9041  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: October 07, 2021, 03:15:26 AM
It's very important game for the balances of the group, both teams have a chance to qualify either first or second place but whoever lose the game will probably lose their chance. I don't think Norway is only rely on Haaland and Sørloth, they play an impressive team game and any player can score goals in this tactical game play. If Türkiye win this game they will have a big advantage because Norway haven't played with Netherlands yet.

Now there is confirmation that Håland will not be part of the Norwegian squad for the two matches this week. According to his manager, the thigh injury is not fully healed. BTW, his team is also busy in negotiating his move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City. Dortmund officials have said that they are willing to double his salary from the current €8 million to €15 million (but Man City will be offering a lot more probably). A few other important players will also miss the matches, including Alexander Sørloth, Kristoffer Ajer and Jonas Svensson.

This is exactly why I moved to freelancing. There are two options of making more money in the freelancing world, either you charge more and earn more if you can find someone to work with, or you end up getting another job on top of your current job and start working two jobs which will pay you significantly more.

This doesn't mean that you will be capable of working like that forever, eventually one day your job could be over but that doesn't change the fact that it is certainly giving you a lot more freedom to earn as much as you can, instead of what your boss may feel like you should earn. I work for one place now and have another that I sometimes do and sometimes don't depending on how much money I need, and that wasn't an option when I worked, there was a salary and there were increases yearly and that's it, I couldn't decide how much I earned, which is why freelancing beats working for someone in my mind.

I am someone who has been doing freelancing for well over a decade. But doing so is not easy in my country (India). Here, receiving payments from abroad is not 100% legal. As per the existing laws, in order to work for a foreign employer and to receive payments from abroad, you need to apply for half a dozen licenses (which is not practical given the red tape in India). Most of the freelancers usually ignore these restrictions. The majority were receiving payments through PayPal earlier. Then a few years ago the government noticed this and asked PayPal to close down it's operations in India. Because of this, the freelancers have shifted to Bitcoin (still the legality issue remains).
9043  Economy / Economics / Re: For every $269 in bitcoin, $4,672 of tax payer money is spent on: October 07, 2021, 02:55:04 AM
And of course, it makes total sense for the government to burn cheap energy for bitcoin and then import extra more expensive energy to meet citizens' needs.
I'm pretty sure each one of you would be thrilled to pay three-timer more on electricity in order for the government to subsidize miners.

It is not as simple as that. The geothermal powerplant was newly built for the mining farm. It was not an existing facility. And the national grid prices include the cost for transmission, as additional equipment is needed and transmission losses need to be taken in to account. IMO, the government might have thought that it makes sense to purchase electricity (which is readily available), rather than spending the amount to purchase Bitcoin from the open market. BTW, a lot of people in El Salvador were going ballistic when the exchange rates dipped to $41K. Where are they now?
9044  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: October 07, 2021, 02:45:14 AM
I guess IPL has taken over everything that's why we are having IPL discussion in Test Cricket thread.

Exactly it has taken over our mind Grin Look what it has done to everyone here we forgot there is a thread dedicated to T20 cricket. I am pretty much sure everyone knows about that thread but we are so much stuck in IPL that we have forgotten everything.

That is what is brand value. Please stop discussing about IPL on this thread.

Well.. hardly anyone cares about test cricket these days. In the recent times we had too many meaningless bilateral tours. Personally I don't care about test matches unless big three teams (+NZ) are playing each other. The quality of other test teams have gone down the drain. Anyway, the Ashes is around the corner and hopefully it can reignite some interest in this format of cricket. But poor form of the Australian players (including Steve Smith) is a concern for me. There is a good chance that this time the Ashes will be one sided.
9045  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: October 07, 2021, 02:35:23 AM
Today's match was another surprise, i thought RCB would win the match easily but SRH played really well to restrict RCB and end up on a positive note even thought they had the worst team this season.

Just three wins in 13 matches and half of the squad just there to make up the numbers. I was not surprised by the poor performance from the SRH. It is just unbelievable that a team which has players like Warner, Williamson, Rashid, Holder, Saha and Bhuvneshwar can perform so badly. Hopefully they will get a complete revamp in 2022 and get better. What they need in an urgent basis is a couple of players who can score runs in the middle order. Saha scored runs while opening the innings, but he failed when batting down the order.
9046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't miss this opportunity to buy and hold BNB on: October 06, 2021, 04:41:09 AM
Looking at the cryptocurrency market generally, it's natural to believe that BNB price should be seriously competing with Ethereum. How the BNB price skyrocketed from last year to attend an ATH would make us believe it will reach 2k dollars now. But woah, this isn't so.
With matic, tron and other popular coins appreciating recently, i think BNB have lost its chance of reaching the 1k dollars many are hoping, soon.

LOL.. you serious? If the price gets to 2K, then BNB will be having a market cap of $350 billion. Do you really believe that BNB is worth that much? As of now, it is still primarily used as an exchange token. The Binance Smart Chain (BSC) is witnessing growing usage, but it will take some time before BSC is able to compete directly with ERC-20. I am not saying that BNB will never reach that level in the future. But right now, with the current userbase, it is definitely not worth $350b. Coinbase is valued at $50.6 billion. So why BNB should be having a higher valuation?
9047  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dead Coins on: October 06, 2021, 04:28:37 AM
I'm sure everyone here still keeps dead coins in their wallets to this day because we really can't do more with dead coins in our wallets, even though there is a dex platform for coin issues, but if we look at the high fees on ethereum then it will only be a waste to sell the coins and it is better to leave the coins as they are because they will never get any development from the coin owner.

Most of the coins need their own wallets. So in case a coin is dead, then the user will most probably uninstall the wallet from his laptop or mobile phone. What is the point in keeping dozens of wallets in laptop? Here I am talking about coins, and not about tokens. Tokens can be easily stored in ERC-20 wallets and there is no need to create a separate wallet everytime when you receive a different token. Even I had dozens of altcoins in my possession a few years back. I used to store most of them in exchange wallets. Only for one or two I had desktop wallets.
9048  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation and protecting you wealth on: October 06, 2021, 04:18:18 AM
Good, to fight inflation of course, the only investment we can do, if we invest in low-risk types such as gold or property, of course this is not safe, the best thing is to dare to take risks by investing in high-risk types such as cryptocurrencies.

Gold is a low risk asset, but the same can't be said about property. During the recession of 2008-09, the property prices in premium locations went down by 50% or more. Even gold dived by almost 50% after the peak of 2012. In a way, the corrections we have with cryptocurrency (2014-15, 2018-19) are also of a similar magnitude. The only difference is that the correction for gold and property is very gradual, and at the most we may have a 3%-4% swing per day (even that much is very rare), while in case of cryptocurrency it is not that rare to get a 20% swing in one day.
9049  Economy / Economics / Re: US with problems to raise the debt ceiling... again on: October 06, 2021, 04:08:59 AM
That could be to do with the multiple parties, as you point out. If there are 20 different parties, and you find that the one you are in is making you vote for or against things you don't agree with, then surely you can just up and leave and join one of the multiple other parties which are more closely aligned with your views. In the US that can't happen. If you are not part of the Democratic or Republican party, then realistically you have almost no chance of being elected. If you disagree with the party leadership on an issue, then your only option is to fight against them, since you can't leave the party without "defecting" to the complete opposite side.

A two party system has its own advantages and disadvantages. I would still say that multi-party democracy is much worse. On paper, they claim that it takes everyone in to account and is the most representative system. But look at countries like Israel and Germany. They have a proportional system in place and this means that it is extremely difficult for a single party to get outright majority (unlike those countries with the FPTP system). And as a result they have a ruling coalition comprised of extreme-right, right, center, left and extreme-left in Israel. I would be surprised if this coalition survives for even a single year.

But as you suggested, there is a way to challenge the two party system. The best example is Donald Trump winning the GOP primaries in 2016. He was a complete outsider and he defeated the establishment wing of the GOP.
9050  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: October 06, 2021, 03:56:16 AM
My body is my choice. For athletes, their body is the main asset, so this principle becomes even more important. It is their personal choice to make the vaccine or not, I am sure that many will refuse to travel to the World Cup if this requirement is made mandatory. Will the World Cup be any better from that? I strongly doubt and in the future, it may generally fade into the background like in hockey (especially if the Super League is created).

First of all you need to travel to Qatar in order to attend the world cup. If the Qatari government prohibits the unvaccinated from traveling to that country, how you are supposed to attend the world cup? You may be having a ticket with you, but still the government can ban you from entering the country. So in a way, it is not up to FIFA to decide these things. And given how strict the middle-eastern nations are on vaccination, I am not expecting any relaxation on this regard from Qatar. Those who are not vaccinated will not be allowed in to the stadiums or in the national contingents. As simple as that.
9051  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant on: October 06, 2021, 03:46:33 AM
Hopefully, no last minute cancellation here because a lot are expecting to see this fight inside the ring. Being Canelo as the heavy favorite, this will be a good challenge for Caleb. Can he pull an upset just like Usyk? Seems not likely. But the fight will speak for itself. So let's see...

After so much bad blood between the boxers, I don't think that there is a possibility of last minute cancellation. And I have seen posts comparing Canelo to Anthony Joshua earlier as well, in this thread. You can compare Caleb with Usyk (still I would say that Usyk is a more classy athlete), but I don't think that it is logical to compare an all time great like Canelo with a overhyped motormouth like AJ. Given the recent thrash talk from the part of Caleb, actually it will suit more if you compare Caleb with AJ.
9052  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin slumps as China bans all cryptocurrency transactions on: October 06, 2021, 03:35:28 AM
I don't see any current news that influenced bitcoin price to surge high, maybe its more of a volatility thing. Let's just say after those minor dumps caused by the communist party of China, its time now for bitcoin to reach another new ATH. We are fastly heading into the last month of the year and if history repeats itself, we might witness bullish season any moment from now.

However, China might be desperate for sure seeing bitcoin more bullish now after the FUD. It's just means that bitcoin is no longer affected with whatever the communist government of China plans to do.

There is no price surge as such. What is happening is that the prices are recovering after FUD from China (as happened multiple times before). Anyway, the prices should go up if no other issue is there. It is very simple - the supply is limited and the number of users go up by anywhere from 2% to 5% each month. So naturally it creates an increase in demand and the mined output is not enough to make up for this. The prices have increased by 25% or so during the last couple of weeks, and for me a new ATH looks possible in the horizon.
9053  Economy / Economics / Re: E-Naira: CBN to launches Nigeria’s digital currency on: October 06, 2021, 03:21:09 AM
This comes from a complete lack of historical understanding of how currency gets adopted, gold and silver became the mains forms of money for thousands of years not because someone imposed them to the population, they did do because the population realized they were the best forms of money they had available, however the government then monopolized the minting process and then scammed people wit fiat currencies, however we are once again seeing the same process taking place now, and people will choose what benefits them and not the government and they will keep using bitcoin even if they ban it if they obtain benefits out of it.

Until the early 20th century, we actually had the gold standard (silver standard in some of the smaller countries). So the usage of gold/silver continued all the way up to that. This was removed in mid-20th century, as the governments started complaining about deflation. But what actually happened is that it enabled the governments to print unlimited amount of money, without any control and this resulted in massive inflation. And with every passing year, this issue seems to be getting worse.
9054  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: October 06, 2021, 03:02:47 AM
BCCI is only after the money. If IPL is giving them so much why will they interfere with it and organize WIPL? Already they have suffered financially due to the pandemic situation. I do not think they will organize the WIPL anytime soon. They will wait and until the revenue drops from IPL, which I do not think will be happening anytime soon.

In around 3 weeks from now, they are about to auction two more teams for the IPL (25th October). This time, the auction amount is predicted to set new records. For two teams, the conservative prediction is a combined $1 to $1.2 billion, but given the extreme competition for getting a franchise, I won't be surprised if the BCCI ends up with more than $2 billion in their pocket. That should make up for any losses that they suffered due to COVID. Maybe they will think about the WIPL sometime after that.
9055  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: October 06, 2021, 02:50:14 AM
What happened to the middle order of RR, it collapsed completely. Are they dependent on Sanju Samson only there are a few good batsmen down the order? With a score of just 90 runs, it was a completely one-sided match. You can not defend such a low score. When was that this guy Rahul Tewatia batted good, was it the last IPL?

They purchased Chris Morris for $2.3 million, and he can't even find a place in the playing XI nowadays. Apart from the top order, none of their batsmen are in form (ironically that is the case with most of the other franchises - most of them have brittle middle order these days). Apart from Morris, Ryan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Glenn Phillips and David Miller have failed to score runs for RR. Anyway, even before the tournament I expected them to be overdependent on Sanju Samson, and they haven't been really able to shrug off that perception.
9056  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Newbies are safer with top altcoins on: October 05, 2021, 04:10:19 AM
LOL... this thread was posted one and half years ago. And the price movements since then doesn't justify the argument put forward by the OP. Some of the coins outside the top-10, such as Dogecoin has given astounding profits to those who invested in them. On the other hand, the returns from top coins have been more modest. In some cases like BCH and LTC, the altcoins have returned a lower profit when compared to Bitcoin. So I would not blindly recommend "top" altcoins. Noobs can invest in any altcoin, as long as they have made a proper study on that coin.
9057  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Dogecoin Is Crypto's Most Dangerous Joke on: October 05, 2021, 04:00:08 AM
I read the article, and I agree, I've read several posts back then here in the Altcoin Discussion board all about how Dogecoin was actually made just to become a meme, it was really intended to be a meme, and I thought that it only exists just for the laughs, I even introduced cryptocurrency to my friends using Dogecoin, since they love memes, I am sure that they'll try to actually try investing in it, later on, I never expected Dogecoin to go all the way to the moon, apparently, Elon Musk and several people were behind the skyrocket value of Doge, and my friends were still holding it, which means they gained a crazy profit after holding it for a while, Dogecoin really isn't a laughing matter or a meme anymore.

Yeah.. Dogecoin prices have went to the moon.. but that doesn't take away the fact that it is still a meme coin. The prices have fallen recently, as the euphoria created by overhyping from some of the celebrities is waning. In order to stay competitive, it needs to move away from its core function as a memecoin and find more acceptability as a mode of payment or as a speculative investment. It is not going to be easy, as there are far better coins in circulation for these purposes, with much advanced technology and algorithm.
9058  Economy / Economics / Re: For every $269 in bitcoin, $4,672 of tax payer money is spent on: October 05, 2021, 03:50:07 AM
Several inaccuracies with the calculation. First the author didn't took in to account the pending payments. Including that, the total value of Bitcoin mined is more than $500. And secondly, he calculated the energy cost using the pricing formula for the national grid. That is wrong, because geothermal energy is being used for mining and the cost of generation is much lower. Then he calculated the amount of electricity consumed while assuming that the mining equipment ran non-stop for 4 days (which was not the case, as they are still testing the power supply and mining rigs).
9059  Economy / Economics / Re: George Soros and Bezos have paid almost zero taxes on: October 05, 2021, 03:40:27 AM
The problem on an "unrealized profit" is the fact that it is unrealized as of that moment, which means that it can't be taxed properly. Normally if you are apple and you sell iphone and make a profit from it, that is income and that could be taxed, if the stock of apple goes up because they sold a lot of iphones and you do not sell your stock then you do not get taxed the same way.

This needs to change, there is basically close to zero difference the two, selling an orange gets taxed but owning the increase valued orange farm doesn't get taxed properly. If you change that and make sure that everyone pays even on unrealized profits then it will be a lot easier for the whole nation overnight.

This is why I am of the opinion that the current system of taxation unfairly targets the middle class. There are several loopholes for the rich, where they can evade or avoid taxes. We don't exactly need a wealth tax. But we need a system that eliminates the loopholes that are being used by the rich, such as charity and business losses. Bill Gates along caused a $20 billion loss to the US treasury, when he transferred his shares to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The justification being given is that the BMGF is a charity organization, mostly active in Africa and Asia. But even then, the question arises. Why should the US tax payer suffer for Bill Gates doing his charity work in Africa? And then Bill Gates got divorce from his wife, just to reduce the tax bill even further. He is one of the biggest tax frauds I have ever seen in my life.
9060  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: October 05, 2021, 03:30:05 AM
I will be surprised to see Turkey winning vs Norway even without Haaland in honestly. They showed one of their worst performance this year.. Meanwhile Turkey odds are better @2 than Norway @3.5! we will see what they can do!

If Håland is injured, then it will get tough for Norway. They are very heavily dependent on him. And for Turkey, let's not forget their good performances over the last few years, although their recent form is not good. I would say without Håland, Turkey would be the solid favorites against Norway. Another important factor to remember here is that the match will take place at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in Istanbul, and Turkey will be having the home advantage. Now I don't know whether the odds are justified or not. Turkey at 2.00? Not enough to compel me to make a bet in their favor.
