9001  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: September 15, 2014, 08:11:58 PM
Waiting since early this morning for my pair of S3+'s.  UPS, signature required.  It's 4PM.  Just got a call from a neighbor.  They have two packages addressed to me on their porch since around noon.

I typically pop out the door when I expect miners and see the UPS truck.
Funny: one time a UPS guy could not handle S2 (40lb) and dropped it from the shoulder hight straight to the cabin floor, and then he saw me staring at him with bemusement. I accepted the package (it worked kind of ok afterwards), but made him to make a note that it was dropped (just in case).

Same issue as baykan.
Sent the payment 5 mins after placing order..
Been 6 hours since I sent payment, still showing expired.
+1

to all worriers:
1. you don't have to do anything, they usually square it out in 24 hr.
2. if you still want to be proactive, email info@bitmaintech.com (not the webmaster@) and include your transaction id.
3. Last, but not least, do not pay bitmain from coinbase as it often takes an hour to post the first confirm.

ANTMINER S3+ -B9 sales open, shipping starts on Sept. 18th  Smiley

Price:      0.58 BTC
Total disappointment. Will skip this batch at this price.
Total agreement.

and wait for what exactly? this is basically in-stock

You could order a tube at .96 BTC per 1 TH/s Or, this costs 1.28 BTC per 1 TH/s (both are similarly overclockable so I am just comparing stock clocks).  The tube is in stock and is only 3/4 of the price of the S3.  These are nice, but not worth the 33% extra cost.  Maybe 10% at most.  The tube is a much better deal.

Assembled tube is $400 plus shipping, so $430-440.
So, both cost approximately the same $/Gh ($0.55/Gh for not overclocked tube and $0.554/Gh for overclocked S3).
Tube deployment costs $34/mo more than of S3 (tube not overclocked, S3 overclocked) per deployed Th if you plug in $0.12/kw electricity cost.
The difference would be even bigger if you overclock the tube.
In addition, S3 has a solid resale market (important!) and known reliability and ease of use.
I say, advantage to Bitmain, unless you are very technically adept and will assemble tube yourself and use it only a couple of mo.

I'm still waiting for my B8 order to ship. Any Sep purchases shipped yet?
If you go back a few pages, you'll see that the majority of them have.  Might check with Bitmain.

I'm a September 8 order and I'm still waiting. Considering the fact that it's 11:30PM in Beijing, I don't think it will go out until tomorrow or Wednesday. Kind of ridiculous that they opened up Batch 9 sales before they finished shipping out Batch 8 IMO.

you seem to have almost the last b8 order and since the price is THE SAME, why does it matter?
B8 was promised to be delivered by Sept 20 and you would most likely get it by Fri.
Did you look at the web site (your account). It should say "paid", otherwise it was a mixup.
maybe your miner was sent already (sometimes they have a delay-up to 24 hr-in posting the info).
Go to advanced tracking in UPS and "track by reference number", which is the number that you got when you got email that payment was received.

Maybe Sponds PR or sales department should correct these guys:
http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-mining-can-longer-ignore-moores-law/

ridiculous : S3 posted as 3Th, BTC garden at 3.5Th, Spond is NOT there at 4.5 TH (real machine) and some stupid minerscube is indicated at 8.5 Th (I don't think that it is real-sounds scammy)
9007  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: September 15, 2014, 01:08:21 PM
A question to spondoolies:

I ordered Sp-30 (September batch 1) and payed for it in the first half of June.
I already asked shipping and got no firm date for shipping in response, which is strange.

Did anybody else received their September orders?

I have had similar response when I asked as well. Be nice if we could get a more firm answer. I had hoped Sept batch 1 meant early Sept, but I should know better by now I guess.

Welcome to PREORDERing.  When they have something in stock I will purchase.

My unit was shipped today. It was the last day of the first half of the month, but it was done on schedule (1st batch-1st half), I appreciate it.
9008  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: September 14, 2014, 09:25:10 PM
No love for the little guy anymore?
Always. It depends on our relative advantage.
In 2015, it might be in a form of a mining facility "bond".

Payable in BTC?
Not clear how this could be even possible since mining facility most value is in miners, not the walls (which could be quite cheap) or ventilation (no A/C needed in many places). Because miners value would be decreasing steadily, how would you assure bondholders that if mining facility goes bankrupt they will have something to recover their principal?

Biodom: I saw you deleted your post. As always there are "pain in the -beep-" customers and customers you like to work with. The good customer understands what he's buying, and he tries to help in the process. They get their issues solved quick (if any) because the personnel likes to work with them and they point exactly to the problem they have.

The other category keeps the vendor busy with questions, changes, options, more changes, does not regard deadlines, timelines, weekends .. they're the "customer" so if you want their business they will push you over the normal limits. As a manufacturer, you either "educate" your poor performing clients, or you drop them.

As a business, you get reviews from all over, and you struggle to keep up with demands OR you run your business decently, with strict rules for everyone. Stricter rules might seem a "bad business practice" in the beginning, but in the long run you end up having a happy life.

not sure what you referred to. I deleted a post about price because somebody already answered and this guy was satisfied, so why clutter.
I am also not sure about strict rules as far as what this referrs to, but i believe in sponds integrity, however communication about shipment queue could be better.
regarding weekend-it is currently NOT a weekend in Israel. Sunday is a working day, Fri and saturday are the weekend AFAIK.

Regarding pain-in-the butt customers-sometimes they are complaining, but buying-just look at one OP (hint-hint). He is buying from everybody: Spond, KnC, Bitmain, etc. etc and he complains about every one of them, but keeps coming back. it's much better than to have a customer who gets so offended, that they NEVER come back-just look at BFL or KnC message boards-it is epic.

What is or was the Price of the SP31? I have been going back and forth with SP-Tech Sales, however I cannot seem to get the answer to the only question I care about.

So frustrating Sad

I realize there is a huge time gap so I have tried to be patient however its been over a week and all I need to know to decide is what the price of the unit is.

I should add I want to know the price to see if I want to use a coupon or a refund.

There are no Sp-31 on sale anyway, so why this matters. Choosing coupon vs refund time has passed as well AFAIK.
9011  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: September 14, 2014, 03:13:03 AM
this thread is too long but I saw an advert for an sp20 while I was on wemineltc.  I would buy one of them. So is there a group buy for the sp20.

Not yet AFAIK
Sp-20 could be interesting, but i already have more than 2.5 kw.

9013  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to pay for miner with Bitcoin on: September 13, 2014, 11:16:17 PM
As noted above, never send a payment from an exchange if you think that you might need a refund at a later time.  The person sending the refund will usually insist on sending coins back to the address they came from and the exchanges will not credit you for that payment.

On coinbase you can actually send btc back to one of the addresses from which your payment originated.
At least it used to; I haven't used it for payment since it took more than an hour for the first confirm, transaction was cancelled, and although I squared it later with bitmain, I decided not to use coinbase for payments any more (unless they will improve).

open a wallet it is free.  here is a link

https://blockchain.info/

https://blockchain.info/wallet

learn to use it.

make a long password.

screen shot the password.

take a photo of the screen

transfer .01 btc  to it from your coinbase account

practice moving it back and forth

overall, this is almost exactly what I did...
I did not get why you want to screen shot the password and then take photo of the screen...you lost me there
9015  Economy / Speculation / Re: TetraExchange. Bitcoin derivative approved. on: September 13, 2014, 11:03:38 PM
We will have to see.  This is an OTC (over the counter) exchange.  So it's mainly for large investors still.  The COIN ETF will be a much bigger deal.

but if it targets investors who would otherwise not buy, the expected result is up.

question is, does this actually make investors who do not buy bitcoin, buy this thing instead? And will it have a large effect?

i guess all we can do is wait and see.

The derivatives make bitcoin look like all other stuff out there.
WE will end up with a bunch of derivatives with a notional value vastly exceeding BTC value. The result is short term stability, but longer term INSTABILITY.
So, if and when financial system crashes (who knows when), BTC will be taken down as well.

what exactly you are showing here? price in Dec2013 was ~$800 on any major exchange.

Besides security, what performance or efficiency gains will I get from the cgminer update on my S3+ B8?  and Do I even need to update?

Also because I have the overclocked from the factory S3+ B8 do I need to plug in all 4 PCIe cables or am I OK still only plugging in two?  I plan on putting 3 S3s into 1 1200 watt PSU (Corsair AX1200i)

Thanks in Advance for your response!!
1. cgminer 4.6 has bugfixes for some security holes, however, in terms of performance gains, the jury is still out (see update to OP here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=750220.new#new, suffice to say it will reduce the load on your controller.
2. Running 3 S3 units at stock on a 1200 watt PSU will push it to the max. I personally would run only 2 on that.

Thanks.  Appreciate the advice.  Very comprehensive information!!

Since my 1200 watt PSU was able to easily handle 3 S1 Antminers overclocked to 200GH Im confident that it can handle 3 S3+ Antminers, that is unless 4 PCIe Connectors are required per miner.  Ill test when I get the units and report back.

answer is no on a 1200w axi plat corsair, the psu sense an overload (most likely & will power off itself with a red light) even with all 12 pcie's plugged into all 3 s3's. that's what i experienced as it may be different for you.

yes, it is pushing the psu to it's limits. i would rather power 2 with 4 pcies with a mild overclock. * try using psu on a computer & run corsair link & untick the OCP*

keep an eye out as it does heat up very near to the connectors & i find that corsair's pcie connectors melts easily from experience.

i tried powering 1 s3 with 2 different 1200w axi corsairs & it is working fine. (have few different psu brands & had spares so i'm powering them in various configs)

unrelated to the exact question, but EVGA1300 can run 3 S3 overclocked to 237.5.
9018  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: September 13, 2014, 04:13:46 PM
SP30 newbie here with a few questions.

1] I have a few SP30's running on 208V. My hashrates after 12 hours range from 4.27 to 4.38 TH/s. My intake temperatures range from 29C to 39C. Is this hashrate range as-expected for a 208V source and those intake temperatures?

2] My units came with 3 different firmware flavors: 2.3.16-Rushbi3, 2.3.20 and 2.3.26. What advantages, if any, are there in upgrading to 2.3.43? I am of the "don't fix what is not broken" camp, so unless there is some tangible advantage (such as increased hashrate, lower power draw, improved power supply learning algorithm, ...) I'll leave them be.

3] if a unit is 'bricked' by a firmware update, what is the procedure to restore it to working state?

4] I have the 'fan speed' and 'maximum voltage' set at their factory defaults of 80 and 0.75 respectively. Has anyone played around with these values that can report their findings?

5] on the ASIC-Stats page there are PSU lines such as this:

Code:
PSU-TOP[EMERSON1200]: 1392->1252w[1248 1244 1252] (lim=1250) 0c cooling:0/0x6000

Is is correct to assume that this PSU is providing 1252W DC while using 1392W from the wall?

Thanks in advance.

From my short experience (less than 10 days)
1. My unit is at 208V and is able to reach 4500Gh or close by (4450 Gh). Unit's speed seem to improve after 24 hr (I guess it 'learns').
5. 1392 seems to be a lot, it will probably learn to be at 1350-1360 after a few shutdowns/restarts.

additional: if there is no secondary pool indicated, unit will shutdown on a loss of connection to the primary pool.
9019  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 in three years on: September 13, 2014, 02:54:03 PM
Long term support goes up more than 500% every year.

31.12.2012     $12
31.12.2013     $60
31.12.2014    $300
31.12.2015  $1,500
31.12.2016  $7,500
31.12.2017 $37,500

So Draper is really conservative. :-)

something is wrong with your numbers
Dec31 2013 was ~$800, not $60
9020  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will bitcoin hit 252,000 USD? on: September 13, 2014, 02:35:53 PM
2 years ago people would never guess bitcoin would reach $1000

$252,000 is not impossible or even improbable, it will just take a few more years

yes, 16-17 more  Smiley
