I just realized I need to add a section about number of words rewarded per month. I will post it once I do. Also, I know I am missing details about how shares are divided up. If anyone has an article which clarifies that and is more accurate, please pm me and I will link to it ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I think I have a solution to determine a pay structure. We should go with a meritocracy based around a badge system. These badges would act as rank and determine how much each writer gets paid. This way you would have granularity, merit, reward for quality, and reward for work. This badge system could also apply to programmers, musicians, or anything else. In order to get a basic level badge an individual would have to pass an exam. This exam should cost some coins and this would prevent spammers. The exam process would make it easier for Fuzzybear or whomever to review works. Perhaps eventually let random community members or even pay individuals to review them. The initial badge would declare that the individual meets the minimum qualification to be recognized as a writer, a programmer, or whatever. Then over time reward with different higher level badges. These different badges will act as rank and as long as the writer continues to write their pay grade will be a bit higher based on the quality of their previous work as recognized by their badge. There should be different sorts of badges passed around throughout the community which recognize different kinds of competency. Integrity for example is very valuable no matter if you're a writer, programmer or anything else and a lot of us would rather see the rewards go to community members with proven integrity. This would act similar to ebay or amazon where people maintain a good reputation and can get business but scammers and cheats don't. The better the reputation and integrity of the artist, developer, etc, the greater the portion of shares they should get. This would allow for the community to reward qualities not just of the work itself, but of the author or developer themselves and factor that into how much they get paid. For instance if Fin Shaggy is known to be a man of honor and integrity then he eventually will receive a badge and that badge will allow him to be recognized for that in pay rank. If Fin Shaggy is also known to be very competent at writing then he could get a badge for that and be recognized for that and get the $50 per share rate but the next person who does not have that badge or who isn't known as being a very competent writer, they'll have to focus more on earning the badge than on just pumping out low quality content. This will force them to actually care about the quality of their work for the badge. The badge should be difficult to revoke if it's an integrity badge. If it's a competency badge then it should be permanent for writers because if a writer proves they can produce a good piece of art work or software that should be enough. The next step would be to create ranks which are even higher than badges which I'll call medals. Give the medals out to the truly exceptional people. This way established writers with good reputations for producing quality work will have badges, medals, and other qualifications and these should determine the worth of their shares. This way it's not marketing, it's not word count, it's not equally distributed like communism, it's merit and competency and these badges could stay with the developer no matter what coin they use in the future. If Ethicoin, Devcoin, Bitcoin, Litecoin or Futurecoin becomes popular these badges will still have established the merit and rank and would persist throughout all of that. This way I'll immediately know which among you are talented at whatever, which among you are knowledgeable or skilled, and which among you are honorable. I love your badge/rank idea! It's actually how a lot of writers (well, most jobs) already get paid. As you write more (or work more) you get promotions that increase your available job breadth and your pay for doing the work. Kind of like going from a cook at McDonald's to a manager to a district manager. As you prove your ability you keep getting promoted.

I know I'm not well known in the community yet! I was hoping to at least get the name out and start a great reputation with the opening promotion... I'm hoping some reputables in the community use the service and can vouch for it. Thank you!
No problem, and I believe everyone has to start somewhere, ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) . The issue is getting started with BTC->Paypal because people are going to be very hesitant since BTC is irreversible and Paypal isn't.

I just enabled vardiff on the DGC pool. Going to see how it goes overnight, and possibly revert in the morning. Right now efficiency is hovering around 90-95% but the number of orphans hasn't increased as far as I can tell.
Calculation for last N will still be based on diff 32, for now.
Does this mean if someone's is set at 64 they are only getting half the shares? Yes but the payments code takes difficulty into account. Got it. Based on how you said it, it seemed more like you were counting all as d32 shares, :p. So what you meant is the number of shares COUNTED for n is based on d32? Such as (assuming we did N=5): Before: 32, 32, 32, 32, 32, 32 (the first one would be knocked off now) Now: 32, 64, 64, 64, 32, 32 (the first one would be knocked off) Later: 32, 64, 64, 32 (the first would be knocked off since each 64 = the same as 2x 32's) Is that right? Correct, N is calculated for scrypt coins as block_difficulty * 65536 / share_difficulty. With vardiff, optimally share_difficulty would be the average difficulty we've been handing out, but I haven't implemented that in the code yet, so for now it's just set to 32. Which means more shares than normal will be included in the calculation. (Rather than less) Makes sense. Thanks for clarifying this, ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) .

Hey guys, Now open and open forever is CoinCroc.com! We are moving our hosting and operations to Sweden by the end of the month using the same hosting as The Pirate Bay and WikiLeaks. We exchange Bitcoins for PayPal just like CoinGator used too, before they threw in the towel. We have a launch promotion going on, it's not quite double payouts for 0.01 Bitcoins but it's pretty darn good. Until June 17th we are offering 1.5x payouts for the first 10 Bitcoins exchanged that day. Today there are 7.4 Bitcoins left that will pay out 1.5x. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to email me at admin@coincroc.com where I will be happy to help you. Spread the good word, Coin Croc is here to stay. Your single post is a bit of a turn-off but it's great to see another place is offering Paypal, ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) .

I think i'll think pass on this xbox.
I said this for most of this generation of consoles. I enjoy PC gaming much much more. I like pc gaming too but local multiplayer is important to me and that's pretty much nonexistent in pc gaming. He's right, game developers have been quietly eliminating LAN gaming for years now, Blizzard got rid of it in Starcraft 2 if I recall correctly and only put it in after a lot of demands from their customers, how these people get away with such shit and still make millions is beyond me. A lot of games still allow you to play via lan by inputting your LAN ip in the connection area (instead of a server ip), but you're definitely right about it being phased out. I just don't think it's as popular as it used to be. Everyone wants to play online.

mining shares, because ordering ASIC does not work
I'm wondering about the feasibility of ASIC shares now though as well. Most of them, at today's rate/ROI would take 3 years or more to get back the investment. Of course if their hash rates go up that speeds up ROI but difficulty still plays a huge role.

Thank you everyone for the clarifications ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) No problem! Hope you enjoy A&M, ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) . It's a good school.

I only used power risers for 2 cards tho, since the board already got 3 slots that will fit the GPU. So can this still be the case ?
How can i make my own powered risers? I saw some on ebay but they cost 5 times as much as the normal ones.
Good question, and not something I know enough about. However... Your PSU was 1050w. You were pulling nearly 1000w from the wall. My understanding is that PSU's "deteriorate" over time (based on power calculators), something about capacitor age or something. Someone who knows more may be able to chime in but I think this could be related? Ex. the power being pushed by the PSU decreased over time until it could no longer handle the load and then was overloaded.

For the record, you guys have the best captcha system I've seen. All the words are related to BTC and are actual words, so there's no mis-entering them 5-10x because they look like "ioLopllIl"
YAY! Thanks for noticing! We were really reluctant to put a captcha up at all... but in the end we need to make sure to lock the bots out simply to keep it fair for all the human players ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) In the end we decided to go with a simple-php-captcha and adapted the dictionary. We actually collected the words from the community here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=214477.0Ah, that's pretty cool! I've been kind of against captcha myself as well but sadly it appears to be something that can't be avoided. People always want to abuse things instead of use them as intended. Yours isn't intrusive at all though. It's so much more natural to type "asics" than it is some random characters, XD.

Uhh...what? In my mind I believe you're referring to something along the lines of "split screening" for multiplayer / coop ...otherwise, LAN party anyone? People still have LAN parties? :p. And I think he means like... on a console (split screen, as you said) you can have 4 people playing one copy of a game. On PC you need 4 copies.

i use all of these sites even as a non-newbie who has had relatively large balances at times.
it may take a few seconds, but sometimes i have seconds to spare between more important jobs anyway.
i like to 'collect dust' using a huge list of pre-generated 'offline' addresses that i'll import and consolidate in 5 years' time when they're worth something.
sounds like a plan. how it goes after 1 year? Should be going pretty well! And now there's a lot more faucets too: BTC Faucet Rotator. Makes it easier with a rotator too since you can go from one to the next and it keeps up with timers so you earn more in less time/work, ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) . you should make it i submit one time and your site resubmit to dozen sites and solves captchas automatically. Then im in lol, even if I knew how to do that, my goal isn't to hurt any of the faucets. This would be a recipe for disaster.

People are still buying bitcoins because they are so cheap! The price is going to skyrocket again any time now, BUY BUY BUY!
A bigger reason is... if people didn't buy them they would have 0 value. The value is created by the buyers. If everyone stopped trading fiat right now, BTC would be worthless because there would be no way to use it on anything worthwhile (ex. if I have a store and I sell items for BTC, I have to buy the items with cash. If I can't trade the BTC for cash anymore, I go out of business).

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone! ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I've been working on my little program for a while now so appreciate all the nice comments! ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) ~ Currently, the source is closed as I've not seen (m)any legit competitors and don't really want to 'compete' with others who have just modified my hard work; but saying that I may sell this as a bundled offer in the future. You may be better off asking for donations and making the program free though. While I get that it has some neat features (and it's got a cool design), I don't really see any reason that really puts it above the normal exchanges for the majority of people who would be interested.

Ouch, this sucks! I ran into a similar issue when I installed a 7950 on my 480w PSU (that said min. 500). Exploded the PSU though, not any mobo/videocard damage.
I think you needed more power.

and, just to point out, it's all free, there's nothing to lose if you play... even if it WAS a scam...
This right here. It's not like you're signing over your bank account and stuff. You enter your BTC addy (ctrl+v), type in the captcha and you're done. For the record, you guys have the best captcha system I've seen. All the words are related to BTC and are actual words, so there's no mis-entering them 5-10x because they look like "ioLopllIl"

If you did this for a total of an hour a day, whats a realistic amount of bitcoin you would expect to get ?
This is hard to say for sure... there's a lot of variance. The way I see it, though, anything earned is cutting into a limited amount of coins. As time goes on, the value will keep going up (as demand will increase faster than supply).

$10? It's having problems with $2.50!
Yeah, I don't get why it keeps going up and down so much like it is. When I first got into researching cryptos it was at over $4. Then dropped to like 3, then below, then back up to 3.50 or so... LTC is more volatile than BTC I think.
