9041  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Caelus; We will launch a bitcoin satellite to space! (Join Us!) on: September 22, 2015, 11:40:18 AM
You should do a reward that give access to it. Like a user. I will be more than happy to help if I could access part of it later.  Grin

That is actually a good idea, since it's going to be for the community
I think only a few operators who know what they are doing should be able to access it. For security. The reward can be the user get read only access and can send whatever data and commands they want to send up to an operator who makes sure that it is OK to send the data.
9042  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Two Full Nodes, Same Router on: September 22, 2015, 01:20:02 AM
It appears that in order to run a full node port 8333 must be forwarded to that computer.  However, I have two computer on the same router and I would like to run two full nodes. My router won't allow me to forward 8333 to the second computer. What must I do to get that second node up?

I'm running Bitcoin Core version v0.11.0 (64-bit).

Thanks.

Run it with a different port. You can either set your node to use a different port in the bitcoin.conf file and have the router forward that new port or you can keep the same 8333 port on that computer and set up your router to forward a different port number on the router to port 8333 on the computer.
9043  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: forking a coin : how to merkle root on: September 22, 2015, 01:18:25 AM
Thanks for the information guys.
I followed your guide Quantum_Mechanics and it helped alot. I finally was able to succefully clone a X11 coin yet I had to remove some code to get the qt to launch.

I changed the merkle root, genesis block, time and nNonce. Compiled, but was still getting an assertion error.

assertion failed: block.checkblock()

Out of desperation I removing this code from main.cpp
Code:
assert(block.CheckBlock());

Now the qt is running ok but i'm wondering if the part of code I removed will cause some kind of problem.

Can someone tell me what this code is for ? What does it do ?
Code:
assert(block.CheckBlock());

Thanks
That is a check to make sure that the blocks are good and valid. Normally, if checkblock fails, then this line will cause the program to shutdown and warn the user that something has gone wrong. You have basically removed a security and safety feature.

How did you determine the the goal for the kickstarter campaign?
9045  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Caelus; We will Send a Bitcoin node to space. (Join Us!) on: September 21, 2015, 07:20:53 PM
i've managed to get a Kickstarter campaign up and running for the structure !
What is the link?

I think we should include two computers, the raspberry pi and an actual board designed for satellites for the flight system. That flight computer can also control the power to the raspberry pi in case the raspi should crash or die at some point.

This site appears to be quite helpful for components: http://www.cubesatkit.com/

I contacted my aerospace engineer and he said that he doesn't have the time but might be able to help once he does have the time to do so.

For people researching this and wanting to help out, cubesat.org is a good place to start.

What stuff should be on the satellite? Besides the raspi for the node and the basics for communication and control, what else should be included? If there is a directional instrument (e.g. a camera) then reaction wheels will be required. Also, how long do we want this cubesat to last? Higher orbits for longer lifetimes cost more money. But lower orbits will cause its orbit to decay faster and thus shortening its lifetime.
9048  Economy / Services / Re: New-Service! Pay me in BTC, and I will buy you anything with my Credit Card / WU on: September 21, 2015, 03:09:34 AM
Hmm, no offense but I am just thinking that maybe you will used a hacked credit card to purchase those? And if that's the case, you may face some problems regarding your trades. Tell me, how would your service work? I've seen a lot of them before, one of them being purse.io. Also, you're a newbie, and as always, no one will trust a newbie on handling such trades unless the user already built some reputation around the forum.

I have already responded multiple times to the thought of using a "hacked" or stolen credit card. It will always appear as MY name as the card-holder, and I am offering full-disclosure of information to those I do business with in the spirit of integrity and transparency. I understand that I'm a newbie, but everyone has to start somewhere.

That alone isn't enough to prove your legitimacy. For all we know, you could give some fake credentials to us and buy things that we want using another name. Evidences could easily be faked nowadays, though I'm not saying that you're gonna do what I'm saying. Just pointing out the possibilities there is in case shit happens.
There was always that risk with purse.io and brawker but people still used them a lot anyways. I'm sure that those two sites were like a carder's paradise and they are even less transparent than OP claims he will be.

How do we know the credit cards are yours and not stolen? Weren't there sites like this before, I think bitsumo comes to mind.
You guys should really read what the OP has posted.
I am willing to go the extra mile to make my buyers feel at ease, all I need to know is what that is.
-snip-
It will be my name on every single credit card purchase, and it will be my credit card used for every purchase/payment. I am willing to do whatever is needed to prove that is the case. I also do not mind sending a statement that I take full responsibility for the payment method authorized for the purchase, or anything else that might make you feel more at ease.

OP, I will use your service if I can find something to buy.

Slashdot probably. I was looking at zero knowledge proofs and someone mentioned bitcoin as an option.

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3ln3sp/it_was_me/cv7qqsk

But, he mined block on February 3, 2009. Genesis block was mined on Januray 9, 2009. Slashdot has not published any article on bitcoin before February 3, 2009. And within 20 days of Genesis block mining, who can tell btcthwy about bitcoin as a zero knowledge proof system?

Things are really mysterious about this person /u/btcthwy.
Maybe he found out from the original source on the cypherpunks mailing list where Satoshi originally published Bitcoin?
He just said this...

Possibly in slashdot journals, which weren't indexed then (and now?).
Given what I limited myself to online, /. is most likely. Just searched thru email, nothing. Which I found odd. I may have deleted a lot of stuff though back in the dark days when space mattered.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any articles from slashdat mentioning Bitcoin that far back. However, it is not unlikely for them to pick up something like this. Bitcoin was first announced with the whitepaper on November 1st 2008 with the first release of Bitcoin in January 09. This guy mined the Bitcoin in February. That means there was an entire 3 months for a story to be written about it and for people to learn about it. Looking back at the logs of the mailing list shows that there was a significant amount of discussion about bitcoin by multiple people even before the initial client release. There could have been multiple people mining Bitcoin soon after its initial release, not just Satoshi and Hal.

Yeah, theymos said that he was doing that because the hash on the secret question answers weren't very strong so they could easily be bruteforced and people would have their accounts compromised.
So, my account will be locked and I need to make this thread every time I reset my password via secret question?
You need to PM theymos or badbear or email the address given to you in order to recover the account. Basically just don't use the secret question option. Instead use the email recovery.
9052  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how to check the signed message is correct or not? Need a advice on: September 21, 2015, 01:19:36 AM

Thanks for the details. This bitcoin core is online service or we need to download it?

I'm not so good in these technical things how it works. Thank you once again.
Actually it looks like bitcoin core can't do that. It should be possible though. The only client that I have seen that does it is Bitcoin Armory, and only with a certain format.

Also, Bitcoin core is a wallet that you need to download. It will also download the whole blockchain which takes 40+ Gb of space.

Just curious, do you have an idea how this "hacker" managed to change your account details?
I've used the same password with my Bitcointalk account on several website. Embarrassed
Have you found which sites were compromised? Maybe some site had a leak and that password was used to guess on a bunch of your other stuff and eventually led to bitcointalk.
That is a new security thing that theymos implemented since the site was hacked a few months ago. It automatically locks the account if the password is reset through the security question. Technically your account is locked, not banned.
If I reset my password via secret question, my account will be locked? I did not know that. Shocked

If the hacker had a keylogger or a RAT on his computer, he could have easily stolen the password and changed it later.

OP, have you checked your computer for viruses?

Yes. My account was stolen while I was sleeping, but I managed to reset the password via secret question as soon as I realized I couldn't reset my password via email.
Password successfully changed via secret question, but now my account is banned/locked. I'm not sure why though.

I named this thread "You are banned from using this forum!" because that is part of the ban message.

I like this idea since unlike the other services that do this kind of thing (purse.io, all4btc, and now defunt brawker) it will be almost instant. Those other services require bidders which may end up taking a long time for someone to bid. Of course, they all offer discounts, while you are charging a premium  Sad

Perhaps you could give full identification information to your customers and have some sort of contract for this service just in case law enforcement goes after the customers.
9057  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Free Bitcointalk Forum Account Potential Activity Counter Bot on: September 20, 2015, 10:10:46 PM
Since some people are having issues running the bot, I have set up full version at http://www.satoshiquiz.com/bitcointalk/getactivity.php
How it works:
Step 1:You enter the userid and submit.
Step 2:You get a "Code" and a time estimate 't' in min after which the account report will be ready.
Step 3:After 't' min, enter the code and you can see account report.

Limits: 5 lookups per ip per day.

Thanks
Has this stopped working? The Key field appears to be blank by default!
You need click generate key and pay 0.001 btc in order to use it. The key is lifetime though.

Alright guys, i have a copy don't worry, i just created another spreadsheet with updated information.
Removed some spammy rows and columns, this time it is View-Only.
Until the OP comes online here is the temporarily link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1adIcuPBWghraxoXlqRN0S1jbKM0aT7xeZrzBZopDLgw
Don't worry guys everything is under control.
Thank you for doing that.

You should check the data on your spreadsheet. It says I am a Full Member when I am actually a Sr. Member.

Edit: I just checked. Same thing with panjul07, rozee, paraka, akbarkoe, and grandfx

I've actually started a crowd funded for the structure, but it will take a while before its up. I used the word ISIS as in the space station...so my application is currently "under U.S. Government analysis" before it will go online .
Uhh, The international space station is ISS, not ISIS
