If I go and get a cheap laptop tomorrow and do it on a brand new machine are there any risks involved there? Assuming its a brand new out of the box one?

There are always risks. Of course, on a new laptop they should be smaller. (Keep in mind that anything that goes online faces the risk to get hacked.)
However, if you will have 2 laptops, it would be safer to use one of them as cold storage until the transaction is made.

But I would not buy a new laptop only for this, especially if you already exposed that private key (since you tried to sweep it once).

This article shows tweets where the team claims that they have fixed the affiliate links and redirecting issues.
https://www.publish0x.com/everything-cryptocurrency2/brave-browser-is-tracking-you-and-35089877-is-the-proof-upda-xjjodjn?a=joQeZJepZV&tid=htacc

But the author also stated that Brave has some sort of whitelist that allows certain websites to place tracking cookies on a users device. They were not transparent about that either.

They've lost the credibility and I tend to believe those "issues" were not added there by mistake. It was just one of the most visible of their actions (after the KYC though). So I'm not surprised they may have other surprises here and there...
8843  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin, will this play a role in logistics industry? on: June 08, 2020, 06:08:25 PM
bitcoin, will this play a role in logistics industry? which also covers the air freight export license, export customers clearance, AU customs clearance, and AU customs duties

It's too expensive (and useless) to use Bitcoin in logistics. But Bitcoin will remain "the thing" that opened world's eyes about the power of blockchain.
Depending of various companies' needs, blockchains are starting to get used in logistics, but it's not the same blockchains you'll see here as support for various coins.
8844  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Chainalysis now supports Dash and Zcash on: June 08, 2020, 05:55:27 PM
That would be because those "so called privacy coins" are a joke. Smiley

And their supporters were warned. Again, and again, and so on ...
But no, we don't understand... that all they care about is money, no matter what.

Will the new announcement from Chainanalysis make people move their funds from Dash and ZCash to Monero? Any guesses?

Any thing I should do to make sure my comp is free from malware?

Either burn a live Linux onto a stick and boot from it (Tails OS also has Electrum on it, some trust it, some not, just beware that usually the info from there is not persistent = it's lost at booting),
either clean your system by burning or putting onto a stick an antivirus iso (Kaspersky or any other antivirus producer you prefer), booting from it and put it to work.
8847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Chainalysis now supports Dash and Zcash on: June 08, 2020, 04:36:27 PM
It looks like it's not a joke.

You may be wondering how Chainalysis products could support privacy coins. Isn’t the whole purpose of privacy coins to make transactions impossible to trace?

That’s an oversimplification, in that it misunderstands both the privacy features coins like Dash and Zcash offer and how users actually utilize those features in everyday transactions.

It's interesting the way they are calling them

two of the most popular so-called “privacy coins”

I won't add anything since some could call me "mean", "misinformed" and so on. These coins' advertising worked well until now, but I see they may have quite a problem now...  Roll Eyes

I cannot tell how blockchain.com works, but I can give you alternative.

First of all check the expected bitcoin address (of the paper wallet) in a block explorer like https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/HERE_COMES_THE_ADDRESS and see if you have the expected funds.
Second, you can download Electrum from and only from https://electrum.org/#download (it would be good to also check the signature, there are tutorials on this forum), and there, on the "create new wallet" page you choose "import bitcoin addresses or private keys", press next then there type p2pkh: and paste your paper wallet's private key.

Electrum will create a wallet for you from that paper wallet and you can send the funds wherever you want.

Of course it's expected you do this on a computer without malware. I'd start with checking that first.

You are assuming that Brave user base is only made of people who want a few tokens.

And that's probably the reason the majority is using brave.
There is no other sane reason to use brave instead of e.g. firefox.

Being advertised even on this forum as a privacy oriented browser... allow me to disagree on this. (at least until this last straw / change)
I tend to believe that it's not only those pennies that were seen as attractive, especially after they started asking for KYC.
(However, now I don't see another alternative than Firefox.)

I was using it because of its in built adblocker

You chose a browser based on an ability which every other browser has an addon for ?
Does brave also block every javascript until you allow it? There are addons for that as well.

I've lost contact with Firefox long before ad blockers were made for Firefox. And it was not the only thing I liked more on Chromium. Even now the rendering (from load up to the look and feel, even for the same fonts) is better on Chromium. And I also tend to believe that an in-built ad blocker should be better, smoother, faster. So yeah, surprisingly.

About javascript, yes it does: https://www.reddit.com/r/brave_browser/comments/9j1rgw/block_scripts/e6onpx6/
And of course, you can make per-website settings too in both directions.
8851  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Brave browser hijacking links and affiliate codes! on: June 08, 2020, 01:02:25 PM
It won't destroy Brave, people are using it because they want to earn pennies, so they'll be very unlikely to care about controversies like this as long as they keep getting paid.

You are assuming that Brave user base is only made of people who want a few tokens. You are wrong.
I was using it because of its in built adblocker and because I was already used with Chromium.
One of the first things I've switched off was the token advertising part.
Maybe I was rather new there, but I am sure that others had similar reasons.

Of course, I am going for Firefox now.
8852  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC next Movement......... on: June 08, 2020, 10:01:09 AM
the trend is Bearish

Actually right now the trend is neither bullish nor bearish. So you have 50% chance to be correct with the general short-term trend in your chart (basically because anything can happen).

done!

Would you please be so kind and [lock topic]? See bottom-left of the page.

Since your problem is solved future answers are useless and many just don't read that you are done and they'll keep posting.
8855  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: I want to Exchange LEND Token for ETH on: June 07, 2020, 06:30:31 AM
I would like to exchange a small amount of LEND Token (87) to ETH.

If this is the token you are talking about ( https://www.worldcoinindex.com/coin/aave ) you will see a list of exchanges trading it.
But beware, at most exchanges you may be under the minimum withdraw amount (I think that at Binance you may be able to withdraw though, but that'll be close to the minimum limit too).
8856  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yet another analyst on: June 07, 2020, 05:39:25 AM
I've seen again people telling the bull run is starting.
https://mobile.twitter.com/100trillionUSD/status/1267214325661433856
I'm not convinced it's meaningful or just babble.

If so, the lack of downward movement would maybe make sense.
8857  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns [Last update: 01-Jun-2020] on: June 07, 2020, 05:05:06 AM
ChipMixer is full again, although there's no new lucky participant.

Hai Darkstar_, it looks like the campaign status has changed from open slot to full. Have you found a new participant after the last 2 people or have decided to cancel the acceptance of the third participant afterwards ?
I dont see a new name in Spreadsheet.

For now, there will not be a third participant accepted.
8858  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: New stupid/greedy move from Brave Browser on: June 06, 2020, 08:40:34 PM
I've never liked Brave Browser, but this should be the final nail in the coffin for most users (crypto users at least). Fuck Brave Browser!

I did like its speed and in-built ad blocker.
I did hate the fact its sync doesn't work and I was almost getting back to Chrome (actually I did get back on my phone).

Yep, the wonderful privacy browser even myself started using it, have done it again.
Well? You are going to stop using Brave after this, right?

I am coming from Chrome, so Brave is not worse  Grin at least not yet.
But most probably I'll give another chance to Firefox, although I stopped liking it after it has disappointed me many many years ago.

Edit: Yup, I'm going for Firefox again. Bye-bye Brave.

When you want to go to binance.us, Brave redirects you to a REF LINK: binance[.]us/en?ref=35089877
And it's not the only site where it uses ref links:

It's not the first campaign I see my name in, like this.
Glad to see they're nuked now, at least the campaign manager did react pretty fast after this was uncovered.
