881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum Mining Rig [200k Investment][ on: December 17, 2017, 06:42:33 AM
You are much better of with RX 570/580's on a cost/hash for mining ETH. Much better avalability as well. New lower power ver. 008C 6-pin risers use 5W less compared to ver. 006C. That will add up fast with that many cards.

Dual mining offsets a good part of the electrical bill is the way I look at it. If you just mine and sell what you have immediately it won't add to much more additional  profit, but if you HODL, the coins you mined can certainly make it MUCH more profitable to dual vs single coin mining. Dual mining is just utilizing the unsused clock cycles on the GPU to generate additional profit. GPU's today use reliable solid state components, other than the increased heat, IMO there is no more wear and tear except for maybe on the fans that need to spin faster to cool the additional heat from dual mining. That's why it's also important to use supplemental air flow like fans to help cool the cards.
883  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 3 x RX580 rig (need advice for my first build) on: December 16, 2017, 09:05:31 PM
You are going to want a better CPU once you start adding more cards on that board. At a minimum I would go with a Pentium G4400. If you plan to run Windows, a spinning drive will work, but I would get a 128 GB SSD, which is much faster for the amount of virtual RAM you need to set for a mining rig and is also much more power efficient. A 650 W PSU will likely not have enough PCI-E connectors for you to run 3 RX 580's, I would recommend going with at least an EVGA 750 W G2/P2 or an even better option is an EVGA 850 W G2. Those have 4 PCI-E connectors and it will give you more overhead on the PSU, so it runs efficiently. For risers I always use PCI-E 6-pin risers. They have more stable power with four capacitors, a voltage regulator and a better connector compared to Sata/Molex risers. For cooling I would skip the 120mm fans and put a 20" box fan directly in front of the cards instead. It's much cheaper and efficient at cooling the rig.

New lower power Ver. 008C 6-pin risers:

884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Rig Shopping Lists - any thoughts on: December 16, 2017, 05:06:15 PM
Could someone sell me a reason to buy the RX 580 8GB variants? It seems like the 580 8gb variants consume much more power but only gives like what 1 or 2 additional MH?
I don't see how its worth and I can't seem to understand why people buy it when the RX 570 variant is also available and is cheaper.

Dual mining ETH+DCR the RX 580 8GB will use ~140 W and hash at ~30 MH/s ETH ~850 MH/s DCR compared to the RX 570 4 GB cards that will use ~100 W and hash at ~28.5 MH/s ETH ~750 MH/s DCR. So the power difference dual mining is ~40 W for an additional ~1.5 MH/s on ETH and ~100 MH/s on DCR with the RX 580.

At the current price and difficulty the extra 1 MH/s ETH + 100 MH/s DCR at 40 W of power adds up to an extra ~$2.40 a month, so basically the extra hash should make up for the extra cost of ~$40 between the RX 570 4GB and RX 580 8GB of over time. The RX 580 8GB cards typically come with better memory and will also have a better resale value.

AFAIK, for the most part Nvidia cards don't work with PCI-E adapters and expanders.
886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best budget 6GPU motherboard? on: December 16, 2017, 11:10:28 AM
You are really over-thinking this. In reality, any motherboard with PCI-E v1.1 slots and up will work. Prior to this year I was mining on a Dell XPS 700 with PCI-E v1.1 solts from 2007. It worked flawless with up to four cards and I still use it as a test bench. What matters is you want a motherboard that is known to support the number of cards you want for the rig, without giving you tons of grief and it fits your budget. In that respect, the ASRock H81 Pro BTC, Biostar TB85 and TB250 are among the best known choices you can make for a good 6-7 card mining rig OOBE . There are thousands of these motherboards currently in use as can be seen on the ethOS motherboard stats page.

http://ethosdistro.com/versions

I have a Biostar TB85 and it's been flawless with up to 7 cards, including mixing AMD and Nvidia cards. I also have a 13 card AMD rig on the ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ and it's been rock solid as well. The PCI-E slots being too close together is a dumb design flaw, but it's nothing that can't be easily solved by wrapping the riser x1 connector with two pieces of electrical tape on the back. The ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ also gets my vote as the best mining motherboard currently in production as the Asus B250 mining expert motherboard  is neutered by design in requiring you to have a minimum of 6 P106 mining cards if you want to run over 13 cards.
887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New mining rig using EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 on: December 15, 2017, 05:29:51 PM
The EVGA 1000 W G2 comes with 4 single 8-pin and 2 8-pin + 6 pin pigtail VGA cables.

https://www.evga.com/products/Specs/PSU.aspx?pn=66c8cae4-9a09-4476-8e75-f7b660159eb9

If you wan to avoid using any Sata/Molex connecotrs for the risers, you can use a 16 AWG 8-pin to dual 6+2 pins splitter cable with the single 8-pin PSU cables to power the card and riser on the same card.

18 AWG cable is only rated for a 10A capacity (120 W at 12V) and is too thin for using with 8-pin connectors that are rated for 150 W, but it's fine for 6-pin VGA connectors that are rated for 75 W.

This is what happens when you use 18 AWG cable with a 8-pin connector on a RX 580 when dual mining!

888  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Newbie RX580 questions on: December 15, 2017, 04:46:44 PM
The Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580's are great cards. Easy to mod and they get good hash while running cool. I have both the Special Edition and the non-SE Nitro+ 8GB RX 580's. I get the best performance and like the non SE (black shroud) version better since I don't like the blue LED fans that can't be turned off on the SE version. The non SE is version is also cheaper and I get slightly better performance with the non SE cards.
889  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New mining rig using EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 on: December 15, 2017, 01:50:10 PM
A 1000 W G2 is enough for up to 5 RX 570's dual mining. If you undervolt the cards and reduce the power limit, a 5 card rig would be ~800 W at the wall dual mining. The EVGA 1000 W G2 has 6 PCI-E connectors. You can use 5 for the VGA power inputs and the other PCI-E connector with two 6-Pin risers using an 8-pin to dual 6+2 splitter cable.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Hot-Selling-PCI-E-6-pin-to-2x-6-2-pin-6-pin-8-pin-Power/32843508145.html

For the other 3 6pin risers you can use a 3 Sata or molex port on the PSU with a dual sata/molex to 6-pin PCI-E adapter cable. Only connect one riser to each PSU cable.

890  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Newbie RX580 questions on: December 15, 2017, 01:22:44 PM
The ASRock H81 Pro BTC is a good 6 card mining motherboard. You would need a LGA 1150 CPU, like the G1840 and DDR3 RAM. The RX 580 dual mining will use 130-140 W each, 140 x 6 = 840 W + ~50 W for each riser, 50 x 6 = 300 W. If you want to go with two power supplies, I would get an EVGA 1000 W P2 that has 6 PCI-E connectors as the primary PSU connected to the motherboard, all the risers and two RX 580. For the secondary PSU you can get an EVGA 750 W P2 with 4 PCI-E connectors for the other 4 RX 580 with a dual ATX splitter cable to join both PSU together.

891  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Did you experience fire/smoke issue? on: December 14, 2017, 01:31:50 PM
The risk is directly proportional to the coefficient of the organic matter in control of the rig.
892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Newbie RX580 questions on: December 14, 2017, 12:16:36 PM
No need for an i3 or 8GB of ram with a 6 card mining rig, it's just a waste of money. A Pentium like the G4400 and 4GB of DDR4 is enough. If you plan to run smOS or ethOS, then a 16GB USB 3.0 flash drive is enough. For running Windows 10, I would recommend a 128 GB SSD. Great choice on the PSU. An EVGA 1600 T2 has plenty of overhead for six RX 580's even with dual mining and with 9 PCI-E connectors, you can use 6 for the VGA power inputs and the other 3 for the 6-pin risers using a 8-pin to dual 6+2 -pin splitter cable.

893  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum solo mining on: December 14, 2017, 10:56:12 AM
Like I said, you need to point your miner towards the Geth rpc server ip address. There are lots of tutorials online. Solo mining is not something you should try unless you have lots of hash power and know what your doing or you may waste a lot of time and power with nothing to show for it. That's why pools like Ethpool are a better option for most.

Actually I am looking for build 1703.

Read in post here that H81 might give GPU detection issue for more that 2 GPUs in Win10 non-1703 update.
Also read in Reddit post that Win10 FC is stable.
I am trying to get 1703 but couldn't get 1703.

If you know 1703 installation link then please let me know.

Thanks Smiley

895  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum solo mining on: December 14, 2017, 10:00:51 AM
You can definetley solo mine ETH with 100 AMD RX 570/580 GPU's. With 3 GH/s it would take about a week on average to find a block.

https://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/ethereum-mining-calculator/?h=2900&p=600.00&pc=0.10&pf=0.00&d=1660403842420990&r=3.00000000&er=0.04498226&btcer=17207.36000000&hc=0.00

You would need to run the geth rpc client and connect Ethminer pount to your rpc server.

http://cryptomining-blog.com/tag/eth-solo-mining/

For most people though, a pool like Ethpool.org is a better option. On Ethpool you accumulate credits towards a full block payout and only receive a payout once you accumulate enough credits to be the first in line at the top of the payout list for the next block found by the pool. Once you reach the top, you receive the next full block payout of ~3 ETH plus an Uncle payout if it's an Uncle block.

It's like solo mining, but you don't lose credit for the work you did if you don't find a block, like you do with solo mining. You also have the benefit of being able to estimate when you will receive a payout by looking up your wallet address on the miner stats page.
896  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Where do you go for news and info on mining? on: December 13, 2017, 05:14:59 PM
YouTube has lots of great channels with good info. BitsBeTrippin is a well-rounded channel with tons of info on mining and Crypto in general. BuriedOne is another good mining channel. For coin analysis I like Cryptoverse, CliffOnCrypto and Tplusd. CryptoNews is good for trading analysis.
897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: question about Sapphire R. NITRO+ RX 570 4gb or Sapphire RadeonPULSE RX 580 4gb on: December 13, 2017, 04:12:53 PM
Besides being slightly faster in ETH, RX 580 has more compute units and is better for dual mining compared to the RX 570. The RX 580 is about 100-150 MH/s faster on DCR. Sapphire Nitro+ cards have a bigger heatsink and better cooling than Sapphire Pulse, which is a smaller card with a closed shroud design. The Nitro+ also has a dual Bios.
898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Explanation of Whattomine.com on: December 13, 2017, 03:47:50 PM
Estimated Rewards is how many coins per day you can expect at the current difficulty, if it were to stay the same (it won't). It's based on the hash rate you put in and your power costs don't affect it.

Estimated Rewards 24h. is the average number of coins per day you can expect based on the average difficulty over the past 24 hours.
899  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BIOSTAR TB85 worth buying? on: December 13, 2017, 11:58:09 AM
The Biostar TB85 is one of the best LGA 1150 mining motherboards. It's cheap and simple to get working with 6+ cards. If you look at the motherboard statistics for ethOS, the TB85 is one of the most popular boards currently in use.

http://ethosdistro.com/versions

I have one and it's been rock solid with up to 7 AMD cards using a PCI-E expander on the last PCI-E 1x slot. For the most part, Nvidia cards are not compatible with PCI-E expanders.
900  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CPU only coins do they really exist? on: December 13, 2017, 07:01:27 AM
Most new algorithms start off as CPU only (including BTC), until it becomes profitable enough to make it feasible for someone to take the time to develop a GPU miner for it.
