Due to other commitments in life I haven't really been keeping upto date with what has been happening in the world of Bitcoin for the last year and a half. What all have I missed? What all is happening on August 1St and will it have a negative affect on bitcoin?

I am in the same boat as the op. I can remember talking about bitcoin years ago and not doing anything about it. Then a couple of years ago started going on faucets to start off. I should of just started buying then as the hours wasted on faucets didn't equal what I could of bought with an hours pay. As for alt coins all that needs to happen is for a coin to become more mainstream than bitcoin. We are already seeing this with eth and people who missed the original bitcoin voyage are on that one

I will definitely have to look into this. I like a good flutter on the horses and gambling with bitcoin adds to the rush. However it is really easy to be doing really well and then to lose it all just know when to walk away

That would be interesting if bitcoin reached that sort of prices, alot of people would be millionaires. Even some people with small holdings that sort of amounts could be life changing.

For me I think the biggest mistake made by newbies is not getting involved sooner. I started only a little under two years ago but kind of lost time and didn't really have the money to invest. I spent/wasted alot of time on faucets but it gave me a start of my bitcoin. I am now starting my crypto currency journey again.

I don't think bitcoin will replace the dollar to many people use it compared to bitcoin when we reach a equilibrium of people using both it maybe possible.

I feel that if people were spending more bitcoin than holding it it would be more commercially viable. The only problem we could have is if someone comes up with a new alt coin that can truly rival bitcoin and a vast majority of people buy into it. Like most of us I am holding but only because I can't use bitcoin as easily as I would like to for general every day purchases.

I use a mixture of ways to store my bitcoin I wouldn't want to be one of those ones that lost everything. I have some on paper wallet some on a wallet on phone and some on a online pc.

I am happy not to know who he really is. He created bitcoin based on anonymity and by being anonymous himself makes bitcoin even more interesting. We are all satoshi's children.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were quite a few Bitcoin is a pretty safe investment. With large amounts of money it would be considerably safe to invest in. Buy low sell high, repeat don't need alot of profit to put in the pot as long as it is constantly gaining.

I don't really understand why we keep comparing bitcoin to fiat? In all honesty we all want bitcoin to stand on its own aside from fiat, spend it like it was fiat. I can see your point of how it does get confusing as we always try to rationalise how much something costs in real money. 0.00whatever works for me. If anything add more.

I think it will take a while to earn 1 bitcoin. I would be quicker earning fiat and just buying bitcoin with my real life earnings.

In my opinion yes and no. They are all crypto currency. All have a value but alot less than bitcoin more people have invested in bitcoin and the others are just trying to replicate it's success.

There is no way this debt can ever be paid. At what point do they file for bankruptcy? I don't think replacing the financial system with anything will solve it. There is a storm coming and when it lands it's not going to be pretty.

These bets were so close. Hopefully you manage to do it next time. It's a funny old thing gambling. Love how it is possible to bet and rolling your winnings onto the next bet is a smart move, just unlucky it did not work out this time.
