901  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cheap electricity for mining Bitcoin on: May 12, 2016, 07:16:33 AM
does any of you with cheap electricity offer hosting here? my electricity is killing me, but obviously i need to trust you first, so a form of escrow is mandatory

if i had the chance to have 0.03 electricity i would build a farm in no time damn

I always hoped eventually some people would go together and build a farm with a co-op idea.  But it seems hard to do as no one really does it.  Seems that hosting centers are what a lot turn into which lead to higher cost.

Maybe one day?   It would be nice to see one of these shared co-op farms someday.
902  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I benefit from btc? on: May 12, 2016, 07:10:28 AM
soon bitcoin will be acceptable to all merchant. a good thing Smiley

Yes it will happen soon, we just need to continue what we are doing with bitcoins today and other merchants will be persuaded to use bitcoin for their terms of payment. Don't worry it will happen.

I think it will happen via the credit/debit cards we have seen a few of.  That you can use to purchase goods swipe card and it subtracts it from your BTC balance.  I think the time where all merchants truly accept BTC is not that close.  We have some time till mass adoption.

We are moving in right direction is the good thing.   But it is a slow process and still is going to take time and educating people.
903  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can i enter a signature campaign on: May 12, 2016, 07:06:48 AM
Hello, I'm a new member of this forum. I'm new to bitcoin too and just start to earn it through foucet. I heard that there is a signature contest in which member can earn bitcoin via posting and i want to know how to participate. Basically you advertise their site through your signature, right?
right. first you increases yor activity then you able to join sig compain.

You can join 777coin or bitvest with your rank, as they are the only signature campaign which accepts newbies, once I was a newbie I was with them, but because of late payments as soon as I reached the Jr.Member joined yobit for daily payments. Unfortunately for you (and good for the signature) yobit now only accepts member rank and above which will lead to less spamming from this signature campaign.

Until full member you make pretty small amounts for signature campaigns.  I would not suggest starting right away as some do.  I waited till Hero member, should have started sooner on sig campaign.  But was focused on mining still am really.

But use newbie time to learn how to make good posts, that contribute.   Ask questions on things you want learn.  It really is a time to learn some jump to sig campaign right away and post quality is not so good.   And leads to spamming which again is not good.. and that can lead to a ban if bad enough.
904  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: $10,000-15,000 rig on: May 12, 2016, 06:49:23 AM
i can tell you what i like for the basic equipment

now i have a rig that is half done, composed as follow

asrock h81 pro btc
G1840
8GB ram sniper 1866(better bang for the buck)
ssd 120(again better bang for the buck, cost the same as 64gb on amazon)
corsdai 1500i, i like high and reliable psu, don't mine spending on this
6 x riser, ribbon
6 x nvidia 970(i would wait for nvidia 1070 at this point, i'm selling mine for them) with those you can buy 1k psu and be good

PSU's are not a bad thing to spend on either.  If you ROI on one it's nice to have around for future projects.  I used some of my RM1000's from long ago on a rig that I'm messing with ether on.

And if you end up not using the PSU again keep the box, and everything and you can sell for a decent amount of your money back on quality PSU's.  At this point I pretty much keep all equipment boxes.
905  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: May 12, 2016, 06:41:55 AM
Anyone have success underclocking these?

With summer heat coming, and the halving just wondering if there's anyway to squeeze more efficiency while also lowering heat/noise

they have a very strange  way of underclock.

but if you can lower your voltage to 11.5  it all works to give some small savings.  maybe .27 vs  .31 a gh

if you can not lower your voltage the underclocks don't really work much

The smartspeed kinda made it where it does not underclock like the 4.1 did.  Some people have undervolted/overvolted that is where you get more efficiency or more speed.  But if you do it to much it can kill a blade.  You will see some though the thread that it went wrong.

But you cannot really get a lot more efficiency out of them via frequency.
906  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: $10,000-15,000 rig on: May 12, 2016, 01:06:08 AM
To echo above 9 cents is not easy.    6 cents if you have a lot of psus on hand could work.

At nine cents go to the alt coin section  and read this thread

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1429151.0

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1373930.0

I suggest you build a 4 to 6 card rig or 2 three card rigs.

Basically nine cents does not work for btc

At 9 cent's I'm still not sure I would throw 10-15k into altcoins still.   I think finding a new location with cheaper electericity should be OP's priority. I hope he did not sign any contracts with current location. Don't forget cooling costs, internet, possible wiring (electricity and networking).

Just a lot of initial costs to go with a place that does not have cheap electricity.
907  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: AntMiner S9 rampant speculation thread, have to be quick though on: May 12, 2016, 01:02:55 AM
I thought it was going to turn out to be trolls on this.  But if they are getting official accounts... that changes my mind.  I have no idea what to expect though.  I think design wise will be like S7 with 3 hashing boards.  But specs.. who knows.
908  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next gen Antminer opinions/guesses on: May 12, 2016, 12:57:42 AM
i think to avoid wasting space, they can even go with a single more powerful unit, that deliver more than the double of a s7, like s7 was 4 time the s5, so 20tera? and consumption of 2400w, so double the efficiency at least

price high enough that it would not be a good investment at the beginning, as usual

they must have 10,000 of their own psu's in use thus I say a 1400 watt miner makes the most sense for them.

so  that said  if the current machine is doing 4700 at 1400 watts at the wall  it is doing  .297 watts a gh.

I would think the s-9   will do 9000gh at 1400 watts doing  or  .15555 watts a gh

if it is a lot different  it will be less power say 7200gh at 1200 watts or .16666 watts a gh.

I do not see it varying much from the range I give above.

They have lots  and lots of racks setup with lots of psu's  so the miner will fit in these specs somewhat

I would agree on staying with a design that keeps current PSU's.   Makes it easier for them internally to upgrade, saves costs on upgrade... so all makes sense.  So most likely a 3 blade miner.   I still don't know what to expect on timeline and specs.

Also it allows them to keep making/selling PSU's which were I'm sure a nice little bump in selling those with some of orders.  So in a way it can get them more profit at least on people that don't have PSU's already.

https://enforum.bitmain.com/bbs/topics/3433?page=1

^^^second from the last post has what I would assume is confirmation of the S9 being released very soon.

I missed it at first look.  Thanks for sharing that is interesting information for sure.  An official response I was not expecting.
910  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Spondoolies done? on: May 12, 2016, 12:45:05 AM
I wonder what happened with their 110TH/s units. The SP50.

Maybe by the time they sold them, they had devalued too much because their production time could not keep up with our Chinese friends?

I asked Guy if they made the chip ... no answer

I think if they had them we would have seen a demo video of them showing it off to try to get more investors/cash.  I'm guessing they did not have the chip and had not been working on it for a while (just speculation).  Once they heard bitfury's next gen specs... they had to re-evulate sp-50.

If they did have something I'm guessing early prototype and did not come close to spec.
911  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: $10,000-15,000 rig on: May 11, 2016, 04:28:38 PM
I have $10,000-15,000 to invest into Bitcoin/altcoin mining. I'd love for someone who's very experienced in the field to give me the hardware and shit that I can get for $10,000 and $15,000. I tried doing it myself but couldn't get around it. I'd probably go even up to $20,000 if that's something I'd need to make profit. Please do include cooling in the price. Thanks a lot!

There is more to it then just cooling.  You need a proper location with electricity wired, most likely 240 with this amount of miners.  Do you have an area wired for lots of watts of electricity?

What is your electricity price... as really it comes down to that.  Also without knowing location it's hard to do cooling as don't know if you will be doing with CFM's or Evaporation.  It highly depends on location.  So your asking kinda the impossible without knowing a lot more information.
912  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: generate 2 bitcoins per month? on: May 11, 2016, 04:23:34 PM
I generate some bitcoins per month. But I do not mine bitcoin directly. I use graphics cards to mine the altcoin and exchange into bitcoin.

Even if you go to altcoins you are talking a sizeable investment in GPU's to get 2 BTC per month (especially if you mean after costs).  And really only altcoin people are doing much is ether.  It's attracted a lot of attention lately.

But with this part of forum it should be direct BTC mining, not altcoins. So were talking more about BTC asics and mining with them.
913  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BW 14nm Miners Update on: May 11, 2016, 04:17:30 PM

The efficiency of the S7 also varies with the batch - the more recent lower chip count batches are LESS efficient than some of the early batches, as they're running fewer chips per string = higher operating voltage = lower efficiency (but higher hashrate capability abet at higher power use and heat level).

What S7 batch is currently the most efficient?  Also what are some of the other batches that are at least good runner ups in efficiency / most profitable to be running?  I want to know what used ones I should look for if I am going to buy some.

Look at the s7 page it has a good graph at bottom: https://bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020160510034707221GxQ3Yr280661

At batch 8 they perfected the lower chip and higher freq design.  This makes it lower cost to produce and should mean lower cost to us (in theory).  But it lost efficiency going with less chips and higher freq.
914  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Spondoolies done? on: May 11, 2016, 04:14:05 PM
What a crap article, so much typos. Anyways, i guess this just prove competing with China's cheap labor, parts and manufacture is a hard thing to do.

power costs killed them more then anything else
they never could self mine to off set costs

It was also the machines to though.  Compare the SP20 and S5 that went head to head.  SP20 was metal all the way around they really did not keep material cost down.  Then look at S5 they managed to use 2 slabs of plastic and keep cost's down.

So there really was a big difference on materials.  Bitmain just out designed them on a miner to sell to masses.  And SP claimed they lost money trying to compete on price with S5 (we cannot be sure if true).

But I do agree on power to if they would have self mined at less power costs... they might have been able to stay around much longer.

"Bitmain just out designed them"Huh Really???

You mean, Bitmain beat them by cutting corners and lowering the price. Design-wise Spondoolies SP20 was miles ahead of Bitmain S5. SP20 is an elegant piece of hardware, S5 is a junk in comparison. Bitmain just does NOT know how to DESIGN anything, they know how to CUT CORNERS for more PROFIT. Bitmain Sux.

I'm just so appalled by these pro-Bitmain people on the forum, do they get paid by Bitmain? If not, they must be smoking something.

Did I tell you how crappy Bitmain S5/S7 miners are? They sux.

To say that Bitmain's miners are subpar is fair, you can't for a second deny the fact that building things cheap and en masse is China in a nutshell. You've failed to consider the fact that in terms of price/reliability/efficiency they are fantastic (not perfect). You're arguing that "Spondoolie makes far superior miners" yet here they are, out of business, almost certainly due to refusing to "cut corners" as you put it.

Guess what, when your competition comes out with a cheaper, mass produced product and drives you out of business; THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF CAPITALISM! Just look at the f**king Iphone! A cheap, poorly made imitation product mass produced by nearly slave labor that holds a huge chunk of the market FOR THOSE PRECISE REASONS!

I have two family members who scoff anytime Bitcoin is mentioned because "China owns 70% of Bitcoin".

THIS FACT MAKES PERFECT SENSE!

China has 1bn people and some of the most restrictive currency controls. Of course they're adopting Bitcoin. They have one of if not the best mass-production capability for consumer products especially electronics. Of course they're mass-manufacturing miners.
Don't hate China for doing what they do best, don't even hate the USA or EU for NOT being the manufacturers, your livable wages and quality of life are the price you pay for your country not being able to compete with them. Whether that's good or bad is a pointless debate.

In any case I'm agreeing with notlist3d, you have made accusations regarding s7's causing house fires which is absolute nonsense. I have (through months of research preparing for my mining rig) come across ZERO incidents regarding a miner fire. I have found a couple incidents regarding electrical fires where miners happened to be the devices pulling the power when the electrical failed, most likely due to poor design or cutting corners. If you have a REAL incident regarding a MINER and NOT THE ELECTRICAL SERVICE causing a fire I would love to review that information. Not that it makes much of a difference because I built a fire-resistant enclosure for my mine because it made all the sense to do so.

tl;dr talks_cheep continues to be a hater with nothing to back it up Tongue

He likely will do like last thread and never come back after being asked for proof.  He made a big deal saying S7 burn down houses! But I have not seen a single report on forum of it with S7.

I almost feel like hes a troll at this point.  The fact is bitmain was able to keep putting out products.  People wanted the S5 at lower price per hash then a SP20 with a shinny nice metal case.  People spoke with their money.   And he mixes S5 and S7 into one... I see them as very different products.  And SP had nothing to even compete with S7, so hard to fight for their design when they really were no longer part of the equation.
915  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: May 11, 2016, 02:26:11 PM
I agree.

I will keep you informed, which results the tests gave.

I have now firmware dated oct 16th 2014

Could probably an update help ? (hence I seriously believe that this is a hardware failure...)

If you really have a hardware failure no re-loading/updating will do nothing.  But I would still try it as long as you made that back-up of sd card (read how to use win32diskimager to copy image and write image)  before throwing in the towel.

I am giving you some possible fixes.  But if hardware failure such as a blade going bad no it is not something you can really fix yourself. Unless you got a new blade or got old one fixed somehow.  But I would at least run through possible solutions before giving up.

And don't forget troubleshooting page for S4 over at: https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
916  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: REMOTE DESKTOP BIG PROBLEM PLEASE HELP on: May 11, 2016, 02:17:05 PM
Not sure how to setup VNC  Huh I'm noob about this

is your network location Public or Private? Some says that if your network type is Public instead of Private you won't be able to Remote Desktop.

How to change to private? this really matters?

I highly suggest with being new and confussed giving teamviewer a look over again.  It was mentioned and skipped over due to someone throwing FUD at it - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1467677.msg14810899#msg14810899

You don't have to be a wiz to use it.  And it's pretty easy to setup/use.
917  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Advice on Faucets? on: May 11, 2016, 02:13:01 PM
I have made a faucet and I just started out, so those anyone have any advice for starting a faucet?

Should I place ads? Make a rotator with it? Give insane referrals?

You are fighting a uphill battle due to faucets paying so little compared to time spent.    With being new yes you likely will have to do something to get attention paying better is most likely to get traffic.

On ad's how are you running a faucet without them?  I would think it is a must if your trying to get a profit.  You can add a rotator to your site... but unless something new/special I don't see it getting much traffic.
918  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: May 11, 2016, 02:05:18 PM
Hi community,

may i ask the forum again, who did have the same problem as I ?
"-" instead of "o"s or "x"

I will today open up the S4 and check for cables. Are these standard cables ? Or something special ?

When you look at my screenshot you will see that even temperature is not shown. I have the suspision, that cable is bad and the board does not get data from the controller and vice versa.

Again: any hints appreciated. Could somebody solve such a problem ?

I will be honest I doubt a cable went bad.  It can be easily tested though by switching cables in the S4 from one hashing board to another. You really need to open it up and look inside and make sure everything is snug on cables.

I still stick with: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=796839.msg14804352#msg14804352

You might bring it home from office to diagnose compared to having to go to office each time you want to work on it.

I'm not saying the SP20 was not a nice miner, I did like it.  But the all metal design and cost of making SP claimed to sell it at loss at end when trying to compete with bitmain on price.   So the "elegant piece of hardware" people did not care a much for a getting most hash for their money.  People went with the lower cost solution the S5.

I think designing out deigned them by offering a lower price solution with S5.  You could consider it out producing them vs out deigning them.  Either way though Bitmain won and SP lost.

You talk so bad on miners and seem to make up things to.  I'm still waiting on you to backup claims of:

S7 is a fire hazard, especially in hot climate like India. Many of the S7 owners risk burning down their houses. This will be a front page news in many countries around the world: "Bitcoin miner burns house down!"

Where are stories of S7's burning down houses?

May 11 2016   194,254,820,283   8.73%   1,390,530,167 GH/s

Ouch that kinda hurt, think we all have same feeling on that.   Value has picked up a little around 455, it seems we keep going between 450-460 a lot during this period.

So really going into next difficulty change with value of around 455.  Hopefully it can pickup more.
