvest your money back into btc.

Well been as most of the infrastructure in Iraq has nearly been completely destroyed with little or no access to electricity or the internet, I doubt many Iraqi's are in a position to buy any btc.
891  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any Legit Sites To Earn Free Bitcoins on: August 13, 2014, 11:40:24 AM
I can see there are lots of signature campaign, maybe you can also join.
I have also heard about such kind of signature campaign. But i don't think it is a good way of earning BTC. Through this kind of campaign you can earn very small amount of BTC.

Not entirely true, I get paid 0.05 btc every month with my current sig campaign, not a huge amount but still adds up to something. Only have to make 50 posts a month which isn't much hassle been as I'm posting on the forum anyway.
892  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchanges on: August 13, 2014, 11:33:31 AM
BTC-E is a decent exchange for btc, when trading alts I usually go for either Cryptsy or Bittrex. There are lots of other smaller exchanges you could try but personally I would just use the larger exchanges as they are less likely to be hacked etc

Determined to start saving more in the future, might even build up an alt portfolio though I need to do a lot of research first.
894  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Would you continue using bitcoin if your country banned it completely? on: August 05, 2014, 08:55:14 AM
Governments are becoming less relevant by the day, couldn't care less if they 'banned' bitcoin in my country. Worse that could happen would be that cryptos go underground...

Rick Perry shrugs off 1,700 deaths in Gaza: ‘War is a horrible thing’ so people die

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) on Sunday suggested that 1,700 civilians who had died in Gaza — including children — were legitimate targets for Israelis because Hamas was using them as human “shields.”

Last week, Perry called on the United States to provide “vigorous support” for Israel so CNN’s Candy Crowley began her weekly Sunday show by inviting him to share his thoughts on the ongoing fighting in Gaza.

“When you look at 1,700-plus civilian deaths in Gaza — the large majority of which are civilians we are told — what is your thought about that, what is your reaction to that?” Crowley wondered.

“War is a horrible thing,” Perry responded without emotion. “There are individuals who lose their lives in war.”

“But when we have a fairly good understanding that Hamas is actually using their citizens as shields, at that particular point in time, it loses a lot of the the power, if you will, from my perspective,” the Texas Republican continued. “When you look back at Hamas’ statements that they will not be satisfied until Israel is wiped off the face of the Earth, then you start understanding the mentality a little bit better of a terrorist organization like Hamas.”

'Decodes'... to what? Is it simply able to read the DNA base pair sequences or is it going to extract any actual information (rather than just converting the data) or even draw any conclusions from that?
Yeah I kind of assumed that it would be able to 'extract' information and identifiers for current and future genetic diseases etc. Not entirely sure how a small USB powered chip would be able to process all of that information.
