901  Economy / Lending / Re: need 5 BTC loan QUICK on: August 02, 2013, 09:19:45 AM
I scam-tagged him here. Note that scammer tags aren't normally being given out now unless in extreme cases like this. Use the feedback system instead.
We need a tag specially for joeyjmr848 Cheesy

Isn't "joeyjmr848" enough of a scammer tag already?

Describe your disorder.

Weed addiction?

Onkel Paul

PS: If you have a real medical condition you need a doctor's prescription and those don't normally require you to buy meds with bitcoin.
I know that health insurances are quite different around the world, especially in developing nations such as the USA where getting medical help might be difficult if you're not able to pay :-)
But there should be a standard way of getting your needed medication in your country even if you are personally broke.

We need an ignore+ option to ignore all posts from someone plus all posts quoting him :-)
Maybe the next forum software can include this...

Me and my mom were both napping.

You shouldn't do that. See what can happen when you aren't awake?
Maybe you should arrange with your mom to watch in shifts so you don't miss the next delivery.

905  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: self ssl certificate vs commerically issued- your thoughts as a buyer? on: July 25, 2013, 03:16:44 PM
Self signed with GPG key is good but depends on two non-trivial assumptions:
- GPG key of the site's operator is known and trusted
- customer knows how to use GPG in the first place.

ah - thanks for your answer  Smiley. 20% seems about right to me from the blocks I solved with v7 vs v5. I had about half my instances on v5 and half on v7.

edit: NVM I understand the debug file and why it fluctuates. the stats are calculated based on last 60 seconds of mining, then multiplied by 60 to get per hour.

I really wish it was averaged over a longer period, now I have to monitor the average with a shell script.

Use the source, Luke!
(it's open source, you know...)

Changing the code to compute a sliding average over the last half hour or so should be a bit easier than implementing a faster prime finding algorithm :-)

907  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: self ssl certificate vs commerically issued- your thoughts as a buyer? on: July 25, 2013, 12:11:53 PM
Self-signed provides security against network sniffers but unless your users import the certificate into their browser from a secure source they could be subject to a man-in-the-middle attack.
Commercially issued certificates are quite a bit better because they are always traceable back to a root certificate - MitM attacks are much more difficult for ordinary criminals, although I think there have been cases where criminal governments have compromised CAs to obtain fake root certificates for such purposes.
As a buyer, I would be a bit uneasy when a site uses a self-signed certificate and switches between http and https "arbitrarily". Those sites that use https only for the payment pages typically state that very clearly to avoid confusion.

Joey obviously is a big a**hole and deserves all kinds of shit, but sending pizzas his way is hurting the wrong people: pizza maker and delivery driver.
Whoever is doing this, stop it.
If you can't come up with legit ways of pestering Joey without annoying innocent third parties, just leave him alone.
His life is already pretty miserable, and it will most likely get worse over time by his own actions.

909  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie notification on: July 23, 2013, 09:14:25 AM
Here we are, I'm experiencing similar problem, because I couldn't find the newbies section.
You could maybe add a link to the newbies section in the initial notification for newbies...
Cheers, Nicolas.

The link to the Newbies section is right there in the open on the starting page of the forum (you admittedly need to scroll a little).
If a newbie can't be bothered to scroll down to find it most people here are very likely not interested in what he wants to say.
Newbies can still read forum posts, and if they "accidentally" find the newbie section they have hopefully read enough to write meaningful posts themselves.

I know it has been cheaper, but I remember one time I looked at the price of BTC and it was selling for $3. I was wondering if I could buy some for that price plus 10%.

Any takers?

I think I have a little bit from that time and would perhaps sell it for the price.
However, I would have to add storage and maintenance fees on the order of $90/BTC ... :-)

I feel like I been in the dark when it comes to btc now that I found this forum I usually stay away from them due to trolls but there's some useful information here I only found this place after being tired of the exchanges crap I'm here to buy btc and wanting to get involved in the forum

Welcome!
There are more than enough trolls here, so tread carefully. Be extra cautious about those who use no punctuation :-)

Also that photo was taken before he changed his profile picture.

It's probably stolen from somewhere. If his intent was to scam people, he would most likely not use a real photo.

Currently Primecoin seems to be set up with no transaction fees.
I don't know whether that will change when the network is swamped with transactions.
I think that since there is no rigid reduction of mining rewards, transaction fees are not needed to keep miners happy as with Bitcoin :-)

That the wallet doesn't show tx fee in the configuration is a bug. http://www.ppcointalk.org/index.php?topic=333.0

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I must admit I never tried to transfer the ~20 XPC that my aging i3 CPU mined when XPM was young :-)

916  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Bitcoins VERkaufen, wo? on: July 16, 2013, 05:38:51 PM

can i mine this without running the wallet?
yes, run the primecoind instead. remember to edit the conf file add: gen=1

Actually, primecoind also runs the wallet (you can execute transactions using its RPC interface) but it does not have a GUI.
If that's what was meant by "without running the wallet" everything is fine :-)

I'm considering to throw out my TV set. Bitcointalk entertainment is definitely of better quality.
