Well at least I'm trying to contribute by showing tyat not every .tk website is a scam/malware-overrun website.

I get ya. I actually started up a few tk's on my own after doing research on them again. And I'm not a scammer/malware abuser, :p.
As moth of my sites are experiments which don't earn enough to be able to sustain even a .com domain, I use a free .tk domain which allows me to experiment freely without worrying that it'll be suspended.

True, that's another good reason to use them, Smiley. Also, the benefit of .com over .tk is solely about SEO. Other than that there are no differences. And that only matters because .tk is a country-based domain and .com is universal.
Aoso .tk gives moreprivacy. In a .com domain, you have to pay for whois protection while .tk gives it for free. That might be a negative of the domain too.

Actually, a lot of registrars give free privacy. The problem is if you're running an actual business (or really anything where you want authority) you need to leave it public as transparency (stores, authority blogs, etc.).
As I don't really take people's money; I actually give them more, such transparency isn't needed for me. Bitcoin

Just looked at your site, actually. If you change to a more static payment method (instead of random) I'd be willing to feature it on the BTC Faucet Rotator.
8962  Other / Off-topic / Re: funny meme i just made on: June 11, 2013, 09:32:55 AM

lol, I think what's funnier is the thought that putting criminals with other criminals will help make them change their ways.

It's like taking the troublemakers in a classroom and making them sit with the other troublemakers. All they do is feed off each other and become worse.
The worst thing is that the criminals learn much more bad tricks in prison and come out much stronger and with much much more hatred for the society which put him there.

Exactly. I read somewhere a while back about psychologists taking people with behavioral problems and putting them with people who act completely proper. It was a very high rate of those that were causing problems that turned good, due to being surrounded by good.

What I don't get is why the government doesn't exercise this more often.

(Note: this does not mean to release them into the streets before rehabilitation. With the stuff that happens out there... things stay the same or get worse)

Can anyone please tell me if this is a bug? Just opened my DGC client and saw that it is trying to sync. It shows that there are 268k blocks remaining on the sync, but it shows all my latest transactions (as of a couple days ago) as confirmed. Also, it says the last block received was generated 18 seconds ago.

Just restart your client. Your funds are safe. Sometimes there's some other coin's chain conflicting I think although I didn't see that  error for few days already. I guess the network is getting stronger.

Thanks for the confirmation. Did it and now everything looks fine!

Just wasn't sure if that was something I should worry about or not; figured something may be corrupted and with cryptos, I've learned (reading posts) that the smallest mistake can make you lose everything, :p.

I made a prank bet here to prove once and for all that "trustworthiness" doesn't count (and got exactly what I deserved: see my title). The community is a bit more suspicious of anonymous and even public services these days, but they still fawn over flashy money tossers too easily (the "boy's club" of bitcoin) and think that anyone who mimics their libertarian philosophies must be a saint.  Roll Eyes

With the rise of bitcoin prices, the biggest scams have yet to even happen I'm sure.

Lol, I never even saw that title. But who can NOT trust a guy with cool dogs as his avatar?

Why, cats of course.  Cheesy

Sir, it would appear you never met...

Ranlo,

Do you have any suggestions on Trusted, Anonymous Wallets?

It does suck that I had to be the first to report this but if you look at http://blockchain.info/address/1NRMGqPYXwPoAGHiPAMzBgkqCcmgms3hjH it looks like this guy has been at it for a while.

I just wish I could find out who the scammer was...anyway, at least I still have 2.5 BTC left.  I was "smart enough"...if that can be said when scammed...not to send but a small amount of my total Sad

The closest thing to a trusted anonymous wallet is the trusted wallet you run on your own computing device. It is actually hard to get more anonymous than running a local wallet.

Most tor hosted mixers and wallet services you simply have to assume are scams until demonstrated otherwise.

In practice, an anonymous wallet or mixer that has demonstrated they are not a scam, are merely long cons (mybitcoin.com) or sleeping trojans.

You lost me with that link. It forwards to bitcoin.org...?

I can't explain why that is, but here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/MyBitcoin (it may have been before your time).

TL;DR? They stole 51% of everyone's money, tracing them showed an anonymous registration in a country known for anonymous shell companies .

This is definitely before my time (only been around a few weeks). And wow... based on the article they seemed to be pretty trustworthy.

8972  Economy / Auctions / Re: [AUCTION] 499 direct ASICMINER shares on: June 11, 2013, 08:57:40 AM

If ASICMINER required voting the PT would vote in your behalf and it is up to the PT issuer to ask you about your opinion on the matter, or not.

However, In ASICMINER the holder of 5000+ shares has special privileges like extra frequent updates on the company progress and some hardware were promised as gifts. Either these privileges would be shares with the PT shares owners or not, That is up to the issuers.

I would ask of you to ask such question in the appropriate thread of ASICMINER.

Sorry, you're right. My last post here, Smiley. Thanks for the clarification!
8973  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how long will i got the bitcoins on: June 11, 2013, 08:56:30 AM
my bitcoin client has ran serveral night, but still get no bitcoin yet. it seems very hard to get.

Basically, what the others said. Mining takes a long time, even with decent hardware.

You can also join some of the free giveaways/lotteries around here or even check out free BTC faucets.

None of it will make you rich though... basically "it takes money to make money."
8974  Economy / Auctions / Re: [AUCTION] 499 direct ASICMINER shares on: June 11, 2013, 08:43:48 AM
Nice try, AM is down to 2.151 on btct...

Those are pass-through shares, I don't see anyone selling direct shares cheaper. Anyway, I'll keep the dividends if nobody's interested  Smiley
You can buy PT shares and then convert them to direct.

What is the difference between the two? And what does it cost to convert?

Depends on the PT operator. For example G.ASICMINER-PT does it for free but process only large sum of shares (250++) while TAT.ASICMINER does not give you the option to withdraw to real shares at the moment or writing this.

Is the only difference between PT/real voting privileges?

A big goal I think would be to get dgc partnered with a major company then and watch it fly. When digiclicks.co matures it will really get dgc moving as well.

What is that site supposed to be? Advertising system? It's down atm.

22K for 22-28ghs?

How much are avalons selling for? (if ever shipped)
How muych $$ would BFL take off you for the hope of get a 30ghs single?
How much are block ejaculator blades selling for?

*IF* any asic supplier were actually shipping anything consistently you have to say the prices are too high.
That said I wouldn't order at that price to get in the first 150 chips, but could be interested in batch 2 if prices come down.

Also I'd really like to buy boards without the RPi and run from the computer hardware I already have, and that computer can support far more than 4 boards.

$22,200 for 22-28 GH/s
$22,200 / 200 = 111 * .3 = 33.3 GH/s via USB miners

Not to mention you have it in-hand within a couple days. Not relying on a company that may or may not be able to achieve their goal.
8979  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New place to buy physical goods with Bitcoins... on: June 11, 2013, 08:20:31 AM
Correct, it's an online (offline) store now - once we nail all of that down, then we can explore the whole open market space, but I'd rather that we do really well at one objective, then mediocre at two.  Smiley

As far as insurance/return policies, we obviously have them in place for people who come into the physical stores, but we need to figure out what they'll be for online.  Since we sell on eBay as well as Amazon, we're more than familiar with what works and what doesn't work in terms on online dispute resolution.  That is one of the big advantages we have over someplace like eBay - when they get in the middle of a transaction, they never have actually handled the items in question.  Were the pictures accurate that the seller took?  Was the box trashed by the shipper?  We're the ones who take all the pictures, we write the descriptions, we note the condition details, etc.  I would say we err on the side of showing even minor things, because we would rather have the buyer be pleasantly surprised then slightly disappointed.

On a couple of the more technical things we've sold in the past to people online, they've called and walked someone at our store through the process of testing an item to ensure it's in working order - if you're familiar with datacenter stuff, think of it like remote hands.  While one of our employees might not be able to flip on an oscilloscope and tell you if it's working or calibrated, if you're familiar with the item you can generally determine if it's working or not.  We test everything to the best of our ability, but the shear breadth of things we carry means that we can't exhaustively test everything.

So, to your specific question - I suspect our return policy will be something mainstream like 30 days.  Refunds would be in either Bitcoins or if the person wanted, they could put it on a giftcard - but not USD (otherwise I suspect we could run into some legal issues).

As far as insurance (I'm assuming you mean shipping insurance), we don't normally do it since we haven't found a big need for it - but if it was something that people felt was important, then we could certainly do it - it just costs more in terms of shipping.

Thanks for the in-depth responses, Smiley. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this pans out!
8980  Economy / Economics / Re: Why people are still buying BTC? on: June 11, 2013, 08:18:37 AM
Because the concept of an email-able store of value that outperforms gold and has no counter-party risk and is mostly anonymous and the entire history of transactions is public and transparent and storage takes up zero physical space are all... revolutionary?  Never been done before?

...

NAH, OP is totally right --  completely useless!!!   Grin  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

It's one of the few ways to combat Paypal and Google Wallets too! Both of those are buyer-based and if someone gets mad at you and does a chargeback you not only lose your item and your money, but they will also charge you extra for the chargeback (it's like $30 for Google and 25 for Paypal).

Right -- I recently sold some mining hardware to someone overseas, and not being familiar with Paypal's exorbitant fees, kicked myself for not accepting payment in BTC ... especially after the buyer filed a dispute with Paypal trying to say the product didn't meet up to description!  Well luckily I won the dispute ...
OH and ALSO... it'd be effin HEE-LARIOUS to see someone try to rob someone else of his/her BTC at gunpoint!!  Pure frivolousness.

You're lucky you won. Someone I know sent a sealed, brand new laptop to someone. They got the package, opened it and then put bricks in it to take pictures as proof that the laptop was never actually sent.

Ridiculous.  Yeah I got extremely lucky... I'll never use PayPal again, effin crooks...
Buyer filed dispute, PayPal says (i'm paraphrasing here): "Here's some options you might use to solve the problem",
One option was "Request buyer send back merch and refund half the money" -- I said "NO WAY, DON'T EVER DO THIS"
Guess what PayPal did?  They went and offered the buyer that exact option that I explicitly asked them NOT to offer!  I seriously would rather have been sued...  At least in court, I would have had a chance to prove my case (which I supplied evidence -- screen shot and a link [which I believe is still archived here somewhere on this forum] to the original product description, which matched the buyer's complaint precisely)
PayPal overtly ignored this evidence AND my "choice"... complete disregard for my end of the deal.  They gave the buyer up to a certain date to provide shipping / tracking info that the merch was being sent back to me... The buyer never responded.
Whew!  Well maybe he finally figured out how to use the cards after all!   Cheesy

lol, my worst situation... one day I found $3k in my account that wasn't mine. Because I'm a highly moral person, I contacted Paypal to let them know that I had money that wasn't mine. They froze my account instantly to look into the situation, then a week later said they couldn't figure out where it came from or who it belonged to. Because of this, they said they had to just remove the 3k and keep it, since it no longer has an owner.

So they take the 3k, my account is still frozen. I contact them again wanting to withdraw my money (that I had before this situation started) and they said there's a 180-day hold on the account. They refused to give me anything for that 6 months, while they held it to earn interest.

After I got my money back, I've been 100% against holding any funds there again. In the off case I get a PP payment, I instantly withdraw it.
