881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Only good coins are listed on top exchange? on: September 25, 2023, 11:39:48 PM

1. That project must have a massive trading volume.
Just feeling that the conspiracy that runs in our minds should just be an ordinary imagination. If not, I think trading volume can be manipulated to look massive.

2. That exchange invested in that project.
There is a shady investment called pump and dump. If any exchange involves in this, it will look more genuine.

3. Most of the other top exchanges list that project.
Nice, but the project owners may allege that they don't have money to list in multiple exchanges simultaneously. It may come one after the other.

4. The project pays listing fees.
If not paying $100,000 will deny me $1M dollars, I have to pay even if it takes borrowing.
882  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mixin Network just got hacked on: September 25, 2023, 11:24:51 PM
This is crazy, I just happen to read the news right now and it’s really touching, how was this even possible, taught this was suppose to be some kind of safe, if a safe can be hacked and customers fund moved like this which means the said safe is not entirely safe, customers should just be in control of their own asset security as don’t hand it over to anyone else, this is really big and I never expected such to happen to a safe.
Mate, you should not be surprised by the hack. I have always said that no matter how secured we think any platform is, provided that it is on the internet, it is hackable. When mixin did their review campaign, I saw that participants were trying to go forth and back trying to scan codes, sign signatures from one device to another in order to make withdrawals. Also, I learnt that it uses multi sig wallet technology to hold funds which makes it more secured and yet it is hacked. This has made me believe that most of these hacks are from indoors.

Let’s hope something good comes out of it as the team behind it are planing on addressing affected customers, made a means for refunding will be possible or they can sort things out.
They have realised an official statement towards this and I think they hinted how to handle the victims but it wasn't elaborate. They promised to make another and well detailed publication on 25th September. Has anyone read the publication?
883  Economy / Speculation / Re: Share your opinion on the market. on: September 25, 2023, 11:04:42 PM
Here I share my chart

According to my image, the Bitcoin price would be testing the near resistance on 30K and if those line break 36K is the next resistance tho we still early guys accumulate more hahaha

Yes, and often the market traps and creates a sensation then just drops like last night and don't forget that Jerome Powell will announce the Fed's "Fairly Close" to Target Interest Rates again and get ready for volatility to come again and The Fear & Greed Index 38.
This is actually the time that I have much confusion about the bitcoin price and what saves me in this time is to be very attentive to the fundamentals. If the chart seems confusing to be, I'll rely on the news to make decisions.
With my little knowledge of the chart, I have seen that bitcoin price has consolidated much, it has gotten enough momentum to move. Put I am not certain the direction it will take. Whether it will push or retract more to about $24k before it will be able to pull more.
The support is becoming firm but the resistance is becoming weak, so there is a possible upward movement of the price rather than downwards.
884  Economy / Economics / Re: Another Coup in Africa: What is the economic effect? on: September 25, 2023, 10:39:53 PM
After the Middle East, Africa is the most tensed era in the world, i think. This region is full of natural resources, and major powers use this regional instability to get these minerals cheap. They can be the producers of gold, diamonds, silver, and other minerals that have different uses in our economy, but we don't eat them. So as long as people are fed, there won't be much trouble on this globe. I think the Russia-Ukraine war caused more damage to the world economy.
It is long overdue for Africans to fight for themselves and having these coups is one of the ways to fight for their freedom.  I may be asked if these countries are still being colonised till date but the answer is no. But if you look inwardly you will still understand that Africans are indirectly still under colonial rule and this time it is caused by their selfish and greedy leaders.

The mineral resources of the Africans are not refined in Africa, rather it is transported to Europe and refined there, the remnants of the refined products would be transported back to the African countries and sold to them in an expensive prices.
The corrupt African leaders rig themselves into power and their European counterparts will justify the act in order to unjustly continue benefiting from the gross impunity.

886  Economy / Economics / Re: Small Scale Business Ideas on: September 24, 2023, 11:58:32 PM
You actually asked a dual question in one thread, I'll however try to answer you by quoting each clause I want to reply .

However, to start investing we need capital. How do you find capital for investment?
  • We raise capital for small scale business by saving up little by little
  • We raise capital by borrowing from friends and family
  • You can also raise capital by borrowing from the bank
  • You may consider partnership with someone who has the capital

Do you have a small business idea? or business experience? I want to hear it
Small scale business ideas is not a universal standard. It is highly subjective. What works in your country and neighbourhood might not work in mine.
887  Economy / Economics / Re: The impact of war on global economy. on: September 24, 2023, 11:33:46 PM
Everything is being affected by the war. The price of commodities and as in everything has increased and that's due to the demand of oil that's also being used in war and the same goes to the affected areas where oil is being produced.

While there have been a lot of resources and sources of oil, you know that when there are events like this. They just make the prices balloon because they'll reason out it's because plainly of the war.

On for the affected land masses of the war, the decline of prices of the lands there are massively happening.
You have just summarised the OP unintentionally. Everything is affected by war. I haven't witnessed a full blown up war in my country but I have watched in the television. I have also read in the news and also been told by friends in the affected countries.  Tbh, if it is possible, war needs to be avoided by all means. Op hurriedly listed a few things that are affected by war, but I might decide to elaborate but let me just categorise the effects of war in the economy.
  • Internal disruption
  • External effects
  • Natural disruption
In the internal, only the countries at war will suffer as there will be no good food and freedom of movement by the citizens.
In the External, you will understand that neighbouring countries and other countries that depends on the affected country for trades and other international relations will suffer. While the natural effects talks about the environment disorder which affects even the nature and animals. If possible, leave peaceably with all men and shun war.
888  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading Psychology and tips on: September 24, 2023, 11:05:03 PM
Interesting but what would be more interesting would be to know for sure if you really are a trader and also one of the few who earn money in the long term, because what you have written can be done by gathering information on the internet and some experience in trading but without being a consistent winner like the vast majority. Seeing the few posts that you have written in this section since you registered and that in none of them you talk about specific trades or put charts, I think it is the latter.
Trading is actually not for everyone but that does not mean that it is not encouraging for people to learn the trading skill by knowing what is happening in the cryptocurrency charts and the market overall. I am not a good trader because at a time I stopped trading, but I have ideas of trading. So if I decide to be writing journals on trading I can write as many as you can think about and you will enjoy reading them, but in the real life, if I am given a system and asked to tread with some certain capital. I am certainly going to blow up the capital if care is not taken. So this shows that there is clear difference between theory and practical. You can read about it, but if you have not praticalize it and it works for you, you dare not brag about it that you are a professional trader. Many good traders do not even have time to write many articles about how to succeed in trading.
889  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: chart reading and prediction on: September 24, 2023, 10:48:51 PM
everyone on twitter, insta reel and youtube is making prediction related to different cryptos based on chart lines. Do you still believe these chart reading?
Obviously there are too many chart reading on the internet. Most of these readings are not close to being accurate and were just generated based on unrealistic values. It is a few of these very reading that are correct and near the estimated prediction. And that is why it is called speculation and no one uses that as a fundamental basics for their investment. The best way to survive, is to listen to all the craps and then do your analysis by yourself. With your own research you come to your own conclusion of making any decision that is relating the cryptocurrency.
If you are not very good with the charts, atleast try to be knowledgeable with the fundamentals, so that you will not be taken totally unaware by the market.
890  Other / Meta / Re: Request for sent merit edit button on: September 24, 2023, 07:11:24 PM
Nice to see. It seems that this 11 merits instead on 1 has happened so many times in the forum. This may not be the exact thread I am referring to. That one happened between lower ranked members which made the forum members more skeptical to believe it was unintentionally. Also, from the picture above it seems the one involving Sujonali happened far back 2019. I wasn't in the forum as of then.
This is a case of making a mistake and then blaming the forum for not having this feature, this request will be ignored so people will not be too lazy to check and double-check their actions If this happens to me I will just take it and blame myself not from forum's lack of of feature.
This is not about mistakes. It usually happen to newbies sending merits the first time. Anyone not familiar with the forum can make same mistake. I also made a merit sending mistake in another way. After sending merits to a user, I refreshed the page and the action happened twice but I didn't complain. If need be, his request should be put into consideration but it is not among the pressing issues in the forum.
891  Other / Meta / Re: Homage the Bitcointalk Heroes - Campaign for better post quality on: September 23, 2023, 11:58:27 PM
It may be correct to rename the title of OP to make it capture that the statistics is monthly and then you can try to be updating this thread monthly. It is a nice thread and people who are at the top of the list are well known contributors in the forum. No doubt they are quality posters. I would have appreciated the thread more if it was intended to discover newbie quality posters but good enough LoyceV has a thread that discovers newbie quality posters. He named it "The future of bitcointalk "

In general any post that encourages quality posts is encouraging and as long as I know 1miau is know for making such kinds of post.
892  Other / Meta / Re: Do discussions always have to be serious? on: September 23, 2023, 11:50:44 PM
I have had several posts deleted or reported because (maybe) they were considered off topic even though my intention was to be a little funny or joking so that the discussion was not stiff and not too serious. Do you think discussions should always be that serious?

Come on buddy... sometimes we need a little humor to face difficult realities  Grin
There are people who advocates that every topic should be serious and every discussion towards that topic should be strictly on that topic, else  it could be tagged as an off-topic discussion. But someone like me do not actually digress from the topic, but I add some iota of humor to my conversations, because it is where I derive my pleasure being in the forum. However, I have not got my posts deleted just because I am trying to be somewhat humorous about the post.
Op, can you just copy one of the deleted messages, let's see how it looks like whether you greatly went off topic or you were trying to be humorous.
893  Other / Meta / Re: Request for sent merit edit button on: September 23, 2023, 11:40:48 PM
I think I have seen this kind of situation here in the forum. Although I cannot recall how it actually happened. All I can recall is that the lucky beneficiary of the unintended merit came back and handed the user some merits from the smerits. I may be wrong about this but I can remember Lovesmayfamilis also wrote on that thread. I don't know if she can remember what I am trying to recall.
Meanwhile, I have in other scenarios read where people sent number of merits than they intended, although this always happen with sending 11 merits instead of 1. This is my first time seeing the mistake of 2 and 22.

Op, I support your idea of getting a second confirmation before meriting. That is always applicable when actions are irreversible as in the case of merit sending.
894  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you feel when you look at your first Bitcoin wallet? on: September 22, 2023, 10:33:39 PM

Just recently, I was tempted to check my first ever Bitcoin wallet to see what I have done in the past. I was so depressed seeing the volume of Bitcoin that have passed through my wallet without me saving a reasonable portion of it.

I have the feeling that many forum users too have similar experience; do kindly share just maybe I can feel a little better knowing that I'm not a lone.

Many people have different stories how they came to accept bitcoin and all the stories being different but they are greatly related. As like your story, you wanted to send money across the bother but the fee was high and you opted for an alternative which is bitcoin. Nice to know that bitcoin has been and is still solving real time problems for people. When you checked your first wallet and understood the amount amount of bitcoin that passed through it, you were pained that you didn't save enough. But then the bitcoin you owned and spent was for a good purpose or for business.
How about someone like me whose first bitcoin transaction was a pure scam. I was scammed and I made the payment through bitcoin. If I visit that waller, I feel regret and wished I saved the bitcoin instead of sending same to a scammer.

But you need to understand that in 5yrs time, we will still regret of the bitcoin we are spending today. Do we have options, we cannot save all, we must survive from it.
895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Gives the poor an Opportunity. on: September 22, 2023, 10:03:38 PM
I can't say Bitcoin levels the playing for everybody but it gives people an opportunity to have an investment. People that ordinarily wouldn't have been able to have any investment at all.
With Bitcoin, you can just buy with any amount you have and sell whenever and however you want.
I for one wouldn't have had any investment at this point in my life if not for Bitcoin.

Well, the paragraph I quoted above vindicated you in this article. Atleast, you acknowledge that bitcoin does not level the playing ground for everyone. However it gives an opportunity for everyone to invest and grow at their pace. If we want to be very honest to ourselves, bitcoin at this time may not be able to make anyone a millionaire, except the person invests heavily during the bear and waits for the bull.
Bitcoin only made the early adopters millionaires even from nothing apart from believing the system and mining it or buying with a little money. Those good times are gone for ever. But the good thing is that as you noted, bitcoin still presents opportunity for everyone.

Some people frown at the fact that Bitcoin is being termed an investment because Bitcoin was created to be a currency. They feel Bitcoin might lose its nature as a currency if it continues being an investment. I don't agree with that, but I respect their opinions.
Bitcoin can be both a currency and an investment

It seems you have discussed two issued in one topic. Will it not be nice you create a separate thread with this topic of bitcoin being an investment assets or currency.
896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin dominace on: September 22, 2023, 09:25:53 PM
Even without knowing about this infographic people already understand the Bitcoin dominance in relation to altcoins. But what really happens is that people still believe the altcoin for some certain cases which is related to gambling. If you check out the infographic posted above, you can see that a time comes when altcoins dump beyond expectations. This is actually the bad time. On the good time, you will understand that altcoins will pump very well. Instead of gambling with this excessive pump and excessive dump people have realised that going the Bitcoin way, which is normal increase and decreases is the answer to accumulating wealth in the cryptocurrency industry.
897  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Challenges that can deprive/ delay one from hodli for long. on: September 22, 2023, 08:56:35 PM
Snipped

It's a pity that as many as possible are the challenges that can lead us to release what we have hodl when tge situation turns around against our wish that we have to release instead of holding the more, most of these are as a result of unforseen circumstances that are not negligible forus to do without, while some have been that lucky that they always hold their investment till when it is due for sell, no matter how dip the market is or how they have been obligated for a release of asset.
The way that holding is being discussed here in the forum will make you think that that is the possible and the most reliable way to invest in Bitcoin. I do not consider holding for a very long time as the best way to invest in Bitcoin. I also do not consider dollar cost averaging as the best method for investing in Bitcoin. However, I do both of the above just because I do not have the capacity to do otherwise

If I so much understand the chart and I have a very clear vision of where there will be deep and when there will be upward trend, I will not continue to hold on for a very long time. I will always choose to sell and rebuy at the low price. I will continue this process until the next bull run and I will make more profits than someone holding tight both in rise and in fall. Just because I cannot predict to some comprehensible percentage what happens in the market, I have no option but to follow the hodl syndrome.
898  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: No matter the pressure don't release on: September 22, 2023, 08:35:25 PM
Anyone that is using P2P in the centralised exchange should be very careful dealing with other parties. Besides, such as changes as binance it is always on notice that customers especially the one releasing the coin not release until they had received their money in bank account. If the buyer have shown evidence that they have made payment and you that is the seller have shown evidence that no money has dropped into your account, the exchange customer care can not pressure you to release the coin. They always give such a note and they will support you to hold the coin until everything is resolved. It is fine that your own case went fine, and nobody was scammed. Anyone make deals in the cryptocurrency industry should be smart.
899  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should newbies invest with small capital in BTC on: September 22, 2023, 08:15:56 PM
I tried to give a very precise answer to your question, but I understood that there can never be a uniform and a standard answer to your question, which should be used as a yardstick for every newbie. Your question is totally subjective in the sense that the income of every newbie is not the same. A newbie whose monthly income is about $10,000 can invest 10% of it, which is a good investment in Bitcoin. Whereas another newbie whose monthly income is $200, if that particular newbie also invest 10% of it we can say that it is not much enough to give a tangible profit. So it is better approached based on what you earn and also what you are able to lose. In as much as you are a newbie, going small and having experience of the markets and increasing later should be the best method for every newbie.
900  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Government vs Bitcoin on: September 19, 2023, 07:36:57 AM
I think the main reason is Cryptocurrencies can be used to hide assets and income, making it challenging for governments to collect taxes. This could potentially reduce government revenue, which they rely on for public services and infrastructure.

One of the reasons but not really the main reason. Other reasons why government fight bitcoin are:
  • Inability for the government to control bitcoin.  What the government cannot control is  threat to it.
  • The volatile nature of bitcoin
  • Difficulty in taxing bitcoin transactions
  • Tendency of using bitcoin for bad deals
Among others. But if government will understudy bitcoin an crypto and learn how to deal with it, they will make so much money from crypto.
