is it legal though other like fedex, ups

If it illegal through USPS, it's illegal altogether. That's the whole point of "illegal."
9202  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Asicminer Risk on: June 08, 2013, 12:11:24 AM
Hi All,

I was curious what people thought about the risk of buying shares in the Asicminer Passthrough.

In my mind the primary risk is destruction of their infrastructure, but otherwise it seems pretty reliable.  Thoughts?

asdf

I've been looking into this myself. My big issue is that the break-even point, as of now, is past the 2 year mark. That's a long time to hope nothing bad happens...

Though it's possible that with the recent speed increases they've gotten (at least it looks like it?) that period may be shrinking.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions, please send them over! I'd especially like to know if there is something not working properly.

Thanks!

You would still have to find BTC block wouldn't you?

I'm not sure enough to answer on merge mining. I thought the merged coins were finding blocks quicker than the parent BTC, but maybe I misunderstand how it works.

They work in conjunction with one another, at least is my understanding. Ex.

BTC is difficulty 1,000
NMC is difficulty 500

In the time it took to find a BTC block you'd find 2 NMC's, or for ex. if it took an hour to find a BTC one, every 30m you would find a NMC one.

Not 100% sure if I got that right, but based on my understanding this is how it works.

How the heck do we setup multiport for scrypt and sha-256 at the same time. (Terracoins are sha-256 and run like crap with sha-256 settings... not to mention, cgminer is setup for scrypt for the login...)

Just curious, because that would result in possibly valid scrypt-hash-shares being returned if you check them for scrypt-validity, but would never result in a valid sha-256 block ever being found.

Or am I missing something, like a special tool that connects and auto-switches video-card profiles/settings and miner-types from scrypt to sha-256?

Personally, I would drop terracoins, because they are sha-256, and will soon be invaded by someone with an ambitious THs army, to pump-n-dump BTC that is failing them in the future. Thus, degrading any holdings and earnings for us GPU and CPU scrypt-miners.

You have a theme, stick with it. "Scrypt-Mining" Get every scrypt-mined coin that exists, to be included in your pool. (Once you get that new server setup.)

FYI: You can buffer and compound multiple DB updates to the same table, if you use temp-tables to "hoard" the micro-updates. (Talking about shares that are slightly smaller and more realistic to less-loss.)

Another trick is to use PHP's built-in MySQLite as the unhindered multi-table. Every Nth or EndRound, you make one update to the real database, which could be a remote DB sent just the table-update info. Since it is just WRITE/APPEND and not REPLACE/UPDATE, for share counting.

I was wondering about the TRC as well, when I looked through what the different coins were. I was also going to recommend removing it, although I think that maybe it's on the pools in general but not on the auto rotator?
9206  Economy / Services / Re: [0.011BTC]Minecraft key retrieval needed. on: June 07, 2013, 08:54:39 PM
Now I've seen lots of these offers of free Minecraft around the Internet. Most of them are scams. But some actually bring money to the owner - enough for him to actually buy it. Such gift codes are hidden in a text file under locked downloads, which some of them are legit and some of them are not. As I am from a small country, I can't complete such downloads to see if they're legit or not as I don't have access to any offers or surveys required to complete. But some countries are. That's why I'm placing a bounty: if you can find a gift code (from locked downloads, your friend gave you, you have a spare), I'll give you 0.011 BTC. At such price buying the game would be impossible, but finding it for free is another question. PM me with a code. If it's working I'll  request your address, if not I'll say to keep looking. REMEMBER: only gift codes. NO ACCOUNTS, NO CRACKS, NO DOWNLOADS, nothing other than a gift code. Thanks in advance.

Those sites are usually scams. A couple that "worked" had limits on only one code given out per day, or per 6 hours, so unless you completed the offer right before the flip, you wouldn't get anything.

I tried, Sad. I'd love a MC code as well. Sadly buying it appears to be the only option.

121

121? Square root is 11, a prime number, Smiley.

The square root of any prime number is an irrational number. Every positive number has a real square root. However, prime numbers do not have rational square roots.

You misinterpreted something I think. He said the number HAS a prime square root.

Ex. 121. The square root is 11. 11 is prime.

no, your 121 is not a winner, somebody already guessed 121 before Wink

I know it didn't win. I was using it as an example of what was being looked for.

4 would also work for that (2 is the square root, which is also prime).

Well the multiport just stopped working again..  Luckily I was around to restart it.

I think it may just be a race condition in the script.  I added a 2 second sleep between killing off the old redirect and starting up the new one, hopefully that will take care of the issue.

Thanks, Smiley.

I was also wondering, is it possible to lower the difficulty to 8 or even 4 for the coins with very fast blocks? I am getting 15-20% stales at the current setting of 16 since the blocks move so fast.

The profitability calculation already takes stales into account (25% for WDC, 20% for DGC).

I'd have to look into the performance implications of lowering it below 16.  It would result in double or quadrupling the number of shares inserted into the DB.

Ah, got ya. So it's not just me with tons of stales then... that makes me feel a lot better!

If it's too much of an issue don't worry about changing it to a lower value. I just figured an increase of 10% or so is pretty big when you consider it over time. For ex:

If you get 10 coins normally, now you get 11
After a month you've gotten 30-31 extra coins, or 3+ days worth as a bonus
9210  Economy / Service Announcements / [ANN] CoinFaucets - BTC Faucet Timer and Rotator! on: June 07, 2013, 07:39:59 PM
Hey all! I want to announce the public launch of my BTC faucet timer and rotator. I've been using this for a while privately now to ensure that it's stable and working as it should. I've run in to 0 issues so far (tested on IE, FireFox and Chrome).

The site's address is: http://coinfaucets.tk/

What the site does is have you input your BTC address in the top right. After this, hit Next to go to the first faucet. When you're done with it, hit it again to continue. It will keep cycling through the faucets until all are on cooldown, after which it will show a listing of all faucets and how long they have left. As soon as one is off cooldown and you hit Next, you will be taken to it!

This means no more having to keep up with timers yourself, or even remember faucets.

Also, the BTC address in the top right is NOT necessary, however it will save the address for you so that on future visits you can just copy/paste the same address without having to put it in an external document or anything.

I'm available pretty much all the time as well, so please let me know if there are questions, concerns or suggestions.

Thanks guys!

Nope, you would have to read the posts that  unthinkingbit linked, but....the contest was run only by me, just for the month and had nothing to do with the round.

Ah, so I was right on that. Thanks! Smiley
9213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tablet Prize Winner on: June 07, 2013, 07:21:55 PM
The most prolific author over the last month was Lawyer:
http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=wiki:user:lawyer

who wrote 76,832 words:
https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/devtome_10001.csv

so he gets the tablet:
https://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,2702.msg19779.html#msg19779

the lotto ranges for the remaining writers are at:
https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/lotto.csv

the next megamillions draw:
http://www.megamillions.com/numbers/

will be on Tuesday night, so the lottery winner will be declared on Wednesday.

CONGRATS!  Please pm me your delivery address when you get a chance.

Ummm not sure what you mean this was all on the 4th it looks like.

Was it supposed to be based on the round then? If so, it still has time left...
9214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devcoin on: June 07, 2013, 07:02:31 PM
I gotta correct myself.  I said a few days ago there were a few people with 70+K words so I asked why a winner was announced a few days early.  I looked at the distribution again and the people who show 70K or more that's actually their total.  One has to look at the last column (Payout) to see the total from this round or round 24.  And in that case there's nobody even close to the 77K "Lawyer" did in which case I see why the results were announced.

Man, it was much harder than I thought to do a significant amount of writing without burning out.  Wish I could program, that would be a lot more fun.

Congrats to Lawyer, 77K is a crazy amount to write.  I nearly broke myself and I got significantly less than that. lol.

I have over 80k registered for this round...

Are you talking about round 24?  I didn't see anybody with 80K. If you do then give a heads up cause you're probably in first place.  I think first round ends at 93,300.  That's what I've seen on here from reputable posters.

Make sure you're reading the latest list:

http://d.evco.in/charity/devtome_earnings_24.csv

Also, the post just before mine has the right numbers.

Thanks for the updated list.  I remember like 3 or 4 days ago Jaisn asking for "Lawyer's" address to ship him the first place prize which was a tablet.  I'm not sure why this was done almost a week prematurely.  Perhaps cause there was nobody close to "Lawyer" with such little time left.

I hope you didn't lose your prize.  Congrats on 80K, that's really a hard thing to do, unless you have pre-existing articles already.  It's good for devcoin to see so much more content flowing out.  I wonder how much a share will be worth in round 24?  My got feeling is around 145,000 coins as opposed to 359,000 for round 23 and around 1.41 million for round 22.  I'm also curious to see how many people continue contributing with both, the value of devcoin and the actual coins per share, having plummeted this past round.

Cause at this point it's like working for about $2 per hour, unless of course, you have articles which you have already written for other sites.  And I think going forward as we get more and more third wolrd country contributors from places like Asia, India and Eastern Europe, it should only get more and more competitive.  That's great for devcoin but not so good if you're trying to earn and you have to give up a more profitable opportunity cost when compared to the current payout of devcoin. I'm banking on the idea that devcoin will reach much higher levels eventually.

Good luck!

To answer your question about why the Lawyer was contacted, the tablet contest ended on the 31st. Really I still would have won but I was told only a few days earlier by two of the more prominent members not to go over 60k because it would be lost, so I purposely stopped there, Sad. It was just recently that it was boosted to 80k max.

But such is life!

acs26 is a scammer. I already provided him a one month loan of one billion btc, and he hasn't paid back a single satoshi. Scammer, I say. SCAMMER!

Sir, please read up a bit. I already let people know to be wary of him. He only sent me back 19,999,999 of the 20 mil he owed me, until I called him out on it. He tried to write it off as "transaction fees."

YOU WERE WARNED

Edit: he offered me a cam-show to say our deal was fully resolved so... our deal is fully resolved!
So how was the cam-show?  Grin

Let's just say if I ever have the choice to eat tacos or corndogs, corndogs it is!
9218  Economy / Gambling / Re: Satoshi Buckets - A new kind of Bitcoin game! HOUSE CUT ONLY 0.5% until June 9. on: June 07, 2013, 12:43:58 PM
All buckets are over threshold but not falling?!?!?!

They only fall when a block is hit (at least is my understanding). So the timer at the bottom is how long it waits before checking for a new block. If one has hit, it uses the hash to figure out which bucket to tip. If it hasn't, the timer will go again.
