Je profite de ce topic pour rappeler que les brain wallet sont très largement insecure comparé à une clé privée/mnemonic phrase générée par bitcoin core par exemple.
L'entropie générée est beaucoup plus faible sur un brain wallet et si vous dessinez un pattern dont vous arrivez à vous rappeler, les chances sont fortes que vous ne serez pas le seul à choisir ce pattern.
Il est effectivement déconseillé de stocker sur la durée de gros montants dans des brain wallets mais si l'on doit voyager sans rien garder sur soi ou si l'on veut transférer de manière discrète des fonds, le brain wallet reste la solution la plus adaptée IMO. Pour pallier au manque d'entropie des motifs et à une attaque au "dictionnaire" des motifs courants, on peut créer plusieurs motifs qu'on superpose ensuite. Pour les brain wallets texte on utilise généralement un salt, une petite chaîne de caractère aléatoire qu'on mémorise en plus ou qu'on stocke séparément, on peut donc de la même manière se créer un salt dans un coin du motif, même si ça déprécie beaucoup l'ergonomie et l'utilité du concept. Je rajouterai qu'il n'est pas non plus interdit de mixer les 2 types de brain wallets pour obtenir une clé plus robuste, on génère une clé dans le brain wallet graphique et on se sert de cette clé privée ou adresse ou clé publique comme salt dans un brain wallet texte. |

Il fallait y penser mais l'idée est geniale. Les clés privées sont une suite de 256bits. 256bits c'est 32 octets, ou encore 16 mots/multiplets de 16bits(double-octets) Donc une matrice de bits de 16x16 in fine Cette page utilisable hors-ligne, permet de dessiner dans une matrice 16x16 le motif de son choix pour obtenir de fait une clé de 256bits. La page calcule ensuite la clé publique et l'adresse correspondante. Welcome To Video: How the website worked
Welcome to Video (WTV) was a child pornography website that operated out of South Korea and allowed users to buy content with Bitcoin or to upload their own. Upon signing up for the site, users received a unique Bitcoin address where they could send funds to buy content to view.
When law enforcement shut down the site, they seized over 8 terabytes of child pornography, making it one of the largest siezures of its kind. The site had 1.3 million Bitcoin addresses registered. Between 2015 and 2018, the site received nearly $353,000 worth of Bitcoin across thousands of individual transactions.

Cybercrime transcends national borders. Welcome to Video had a global customer and contributor base requiring cross-border collaboration among law enforcement agencies across the world. IRS-Criminal Investigations (IRS-CI), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and other agencies used Chainalysis software to analyze blockchain transactions and map out contributors and users of the site. This enabled them to disseminate the blockchain evidence to their partners in the United Kingdom, South Korea, Germany, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Czech Republic, Canada, Ireland, Spain, Brazil and Australia, and ultimately make arrests.
With the site’s listed Bitcoin address, IRS-CI and HSI used Chainalysis Reactor, our investigations product, to analyze transaction activity and build a graph showing the flow of funds in and out of the WTV address.  Here we see that WTV received funds from several different exchanges. This information allowed IRS-CI to contact exchanges for more information on the addresses sending money to WTV. Because exchanges typically perform Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, many were able to provide copies of identification, addresses, and other relevant transactions associated with those accounts. While in many cases the information supplied by the exchanges was enough to identify WTV users, in other cases IRS-CI was able to combine the account information with open source intelligence and standard investigative techniques to identify users.
Chainalysis tools then augmented the work done by IRS-CI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to break down regionally-specific information. This both helped law enforcement teams around the world make arrests related to WTV, and understand how blockchain evidence can be used to take down sites like WTV more generally.

I think it's Jaxx who's to blame if they don't use the term "sweep" instead of "import" and when the function is called "import" on Jaxx (even if they want to say sweep) we have to refer to the button "import" (like step 5 in the guide), so that users will find it.
However, the discussion is very much pointless from here on, because of that I recommend using Electrum where users can decide wether they sweep or import.

Well, you can't compare those two things, can you? Bitcoin paper wallets are used to store coins safely or the case like mentioned above to give it as a gift to other people (there are various more reasons). A Bitcoin collectible isn't really meant to serve as a wallet.  There might be loadable coins (or similar) but you have to peel them if you send the money again and once you have peeled them, their worth is not only reduced including the amount of BTC that was stored on it but also reduced in value as a collectible. It's always sad to peel a loaded coin.  On the contrary, paper wallets can be easily created multiple times. So, I won't compare Bitcoin collectibles and Bitcoin paper wallets. In Germany we would say "you compare apples with pears". (not pineapples) I would add, with a paper wallet you can personalize your gift and DIY it. It's a matter of taste, and I know many people prefer offering a more "physical" gift but you can offer your paper wallet with(in) something else like a book for example... |
