I will recommand Linux OS for running node, easy, better, secure and faster then windows you can work on both commandline and GUI interface
I see that Linux is the most preferred OS to run a full node, but what distro would that be? The most secure and easy to use, of course. I'm looking into Tails or Ubuntu, but I don't know if those distros are good for the task. The most popular ones are Ubuntu or Debian. You shouldn't use Tails since Tails is for live CDs/USBs and it does not keep persistent data.

Do you have a hardware error? Run some hardware diagnostics. Bitcoin core usually is a good indicator of failing hardware.

The only step I have not followed is connecting through other nodes. I would prefer to avoid this if possible. I did just go into Bitcoin preferences since updating ISP and toggled off the "Connect through SOCKS5 using Port 8333." Since this change I now have gone from Number of connections In: 1/Out: 0 to In: 0/ Out: 8. I am not going to download anything if I have no connections in, correct?
No. It is ok if there are no connections in. As long as you have connections. You now have 8 connections total, which is more than 1. Everything is fine now and it should be syncing.

It was probably Theymos who was fixing a bug involving invalid UTF characters such required that the database tables be locked which probably caused all of the weird bugs today - I revised all of the database's collation rules to settings which should work as intended. This required locking tables for extended periods of time, which is what caused the other weirdness over the last few hours.

I have acquired my own internet service. My apartment complex router seemed to be blocking the blockchain download. The only problem is I have been running Bitcoin all day on my new ISP and there is no synching occurring. I am using OS X 10.10 with 12 GB of memory. I have 879GB of storage available. There is no firewall on my computer and no ports are blocked on my router.
Would someone please give me some help? I am at a loss to explain why the download is still not synching since my change in ISP. Do I need to uninstall Bitcoin and reinstall? I am still trying to complete a transaction and need to keep my current keys. Please give me any idea on how to solve this problem.
Have you checked everything that I asked you to check earlier in the thread?

Bitcoin is just like money so you can spend it. You can buy and sell things and even get discounts on things if you pay with Bitcoin. If you want to know more about the inner workings about Bitcoin, a good place to start is the Bitcoin whitepaper which you can find at https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

You don't just double click on that file, it will open up as a huge text file. Instead, you need to use several terminal commands. Open up the terminal, and navigate to the directory that contains the file type chmod +x VeriCoin_1.6.2_64bit.run Then type ./VeriCoin_1.6.2_64bit.run This will run the script and it should install everything.

I dont really know if the memonic i have is to my old wallet (i think so) but i have my wallet JSOn file on dropbox. Will that help me? if so, how do i do?
Thank you for your answers!
The wallet json will be very useful. It is a backup of your wallet. Although if it is encrypted, your screwed. Create a new blockchain.info wallet account. You aren't getting your old one back. The go to the import/export tab. Click "I Understand" then go to import wallet. Copy and paste the json text into the box and click Import Wallet. You should now be able to spend the Bitcoin from that wallet in this new account.

What do you mean? I just came to the site with my identifier not my password. or did i do it wrong? Do you have the mnemonic they gave you when you created the account?

When you created the blockchain.info wallet, you should have gotten a mnemonic and written it down. If you still have it, then go to their website and when you get to the login page, click on the "recover wallet" button on the right side. Then enter the mnemonic in the box for it and it will decrypt your password and give it to you in plain text.

Hi, all.
I know little to nothing about bitcoin, but I recently had to use it & very stupidly I downloaded Bitcoin Core & had funds sent to my address before realizing that it takes ages to download the whole blockchain. It took 10 days to download & then it was finally ready. I was very annoyed at this point so as soon as I had emptied my wallet I deleted the app (I do realize that was a dumb move). Now, over 24 hours later, nothing has been transfered. I reinstalled the damned app & this is what I see.
Right click on one of the transactions in the list and select Copy Transaction ID. Then go to a block explorer such as blocktrail.com or blockchain.info and paste what you copied into the search bar and search for it. It should come up with the transaction. You will be able to see there whether the transaction has confirmed or not. It looks like you are almost done syncing so those transactions should show up as either sent or confirmed soon. Do I seriously need to download the whole blockchain again just to get these two tiny transactions through?
With Bitcoin Core, yes. However, there are other wallets that you will probably like better. Those are SPV wallets which do not need the entire blockchain and instead get only the stuff they need from full nodes running Bitcoin Core. I would recommend you use electrum.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I would guess that that guy likes Bitcoin and is probably happy with exposing more people to it and helping them learn about.
Yes, it's a good deal to stay out of the prison. But for Bitcoin, this is not such a good deal. It's not like he will be teaching masses how to use Bitcoin. Instead, he will be teaching the law enforcement how to nail the people that are using Bitcoin. Well at least more people, especially law enforcement, will be exposed to Bitcoin and maybe they might even see Bitcoin for what it is and how it is actually useful and not only used for criminal activity. And with that knowledge they won't (hopefully) be arresting regular Bitcoiners, just the people (e.g. Mark Karpeles) who deserve it for scamming. Another wierd story coming from the states. I cannot believe that they are charging people who sell couple of coins on localbitcoins while in the other side their banksters are doing whatever they want, stealing from people and getting help and bail outs!
Anti Money Laundering laws are a bitch.

What is actually happening is that that transaction is spending an unconfirmed transaction. A transaction can only become confirmed once the transactions before it are also confirmed. Your transaction (9cd909bb8246dd7307b354279b1212f62b2780dfd901d64cea9f6db75f88da8f) is uncofirmed due to a transaction it is getting inputs from (32956d6013d95928ee862e755f144f2676f42c1ee5edba0405c2e4c99d47e5e8) is also unconfirmed because the transaction that that one gets an input from (6ff132bd00c6a0ab6898b25d04073f6414d8c325a4df1a6f6771bbc7d9dbe6f3) is also unconfirmed. The reason that last one is unconfirmed is because it has a tiny tiny fee of 0.00000226.
This is not normal and most wallets do not let you spend unconfirmed transactions. To fix this, don't send transactions that have unconfirmed inputs.
But, what would you say about this ? I'm not saying that is always the case, just that in this case, even though there is enough of a fee, the transaction remains unconfirmed due to unconfirmed transactions that it is spending from. This transaction is quite large. It is 3 Kb, much larger than a normal transaction. The fee is not enough. Last time I checked, the recommended fee is 0.0001/Kb, so the fee for this transaction should be 0.0004 (it is greater than 3 kb so should be paying fee for 4 kb), which is probably why it is being delayed. That one is trying to spend from an unconfirmed transaction for the CPFP. Very few miners have actually implemented CPFP so that transaction remains unconfirmed until either the previous transaction becomes confirmed or a miner that supports CPFP (Eligius) picks up the transaction and includes both of them in a block.
