To this title:

My 1 gpu now 11gpus 5rigs for Ethereum. 45 days of mining. Photos thoughts.

Original info below:

First off I made a lot of money  with LTC and gpu rigs.  Then was crashed by asics for ltc gridseed and GAW killed me.

But I kept a rig and it just sat on a shelf doing nothing. I decided to bring it back to life.

Cost = zero usd.

Some details and photos to follow.

The rig is a sapphire hd7970 with a huge heat sink the biggest and baddest around .  I can not get my hd7970 to overheat.

So what are your projected earnings after power cost?

This is a secondary account .

So what are your projected earnings after power cost?

My watts are 201  with a bronze psu.

201 watts = 5 kwatts a day or 150 kwatts a month.

NJ power cost is high.  12.7 cents winter and 16.7 cents summer.
So 19 usd per month until May 31
then  25 usd a month

In theory  earnings are 92.41 a month see below

Approximated Earnings

Period   ETH   BTC   USD
Minute   0.000   0.000005   0.002
Hour   0.012   0.000308   0.128
Day   0.297   0.007403   3.080
Week   2.081   0.051823   21.562
Month   8.920   0.222097   92.406
Calculated based on average block time, average difficulty, difficulty change tendency and your average hashrate for last 6 hours.

Do I think I should add a card to this  maybe I  will  I have to decide today

i would definetily add more card, i'm building a rig myself, so far 3 gpu only, not so sure if i should push it to six or waiting for better time, but i'm not going to sell it anymore, at worst i'll sell the gpu only

there is something profitable to mine with gpu, i'm not buying anymore the whole "gpu is dead  etc...."

I am impressed that 200 watts pulls in 90 usd a month.

Adding a r9 380 for 200 or less may be worth doing.

A few weeks ago you could earn $150 a month on that card but you know how difficulty goes.  I would add another card being your true roi for the second card will be cut in half being you have a rig already paid for.  I have read from some members on here that there is always a coin to mine and personally I think even after eth there will be something to profit from even though it will probably be much less .  I have 2 coins on the back burner that i can switch to when ether gets to that point but currently they make about 50% less.

Another thing is before ether became hot shit people were mining making meh ok profit but some were holding a lot of coins in speculation of the future and then the market cap exploded making them a nice amount (if they held).  There could be anther coin making some very small waves but the general pubic doesn't notice until there is a tsunami coming right at them.   Cool

I like my cost for the rig = $0

I like my power cost 25 usd per month at worst in the summer.

200 watts is also pretty low on heat  so I do not worry about cooling it off.

I ordered a card today from Amazon .

I will post on it once I set it up.

it was more one month ago and it will be less in one month, probably half of it, it's better to have always one rig prepared for those profitable waves

1 card will not squeeze you enough those good waves, you need to increase the total hash, it's a business on a smaller scale than asic, but it work even better some times

Philip, very happy to see you stepping foot in the Ethereum world! You're work in the BTC community is wonderful and I learned a lot from you when I was first educating myself with crypto.

Nice starter rig, now grab a few more GPUs, build a nice frame, and get those puppies on risers! BTW what mobo is that? How many PCI-E slots can you expand with? I think that board has 4? (2 PCI-E x16, 2 PCI-e X1).

I have 8 GPUs running right now on 3 rigs. (I took the money I was going to use on that Avalon6 Group buy and built my Eth rigs).

Currently running:

4x 280X - approx 21 MH/s each
2x 7950 - approx 19 MH/s each
1x 7990 - approx 19 MH/s one core overheats and will not hash -  need to take apart and try reapplying thermal grease. Can't find any program to undervolt it properly either.

According to kill-a-watt i'm at 1550 Watts total power draw. I've undervolted half the cards to around 1.1V, some I have not had time to adjust. I think I've saved around 150 -200W total so far by doing this.

Total Hashrate: ~140 at 1550 Watts

EDIT: BTW the $1400 I was planning on using for the ASIC miner netted me a profit to date of $3200 by going with ETH. A lot of that had to do with getting into Eth just before it blew up, but I think alt mining can still be more profitable than BTC especially with no new hardware being released from bitfury or bitmain (16nm tech that is). Cheers.

Nice little system Phil.  It looks like with some riser boards you could get at least 2 more cards connected to that mobo.  Let me know if you want those video cards back lol.

i am adding 1 more card that is it.

the rig can do 3 cards but two will be enough.

I dug up a plat psu and my watts are 185 for 19 mh

I am also mining to an exchange  rather then to my wallet since these will just be cashed out.  Will cash out at the exchange once a week.

I do have a wallet and can mine to a wallet if I want to.

keep those cards you may as well hook up a rig for a month make some coins then play videos with them.

I will never go back to my 23 gpu  11 pc days .

I would build 2 gpu rigs mine underclocked for 2 months then sell as gaming/mining rigs on ebay too much work.  Made money though.

You can always mine X11 with that Tahiti based GPU and get about 11MH/s with the optimized bin file.

For the last 48 hours I think you would of made a little more with X11 than ETH according to Nicehash.

Uses a little more power however.

I will probably get rid of all but 2 GPUs. Maybe even sell them as fully assembled rigs. I game pretty frequently so it would be good to have a crossfire setup.

Don't really care as I don't want to go down the rabbit hole and end up with 10 pc's running 30 to 40 gpus.

I ordered an r7 370 from amazon  a 4gb model should get 15-17mh  but use under 140 watts.

I dug up a platinum corsair and tweaked the hd7970 to get about 20mh at 185 watts.

if I end up with 35-38mh at 325 watts I am fine with ethereum.

I have a photo of a cleaned up setup.
It is so quiet I can watch tv sitting 2 feet from it

7950/7970/280/280x are suffering with that big DAG size@ETH. There are clones with smaller DAG.
