901  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: He Used Our Wedding Savings to Play Bet on: October 26, 2023, 08:57:47 AM
In life, we make decisions based on our needs placed in order of importance. If the man sees marriage as a cardinal need he wouldn't have risked such an amount on gambling. Greed played an important role in this senseless bet. His excuse that wanted to make more money so that the burden of the wedding expenses would not be on the lady is silly. He would have worked harder or taken another job to achieve that. The simple reason for his behavior is he is very greedy or suffering from gambling addiction. The lady should be careful of him because he might sell their belongings to gamble. He should seek help that will enable him to control his gambling drive. The bride-to-be should also check if he is not addicted to something else like hard drugs.
902  Economy / Economics / Re: Dangers of combining company and personal funds in the same account on: October 26, 2023, 08:33:18 AM
Combining your company and personal funds in the same account is one of the most common problems of a start up entrepreneurs, this is what we called commingling funds. It can be a serious problem and it leads you to a personal liability for your business debts if this can't prevent as early as now. It's best to maintain a separate bank accounts for your personal and business transactions as well as to keep you books diligently, that's why it is essential to have your company accountant/bookkeeper.
The business should be seen as a separate entity that should live an independent life from the owner. In the face of the law, a registered business is a person that can sue and be sued. Until business owners understand this concept, their businesses will keep failing. The first thing a business owner should know is record-keeping and many businesses don't care about that because the business is not seen as a person.

Some business owners claim that their inability to read and write has limited them from keeping records and they don't have the money to hire an accountant. I usually tell them that illiteracy is not an excuse because they can still separate businesses for personal dealing. They should simply pay themselves wages or salary and never spend more than their earnings.
903  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bull season started? on: October 26, 2023, 08:09:52 AM
The recent surge in BTC to the $35k region has led many to believe that the bull market is back. Some analysts believe this is just the effect of historical October patterns, and we may see a significant pullback for accumulation and liquidity purposes before the bull season kicks off. I'm confused, which is why I'm here. What's your opinion, fellow traders?"
I don't think that the bull run has started, maybe this is just a preamble of what we will expect next year. And what makes next year unique is that we are expecting two significant events which are the Bitcoin halving and spots Bitcoin ETF. The SEC's decision on the approval is unpredictable so it might not be proper to depend on their approval to make predictions. However, I expect the price of Bitcoin to get to its highest past price or even greater than that. I will suggest that you trade with caution because the market is highly unpredictable.
904  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Relying on gamble wins is dangerous to mental health on: October 25, 2023, 03:10:11 PM
Having hope and positive expectations is always a good thing but the expectations should not be too high because luck is not something you can control. Gambling can be a lot of fun but it's very necessary to always approach it with a healthy attitude. It's a game of chance in which there's no guarantee of winning. Unrealistic expectations can lead to disappointment and frustration, so it's best to be mindful of them and remain calm waiting for the outcome of the game than to start planning on how to spend invisible money. There's nothing wrong with a little bit of optimism when you're placing a bet. But it's paramount to keep your expectations realistic and to understand that the odds are not in your favor because your chance of losing is always higher than the chance of winning.
I have a friend who has very high expectations regarding his bets. He told me that he would move his entire family to a developed world when he wins some huge amount of money. I like his expectations and goals but he has a wrong perception about gambling. I have also observed that he is not always happy and sounds depressed sometimes. From all observation, he gambles within his means but his expectations are too high which is affecting his mood. As you observed @knowngunman we should have a reasonable expectation because gambling is unpredictable to avoid mental health issues.
905  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: October 25, 2023, 01:54:45 PM
Yes, but in my opinion you don't have to let go of Luka Modric because this player has been at Real Madrid for a very long time and he also certainly knows what history can give him a big opportunity to get a trophy in the Champions League even though young players are more efficient at turning their performance into a stronger one but Young players need senior players to appear stronger.
But if Ancelotti has to let go of this player and chooses to keep the young player, that would be the best decision because Ancelotti carries out a policy like this usually has a very good plan for the future.
Letting players leave a club depends on some factors which include the coach's plans, financial standing,  competent replacement, and of course the player's quality. In terms of quality, Luka Modric's performance is not that impressive because of his age. He might not be too strong to give the team the needed support like he used to do when he was younger. The club has a very qualified replacement who is at his best currently, Jude Bellingham is one of the best midfielders in La Liga. No coach will keep such player on the bench for Luka.

Coach Ancelotti has made it clear that Luka is part of his plans, so he is still important to the club. But the truth remains that Luka will only serve as a substitute to Jude. I don't think Real Madrid is going through any financial stress so they can be able to afford his pay. The Croatian has to patiently wait for him to be given chances to feature in games or he could move to another club.
906  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Just like visiting a cinema on: October 25, 2023, 12:16:36 PM
Why not treat casinos the same ways like you are going to the movies or bowling? You are simply paying for the experience and the entertainment, it's either you enjoy it or you may not, can you feel me? You don't know how bad a movie can be until you watched it, so....
I appreciate your creativity @OP in linking cinema and gambling. When you watch the previews of some films it will be so attractive that you will be pleased to buy the tickets to view it. In some cases, you will discover that the movie is not what you expected. The quality, character, or even production might become below your standard. Seeing gambling as an entertainment that cannot be predicted just like the movie is a good one. Just as the movie might be interesting or not, that is how you can win or lose in gambling.

Watching movies is a good example because it does not cost much to buy a ticket, which also points to the fact that we should gamble will a little portion of our income. People who see gambling as their major source of income either become addicts or suffer from financial problems.
907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shame on haters for claiming that crypto is widely used in terrorist financing! on: October 25, 2023, 11:20:10 AM
The US government is coming up with laws that will make mixing services a threat to the county's security. What is their reason? There is news going around that Hamas is using cryptocurrencies to finance the war in the Middle East. The government immediately used this unverified information as the major reason to truncate the freedom and privacy these services offer. If this law is enforced in the US there are possibilities that other copycat nations will follow suit. it is not a surprise that they want to invoke section 311 of the Patriot Act to classify privacy as terrorist financing. They know that cryptocurrencies play an insignificant role in terrorist financing but they just simply want everybody to be under their watch. But there will always be a way out.
908  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: US Treasury against cryptomixers on: October 25, 2023, 10:43:07 AM
Does this have anything to do with the current war in Gaza between Hamas and Israel? I mean, has it really been revealed that Bitcoin mixing operations were carried out by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad?
This accusation is baseless because there is no evidence that Hamas is receiving funds through cryptocurrencies. But there has been pressure from some lawmakers led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren for the crackdown on privacy services providers to curb the perceived flow of funds.

"The Biden administration is set Thursday to designate international “mixers,” cryptocurrency exchanges that provide customers anonymity, as money-laundering hubs that threaten national security. The designation, a form of sanction, will require special reporting for any financial transactions.

The date was reported on 10/19. Was such legislation passed or was it part of the media war and statements that spread from 10/7?
Some words in the article, such as the future of the global financial system, make me doubt whether it is real news or whether the project has been implemented.
It is just a proposed new regulation that would go through some process before it finally becomes a law. This proposed law will be uncovered tomorrow and it will go through public scrutiny for ninety days before it will either be adopted or shelved.
909  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning]: Fake Emergency aid to Gaza website on: October 24, 2023, 09:24:49 AM
Using the ongoing genocide of Palestinians to rip people off has to be a new low. Besides, money is not going to help Palestinians who are placed in a prison called Gaza that is surrounded on all sides by the terrorists who bomb them day and night with their US donated fighter jets and bombs.
Gaza is practically under siege, I don't know what this donation could buy for these victims now. What the people need now cannot be bought with money. Firstly the bombing needs to stop and there should be freedom of movement products. I don't think any goods can be smuggled in to Gaza. Maybe the funds would be used after the total blockage is over.

This is not a new low at all. Scammers have always been doing things like this throughout all recorded cases of violence or crisis.
It makes it almost impossible to trust anything one sees on the internet, I certainly will not send money to any random website or handle without doing days worth of research and communication with those who are handling it.
Humanity is failing because materialism has infused animalism into humans. Deaths and destruction mean nothing to people and they see it as a major source of revenue. One needs to be careful not to send money to some set of criminals who are lavishly living in hotels meanwhile the victims of the war are suffering from lack. Verifying these websites is important.

Source: https://twitter.com/deadlinedaylive/status/1716046741571555390

The rumors are still quite hot and I think this will be a very interesting thing if it really happens. It is reported that Graham Potter will become Manchester United coach to replace Erik Ten Hag. Maybe some time ago we heard that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would acquire 25% of Manchester United's shares, so it is possible that he also has the authority to determine the coach for Manchester United.

I don't know what special relationship Sir Jim Ratcliffe has with Graham Potter, but seeing the poor results achieved by Graham Potter while coaching Chelsea last season, it will only make things worse at Manchester United. Wouldn't it be ridiculous if Manchester United trusted Graham Potter to replace Erik Ten Hag? and I think this will only anger Red Devils fans. Could Graham Potter be heading to Old Trafford? And have Manchester United taken the right steps to improve their situation in the future?
If Graham Potter is evaluated by his performance in Chelsea, I don't consider him a good replacement for Erik Ten Hag. But considering his work in Brighton the Englishman has some qualities that will make him succeed. He was behind the success of Brighton and his great work attracted the attention of Chelsea. Manchester United is a team with a great history and the expectation of the fans is very high so they need a better coach. Except Sir Jim Ratcliffe knows we don't, I am not sure Potter should be the best replacement for the current coach. Many top-class coaches in the market can be attracted to Old Trafford and a good example is Zinadene Zidane. Sir Jim Ratcliffe's acquisition of 25% of the club's ownership will not give him the sole authority to appoint a coach, other stakeholders have the right to make inputs.
911  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling industry is using big tobaccos playbook on: October 24, 2023, 07:48:21 AM
The rise of online gambling in the U.S. and abroad has led to a rise in the number of young men grappling with gambling addiction, which can cause financial and psychological issues for both the gamblers and those around them.  As many as half of people with a gambling addiction suffer with suicidal ideation, according to the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling.
This is not just the problem of gambling, it is majorly the effect of ICT. The internet has made the accessibility of almost every activity easy. With a mobile phone, you can place a bet in any casino or sports bet platform. Due to the internet here is also a rise in drug, pornography, and alcohol addiction which has led to an increase in depression and suicide.

Quote
The “omnipresent” and loosely regulated barrage of gambling advertisements online and on television—often featuring a celebrity endorsement— have only helped to further normalize the industry to children at a young age, the authors state, adding that educational programs and treatment programs for children to learn about responsible gambling have even begun to be sponsored by the industry itself."
Most children see these celebrities as their role models, so there is a need to make policies that will protect children from underage gambling. The use of sports stars, musicians, and other celebrities for promotion should be limited to some websites with fewer children's views and erring gambling firms should be sanctioned accordingly.

If anyone on here is suffering from a gambling addiction and you are experiencing signs of self harm and feel that you cannot stop DO NOT BE SILENT! Seek the help of your family and friends, no matter how embarrassing you may feel. It could honestly save your life and save your well being.

I just thought that this was really important to share. Good luck and be safe out there guys!

TREAD

Some people keep their gambling life secret from family members and friends so they might be scared of speaking to anyone. One good thing about the internet is that it can also help you to seek help from any part of the world. You can access or contact an online gambling therapist and get the needed help. Most gamblers who became depressed and started having suicidal thoughts failed to seek help. There is no shame in seeking help, after all, everybody has personal problems.
912  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blackrock ETF/Bitcoin will destroy the (new) cryptocurrency industry soon... on: October 24, 2023, 06:53:12 AM
Bitcoin is not the real threat. It is actually all the other new cryptocurrencies which are much much much more advanced than Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is old and obsolete compared to the new stuff.
The age of bitcoin or the creation of new altcoins doesn't make Bitcoin obsolete. These altcoins are mere copycats and there is no way a fake product can be better than the original.

Quote
Conclusion:

Major financial attack coming on the cryptocoin industry/cryptocoin currencies ! Most shitcoins will go to zero/become worthless.

My estimate would be: Destruction within one week, maybe even just a couple of days as people start to realize what is going on.

Whoever sells their shitcoins last, is going to be the major sucker....
There is no valid proof that your assumptions are certain. But I have never been a fan of altcoin so your advice looks valid to me. You have to understand that everyone has their plans. Many of them are willing to take the risk of keeping these altcoins because they believe in them.

And whether BlackRock will succeed in its application or not, Bitcoin will get back to $69,000, reach $100,000 and beyond.
The $1millon and above bitcoin price prediction that I have been seeing currently seems like a dream to me. $70k and above looks more reasonable.

914  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: October 23, 2023, 09:02:05 AM
My Uncle has always told me of how fierce Italian sides have been from time and how most of the world best defenders came from that league. I expected the good defense from Juventus but not the win, glad they could get that still, they made the fans proud.
Ac Milan now must not look at the lose. Yes it hurts to win game that will take them to the top of the league but they should focus on the game against Paris Saint Germany.

The both sides created chances that lead to goal. Ac Milan goalkeeper used was agile despite his age. (40) Some great saves too else Dusan Vlahovic should have made that double.
The red card against Thiaw in the fortieth minute affected the game immensely. Before the red card, AC Milan was attacking aggressively and created few chances. But the booking made them focus more on defending and little attention was given to the attack. Juventus ensured that they maximized the deficiency of Milan and kept mounting pressure on the host's defense. It paid off in the sixty-third minute when former Milan player Manuel Locatelli struck that powerful shot that rattled Mirante. The forty-year-old Milan’s third-choice goalkeeper proved himself to be a good backup with some good saves in the game. He was able to save shots from Andrea Cambiaso and Dusan Vlahovic. AC Milan just lost an opportunity to go to the top of the table but they can redeem themselves in the game against PSG and Napoli.
915  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin were a physical currency. on: October 23, 2023, 07:51:40 AM
I'm new here and don't know much about bitcointalk forums. But I thought about Bitcoin for a while. At one point I wondered what it would be like if Bitcoin was a physical currency instead of a digital currency. It would not have gained so much popularity, and its price would not have increased so much. If it were a physical currency, it would be very difficult to buy, how would you buy? And had to go to different stores to sell or buy. How difficult it would have been then. Are you thinking about this?
I don't know your location but if you are not from the US and Europe, I am not sure your nation's currency is popular. Many factors contributes to the popularity of a currency. My country's currency is not well-known outside our sub-region.

Even in the face of daily increases in the development of more digital currency, bitcoin's popularity keeps growing which means that it is not just the digital currency status that is making it more popular. Bitcoin is popular because of its uniqueness which distinguishes it from other currencies. It has given people the uncommon privilege of enjoying privacy and bypassing financial middlemen. It has also helped people to have unlimited access to their funds which is not common with conventional fiat currency. OP it is true that the digital nature of bitcoin has made it easy to acquire it. But don't also forget that many countries also have CBDC and they are not still popular.
916  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Careful scammers and hackers using mail spoofing on: October 23, 2023, 05:37:26 AM
for sure lots of people have been a victim of this, a few years back one of my clients has also been a victim of ransomware, and emails saying they have your data, so be very careful about what you do, and never communicate with them as much as possible.
Who among you also received this kind of scam and tricks what did you do, we could also educate new comers so that they will not fall victim to this kind of scam and hacking.

Some persons have fallen into this scam and paid some money to stop these scammers from exposing their confidential information. But they later find out that paying ransom is a grave mistake because they will not stop blackmailing and asking for more money. If one receives such an email,  just do a security check and take necessary protective actions. If it is fake, stop communicating with these criminals. But if it is true that he has some of your information, gather enough evidence and report to the relevant authority. Scammers will become powerless if they know that you are not ready to give them anything.
917  Economy / Economics / Re: Nigerian naira hits record black market low of 1,100 per dollar on: October 23, 2023, 05:06:30 AM
It's a dire situation for the currency and its holders.

It has been calling for the last decade now, from as low as N150 to $1 to N450 and then N750 climbing up to N1000, but the rate of collapse has never been this rapid. It usually bounces around with periods of increase and decrease in value, but now it's a one-way traffic.

A lot has to be done on the economy to revive that and create some demand for the currency.
When the former central bank governor came up with the redesigning of the Naira notes before the general elections, it affected the flow of the old and even new currency, and the Naira became very scarce. Politicians needed money to buy votes and the naira was not available. With their connection in the central bank, these politicians began to have access to the dollars. USD that would have been used to engage in meaningful business transactions was distributed among criminal politicians. After the elections the dollars became scarce and the central bank couldn't handle the demand for the currency from businesses and individuals. This led to the the rise in price of the dollar in the black market making the value of the naira keep experiencing an uncontrollable fall.

I cannot imagine how the local currency could be reduced from 1,100 to 1,250 in one day. What would the lives of middle-class individuals be like, especially since salaries and jobs do not directly interact with the continuous decline in the local currency, and it may take a year or two before they are adjusted. Frankly, I do not have detailed information about Nigeria, but there must be an economic failure for the exchange rate to move from 150 to 1250. It is good that there is activity in the LB here.
In Nigeria minimum wage is reviewed after five to seven years. Workers will have to lobby the government and engage in several industrial actions such as protests and strikes before they will get the needed attention from the government. The average Nigerian worker is suffering and smiling this is why many professionals are migrating to other countries to seek greener pastures. And many people are also joining politics so that the can be able to steal their quota of the national treasury.
918  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your doubt has no effect on gambling. on: October 22, 2023, 01:26:44 PM
However, I will say that even your doubt can not make a game that you are supposed to win lose, because gambling doesn't work with mindset, it works with the risk and not your fear. Why the risk is because if you don't risk your money in gamble, you will not lose or even win.
The reason why every gambler places a bet is to win. You have confidence that the game will go as you predicted. Sometimes one can carelessly place a bet but you still expect it to gain from it. Your position that gambling doesn't work with mindset is confusing but I think you are saying that wins depend solely on luck. You believe in the statement that "what must be will surely be". But looking at your bet slip, I think your predictions were fantastic and you were lucky to win the game. This kind of win when staked with a huge sum can make one an instant millionaire.  However, enjoy your win.
919  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Crypto Groups Gemini, Genesis, and DCG Sued for $1.1 Billion ‘Fraud’ on: October 22, 2023, 12:53:44 PM
https://www.wired.com/story/crypto-gemini-genesis-dcg-sued-billion-dollar-fraud/
"IN THE STATE of New York, where Sam Bankman-Fried, founder of fallen crypto exchange FTX, is standing trial for fraud, the attorney general has accused a further three high-profile crypto businesses of lying to their customers. Crypto exchange Gemini, run by the Winklevoss twins, Cameron and Tyler, as well as crypto lender Genesis and its parent company, Digital Currency Group, have been charged with causing a combined $1.1 billion in losses for hundreds of thousands of investors."
__
Also a very interesting saga in the continuation of the story with the FTX exchange. I am sure that the Gemini management understood what clowns were running the FTX exchange and Alameda, but nevertheless gave them money.
The New York attorney general has the role of protecting the interest of these investors, filling this suit against Gemini and Genesis is lawful. Customers were informed that thier investment was safe and secure and nobody told them about the risk their funds were exposed to. I am sure many people wouldn't have invested if they knew how Gemini intends to use the funds to make a profit. It is annoying to see how people's hard-earned money is being mismanagement by greedy people who lack financial intelligence.

An analysis of the operation of Genesis will expose you to careless and uncollateralized lending that led to its financial woes. The worst part of it was that they were concealing the losses from customers. Maybe they wanted to come up with a shitcoin that will be used to pay these greedy clients. I call them greedy people because 8% interest looks suspicious.
920  Economy / Economics / Re: Bangladesh economy facing headwinds on: October 22, 2023, 11:35:58 AM
I highly recommend following the Bangladesh situation. It will be a "live economic show" about "Chinese friendship, aid and investment". I assume the outcome will be the same as with Sri Lanka. We can even place bets. Bangladesh is very sorry that they fell for this dubious friendship and did not take into account the experience of their neighbors. I have previously described how the situation will develop, and this scheme China uses with all its "friends", and Bangladesh will not be an exception. So, let's take popcorn, sit back and watch....
I don't know much about China's partnership with Bangladesh but I am aware that almost all the countries that became friendly with China in Africa are suffering from severe economic problems. I can not also conclude that China is the sole cause of this problem because other reasons like corruption might have contributed to these financial problems. But Chinese loans are an economic death sentence. The interest rate is outrageous and the terms of loans are kept secret from even the legislature. These loans and the terms of repayment are not in public space for scrutiny. These loans are tied to collateral which even include handing over the sovereignty of the nation to China.

Due to the interest rate and other conditions, many nations such as Ghana and Zambia cannot meet the repayment plan. Kenyan parliament is asking for renegotiation of the loan because of the burden it has placed on the nation. There was turmoil in the Nigerian parliament when the term of a Chinese loan was secretly exposed. It became clear that the presidency and minister of transportation signed a loan that could make Nigeria China's vassal state.
