8801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we stress testing again? on: October 14, 2015, 11:25:38 PM
I think your graph is showing the fees in uBTC, it seems mislabelled as "BITS", which I think is some sorta failed altcoin: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=748045.0
Bits is another name for uBTC.

Beyond that, nice looking charts.  How did you generate those?
They are from statoshi.info.
8802  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Cyphering the TXs until they are confirmed on: October 14, 2015, 01:26:05 AM
I see two problems with this.
1) How would miners know the fee? They include transactions based on the fee.
2) How would the network know that the transaction is valid? If it isn't valid, they would be including an invalid transaction into the blockchain, which is not good.
8803  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum and google authentication problem. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP on: October 13, 2015, 09:36:50 PM
He should be able to restore his funds from the seed and go back to normal instead of 2FA according to the documentations : http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/2fa.html

Quote
Even if TrustedCoin is compromised or taken offline, your coins are secure as long as you still have the seed of your wallet. Your seed contains two master private keys in a 2-of-3 security scheme. In addition, the third master public key can be derived from your seed, ensuring that your wallet addresses can be restored. In order to restore your wallet from seed, select “wallet with two factor authentication”, as this tells Electrum to use this special variety of seed for restoring your wallet.

Oh, missed that.

OP do that and send ALL of your bitcoin to a normal wallet.
8804  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: scam accusation against user tautvilis on: October 13, 2015, 09:16:50 PM
The situation has been resolved. Tautvilis gave me the private keys and I was able to pay myself. The red trust can now be removed.
8805  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum and google authentication problem. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP on: October 13, 2015, 09:16:15 PM
I'm more then sure that you didn't lose your coins and you can get them back .
If you still can't send your bitcoins anywhere then I'd suggest you to restore your Electrum using your seed and that should cancel the Two Factor-Authentication part and you should be able to send your coins wherever you want to without any issues however if you don't have the seed somewhere then I'm afraid there isn't much you could do .
The seed won't be able to help at all.

To send transactions with the 2fa, you need to pay TrustedCoin, which is the service that does the two factor authentication. It should be something that is automatic when you send the transaction, and they will just ask you for the authenticator code.
8806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin qt not loading blockchain V0.11.0 64 bit on: October 13, 2015, 06:59:55 PM
Do you have the proper ports open in your firewall?

Check the debug console and click on the peers tab. Make sure that you have connections.
8807  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: can't sync database.. always different error messages on: October 13, 2015, 06:58:12 PM
that will take me like 3 days and I want to spend now.

I'm using bitcoin-cli dumpprivkey myPublicAddres so that I can use my coins in a lightweight wallet but I'm getting:

error: couldn't connect to server

My bitcoin.conf is

server=1

rpcuser=generated_by_armory

rpcpassword=slclsnlklkfqndmsnnswliqnsonlqsln
Do you have Bitcoin Core running? It needs to be running. If it isn't, set it to reindex and then do that command before it exits out.
8808  Bitcoin / BitcoinJ / Re: getting private keys of addresses from bitcoinj wallet words on: October 13, 2015, 06:56:53 PM
I figured it out. I realized that bitcoinj wallet tool has an option to also dump the priv keys.
8809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: can't sync database.. always different error messages on: October 13, 2015, 04:13:06 PM
and how would I find the file that contains that block?
Very carefully Grin

Honestly, it would just be easier to delete the blocks folder and let it do a full resync.
8810  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin core send a -1 confirmations transaction... on: October 13, 2015, 11:47:09 AM
This is a result of the transaction malleability attack. Just wait.
8811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vulnerability in UPnP library used by Bitcoin Core !! on: October 13, 2015, 11:39:46 AM
Quote from: TALOS VULNERABILITY REPORT
A specially crafted XML response can lead to a buffer overflow on the stack resulting in remote code execution. An attacker can set up a server on the local network to trigger this vulnerability.

So the local network has to be compromised first.
And if the local network is compromised, you can be in big trouble even without this vulnerability.

I hope that I understood it right.
That is correct. If the node if on a large network like a company network, this means that someone could attack the node from during the network.
8812  Other / Meta / Re: PSA: ACCOUNTS WILL BE LOCKED IF THE SECRET QUESTION IS USED TO RECOVER IT on: October 13, 2015, 01:13:16 AM
Thank you for letting me know this, ill remove my SQ now

I have a question, How can I remove the secirity question in my account? I already set another security question when I got back my account from previous lock. Thanks!
AFAIK you just make sure that both text boxes for the secret question are empty. IIRC the answer box will have a red warning next to it when you have one set, when it isn't set, that warning should disappear.
8813  Economy / Scam Accusations / [RESOLVED] scam accusation against user tautvilis on: October 12, 2015, 11:54:12 PM
What happened:: Tautvilis hired me to write him a program which I did and we used an escrow. That deal went smoothly. Then, he hired me again to create a simple on chain dice site, which I also did, but we did not use an escrow. For this deal, he has not paid me yet. We agreed to a price of 0.1BTC which we later upped 0.12BTC. I have repeatedly pm'ed him about payment, but he has not responded to my latest PMs. He claimed (on the first pm) that he was waiting for another user who apparently actually hired him to find someone to do the job. He did not say who that was. The site is http://ashdice.tk/.

Well it seems to be working.Don't think that I will not pay, I have contacted one person(I will not reveal his identity) and don't think that I am selling him the site cause I don't even have access to the server and I don't need it you can run my site I don't care about it.If he responds positively than I release the funds if not I say why.He ussually logs in every day or two and last time he logged in yesterday so I guess he will login soon.

Best regards,
tautvilis
You gonna pay?
You gonna pay?
OH man I got so exited that that person finally responded and it was you.I am opening this site every 5 mins just to see if he responded. It's pretty akward that he had already logged in twice but hadn't responded me.I am waiting for the monday I hope he will respond then.In the mean time maybe add some colors or something if you have time. And yes I am going to pay.

Best regards,
tautvilis
That was the last I had heard from him. Since then I have pm'ed him multiple times, but he never responded
When I take the the site down, I will also open a scam accusation against you. If you tell me who the person that asked this from you is, then the scam accusation will be against him, with you simply mentioned as the middleman. The first option will definitely get you red trust, the second probably not.

Or you could just pay me.
one day warning
Your time is up. I will be opening a scam accusation against you now.

Additional Notes: Although in the PMs I said I would take the site down, I am leaving it up just to show that I actually did the work. I know I also said that I would do this on the 11th, but I was busy yesterday so I am doing it now.

Also, I think this user may be yakuza699 since he sent me a pm where he signed it with yakuza699 instead of tautvilis.
Good. It's almost done. But a lot of testing might be needed because I might have done the blockchain wrong.
How much longer will it take?

Best regards,
yakuza699

8814  Other / Meta / Re: PSA: ACCOUNTS WILL BE LOCKED IF THE SECRET QUESTION IS USED TO RECOVER IT on: October 12, 2015, 11:19:22 PM
I think this was suppose to be a secret.
Why?
I believe it was secret because the answers to the secret questions were leaked when the forum was hacked, and this data was stored in a way that would be fairly easy to hash the data to get the plaintext answers. Since it would be so easy to hack accounts via secret questions, accounts would need to be manually checked by an admin prior to allowing them to have their password reset this way. It should have been a secret so people who were attempting to hack accounts would not know which attack vectors were not going to work, discouraging people to even attempt to hack accounts.
Huh. I could've sworn I saw a post by theymos himself saying that accounts were being locked if the security question was being used to unlock them. But now I can't find any such post.

I suppose I will leave this up since it may help people who lock themselves out. If it's a problem and theymos doesn't want it up, he can let me know, or just remove it himself.
8815  Other / Meta / Re: PSA: ACCOUNTS WILL BE LOCKED IF THE SECRET QUESTION IS USED TO RECOVER IT on: October 12, 2015, 10:38:18 PM
So that is the reason why I locked myself before when I reset my account with the security question. So what then is the use if that feature if it can't be used properly? As for me I always want a secret question attached in all my accoints even outside this forum so I thought it's a good thing but then it's not. Why can't they just reset it all again anyway?
I dont get why it is still possible to use it as a lot of ppl lock themself out... or just wipe all q and as out so ppl have to put in new ones...
I don't know. Ask theymos, he made it that way.
8816  Other / Meta / Re: PSA: ACCOUNTS WILL BE LOCKED IF THE SECRET QUESTION IS USED TO RECOVER IT on: October 12, 2015, 10:37:13 PM
I think this was suppose to be a secret.
Why?

I made this since I always see at least 3 threads in the front page meta where people are complaining about being locked out of their accounts and they all tried to use the secret question to recover it.
8817  Other / Meta / PSA: ACCOUNTS WILL BE LOCKED IF THE SECRET QUESTION IS USED TO RECOVER IT on: October 12, 2015, 09:52:12 PM
This is a Public Service Announcement:

If you lose your password, DO NOT USE THE SECRET QUESTION TO RECOVER THE ACCOUNT. It will result in your account being locked. Please use the email recovery option to recover the account.
The reason that the accounts are locked is because the May 2015 hack leaked Bitcointalk's database which did not securely secure the Secret Question and Answer. To prevent people from guessing the answers, theymos made it so that accounts that are recovered using the secret question are automatically locked when the option is attempted. This is to prevent hackers who may be able to guess the answers from the leaked database.

If you have had your account locked, to recover it, please send and email to the email displayed on your screen when you try to login. You can also create a new account and pm both theymos and badbear. In the email and PM, to prove your identity, You MUST sign a message with a bitcoin address that you have posted previously, at least 2 months prior. Please be patient. Theymos and BadBear are busy people. Your email or pm may become lost among all of the other stuff that they have to do. You should resent your email and pm once a week so that they will see it and get around to you. If you need help signing a message, check this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0

If you haven't lost your password yet or you have regained access to the account, don't set the secret question, it can be a hassle. Make sure that you have the email set to an email address that you can access. That will make everything so much easier and will not require the long recovery process.
8818  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Bitcoin Wallet for iOS???? on: October 12, 2015, 09:26:39 PM
An iOS device is much more secure by default than any of the popular desktop environments. Desktop systems aren't hardware encrypted, don't have app sandboxing, don't require code signatures, etc...

Read the iOS security white paper for more info: https://www.apple.com/business/docs/iOS_Security_Guide.pdf

There is currently a million dollar bounty for anyone who can remotely compromise an iOS device: https://www.zerodium.com/ios9.html

breadwallet is officially created by the bitcoin community! I am a member of the bitcoin community and I wrote it, so it's official. Smiley

breadwallet supports features like importing private keys.

it's the first SPV wallet for iOS, (meaning it connects directly to the bitcoin network, and doesn't trust or rely on servers operated by the wallet provider) and it's the first SPV wallet that runs on a malware hardened platform.

only you control your private keys, and they are held in the secure enclave using strong hardware backed AES encryption, so you have protection even if the phone is stolen.

blocktrail looks very nice, however it is what's called a "server-trusting" wallet. It relies on a server run by blocktrail. When their server goes down, your funds become unavailable until you import your keys into another wallet.
But you can't run a full node from an iOS device. I prefer full node security over the security of a mobile device since my desktop is much harder to steal, I don't do stupid things like click random links so I don't get viruses, and I can run a full node for my own protection and to help the network.
Yeah, I tend to put the majority of my bitcoins I want "mobile" on my phone... and then whatever is remaining on my desktop wallet.  With breadwallet though, I tend to feel even more secure about storing my bitcoins on there than anywhere else because of the security measures they use; they even allow the fingerprint authentication for you to easily access your wallet without the hassle of entering in some long password you created for the wallet, which I find very convenient.
8819  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin-core doesn't sync blockchain on: October 12, 2015, 09:23:56 PM
What do you mean by

rpcuser=yourPick
rpcpassword=youMustSetItButNotRememberIt
Just set anything you want for those. When using bitcoin-cli, they don't matter.
8820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: can't sync database.. always different error messages on: October 12, 2015, 09:22:45 PM
It looks like one of the blocks is corrupted, so you will actually need to resync. The easiest way is to just delete the blocks folder in the data directory. But that takes the most amount of time. You could try to find which blk.dat file contains the problem block, which in your case, looks like 303256. If you can figure out which blk.dat file it is in, then delete that file and all of the higher number files after it. You will still need to download some blocks, but not all of them. A reindex will also be required if you do that.
