921  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin and get rich quick syndrome on: September 13, 2023, 11:18:09 PM
Unlike fiat which the amount in your bank account remains what it is, bitcoin in your wallet will constantly fluctuate, meaning that there is chances that you can gain or lose your bitcoin.

OP wasn't referring to losing one's Bitcoin to  hackers or anything of that nature. Rather, what they were asking was if there was any situation that would make one's Bitcoin hedl to decrease in its unit. Let's say 0.005 BTC reduces to 0.004 and continues that way until it gets to zero or that it increases beyond 0.005 BTC.
I sort of understood it differently going by the snippet you have in that quote. My understanding left me with the impression that, it’s a quantification based on what value your wallet holds through the various market seasons or price fluctuations.
Although, OP have stated it as described, which is not even close to anything possible. That your coins would decrease in units without you having to make some withdrawal or send some out, that doesn’t happen with bitcoin or any other coin in a wallet out there.

Fiat too follow similar pattern in the sense that, what truly decreases is the value. What that same money could buy in different time frames varies. While inflation might rock fiat, volatility still rocks bitcoin. You don’t lose in unit but, you can either profit or lose in value.

BTC5 will always remain BTC5 in unit no matter the time in years or market condition but it’s value will or could vary.

@Smartgoat
To make your post authentic and more valid, include a link to a news about it next time.

924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What type of advice is worth giving such people? on: September 12, 2023, 11:13:42 PM
What advice is worth passing out to people who have lost their Bitcoin more than once and are on the hedge of giving up?
It's extremely childish and insensitive to ml a mistakeqnf instead of gindingvout what your mistake was, you just source for some place to apportion blame. You learn nothing from that by not realising what your mistake or mistakes was and looking out for means to put it go a stop and ensure you don't make the same mistake anymore.
That they left Bitcoin investments for good, that isn't an assurance that they would be ultimately safe or successful in there next investment.

What I would advise such person is,
To learn how to look for faults in there steps rather than apportion blame.
They need go understand that in the cryptospace, you are your own first line of security and depending on how you take your security serious, you could be susceptible to hacks or safe.

Where do you keep your coins?
What exchanges do you use in transacting?
How have you handled KYC?

Loosing at a time shouldn't be the end, you could help yourself jn trying to know more and build yet another portfolio.
925  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Common Bitcoin ideas on: September 12, 2023, 10:53:07 PM
This brought me into thinking how do we make people understand Bitcoin properly in order to prevent them from being scammed and end up disliking the crypto space. Is introducing them into Bitcoin talk enough ? If no what else more can we do easily to make them actually get the idea of Bitcoin.
It doesn't matter what your introducing them to. If they haven't seen the need or convinced themselves that this is good for them, you would be as well introducing another dormant person unto the forum.
I think you need to understand that it's never compulsory for everyone to be vested in cryptocurrency or on the forum. You jut have to let them grow there own interest and for most, a first introduction is the best you could do for them. Though they might not jump right ahead to invest, it might even take them years but, when the bulls come in and the market starts to boom, you would easily find them running back to you for a recap.

Then, they would have learned 2 good important lessons;
Time is of the essence to profiting from an investment and
Bitcoin isn't a scam but a currency of great potential.

Let them find themselves at times.
926  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If they have the ability why would they sell? on: September 12, 2023, 10:25:25 PM
Since this groups are label premium signal groups, they are requesting some form of a monthly subscription, a friend said that most of them are inexperienced traders who are pretending to be a pro traders.

My common sense is asking me why will they create such group if they know how to be pro traders already? Like why can't they keep this to themselves and keep making their money? Why are they trying to help and getting subscribers in return? Just my own common sense like I've said. What do you have to tell me?
There isn’t anything new about signal groups and there schemes, it’s existed as long as trading itself and continues to gain patronage from a lot of those who are scared of loses or to do the work needed to prevent loses. Most of the users that falls within this category always find themselves looking out for these signal groups and they end up doing 2 different things for them,

* You aid them in building there channels which they would have found very difficult to build.
* You still get to find them by subscribing for signals that might be dobbed from some place else and offer no assurances.

I really do think one who is very good at trading wouldn’t have time trying to send signals to other persons for petty cash. It doesn’t make much sense to stress over that with all you can get from trading.
927  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: All about Emotions on: September 12, 2023, 09:23:40 PM
I think what would have been the best approach or a more helpful way to single out certain interesting statements on the course for you OP would have been, quoting the responses of interest to form into a thread in such a way that, they answer certain questions or are directed to lay emphases on a point.

The thread as you have it now don’t even have much defined on it other than you @OP, acting in the capacity of the forum’s search engine, which in turn the thread will still be submerged and be bound to further search by almost no one.

Don’t want to discredit your effort but, you would be helping the forum more by avoiding such habit as exhibited by virtue of this thread creation format.
928  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You can get played by anybody on: September 11, 2023, 01:22:49 PM
The best ways to stay safe in crypto space now is to just DCA, stake if you want and enjoy your life, nothing comes easily anymore, there is no free stuffs in the world, those who want to give up free stuffs want something else too.
Stake, stake in bitcoin… perhaps your not referring to bitcoin while talking about stake but with it as the only currency I purchase often, stake isn’t much of an option and I wouldn’t feel any sense of safety having to let some organization or exchange be in charge of my precious bitcoins.
Altcoins maybe but, I wouldn’t advise it for anyone.

The earlier people know that stupidity is a punishable offense within the cryptospace, the better for them to wake up to the reality of things in our current dispensation.

Just how do you link or connect your account or wallet of value to just anything you’re presented with out there! It depends matter whom or what company is making the offer.

You first of all think of the worst that could happen, get the measure of it if it’s a bearable situation at your end (if not, sort out for precautions) and you might end up saving yourself a lot of trouble.

There isn’t any much freebies in our world today and hope this opens the eyes of investors and prospective investors out there to these realities.
929  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Face unlock on bitcoin wallet devices on: September 10, 2023, 11:24:56 PM
Fingerprint is not secure, what about face unlock?
I consider finger print or biometric unlocking of devices a dangerous means to privacy and even worst still, face unlock. I mean, why would anyone have that on their wallet even?

In the case of finger print, there are means to get your finger print but the next thing would be your device. While some means might require someone accessing your device by targeting your subconscious moment to get your prints on your device, it poses a challenge of you having to wake up and note what’s being done.

In the case of face unlock, you better be conscious of shadow cast or lights in your face otherwise, your privacy is very much a goner and that makes it even the more risky.

Alphanumeric passwords remains the best means towards protecting your wallet privacy when compared with the other two options.
930  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help and encourage newbies to grow. on: September 10, 2023, 11:16:05 PM
What you need to know is to simply not take this community forum too seriously. Just like how you talk to other people on some social media group — as long as you follow the rules by not spamming and scamming and all that, you're good to go.
Not taking the forum too seriously is something you can’t have many individuals do. It’s hard for users who have built their life around the forum not to take it seriously. It almost feels like there life, there second life and somewhere they can express themselves as well as find solution to solve some of their life’s problems.

The forum have seen and welcomed a lot of individuals over the years, have managed to shape a lot of them too as well as outcasts those that were found wanting of its rules. Even at that, you’re sure to have some more people pouring in everyday and always about looking out for means to blend in the forum.
Learning becomes the first thing you owe yourself, do that and you would find a means towards bettering your experience here @OP.
931  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: School fees hike on: September 10, 2023, 09:30:25 PM

My fellow Nigerians una good day SIRs and MAs, I come with one matter way they worry all the students for 9ja, this matter don rise but e com worst as this man way them they call am JAGABAN become the president.
The thing be say school fees done increase to the level way be say some students way their parents no get money, them done quit school because no money to afford the school fees.
If person been tell us say, the next government go make us miss Buhari, most of us no for believe but, e don be the order of governance for this we nation. This na the one thing way we don Dey sure say, government Dey hand over and continue through their time in office.
Nigeria government just turn out yo be the type way be say, them no Dey continue on the past government better project because, them feel say the success of the project no go link back to them as the source but instead, them Dey like kick start there own new project and somehow, the suffer project Dey always Dey continued.

Where e bad here be say, our people no go still learn say, person way invest most chop dividend for en investment. After all the money way Tinubu use run election, you must ready for harsh policies because, en money no fit just waste like that.

Government way suppose Dey encourage education, them Dey acknowledge the poor state of things for the country and still, they make necessity like school fees unaffordable. Yet, e Dey propose loan accessible to pay grade far above minimum wage for country way more than half Dey live below that level. The country na for the strong shah, make we Dey try.
932  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Vitalik Buterin X account hack & lessons learnt on: September 10, 2023, 07:12:49 PM
Yes... But no be only newbies, na for everyone bro. E get one victim wey lost 2 Cyberpunk NFTs; Punk 3983 (worth 157 ETH) and Punk #1751 (worth 58 ETH), and e look like dis person fit be veteran crypto user wey loose gaurd.
Even this one way get 2 cyber punk NFT still Dey fine free NFT. Worst still, e Dey connect am with watin Dey am important. Why people Dey make this kind mistake. I no go call am mistake shah but, na greed to accumulate more free things.

This na the beginning of plenty things of this nature to come. In times of theee change over and staff shuffling like this, plenty go dey happen and so, person need dey extra careful with watin e dey do. Nothing pure again because, even formal staff fit turn foe and them know howfar.

Verified accounts and accounts of prominent people no make an any better. When creating and mimicking no Dey work, hacking Dey play role. Hope the awareness Dey spread shah.
Somehow, I no been really know Vitalik connection with Twitter o. You try pass this info, @Sokani.
933  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Can a unified language solve Nigeria's problem of tribalism? on: September 10, 2023, 06:56:02 PM
Nope, it won't and can't. Tribalism is deep rooted like racism.
It’s a sad thing about life. How we aren’t really better than the rest depending on circumstances. Circumstances shows you just want you can allow, take in, condole or how well you never knew yourself.

For those of us that happens to travel either locally within states, you find out that, it’s more easier to meet someone with you that speaks a common tongue and you can call them brother, be fair and nice to them. Same people you wouldn’t care much about if you met them within your ethnicity.
Same goes when you travel internationally, you see your country man and be good to them but, the case is different while in the country.

The earlier we realize that the true thing that matters is that we are humans and bleed the same, the closer we would be to healing. Humanity comes first!
934  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: presuring someone into Bitcoin investment on: September 10, 2023, 06:41:06 PM

When people overhyped and then suggest investment, it is possible that there is a hidden motive in there.  Probably the person explaining wanted his investor to invest in Bitcoin under their referral to earn something from that investment.  We all know exchanges have also an affiliate program where the sponsor or the person who refers users will have a certain percentage of that person's trades.
Hidden motives!
I wonder if there are those out there that are doing their outmost to get people into picking bitcoin investments for trading purposes. That would be such a wrong move on there side and one that is mainly birth out of greed.
Just how do anyone do that?
Convincing a newbie to bitcoin or cryptocurrency to come take up cryptocurrency trading just so the invitee could get referrer bonuses and trade bonuses, that’s not being a good friend to such individual.

It takes a lot of energy in trying to convince someone. I think the best approach would always remain in you having to leave them to convince themselves. You can’t really convince someone who doesn’t think that which s/he is being introduced would benefit them. They have to convince themselves before you could win them over.

Still, it would be a good idea to jot over exaggerate things when trying to win them over.
935  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank vs Crypto: Are they opposites? on: September 10, 2023, 06:31:33 PM
In short, the answer is no. Banks and crypto are not opposites, but they have different purposes and ways of working. Banks are traditional financial institutions that provide services such as savings, loans, and money transfers. Crypto is a digital currency that uses blockchain technology.
If you say they have different purposes, I wouldn’t be in very much agreement with you but, when you look at it from the way it’s operates, there you can find some real difference.

I suppose your contest to banks as in the OP is you referring to fiat currency otherwise, if your referring banks as a financial institution, then you would be making a lot of mistakes trying to put cryptos and banks in contrast.

Having the above in view, fiat and cryptos are both currencies and means to finance. Hence, it’s hard for them having different purposes.

When it comes to means of operation, there remains a difference between a decentralized system and centralized systems. While one is more privacy concern and can serve variety of purposes, the other is limited by boundaries.

Fiats and cryptos aren’t meant to be exclusive, I always tend to view them for a fill up on the limitations of the other.
936  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do we benefit in lies in forum on: September 10, 2023, 06:19:37 PM
The forum allows you the freedom to share your ideas as long as you respect others and do not conflict with bitcointalk rules. So unless the story is completely fictional, you are allowed to share it.
The problem lies in lying and trying to fabricate stories to attract, arouse sympathy, or obtain donations or merits, and sometimes this may be to complete paid posts.
What makes the forum rich is the uniqueness of every individual, shown in their contributions. To that extent, one is expected and has the free will to write what would be as well educative and can result in some good learning.
Unfortunately, it becomes a lot challenging for some that leads to fabrications of what could be untrue and deceiving at the same time, aimed at certain purposes.
This is out rightly bad as, you pose a completely fictional situation to be true with the aim of archiving a goal. Some even do it for the fact that, they haven’t created a thread in a long time. How do you tell, you really can’t other than have the hunch and inferences from what you’ve seen over the years.
The bad news is, most still get caught free and it’s still happening till today but with no means to prove a story, you just have to go with it, criticize what you can and don’t let there deals play on you.
937  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin obsession! on: September 09, 2023, 09:41:52 PM
Pretty hard to talk about this knowing that there are various degrees of both obsession and addiction. It's not binary — it's a spectrum; just like how two money-obsessed persons have different degrees of obsession.
It’s a spectacular view on the subject, talking about the degrees to which one might out weight the other but then, I would as well like to view that one leads to the other and that’ll be, obsession leading to addiction. This makes addiction the final product of an uncontrolled or tamed obsession. That’s to say, obsession could be controlled or stopped before it grows into something more difficult to handle. It’s just a likable situation and that’s okay.

Looking at crypto enthusiasts towards bitcoin, I’m not sure obsession really comes in as, there is hardly anyone that would have there all invested in bitcoin. The percentage of any wouldn’t be far from 10 and below of crypto investors. It’s good that as you see all the goods you can archive with bitcoin, you don to terms with the fact that, it still ain’t the ultimate and there are other fields of human endeavors that have got potentials too.
938  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin forum app store on: September 09, 2023, 08:45:14 PM
Hello! I want to develop a mobile application Bitcoin forum app store. What do you think?
I suppose this follows an earlier complaint about what could be done with the forum to enhance its view on mobile devices.

Well, I don’t see a need to having an app for the forum. It’s just fine with me as it is and even if Satoshi Nakamoto could rise out of anonymity to put up an app on AppStore or Playstore for the forum before disappearing back to the odyssey, I still wouldn’t want an app to visit the forum.

It’s being a long term attachment having to type down the site and my fingers already knows where to get them keys subconsciously. Not to mention the risk involved and having to update every now and then when the developer feels more can be done.

It would be hard having to trust such app as an old user so, good luck to you in just developing another browser for a forum app.

I don’t know but,
I’ll like to know what’s the idea or motive that backs your creating of this subject on meta?

If your this good, you would as well have known that meta is meant for important discussions that relates the forum, some report cases, appeal, forum related upgrades, time outs and things of that sort not this!
Don’t be too focused on teaching without learning. Learn to appropriate threads to where they belong as well.

The beginners and help board would suit your thread just fine. You wouldn’t be expecting a newbie or beginners to come twerking here. Kindly move your thread to the beginners and help board. It would be more appreciated there and possibly serve its purpose more.

Nice time you’ve put in creating your thread, don’t waste it on meta.
940  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading not for everyone! on: September 09, 2023, 08:27:18 PM
If you are unsure of your capabilities to trade it will be beneficial to you to just buy and hold, and be taking each opportunity of every dip on the market to Dollar -Cost-Average.
DCA doesn’t really mean you taking advantage of the dip. Yeah, you could DCA when the market dips but, it ain’t limited to the dip. In fact, one can even DCA at an ATH.
DCA bridges the gap between having a specific timing to increasing of your portfolio. It keeps you off the charts to find the best price but, makes you an opportunistic investor who is dependent on what funds is available to invest in between at any time your finance allows.

It is good to buy and hodl but, not overly waiting on the dip to do that. You could always buy wherever and whenever.

Quote
You're peacefully on track, and not losing out on anything. Trading has sent a bunch of persons back to their past. Cheesy
Trading is still sending a lot more home today but most persons choose not to see that. Some just needs to find out the hard way why others are just being wrongly motivated by not knowing when to quit. Just hope there life don’t get ruined and they get to put the blame on cryptos before realizing when or where they took the wrong decision.
