9102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: International Money Transfer on: May 31, 2017, 03:07:16 AM
it's definitely cheaper, in this regard, bitcoin has a big edge on international transfer, just take at look at this example

in my case with deutesche bank i need to pay 25 euro to transfer money abroad, and this apply to any sum, with bitcoin you will never pay a fee that big to send money to soemone else on another country

another good think bitcoin is good at is the conversion, when you convert usd with euro and receive money in your bank account they take 3.5% like paypal, with bitcoin you will never lose this percentage

Yes but using Bitcoin for international is still highly inefficient. You have to buy Bitcoin from the exchange or sell them to an exchange. Then from the exchange you have to do a transfer to your bank account. That is not really solving anything.
9103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Was it due to Ransomware? on: May 31, 2017, 03:02:35 AM
I think that ransomware attacks are just a drop in the ocean of bitcoin; the recent attacks have little to nothing to do with the price boost we experienced recently.
I would be more prone to consider the growing interest into the crypto currencies of more people from all around the world as the main cause of the spike we witnessed.

I agree. But what kind of "growing interest" is there in cryptocurrencies? Real interest for utility and usage that will benefit ordinary people like us or interest in making a lot of money, doing speculation and getting rich quick?
9104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: If you have now 500$ for invest? Where you invest? on: May 31, 2017, 02:39:48 AM
Invest in ICO's, look for ones with revolutionary ideas. Things like ETH, bitcoin etc have already pumped so while they may go higher in the next 1-2 years they won't go up 100x or 1000x like some of the promising ICO's will. For me in particular I like Aragon because they will revolutionize how companies operate in this globalized world.

The people who invested in the recent ICOs were lucky because the market sentiment is very positive. But what if by the end of the year we are back to a bear market? Will ICOs be still a good idea to invest in?
I never recommend investing ICOs. Because it will be harder for any beginner to analyse the potential of new projects. Instead of risking to new projects, I'm always suggesting to go with well-known investment opportunities like bitcoins.

Maybe ICOs may get comparatively more profits, but a new investors should not take big risk. Based on this investment priciples, I'm always suggesting investing with bitcoin kind of highly reputed opportunities. Because making lesser profit will be nice rather than struggling with big losses.

Ok, I agree in general. Now let me ask you for the benefit of the new would be investors here reading this thread. What highly reputed opportunities should we all invest in? Can you name any?
In my above post itself I have answered your question (I highlight it this time). By not recommending ICOs, it does not mean I have some other opportunities where we can make big profits. I meant ICOs are not recommended for the people who are not capable of finding potential altcoin projects.

If you are an ICO hunter, could you share what are your ROI with your last 10 ICO investments. I am sure 5 out of 10 ICOs are coming into market just to suck people's money. They simply pump prices to make their investors happy but they totally do forget about their road map.

Hey Supercrypt. Care to answer my question?
This is not a right way to enforce a reply imho. You might have sent me a PM.

If they are highly reputed opportunities then why do we have to talk about them in PM? Should the public not know these opportunities so that they avoid investing in the riskier altcoins and ICO?
9105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Barry Silbert segwit agreement with >80% miner agreement. on: May 31, 2017, 02:31:03 AM

Here is an interesting talk by Simon Dixon on the BitcoinMeister youtube channel. He does a good job of highlighting what is most important in this scaling debate.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNGzhWODF2s&t=3761

I called it! Simon Dixon said "If Segwit was not pitched as a scaling solution, we would have had it ages ago."

The question now is why did Core pitch it as a scaling solution?
9106  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will BTC be at $5,000? on: May 31, 2017, 02:22:07 AM
The people in this forum might be in denial that we are indeed in a bubble. That explains why they will not answer to some of my questions. It is really hard to get a real discussion here.

If you want to know what a real bubble is, then look into Ethereum. Bitcoin's price was overbought, but not to the extent of it being a bubble. Bitcoin has been experiencing a massive amount of growth from all over the world, and that's all legit growth. Also take into consideration that there has been a burst of good news, all in a short period of time, wich has lead to the price being overbought by panic buyers and speculators/gamblers. Overbought is not the same as bubble. Wink

I want to believe you. But there are no facts and numbers backing up the claim that "legit growth" really is happening in Bitcoin. Everyone is saying "it's Japan!" but they do not have the facts as well. So where is this legit growth coming from? The dark markets? That is more believable than the "it's Japan!" everyone keeps shouting about.
9107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese exchange mocks bitcoin by comparing to Nokia! Goes ethereum on: May 31, 2017, 02:16:39 AM
The worse thing is they have listed the chain that has many scams incorporated in the platform. Bitcoin will still prevail after all the ordeals it and this community has gone through.
9108  Economy / Speculation / Re: If China opens BTC withdrawals - would that mean a pump or a dump? on: May 30, 2017, 05:01:06 AM
I think it is very probable that BTC withdrawals will be open on Chinese exchanges soon. Huobi just added ETH for trading and enabled ETH withdrawals ( https://twitter.com/huobicom/status/868442008402014208, http://www.newsbtc.com/2017/05/28/huobi-first-big-three-chinese-exchange-enable-ethereum-trading/). It would not make much sense to enable ETH withdrawals but not BTC withdrawals. Also Huobi most probably would not make this change alone.
If my speculation is right - what would it mean? A pump or a dump?

No ETH/BTC only ETH/CNY? Then I believe Ethereum will pump as long as Bitcoin withdrawals are not enabled in their exchange. The most likely scenario for the Chinese traders would sell BTC for CNY then buy ETH through ETH/CNY, send ETH to foreign exchanges then buy BTC through ETH/BTC. This will further pump Ethereum and it might dump Bitcoin.
9109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: International Money Transfer on: May 30, 2017, 04:44:33 AM
Bitcoin transaction fees are related to how large your transactions are.

Bitcoin might still be a cheaper choice to send international money transfers but the fees are getting larger and larger. Blame politics, human nature for greed and control or pride.

I fee that now Bitcoins are no more so attractive to send or received money but it is good only for investment purpose. Because I send money through bank to my home country without any additional charges and if I do a transaction in business hours then the transaction will be done less than one hour time. But nowadays even after paying highest fee sometimes, we may need to wait for few hours to get the transactions to confirm on blockchain network. I consider bitcoins are good only for investment purpose.

Then maybe you are not using it the right way? Having Bitcoins as an investment is ok, but using it to buy drugs in the dark market or using it to launder money or help a friend evade taxes will always be perfect use cases for Bitcoin. But sending $5 worth of Bitcoin to a friend as a "tip" is stupid. Send him the real $5 instead.

9110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Was it due to Ransomware? on: May 30, 2017, 03:31:27 AM
Another thing to look into is the emergence of the new ICOs this year. How much Bitcoins have they raised this year? Would it reach $100m? I believe it is outside money that funded those ICOs through the use of Bitcoin.
9111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: If you have now 500$ for invest? Where you invest? on: May 30, 2017, 03:25:51 AM
Hey Supercrypt. Care to answer my question? I know many people, besides myself, wants to know what Bitcoin investments are good instead of the riskier ICO.
9112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Barry Silbert segwit agreement with >80% miner agreement. on: May 30, 2017, 03:21:03 AM
Well, I hope you all have fun with your Bitcoin fork. I'll be selling my Barrycoins, TYVM

Re-centralisation for the win, lol

I have the same thoughts here and the UASF will start on August 1. I believe the price will be very volatile and with a tendency to go down. I will buy back if everything has calmed down.
9113  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will BTC be at $5,000? on: May 30, 2017, 03:13:18 AM
Personally I don't think so we're going to see $5,000  Bitcoin anytime soon because currently were in a Bubble and as we have so the correction comes really quickly. Bitcoin has the ability to go up a lot in a short period of time but also goes down a lot in a similar period of time. Everything is completely unpredictable.

I would say though if a Fiat currency collapse or a stock market crash occurs, we could see bitcoin rise in value like crazy.

That is another good point. The people in this forum might be in denial that we are indeed in a bubble. That explains why they will not answer to some of my questions. It is really hard to get a real discussion here.
9114  Economy / Speculation / Re: kwukduck the hits, or a walk down the memory lane on: May 29, 2017, 02:26:15 AM
Kwukduck is trolling everyone here - he acts like an ultra bear, while in reality he is ultra bullish. In fact, this dude is riding the waves and increasing his stash whilst making fun of others (mostly newbies). In most cases it's annoying to read through all his trollish garbage, but you have to look through all that.

Yes I noticed this too. That is why I stopped trolling him because I have realized that I was trolling the troller and he was laughing it me for laughing at me. It is like making fun of a schizophrenic.

Quote
In some cases, and that's mostly scaling related, he does have a point -> we need to scale as soon as possible. We need to break through the firm grip that miners have in current circumstances, and force through a fork ourself in form of a user activated soft fork (also known as UASF).

If he is for the UASF then I respect him more now than I did before. Can you post the link where he expresses his support for the UASF?

9116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Was it due to Ransomware? on: May 29, 2017, 02:15:41 AM
There are some idiotic replies here that clearly have not looked into the subject closely. Before we can answer what OP is asking we should find out how much the victims paid in total. There was some news posted in some site that the hackers only got $50,000. If that is not true then the value could be higher but not high enough to reach $1m I believe.

Is that big enough to move the price down?

9118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Barry Silbert segwit agreement with >80% miner agreement. on: May 29, 2017, 02:02:20 AM
That did not really answer the question. I was asking if Core 0.13.1 would have been good as a general "upgrade" rather than a scaling solution.
My bad, even though I quoted it, I think misread it as "would it still have been". I think not only was it marketed wrong, the idea was wrong, and a lot of the resentment comes from the fact that segwit is forced on people (even if you don't want it, you're stuck with it if you want to use a version of Core that's more efficient than the older versions and contains bug-fixes). If you want Core, your only 2 options are something that Core knows is shit or forced segwit. Undecided

But was it not always the situation since the past releases? What has changed now and why is there a portion of the community afraid to get Segwit activated?

I ask you personally, without the politics, just the technicals. Do you think Core 0.13.1 is a good version of Bitcoin?
9119  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will BTC be at $5,000? on: May 29, 2017, 01:55:59 AM
We can't predict the specific time if we base it in an actual probability of todays bitcoin's growing body of price impact to the market of digital currency. All I know now is bitcoin market demand is getting stronger and you can't control it eventually, because if it happens that current situation of bitcoin next year is much better than today; it's really possible that pirce of $5000 can be achieved after 1 year of price movement.

Its really really hard to predict when bitcoin will reach 5000$. Even one cant predict what will happen tomorrow with bitcoin prices.Yesterday bitcoin was going smoothly up and today we have seen big dump and prices continuously moving today. Now will this trend of downward movement continues tomorrow as well or we shall see price rise , no one cant predict and that's the beauty of bitcoins

Nobody can answer that. Bitcoin has risen over the entire time of its existence, with only temporary backslides. Keep buying little by little until you need the money then cash out little by little as you need it.

That is very good advice, but is it not what everyone is already doing now? Not only now in fact but all these years since Bitcoin became very popular especially in Asian countries.

Do you think trying to hold your Bitcoins is good for its economy? I do not believe it will because there will be a lack of the currency to go around.

No, icos are risk investment, we can lose much money investing in icos, much better to hold bitcoins, it's safe compared to other schemes. Bitcoin everyone in crypto world knows what is and its strenght was already prooved.
Ico is a good idea only if you have extra money to try, but only what you are afford to lose, like in gambling.

That is the most obvious choice of course. But that does not mean it is bad to invest in ICO if you know what you are doing. It is like gambling in dice sites. Gambling and ICO investing both have risks. But why is one encouraged and the other is not?
