9141  Economy / Economics / Re: Should we be scared of zero reserve banking? on: September 10, 2020, 02:53:15 PM
From the position of a bank client, I must say that I have very little or almost no trust in banks - especially when I know what kind of scandals they have found themselves only in the past ten years. I must also say that I do not like that as a long-term client of the bank I have to go to the bank from time to time to prove that I am not a person who has anything to do with terrorism or money laundering. Therefore, I will soon close all my bank accounts, except for one that I need and for which no one has yet asked me to justify its existence.

Regarding zero reserve banking, this is related to USA banks and I think it’s a stupid idea that creates even more mistrust among bank users. I can't say if such a system is already in place somewhere in the world, but it is possible that some other countries will copy it in the future.

Money in banks, crypto on exchanges, stocks on the stock market - you wake up one morning and everything is gone except Bitcoin in your well-protected wallet Wink
9142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers Are Trying To Break Into This Bitcoin Wallet Holding $690 Million on: September 10, 2020, 02:27:25 PM
Those wallet files are being faked to display a large sum of BTC.

And they say it's nothing complicated (I mean the procedure) so obviously someone played around a bit and made a story out of nothing. And even if the wallet is real, any slightly more complicated password makes it virtually impenetrable for today's computers. But if some hackers really think there's something there, let them just play with that crypto wallet - they'll have less time for some other things, like hacking a crypto exchanges or distributing crypto malware.

"It's possible to doctor a Bitcoin wallet.dat file to make it seem like it contains a high balance," said the person who runs Wallet Recovery Services, a service that decrypts wallets with lost passwords for a fee, who goes by Dave Bitcoin. "The wallet file contains pairs of public key & encrypted private key of the addresses it controls. So one could modify the file in a binary editor and change the public key of one of the address pairs to that of a high value BTC address."
9143  Other / Meta / Re: EXPRESS THOUGHTS ABOUT B&H AND RANK AND MERIT SYSTEM on: September 10, 2020, 10:23:01 AM
Personally, I think that the B&H board is one of the very important parts of the forum, and where every beginner should get some basic guidelines on how the forum works, but also on how to start journey in the crypto world. There has already been discussion that some topics may not belong there, but although various scam projects can be moved to the appropriate board, topics like internet security actually have no alternative but to be moved to off-topic which sometimes happens.

The right balance needs to be found here, and an additional sub-board on internet security has already been proposed - and it would be really good to have it, because someone who is bad about IT/online security is at high risk of falling victim to various crypto scams.

I will edit post asap, thanks for pointing this. Not a small mistake, that's 200 million people less..
Thanks for this information. I haven't looked in Huobi much besides some reports I've read. Certainly, there is interest from China and a government can't stop Bitcoin but only make it difficult for its citizens to trade or own. Thank you for the constructive comment.

Mistakes happen, and 200 million is maybe a lot - except maybe in China. I remember data from one of their censuses when they themselves admitted that some 10-15 million people were not covered by it - because they live in such remote and inaccessible areas that it is very difficult to reach them. They say there are still areas in China where people live and have never seen a white man Roll Eyes

Despite the ban, the Chinese have found new ways to continue trading Bitcoin, and this is perhaps the greatest strength that BTC has, it can resist any regime, and this is definitely evident in the example of China.

You're welcome for comment Wink

The only certain number is that relating to affiliates ($0.01 for every member).

If you only pay for someone to register then it can be abused, because usually referral commissions are paid according to the performance of referrals in a certain percentage - I think that would be a better solution, but again few will succeed in bringing 500 users to your site - and since you make every payment manually, you should notice every possible irregularity.
9146  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Web wallet that support alt coins must include bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold. on: September 10, 2020, 09:05:05 AM
That may explain part of it, but I don't think it's possible to download 30MB even if your internet is slow.
let assume we have 2G EDGE network so dowloading 30 MB will take about 40 minutes and most of wallets have this size>

What I was actually thinking was that there are still people using very slow dial-up internet that have a maximum speed of 56 Kbps which is just 0.056 Mbps - and that would result in a download time of approximately 1 hours and 15 minutes for file size 30 MB.

Some may say, so who still uses dial-up internet access today, but research says that at least 1 million people in the USA use such internet today. It sounds strange for the 21st century, but for some it is quite enough, while others may not have a better choice.

People really still use dial-up internet? Actually, a million do
9147  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Earn free money discovering the world of Bitcoin (without investment) on: September 09, 2020, 02:14:16 PM
Referral program is very simple: you get 1 point every time someone becomes a new member of the community. 1 point has a value of $0.01.
In addition to this every week there is a $5 prize and the winner is randomly drawn among the people in top 10 of the affiliates leaderboard.

Is everything clear now?  Smiley

Of course, I just need to bring 500 people to your site to make $5 based on that, and if by any chance I'm in the top 10 I might be lucky in the lottery and win another $5 Wink

What I'm still interested in because I'm not a member, how many points can be earned daily on your site - because I'm interested in how long it takes to reach the minimum withdrawal of $5? As for that minimum, for me personally it is dust - because in order to spend the same amount you have to pay a fairly high fee or minimum fee and sometimes wait too long time for confirmation.

G) Government stance on Bitcoin
This is serious. It is not recommended to try and hide your holdings to avoid taxation from your profits.
Some countries have banned Bitcoin and consider it a crime to transact with it. China does not allow 1,2 billion people to use any kind of cryptocurrency since 2017. We should know that what is the regulation right now may not be the same in the future. It is better to avoid disclosing to anyone your cryptocurrency holdings for this and many other reasons but avoid hiding from tax authorities.

You have slightly reduced the population of China, which today is over 1.4 billion people, and also even though China has officially banned crypto trading, that doesn’t mean the trade doesn’t exist at all.

It’s no secret that Chinese citizens remain deeply involved in cryptocurrency mining, trading, and ICOs/IEOs. While official figures say that the percentage of cryptocurrency trading attributable to the yuan has dropped from 90% to 1% in the wake of the 2017 regulation, this does not account for over-the-counter trading which is where most fiat to crypto volume in China has shifted to since the regulation.

OTC options are offered by exchanges like Huobi as well as by locally managed WeChat groups. These OTC desks take the form of a marketplace where buy and sell orders are offered manually and transactions are done in a peer-to-peer manner. The platform here merely acts as a place for buyers and sellers to discover each other, rather than facilitating trades itself as exchanges do.

Also, paying income tax is only necessary when the crypto is converted to fiat, and just owning a BTC that is worth x times more today than a year ago means nothing. Paying taxes is of course desirable because it finances the entire infrastructure we need for everyday life. But in some countries the level of corruption and bad politicians is so high that it makes no sense to fund a beast that destroys everything around it.

Generally a well written post with very good tips for beginners, I hope most will read it before they fall into a trap.
9149  Other / Meta / Re: Using the forim to post trading instructions? on: September 09, 2020, 01:03:58 PM
You shouldn't be paying more than about $20-30for cheap hosting even with a vps and domain (and then about $10-20 after the first year).

Cheap hosting is much less than what you state, and for his needs VPS it is not needed at this time. Unlimited webspace & bandwidth for only $5.95 per month + com. or net. domain for less than $10 per year. Of course, he can pay for all this with BTC or with some other coin if he chooses some crypto friendly provider like this one.
9150  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Earn free money discovering the world of Bitcoin (without investment) on: September 09, 2020, 12:49:17 PM
myfriendcrypto, if this is about micro-earnings, then it would be logical to use micro-wallets that allow users to accumulate their rewards in one place and to avoid dust transactions. That way you can send 10 satoshi (no fee) without any problems - but of course you can always set a withdrawal threshold. I don't want to promote the micro wallets that are currently popular - but if you're interested, let me know on PM.

Can you explain to me how the referral program works, because all I see is that by invite a friend you can earn $5 a week?
9151  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help with electrum wanted needed : Android version on: September 09, 2020, 12:29:48 PM
protrader786, is this seed created with Electrum wallet or some other wallet? There can't be much reason why the next button is disabled when you type seed - other than that the seed is incorrect or one of the following :

Note: If the seed words are from another wallet, like the blockchain.info wallet, Bither or Mycelium, then you have to press options and check bip39. If the seed words are from Bither wallet then make sure you replace the hyphens in the seed phrase with spaces. It should display ‘BIP39 checksum OK” next to the options button when you’ve entered a valid bip39 seed mnemonic.
9152  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 1,500 restaurants in France start accepting bitcoin payments through Just Eat!!! on: September 09, 2020, 10:41:53 AM
If I use Bitcoin there is a likelihood that I wish to remain private, compelling users to divulge their bank details for a refund when an order is cancelled doesn't quite sit right with me. Understandably, they are using a payment processor, so all transactions made in bitcoins are immediately converted to fiat, they could however still hold some bitcoins in reserve precisely for this sort of situations.

In this case, privacy when paying with Bitcoin doesn't make much sense, because it's about delivering food to the user's address - but still maybe some could have problems with refund to their bank accounts, because some banks are not crypto friendly. While this is a positive move, many will certainly not like the fact that JustEat uses Bitpay, which still has some silly policy when it comes to fees - overpaying fees and warning that the user risks that the transaction will not be confirmed on time is simply stupid.

I personally would love to have the opportunity for a service like this in my country, regardless of the payment processor and some other minor illogicalities it would be nice to pay for some food with Bitcoin.

9153  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 20% off on Ledger Wallets on: September 09, 2020, 10:11:47 AM
I have a couple of questions, it is okay to purchase on the third party to the known online merchant like Lazada?

I visited that site and did not find any Ledger products, and also on the official Ledger site there are no official resellers for the Philippines. The safest option is to buy directly from Ledger (France). As for the delay of the shipment, if it goes via DHL then it will arrive within the specified period - and such a shipment is always with a tracking number and it is quite certain that it will not get lost so easily.

Shipments coming from China have a problem with delays and losses, but that's something else entirely - because they first collect a certain amount of shipments and then just send them to their destination - and that takes at least 30+ days.
9154  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UEFA Nations League 2020/2021 Discussion Thread on: September 09, 2020, 09:55:02 AM
My handicap passed a bit harder than I thought (also with Vlašić hitting the post in the 90th minute), I did not expect us to score 2 goals last night.

The overall quality of the whole match was really poor, France is a horror to watch with 3 CB's. Without Varane they couldn't play from the defence at all and we were good in some of our pressing movements. However - the same things are happening to us in all games - we simply cannot keep up the concentration levels high enough and we are making silly mistakes that always cost us the game.

It will be tough against Sweden because we really are not at a good level.

Congratulations on a brave move, although at first it seemed that your bet would not pass - but as we all concluded, the game is played for 90 minutes, and the Croatian players do not have concentration throughout the game. The French tactic was obviously to let Croatia spend as much power as possible in the first half, and then they reversed the result in just a few minutes. A defense that concedes 8 goals in 2 games is definitely for a complete reconstruction - and players like Kramaric shouldn't be in the starting lineup because that man literally didn't do anything in last night's game.

Nothing is over yet, because realistically these were the most difficult away games - and in a month the form of some players will certainly be much better - realistically Croatia has a chance to stay in Group A if they beat Sweden as hosts and play a draw with Portugal and France.
9155  Other / Meta / Re: Allow newbies with merit to post images on: September 08, 2020, 12:56:01 PM
If a newbie received at least 1 merit, then I suppose the probability that s/he is a spammer is low. Therefore, I believe that it is necessary to remove the Activity requirement, so that any user who received at least 1 merit could freely publish pictures.

Below are several examples when newbies with merit were unable to post images due to their low activity:
#msg52979733
#msg53004703
#msg53059918
#msg18130760

The first three examples are obviously someone’s alt accounts created just to participate in a contest - because all three became inactive after that - and the activity is at least easy to accomplish - while 4 example is a member who ceased to be active in 2017. All of them could very quickly and easily become Jr. Member only if they wanted to - I doubt that the impossibility of the posting pictures distracted them from that.

1 merit shouldn’t be proof that someone isn’t a spammer or that they don’t have bad intentions, and a restriction by an admin is certainly not some hasty decision.
9156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Peter Schiff son buys more bitcoin against his advise on: September 08, 2020, 12:34:31 PM
If Dad didn't want his son to spend money on something like Bitcoin, then he shouldn't have given him more money than he needs for basic living needs. It's very easy to spend money you didn't earn, and the children of the rich are the best example of that - but I guess it's better to spend on Bitcoin than on drugs and alcohol, although probably for a young Schiff money is no problem.

This is more than obviously a small play of dad and son on social networks, the little one must get involved in the business when dad become more or less irrelevant Roll Eyes
9157  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain Transaction Visualizer on: September 08, 2020, 12:20:45 PM
Definitely interesting for those for whom the whole thing is complicated so this way they can visualize the whole process. As the project is still in beta, the owner will probably make some changes for the better, so this could be something very interesting for beginners.

I also noticed that the site advertises Ledger HW (check OP image), and it must be admitted that the owner very skillfully incorporated that marketing move into the concept of his site. If the project became successful, then it would certainly be interesting to advertisers as well.
9158  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Too much HODLing stealing opportunities? on: September 08, 2020, 10:37:50 AM
Isn't it true that too long a hodl can stop you from taking great opportunities while sitting dumb and waiting for a specific target?

That’s actually a good question, and I’ve asked it to myself many times. The question is whether one should seize the opportunity when ATH happens and sell at least part of it, or one should simply ignore the possibility of profit?

I have written something on this topic before, and let's say that now I think I made a mistake at the end of 2017 that I did not sell at least 1 BTC. The reason is of course that after ATH there is always a correction, and in less than a year for 1 sold BTC you could buy 6+ BTC. If you look back at say 2015 when BTC was only worth $200 and 2017 when it was worth almost $20 000 smart players could do this :

- buy 1 BTC for $200 in 2015
- sell 1 BTC for $20 000 in 2017
- buy 6+ BTC for $20 000 in 2018
- holding 6 BTC worth $60 000 today

Not bad if you look at the initial investment and only the 5 years it took to make it happen. So I agree that just holding is not the smartest thing, but that smart selling can be very profitable.
9159  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UEFA Nations League 2020/2021 Discussion Thread on: September 08, 2020, 10:09:36 AM
I went all in on a France win with a handicap. I know Mbappe is not playing but we were so bad against Portugal and France is really strong - one of the best teams in the world.
They will probably play with Martial and Giroud in front of Griezmann, and Croatia's defence with Barišić and Jedva simply won't be able to cope. Odds are around 2.7 - too good not to take.
I actually feel we will not beat Sweden as well and a relegation from this group is on the cards. Hope they prove me wrong.

It is realistic to expect that after such a bad game, the team will be a little better in this match - but fixing things on the French is a really difficult mission. Although it won't be Mbappe who is a really great player, the array of top players that France has cannot leave anyone indifferent. However, Deschamps announced that he will rotate a lot of players for this match, and this time Dalic throws all the strongest cards into the game from the beginning, so Brozovic and Perisic should play from the beginning, and the possibility of playing Sime Vrsaljko is mentioned.

Good review of the match -> Changes in the staff of Vatreni for world champions! See who should get a chance against the French
9160  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 20% off on Ledger Wallets on: September 08, 2020, 09:38:19 AM
This is just an official discount, but I see some special discounts shared by some users on Ledger Reddit - so it’s possible to buy HW at a discount almost all year round. However, the biggest discounts can be expected in the period of Black Friday and before the New Year holidays.

I bought my Nano X last year with a 35% discount, and if my memory serves me well, at one point the Nano S was even available with a 50% discount. However, considering what has been happening with Ledger lately, I'm really interested in whether their sales will fall or people will, as usual, quickly forget everything.

They are maybe hoping to get rid of their Nano S stock and trying to save face following their recent behavior.

As far as I know, the Nano S is still being produced and supported, there is no announcement that the warehouses are being cleaned - it is still a more affordable model that probably sells more than twice as expensive Nano X.
