yeah, some people who develope things are terrible at pricing. What would anyone possibly buy that for at that price. Maybe sell to the Gov.

lol.... the chances of a Monarch now seem about as likely as me turning dirt into gold.....

Actually, there are companies turning dirt into gold. The gold content in the dirt is so small that they just dig the dirt and process it to get the gold out of it.
883  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: YES, you can get a REFUND from BFL on: August 22, 2013, 09:26:47 PM
So, I just emailed BFL and requested a refund for two singles I ordered.   Let's see what the response is to that...

i did that a couple of weeks ago, i got the standard "No" form letter. I really want my equipment more than the money though so i let it ride for now.
884  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Should we be concerned about EM emissions? on: August 22, 2013, 09:23:56 PM
Should we be concerned about EM emissions? Hell yeah, your cell phone is melting you brain. that is why people text instead of talking, to get the thing away from their head!

Actually, seriously? In theory, maybe, in reality not likely. If the equipment isn't interfering with other equipment you should be ok, just don't run you erupter under your pillow. Ghz is microwave territory. Shocked

it seems starting hash rate is partially determined based on Temperature at startup. so yeah, let it cool. some people have been refrigerateing them prior to turn on.
Hmm, refrigerating doesn't sound like a good idea. Wouldn't there be a problem with moisture?

*shrug* i only know what it read here. maybe they  put them in a plastic bag or frost free freezer. Pure water isn't a great conductor. It is the impurities in most water that causes problems. (doning protective vest)

Command prompt in windows.

Except I don't know how to rescan with a windows command prompt.

I assume that you are starting bitcoin-qt by clicking on a file or icon. look at the properties of what you are clicking on to find the full path to it. then open a command window and do a "cd" to where the file is. then, if i remember right typing: bitcoin-qt -rescan should run it.

Since upgrading to cgminer 3.4.0, my Jalapeno went from ~5.7 GH/s to ~5.5 GH/s. Should I let it cool down and restart it? I think something like that was discussed in this thread before.

Do the coupons have an expiration date (and thus needing to make a bunch of one device orders to keep them) or can I just order one at a time as I hit the required amount of Bitcoin?

Why bother with the coupon orders anyway? You can get them CHEAPER than the offer, without worry of an expiration, from other vendors. Do yourselves a favor and buy somewhere else, it is what I have been doing since this fiasco started.

So what then, by pissing and moaning and complaining, you hoped he would reward your behavior by giving you what you want and lower the price? I'm curious, just what price do you want to pay for these things?

I am currently paying .30-.31 btc for them, so Elutheria would have to offer a better price than that (as a coupon) for me to bite. Seriously, with razor sharp margins and near zero ROI, you would think this would be a no-brainer, instead you all say I am whining or complaining. Go figure...

Can he even buy them at that price? Buying here is the easier than the other places. No creating shipping labels, signing transactions etc. Maybe we are willing to pay a premium for that. Why would he bother with this if he only made a $1 on each one. If they don't sell i suspect the price will drop.

There is no debate!  He already clearly told you what you think you're reading is not the case!  Troll.

Yes, yes there is. The debate is on whether it was fair to award the purchasers who made purchases @ the lowest prices instead of award the purchasers who purchased at the highest prices. It was handled completely backwards... Those who purchased @ 2 btc were NOT rewarded but those who purchased for 1 or less btc were? In what twisted version of history is that even logical?

Now, why don't you address that? Because there is no way to address that issue LOGICALLY and THAT is why nobody wants to have the discussion.

"In what twisted version of history is that even logical?" perhaps the logic is based on difficulty increase and not purchase price? One could argue that those who paid the highest price had the longest time mining at lower difficulty? Just a thought.

To be a company, don't you have to make a profit?
893  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: A case study in entry-level mining on: August 21, 2013, 05:03:16 PM
I'm not sure what all the fuss about current profitability of one coin versus another is on these forums, unless you are selling the coins at the instant you generate them. Surely you'd hold on to them and then choose a time to sell them when it is profitable to do so? Or just hold on to them an speculate the price will take off like BTC has over the last 6 months.

If you were mining BTC back in 2009/2010 and they were worth a few cents each (where most of the altcoins are now) they wouldn't have looked so profitable then either!

Some of us actually spend them, like you know, Money.

Raspberry PI resources
...Additionally, there seems to be a limit of 49 BEs that one Pi can control at once.

Any idea what this limit is caused by?  If possible I'd like to have one unit controlling everything and if the limit is due to processing power I could opt for a cubieboard 2 or another open aio.

I've noticed my utility rate is significantly higher when I run my BEs off one of my WIN7 rigs that is mining LTC at the moment.. I think the RPi is a cool piece of gear, but no matter what I tweak on it, doesn't seem to be "even" or better than my W7 setup.  (45 BEs at the moment awaiting a couple more hubs)

The thing to remember with the Pi is the low power consumption. If mutiple Pi's use less power than one PC, that may be the way to go.

Once i have my starter kit in hand and mining, i'll be ordering more H boards. I need a bit of reality and less gambling. No slight meant on you Dave, just afraid of getting burned... again.

I know that you aren't big on the idea of selling Blades, but could you let us know when the new Blades become available? I'm sure Friedcat will let ya know. I have about 50 Erupters and just scratch my head at where i would put more. And, the price of Hubs is becoming significant as the price of Erupters drops. I think there will continue to be a market for erupters, but that the volume bought will decrease rapidly.
898  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoing Mining Contracts on eBay. on: August 20, 2013, 05:46:27 PM
um... uh... Embarrassed sadly, i paid $150 on eBay for a one week mining contract.  Embarrassed Obviously it wasn't one of my finer monents. The problem was that i caught up bidding on multiple erupter auctions and didn't catch that it was a 1 week contract and not an actual erupter.  Tongue I contacted the seller and asked that my bid be removed. We couldn't reach an agreement so the sale went through. My loss for being stupid. On the plus side, the seller felt sorry for me and turned it into a one month contract without me asking. Good guy, he didn't have to do that. You can be sure that i look close for that word "contract" now.  Roll Eyes

Ha! Whoa dude don't look at it like that.

Your "mistake" is actually good for Bitcoin. It's evidence to someone somewhere, like me, that Bitcoin is worth far more than what current exchanges show even if it was you unaware of the contract portion.

Besides you never know, this 1 month of mining with the 1 block erupter could yield you enough Bitcoins to retire with, cheapest retirement plan ever aye?

Would suck for the opposite to be the truer scenario that Bitcoins were never worth more than $30 bucks a pop.

I'm sure we would all feel that one in the morning.

Heh, that income was put toward more erupters, its all good. As for retirement plan. I'm already retired. This is just a hobby for me.
899  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoing Mining Contracts on eBay. on: August 19, 2013, 10:32:30 PM
You get a wide range of auction bids on eBay. I've seen coins sold for 300 or more and fractions sold for multiple times their exchange rate.

What seems to be the trend is 1 week contracts with 1 Erupter that closes at an average less than $10 but an instance of one of these has closed at $150.

What could that mean for the actual value of Bitcoin? Is it actually approximately $7500 a Bitcoin?

Or how about my recent experience seeing my auction for a contract of a brick with 10 erupters for 6 months close at a meer $150.

Would that mean that each Bitcoin is only actually worth $30 each?

But alas, the Bitcoin difficulty will only continue to exponentially raise, does that mean so will the exchange rates?

You can read more about my experience here.
