921  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitfinex questions on: October 19, 2013, 09:47:25 PM
  • Do you use bitfinex? What do you think?
  • Why isn't their price data on sites like bitcoincharts? Is their price / volume data available? Why not?
  • Are their historical interest rates for BTC and USD available? Would be very interesting to analyze.

Bitfinex is a scam.
922  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bitfinex is a scam. on: October 19, 2013, 09:06:42 PM
@mpoe-pr: what was that site url again you run/promote?

Erm, I suppose you should have a look at my sig.
923  Economy / Securities / Re: Solving the problem of bitcoin securities and regulation on: October 19, 2013, 08:54:46 PM
There's a clear problem with the Bitcoin securities market, and that's one of centralisation attracting regulatory problems. BTCT closed down for this reason and BitFunder shut its doors to US citizens for the same reason. In response, the value of these securities has largely artificially been forced down, despite the real practical value the shares may have, due to forced sell-offs by Americans who have lost their means for practical trading of these securities. I'm invested in two of these myself; ActiveMining and LabRat Mining, and both are looking at their own private methods of managing their share/bond allocations, but these are still going to be problematic, because there's still not an easy way for them to be either be discovered by newcomers, or traded back and forth by the existing market.

Guys, Ripple is *perfect* for Bitcoin securities! You can issue your own arbitrary units of value that are tradeable using the Ripple protocol. It's decentralised, so regulatory issues can't get in the way of trading and transacting, and it gives each issuer the power to allocate some arbitrary number of shares and trade them out in exchange for the Bitcoins they need to fund their project. And because they're all managed by the Ripple protocol, you don't have to worry about managing some sort of separate altcoin representing each security.

Finally, for those concerned about XRP being a scam because it's centrally-issued, it's not relevant, because trading XRP is not what's happening here. All XRP would get used for in this case is transaction verification, so that argument is really somewhat irrelevant to this use case.

Would like to hear other people's thoughts on this, as I for one am somewhat upset about the massive unnecessary loss of value that my shares have suffered, all in the face of regulatory fears, when those fears can be completely bypassed by decentralisation, and Ripple provides a perfect vehicle for that to happen.

Ripple is defective. It's nice that you'd like to contribute to a healthier marketplace, but the answer is not building yet more nonsense on broken ideas and with bad tools. "Regulatory fears" are not the enemy here. They're but a symptom of the specific ineptitude of those who have followed similar "let's build with broken bits" paths.
924  Economy / Securities / Re: CoinTerra IPO [PicoStocks] *Scam* on: October 19, 2013, 06:19:34 PM
There is a reason GLBSE closed, BTCT closed, Bitfunder recently blocked US investors for a start

Yes, yes there is. The reason is that unqualified people who (mostly) mean well imagine they're going to "help" by doing what they're incapable of doing, and then when it inevitably falls through people act as though it's The Evil Mysterious Third Party that's responsible.

Want to know where it'll happen next? Look to those "exchanges" operated by the poorly qualified, with poor security and poor planning.

Want to know where it won't? Look to the exchange that's actually competent, and which has long had answers to these issues.
925  Economy / Securities / Re: [CryptoBonds.net] Beta stage completed on: October 19, 2013, 05:53:55 PM
Why should we trust you?

Vague non-information with zero substantiated facts.

This doesn't work. As long as you're not ten, collecting donations for whatever school uniforms fund, you'll need to actually create a plan, and publish it in full, along with all of the (documented) pertinent details. This is a good place to start.
926  Economy / Securities / Re: Of Bubbles & Bears - Kazu's Binary Options 2.0 on: October 19, 2013, 05:42:53 PM
Its not particularly vague, here is an actual link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=181117.0

Aha, thanks.

I didn't post as a service in the securities forum, I posted in the speculation forum (as was my previous thread) and it got moved here. Because this thread is for me  and others to speculate on the Bitcoin price. Why did it get moved? I don't really know. Clearly its relevant to the interests of people on that other forum considering it was fairly popular last time around, when it didn't get moved.

Ha! Well whaddya know. My mistake, then.

Would the mod in question like to explain what's up with putting a speculation betting thread in Securities?

How about getting in the WoT?
928  Economy / Securities / Re: Bitfunder - no reason for a fire sale on: October 19, 2013, 04:13:29 PM
Your probably correct, but your fee is way to steep and honestly I have no idea how to use your site.

I guess I could use coinbr

You should probably check out the FAQ (nos. 3 - 6 in particular). GPG is your friend, and ultimately it's kinda silly to be interested in cryptocurrency without learning how to use relevant cryptography tools. You can use a broker if you prefer, though, sure.
929  Economy / Securities / Re: Of Bubbles & Bears - Kazu's Binary Options 2.0 on: October 19, 2013, 04:05:27 PM
Well, I've run the service before, and all the previous users were perfectly happy and I scammed  no-one.

Vague allusions to having previously run the "service" on an account that you "lost access to" amount to nothing if the question is whether you are to be trusted with sums of other peoples' money. Same goes for the question of whether you're at all qualified to be running an options service.

So, I'm not exactly sure what type of "credentials" you're looking for.

where's your WoT link

I have money and there for I'm perfectly capable of allowing people to bet against it should I wish.

Yeah, you're able to allow people to bet. So is anyone off the street. The questions are who are you, specifically, what is your reputation, specifically, and what qualifies you to run an options service, specifically. If you're just some anon dude who'd like to play around that's fine of course, but you're posting a service in the securities forum, so.
930  Bitcoin / Project Development / S.NSA launches RSA key factorisation service on: October 19, 2013, 02:54:53 PM

Recently there have been various reports in the press about weak RSA keysiv One such report famously claims four keys in one thousand are useless. Obviously this would be a point of concern to ordinary users, but at the same time it wouldn’t necessarily be something they can easily verify.

No Such lAbs (MPEx : S.NSA) makes it its business to mind security, and as such has recently released Phuctor: The RSA Super Collider. Supercomputers running a highly advanced piece of algorithmics called EGCDv are at your disposal, ready to help. All you have to do is paste your public key in and check back a little later. NSA will compare your public key to all the other keys already submitted and see if there’s any factors shared by at least two keys.
---
iv. Keys which can be factorised fail to deliver on the original promise (that the problem is hard in one direction) and as such are pretty much useless. Or perhaps worse than useless, if anyone relies on them seriously.

v. Known ever since the ancient Greeks, inasmuch as it’s Euclid’s Greatest Common Divisor procedure.

931  Economy / Securities / Re: [CryptoStocks] Satoshi Poker IPO on: October 17, 2013, 07:13:21 PM
Excellent criticism in here. OP, listen to these people. And see here.
Yes, I still remember that you helped me to set up a GPG code in the past, Mircea. Thing was that I didn't have the time to find out how all these systems worked and with the first investor requesting specificly to be listed on bitfunder, I chose not to go through the hassle and get listed there instead of on mpex. I will always listen to founded criticism and there are indeed some valid questions in this post, which is why I take time to answer them. Thanks for your starters guide. You know who some of the investors behind Satoshi Poker are, so if you don't mind I'll pass on reading it completely.

Good luck with mpex!

I'm not Mr. P. My name's Hannah.

Anyway, taking the cheap and easy way out is likely to land you in mud, which is alright I guess if you're only responsible for yourself, but it gets a lot less harmless once you start soliciting third parties for funds.
932  Economy / Securities / Re: Of Bubbles & Bears - Kazu's Binary Options 2.0 on: October 17, 2013, 07:08:13 PM
That's nice, but what I meant was more like where's your WoT link, where are your credentials for running an options service, and why should anyone imagine you'll make good on your promises?

934  Economy / Securities / Re: Of Bubbles & Bears - Kazu's Binary Options 2.0 on: October 17, 2013, 02:27:04 PM
Introducing the NEW Binary Options thread, version 2.0 Smiley

If you remember, a while ago (last bubble) I (my old username, kazu) offered bearish Binary Options. Well, with a new bubble comes more binary options! Only this time, I have something for the bulls as well!

For those that don't know, Binary Options are basically a fancy term for betting. If the option is 'in the money', your Binary options reward you with 2x your original bet! But, if your money isn't 'in the money' you lose all your invested money. I offer two differing styles of binary options.

Direction Binary Options:
The classic binary option. If, after a set period (week or month, contact me if you want to negotiate a shorter/longer term option), the Bitcoin price is BELOW what it is right now (by any amount, even just 0.01), your option is 'in the money' and you double your money! The starting price is called the 'strike price.' I'm only opening this offer up to bears, right now.

One-Touch Options:
One-touch options become "in the money" and immediately pay out your 2x profit whenever the current price of BTC hits a certain price (called the strike price) before the term expires, even if the price then returns or even dips below the price at which you bought the option! I used to only allow bearish bets (because I'm a bull) but this time, I think the rally will be a bit slower, so I'm allowing both bulls and bears to play this style of option.

Here are some standardized option terms I created that I will accept. Obviously if you want to 'personalize' your option just reply to this thread and I'll determine if your particular option is acceptable, or if the terms need to be modified. All offers use the Gox price as its still the biggest, if you want to use the Bitstamp price, I'll do that, but you must EXPLICITLY STATE THAT in your bet!

Example Options I'll Agree To
1 Month "DOWN" Directional Binary Option (Strike of CURRENT GOX PRICE)
1 Week "DOWN" Directional Binary Option (Strike of CURRENT GOX PRICE)
60 day "One-Touch" Binary Option (Strike Price of 20% ABOVE CURRENT GOX PRICE)
60 day "One-Touch" Binary Option (Strike Price of 20% BELOW CURRENT GOX PRICE)

You pick the amount of the bet. For bets over 2 BTC or bets other than one of the bets I've explicitly stated Ill agree to, please wait for me to confirm my acceptance.

Payment
I'll accept bets over PM or in this thread, either one. I have no problem with my positions being made public, keeping everything in the public record. If you wish to make a more private bet, just send me a PM, and after approving it I'll post a sha256 hash of the terms of the bet on this thread (after giving you the contents of the hash). That way you can still prove to everyone that you did make the bet and force me to pay (you won't need to do this though  Wink)

My payment address for this is 1Mm5rFrj4k3EpGk4W2U3BcYH2KykGTXLS8. In most cases I want payment of your bet upon beginning the bet. As you can see from my last thread, I never default and always pay all my obligations. If you feel really strongly that you want to hold your payment until the end, then contact me, we may be able to work something out.

Thanks and good luck,
Kazu

(Tl,dr: Bet that the Bitcoin price is going to go down after a week/month by sending your bet to 1Mm5rFrj4k3EpGk4W2U3BcYH2KykGTXLS8, if it does, I'll send you back double your money!)

937  Economy / Securities / Re: so... anyone want to make a regulated US stock exchange? on: October 16, 2013, 07:53:21 PM
Even if a virtual auditing service or a distributed auditing corporation has to form there has to be something to certify the issuer as trusted enough that people can buy and sell shares and know it's not a complete scam.

See here. See my entire post history. See scores of people refusing to read, and refusing to think for themselves, based on various broken notions chief among which is that people should be given money because they are nice, irregardless of whether they're competent or whether they actually have something to offer.

Still, the tools are here, and the tools are being used.

Then after all of that you're going to have to deal with accusations of stolen coins, disputes, and accusations of money laundering. How do we deal with these problems? Ignoring the technical problem doesn't work if we want a legitimate investment platform just like following the law doesn't work if we want a legitimate technological platform.

This is an open problem which the ROTA attempted to solve. As it is, the problem remains, open.
938  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I'm Feeling Sorry for Mt. Gox on: October 16, 2013, 05:41:06 PM
It feels like they're the Internet Explorer of Bitcoin or something. I get that nobody thinks they're "smooth enough" compared to other exchanges, but whether you like it or not, without Gox, we wouldn't be where we are today. I know as of now its "cool" to hate on Gox, but I think that there is a large chance that they'll eventually do something to make a big boom in the industry again. Don't write the mountain of the map just yet.

Just my 2uBTC.

Listen, empathy for suffering things is fine. Encouragement of bullshit is not.

Please do your part killing this offensive piece of shit scamsite. Never trade on MtGox. Not now, not ever. Every dollar you pay in taxes goes to feed some bureaucrat swine, pay for hospitals, education and bombers. Every dollar you pay in MtGox fees goes to feed swine exclusively.

Find a different exchange, trade there, never MtGox again.
939  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: START TRADING WITH COINPRIZE on: October 16, 2013, 05:08:41 PM
It's secure, trusted and provably fair platform that is designed for all investors' goods.

Back all of this up, address the notes in your trust rating, and see here.

Learning what investing means would be a good idea too. You're misusing it.
940  Economy / Securities / Re: Bitfunder - no reason for a fire sale on: October 16, 2013, 04:44:57 PM
At this point you either have to be a gambler or a fool to hold securities. The smart money has already left.

At any and every point you had to be a gambler or a fool to hold "securities" on play exchanges. The smart money has been on MPEx. It has never been wading through the flotsam. This is an opportunity to recognize what doesn't work, and why --make sure you understand this lesson in its entirety or you'll likely end up in the same spot again.
